Then why do you watch the Clinton News Network if you hate that?

you see the flaw in your thinking?

Not at all- please explain in detail.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Then why do you watch it?" Ah, the familiar refrain from the lefties when someone criticizes some media slop that they love. I dont watch SNL - its just not good enough. In fact its pretty poor. The Trump skits I watch - when they appear suddenly as "news" on the Clinton News Network or similar. You dont like what I posted. So why read it? you see the flaw in your thinking?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Outrider and Strangerland, please do not address each other any further on this thread.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Strangerland, I see. So its, "share my lame sense of humour or stand accused of "idol worship!" No thanks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Im forgetting - "humour is subjective".

Yep, you sure are, because the line Kellyanne, I just retweeted the best tweet. Wow, what a great, smart, tweet, as an item of satire, was absolutely hilarious. Even if you don't find it as something to laugh at, on an intellectual level, you must be able to see how its satire, and therefore funny to some people. If you can't see that, then you must be blinded by idol-worship.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The Clinton News Network continues to show the pathetically un-funny SNL skits on its "news" broadcasts. I suppose we shouldnt be surprised that CNN also showed, and played for laughs, the video of that cretin in australia punching a kangaroo in the face. Oh, but Im forgetting - "humour is subjective".

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Well, not really.

You're trying to claim humor is not subjective, in a topic where one of us thinks something is funny, and the other doesn't.

Seems legit.

Corny and hokey is corny and hokey

Sometimes corny and hokey is funny. But in this case, I wouldn't call it corny or hokey. We have a president-elect, who is an avid twitter-warrer, and this is a comedic portrayal of his twitting. That's satire, not corny and hokey.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Strangerland, Well, not really. Corny and hokey is corny and hokey - though I understand you would like it.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

" chortlers" aside, it just isnt funny.

Humor is subjective.

I guess if it's criticizing your idol, you wouldn't find it funny.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

bass: Hartman was without a doubt in the top 10 of the funniest comedian SNL had.

(Hartman as Bill Clinton) "There's a lot of things we aren't going to tell Mrs. Clinton about."

One of the best ever.

" chortlers" aside, it just isnt funny.

The anointed one can't deal with criticism, and like his thugs working for him his first instinct is to silence anyone he disagrees with.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Haven't watched any of the SNL Trump skits yet. Trump is indeed a tantrum throwing man-baby.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Anthony Atamanuik is way better than Baldwin.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

"Because half the electorate is even dumber than Trump."

More than half, Stranger, more than half the electorate voted for Hillary!

"Hope DT will grow up before the inauguration. This is embarrassing."

Hope Hillary is arrested soon, her mockery of the FBI and the Justice Department is embarrassing.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

"Trump should need to be fully grown up like late Ronald Regan. Unlike Regan, Trump has no Presidential charm, maturity, grace, civilized manner, tolerance, diplomacy and wisdom."

What should scare all people is Trump very likely believes he has many, if not all, of these qualities in abundance.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Trump should need to be fully grown up like late Ronald Regan. Unlike Regan, Trump has no Presidential charm, maturity, grace, civilized manner, tolerance, diplomacy and wisdom. If someone can not handle the heat, he or she should not enter the kitchen.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

He definitely changed the rules, the question is whether America will regain its sanity and change them back.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Trump changed the rules by using Twitter.

Trump uses Twitter to spread lies.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

You can laugh now, but it will go down in history as a turning point in the power of "the press."

Breaking news! There are events known as "press conferences," during which people can exchange ideas that exceed 18 characters. This may sound bizarre, but, at least through the Obama administration, they exist.

there was plenty of material, his vanity being one. His verbal slip ups being another.

Examples please.

Your description of his is typical of the problem - the iconographic hero worship that no politician should ever be given.

He is a decent, intelligent man who is hard to ridicule. That's not 'iconographic hero worship', it's just an acknowledgement of the facts.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Obama is a decent, intelligent man, someone hard to ridicule.

Not as easy to ridicule as Trump, but there was plenty of material, his vanity being one. His verbal slip ups being another. Your description of his is typical of the problem - the iconographic hero worship that no politician should ever be given.

