Trump assesses Kim Jong Un as 'very honorable'

The exact words used. The headline is promoting fake news.

Talking about the food again ?

"I'd be very surprised if Kim Jong Un just summarily walks into the meeting and says I'm giving up all our nuclear weapons and I'm going to let you verify it. I'd really be taken aback. ... From my own experience in dealing with the North Koreans, the nuclear capability, whatever it is, they consider their ticket to survival. And I believe the reason they all of a sudden have advanced this willingness to tone down the rhetoric and meet is because they feel for the first time they are not going to be approaching this negotiation as a supplicant, which has always been the case in the past. And they have achieved whatever capability they think they have and they have enough confidence in it that they believe that gives them deterrence, which is more about psychology than actual capability."
James Clapper, Former Director of National Intelligence on CNN

CrazyJoe
Murders his own uncle, brother, family.
Hundreds of thousands dead. Millions on the brink of starvation and malnourished.
Brutal oppression. No freedom. No food. No rights. No future.
“very honorable”
Then again, for someone like Trump - Kim is a role model.

CrazyJoe: they don’t have the right stuff to deserve to be liberated.

I think he probably started out doing it on purpose, just to keep people from ever being pinned down to anything, and now he just does it out of habit, because it works to a degree.
Not exactly what I'd say is a quality you'd want in a president, but to each their own I guess.

Let's hope this works out and it isn't just a battle to see who can out crazy the other leader.
They are both crazy. Kim tends to be calculated and rational, and he plays at being irrational. Trump is irrational and plays like he is being calculated and rational.
I would hope his comments came from intelligence estimates on Kim's psychology, but it is probably just another off the cuff statement or the last thing Trump heard someone say. After all, Trump doesn't read, and Fox news (Trump's backseat thinker) probably never said anything like that.

I've watched North Korea's talks and agreements over the last 25 years and came to the conclusion that they could not be trusted. But now, I think that North Korea are going to be negotiating with a US run by a President who, more than any other Presidents, can not be trusted. Ironic.

Nobel peace prize material!

Obama received his prize for doing absolutely nothing. Strange world we live in.
TorafusuTorasan
You know, there is a process to nominate an individual or organization for the Nobel Peace Prize. I'll bet "doing absolutely nothing" is nowhere to be found in the nominating paperwork. The Norwegians wouldn't give out that much cash to lazy ne'er do wells, thus you would not get any takers on a bet saying they will award Trump the prize (and in the event of a peace deal on the Korean peninsula, SK's Moon will get major recognition.)
HonestDictator
No, it's caused by Kim's (and cronies) ineptitude at putting the money he's been blowing on his regime, luxury purchases for himself, and nuclear weapons "development" that is making his people malnourished. The millions of dollars put towards those things could easily be put towards agricultural development and support to feed his own people. Maybe your propaganda land doesn't tell you that though.

Only Trump can call a murderous psychopath 'honorable'
Tommy Jones
Tex: Agreed 100%.

Yes, so then by all accounts the left should be ecstatic with the progress he’s made and how he’s handling Kim.
I think we all know by now, so how is the left handling this, what is their solution.....oh, wait, they don’t have one.
So which is it, he talks tough, he’s a warmonger, he doesn’t say anything, he doesn’t care about the rest of the world and is selfish, he makes a flub, a mistake (which last I remembered, humans do as we are not perfect, except for liberals) now if they can only regain the 1000 legislative seats they’ve lost, they so smart and noble party.
Tommy Jones
The left isn't in power so it's not on the left to do something or have a plan.
Dems keep flipping seats - Arizona excluded - in red states. With any luck, we won't have to hear the broken record talk about Dems losing 1000 seats after November.
Tommy Jones
Which is it? Is Kim honorable or a monster? If only Trump and his followers had the intellectual capacity to be consistent.
Matt Hartwell
LOL @ Trump. I guess "very honourable" is better than short and fat at this stage of diplomatic negotiations.
But really, why comment on his character at all?

Pyongyang made the “big shift” not Trump. Just severed months ago, they were threatening Guam and said they’d test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific.
u can’t make this stuff up.
bass4funk
They are related, are they not?
Ok, got it. So what is your point?
That won’t happen in any possible near future, let Kim do everything on that list you provided, complete it, fulfill every single agreement and then we shall take the next step.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Liberals like to rush things, that’s how you get burned, No thank you.
Well, I can vote and he’s got mine. I love the Trump, Mattis, Bolton all rolled up into one small package delivered to Kim.
bass4funk
I know that, you know that, but does the left know that? They bloviate non-stop and act as if they were somehow relevant.
That’s ok, I’m just thankful that no matter what happens we keep the Senate! Other than that, I can live with the Dems taking the House for two years.
The left isn’t that lucky though...ironically....