So far as Twitter, I think it's great. The alternative is relying on the corporate media, which has shown it will try to hinder Trump every step of the way. Trump changed the rules by using Twitter. You can laugh now, but it will go down in history as a turning point in the power of "the press."

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Hope DT will grow up before the inauguration. This is embarrassing.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Keep your hair on , DT. You are already Rug of the Year. no need to keep up the endless tweeting - its not dignified. although Alec Baldwin is a bit of a d++k. another one whose best performance was in Team America

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"If that be true, how did he beat "the most qualified" candidate for the presidency, Hillary Clinton, who had the support of Obama, his wife, the media, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Bruce Springsteen?"

A good job for you that Jay Z didn't turn out for Trump. Trump would have lost about half his votes.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I think I hurt my thumb having to scroll down to get below these other messages. Demographic boys are now accepting your calls... I think Lauer should have asked him what he thought of the Hillary imitation. Oh no, did spell Lauer right? Now I have to scroll all the way up and back again. Oh noooooooooooooooooooo!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

If that be true, how did he beat "the most qualified" candidate for the presidency, Hillary Clinton, who had the support of Obama, his wife, the media, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Bruce Springsteen?

As PTownsend and others have noted, the answer to this question is, he beat Clinton because of the perverse and anti-democratic distribution of votes in the electoral college system.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I can't wait to see what the comedy world has to say about Trump appointing Linda McMahon from WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, which is fake wrestling for the amusement of those who think pizzagate was real) to his cabinet. The clown car is filling.

I also can't wait to read the latest tweet from Trump Towers. By the way, is Trump charging the US government, i.e. the US taxpayers, for letting him use his buildings?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"she beat him with the popuar vote"

Yeah in California, lol.

In the entire country. L on that OL.

How do we know it's fake?

Because it's been shown to be fake, by anyone who isn't a tin-foil hatter.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@turbotsat, the only logical reason that local, state, and federal police, not to mention Interpol and the KGB, are not raiding the D.C. pizza joint? It all needed to be handled by one scruffy millenial with a rifle from North Carolina?

I'll strain my brain and say it must be that there is nothing demonstrably criminal going on there, making Pizzagate a prime example of fake news. Any other conspiracies you need shredded like a hunk o' cheese?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If that be true, how did he beat "the most qualified" candidate for the presidency, Hillary Clinton, who had the support of Obama, his wife, the media, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Bruce Springsteen?

Because half the electorate is even dumber than Trump.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

What a pity "Spitting Image" isn't running in the UK any more... now THAT was biting satire. Trump would have been mercilessly parodied, and rightly so. Then again, the man is a self-parody anyway.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

TorafusuTorasan: completely bogus Pizzagate

Not addressed, not proven bogus.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Mind-boggling that a soon-to-be-POTUS would waste his time on this tripe. So unqualified.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

@turbotsat, Mike Flynn Jr. already got fired by Trump over his lingering (i.e. post shooter) interest in the completely bogus Pizzagate. A teachable moment can come even from the likes of Trump: Spread fake news, get fired.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Although I support Trump, I gotta admit the Alec Baldwin impersonations of him are hilarious. He really is just giving him more ammo too the more he tweets and speaks out about it.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

PTownsend: pizzagate and other fake news.

How do we know it's fake? Just because the media refuses to address it?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

"she beat him with the popuar vote"

Yeah in California, lol. Hey, the Electoral College, with California's 55 votes, was hers to lose andshe lost it! Hee hee!

"He is so dumb he doesn't even know he is dumb"

If that be true, how did he beat "...

Actually the Republican pres-elect got fewer votes than Clinton; she beat him with the popular vote. And though the US has produced lots of Nobel scientists and lots of great thinkers, you don't have to go far to find dozens of millions of Americans who actually believe things like Obama's going to declare martial law and take your guns, Clinton leaked state secrets through her email, pizzagate and other fake news. Rupert Murdoch and the alt right media understand that the base population in the US are easily manipulated and not what you'd call deep thinkers. So does Trump. Go talk to folk at your nearest Walmart; see for yourself. Hey, Ted Nugent's a Trump supporter. That must make y'all feel good!

Baldwin does a very good impersonation but the show is meh.

With that said, its a million times better than the Japanese comedians portraying trump!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

"That supports my narrative. Obama is the straight man, until he morphs into the incredible Hulk. Parodies aren't usually designed to flatter their subjects. The fact is, the mainstream comedians wouldn't touch Obama. Instead of being social critics, they were in awe of the man."

Politics aside, if you are a comedian, who provides the most to work with - Trump or Obama? Trump looks ridiculous, has an outsized ego, rarely strays out of two-syllable words, has bitchy late night Twitter spats, threatens to sue everyone....etc. Comedians feel like the proverbial mosquito in the nudist camp.

He's created much of this ridiculous image himself. His pouty bitching about it being ridiculed is even more ridiculous.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Rik314: "Common sense.... decisions"? Why has DT bankrupted himself a number of times.

Because as we all know, if you don't completely succeed on your first try then you can never be considered a success, even if you go on to make billions of dollars later. Resiliency and perseverance are for losers.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

"He is so dumb he doesn't even know he is dumb"

If that be true, how did he beat "the most qualified" candidate for the presidency, Hillary Clinton, who had the support of Obama, his wife, the media, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Jay Z and Bruce Springsteen?

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

I'm not sure which is the better comedy: SNL, Trump, or Trump vs SNL. As we have and will see, Trump is out of his league. The idiot seems to not 'get' that the more he whines on Twitter, the more people will watch SNL.

Serrano - are you serious? Why DT is person of the year? It is not always for the 'good guy' - Hitler was also Time's recipient. "Common sense.... decisions"? Why has DT bankrupted himself a number of times.
2 ( +4 / -2 )

That supports my narrative

That comedians pick low hanging fruit, shoot fish in a barrel, i.e. go after the easiest targets, in this case the most clownish figure to take public office in decades? A man who communicates via tweets?

Obama is a decent, intelligent man, someone hard to ridicule. Except of course for those who continue to make racist remarks about him and his wife. Fortunately those sorts of messages only work with the lowest forms of any population and are only picked up by the fringe right media who use the US 1st Amendment to hide behind. Hate his politics if you will, but only the most bigoted will try to say he's not a decent, intelligent human being.

0dd, isn't it, that the Republican who might lead the US is whining about some in the media mocking him. Shouldn't mocking leaders also be protected by the 1st Amendment? Are Trump and his supporters saying the Constitution should only protect those with power and wealth and those whose politics they agree with?

On that note, I found it curious that mods on this site let posters repeatedly call Obama monkey, gorilla, ape and other blatantly racist names. Maybe they're hiding behind free speech here in Japan. Or maybe

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Trump possesses the attributes presidents need to have that Obama doesn't have - the brains and the common sense to make the right decisions.

Whatever qualities Trump may possess, brains and commonsense are certainly not among them, as he keeps reminding us on a daily basis. He is so dumb he doesn't even know he is dumb. Roll on impeachment as soon as possible, then the world may still have a chance.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

"Agree with him politically or not, President Obama possesses two of the most important attributes presidents need to have that Trump doesn't have--and never will have: a broad intellect and the discipline to think carefully and calmly before speaking or taking action."

Yeah? Well, Trump possesses the attributes presidents need to have that Obama doesn't have - the brains and the common sense to make the right decisions.

SNL used to be good, they suck now.

In Trump's mind he can humiliate, insult, condescend anything or anyone he wants, but the minute he's on the receiving end he quickly cries foul. "It's unfair, it's not funny, it's a vicious attack on me".

Trump, please grow a pair. Get it together man. You are honestly the oldest biggest egocentric crybaby. At one of the debates with Clinton, you proudly said that you had the temperament to be POTUS, but now you're crying over a parody. You boy, are quite pathetic.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I'm sorry if this disappoints your narrative.