It's weird how you people think that you can just make crazy demands and that people will accede to them.
Remember how Trump was going to make Mexico pay for the wall? And remember how that's not happening now? That's because Trump (and you people) had some weird delusion that you could just demand something crazy and Mexico was going to go along with it.
I wonder if you people will ever come to realize/admit that the real world doesn't work like that or if you'll just continue to spit rhetoric and live in delusion.
bass4funk
Because we can and we will with NK, there’s no way around it and this administration just won’t allow them to continue with Nukes. NK doesn’t call the shots at all on this, they either completely disarm or we go to the next step, whatever that means.
Yes and I also remember when China blinked on the possible tariff war, now they want to sit down and negotiate....
Don't see the illegal aliens trying to get in, oh, that’s right, ICE agents are on their way to the border.
Uh-huh....lol
bass4funk
That would depend on the President, Mattis and Bolton.
At this point, I don’t think China is that stupid to try and take on the US, Russia, nope, don’t think so, nothing in it for them.
Actually, it doesn’t because, we keep squeezing Kim, blocking every access to cash, blocking more and more ships and boats trying to sneak whatever into that country, pretty soon, he will have exhausted all of his federal reserve and personal cash, China blinks, Bolton already hinted at hitting China with sanctions, so No, NK doesn’t call the shots at all, that’s why they stopped even demanding that the US leave the Peninsula.
That has not been decided as the final answer. We shall see.
Strangerland
Just like you are making Mexico pay for the wall, right?
Creating billions of dollars worth of tariffs = 'blinking'. Yeah, right.
The delusion is strong with this one.
bass4funk
That depends, Russia is already hurting financially and Trump being testy and never knowing which way he’ll bend is very perplexing and unnerving for the Chinese, Trump amidst all the angst he gave a lot of people about tariffs, China has proven its more of a paper dragon than anything else.
Not really.
Yes, I remember in 1991 when James Baker met with Tariq Aziz and Baker tried for 6 hours to negotiate to have Saddam leave Kuwait, they talked for 6 hours and couldn’t get an agreement and well, a few days later bombs were dropping on them. So Kim (if he’s smart and with the patience Bolton, Mattis and Trump have) should really think about if he is reall serious or thinks that these 3 men don’t mean business. As Trump said, if they are not serious and don’t respond to which site or where shall we pick up the nukes, I have a gnawing feeling that 1991 will happen all over again.
Good, let them do that with the little money and food they have left.
Agreed.
Yes, that’s why everything liberals touch when it comes to liberal appeasement policies sink like the Titanic.

Whoa, strong counter bro! ROFL Kuddos.

You're so right, our weaponry is a lot more accurate these days and we have the F-22 and F-35 now, keep them oiled, lubbed amd greased up.
bass4funk
That term means nothing to me and I’m sure it means nothing to the other 3, they are (and rightfully so) concerned with America and the safety of American and its allies. NK knows the terms and now it claims to be sincere, then if so, the terms are simple, denuclearize, allow unfettered and access to all sites, random checks then we can star talking about concessions, if not....
Tommy Jones
Equating the DPRK with Iraq in Kuwait is ridiculous for several reasons. The first is the geography. The second is the proximity to the capital cities of two major allies. The third is the weapons the DPRK possesses. The fourth is the delivery systems the DPRK possesses. The fifth is the major ally - China - the DPRK has.
Need I go on?
Tommy Jones
Trump and his team have been trying to get the DPRK to give up its nukes and missiles for over a year now. If they were going to be successful, they would have been by now. It's a total witch hunt by the administration.
Serrano
"Trump and his team have been trying to get the DPRK to give up its nukes and missiles for over a year now. If they were going to be successful, they would have been by now."
Good grief... where to begin... First, how about Barack and Bush Jr. each had eight years, and Bubba, who gave NK billions in taxpayer dollars, couldn't stop NK from acquiring nukes and missiles? Hmmm?
Watch Trump be the president who denuclearized NK, and weep. Except your tears will be tears of anguish instead of tears of joy as they should be, Tommy.