That supports my narrative. Obama is the straight man, until he morphs into the incredible Hulk. Parodies aren't usually designed to flatter their subjects. The fact is, the mainstream comedians wouldn't touch Obama. Instead of being social critics, they were in awe of the man.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Wow, if Trump melts down over SNL, I have mixed feelings about the inevitable upcoming North Korea-Russia-China banter. On one hand it'll be amusing, on the other it may be destructive

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I must have missed all the Obama parodies on SNL. Any links?

I'm sorry if this disappoints your narrative.

Among others.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

“There are certain things that come with the presidency — the football with the (nuclear) codes, Air Force One and being parodied on ‘Saturday Night Live,’”

I must have missed all the Obama parodies on SNL. Any links?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Trump is far too stupid to realise his childish tantrums have exactly the opposite effect to what he intended. He is guaranteeing the success of the show. Agree though that the original material of the Dumpster himself is much funnier and more ridiculous than any parody could be.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Hartman was without a doubt in the top 10 of the funniest comedian SNL had.

If not the world. I loved that guy, I still miss him sometimes.

I remember Dana Carvey as George 'Read My Lips, No New Taxes' Bush

I still repeat his "not gonna do it. Nooooot gonna do it" impression of Bush.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Funny, I remember Dana Carvey as George 'Read My Lips, No New Taxes' Bush and Ross 'Hai-larious' Perot. He was Clinton too?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Don't forget Phil Hartman.

Hartman was without a doubt in the top 10 of the funniest comedian SNL had.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

bass: Carvey was also funny paroding Bill Clinton

Don't forget Phil Hartman.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

It stopped being funny for a long time. One of Trump's only successes is that the show is now starting to become funny again. Well done, Trump! And the angrier he gets, with his inability to take simple criticism, the more fuel the show gets to become even more so. He's like a two-year-old.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Soon Baldwin will parody Trump complaining about Baldwin parodying Trump, which Trump will complain about and Baldwin will subsequently parody, and al of time and space will suddenly shift to a different dimension. It's that serious.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

It was funny in the beginning, Baldwin can be funny at times, but now the jokes are wearing thin, but having said that, Trump needs to roll with the punches and expect comedians make fun of him, there is nothing wrong with political satire, being thin-skinned won't cushion or stop the comedians to skewer him, in fact, the jokes might increase to their (comedians) advantage. I still think Will Ferrell was the funniest Bush impersonator around, Carvey was also funny paroding Bill Clinton.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Using his platform to target groups like SNL is just a waste of time and makes Trump look petty. No upside whatsoever, but I suspect he can't control himself.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

I agree with Trump on these skits not being very funny. I watched a few of them and was pretty shocked that they couldn't do better with Trump. Regardless of your political views, this man is a endless supply of top-drawer material for comedians and satirists. If you can't do better with Trump, who was beautifully described as the Rodney Dangerfield of billionaires, you need new writers.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Non-US visitors to the US get ready for longer queues if you come to the US.

After all the crap I've spouted about Trump over the past year, I'll be surprised if I'm even allowed in after he's inaugurated.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

'I'm going to build that swamp.'

I chortled, too.

But it might not be funny for some supporting the Republican chosen to be president by the electoral college to watch as he continues to fill the swamp with more of his fellow establishment - banking, trade, military, political, etc. - elites.

Leopards cannot change their spots.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

I've never been a big fan, but recently I've been watching the clips of Baldwin's portrayal of Trump, because they keep popping up in the news, and Baldwin is excellent! It's pretty funny. The last one about tweeting was great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNvJ0GIIF8g

"Kellyanne, I just retweeted the best tweet. Wow, what a great, smart, tweet"

I chortled.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Lese majeste laws next?

I see the Republican soon to be chosen president by the electoral college appointed ANOTHER RETIRED GENERAL to his cabinet, this time as head of Homeland Security. Non-US visitors to the US get ready for longer queues if you come to the US.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

If you haven't watched the show since 1984, how do you know it 'has never recovered'?

(I don't think I've ever watched the show - no idea if it's funny or not.)

19 ( +21 / -2 )

It’s very biased and I don’t like it

Grow up! Amoeba are thicker skinned.

16 ( +16 / -0 )

Haven't watched the show since 1984. It stopped being funny back then and has never recovered.

-25 ( +3 / -28 )
