Does Trump still expect Microsoft to wet his beak for a cut of the heist?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

not unless you think "his beak" is the United States Treasury, then yes.

Otherwise, no.

“A very substantial portion of that price is going to have to come into the Treasury of the United States because we’re making it possible for this deal to happen,” Trump told reporters on Monday.

Trump thinks government money is his money, it's why he puts his name on the cheques when he gives people their own money back, and demands that states say thank you. He's the epitome of a crooked politician.

Trump or his treasury isn't going to be extorting any finders fee kickback from any Tiktok heist, the whole idea is just absurd and illegal.

Wouldnt be so sure about that.

If he can get some money for the American people (the US Treasury) through this deal, why not?

CFIUS legislation gives the U.S. government broad authority to seek mitigation from companies that are jeopardizing national security, legal experts said.

While CFIUS has never before sought a cut from the proceeds of a divestiture it has ordered, the White House could argue that imposing a fee on Bytedance would deprive it of resources that would otherwise support China’s government on technology initiatives that could harm U.S. interests, some of the legal experts added.

“It’s certainly inconsistent with the intent of Congress ... and with CFIUS’s long-standing concern to maintain a reputation for acting apolitically and solely on grounds of national security, but it’s not clear that it’s outside the president’s statutory authority,” said Paul Marquardt, a regulatory lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb.

State-sponsored extortion, it this Trump's new racket? It's a good look, I'm sure China will understand and not in any way retaliate.

Crikey, what a sewer Trump has made of America.

The question has to ba asked: should the US government take ownership in any form of private businesses like TikTok? Trump's studied Putin's methods of selling off government assets to his friends. Look at YRC Trucking, Trump's pals, who got a US$700,000,000 bailout package that includes the US government owning (whatever that means) part of the company. Does Trump want to then later 'sell' the government's shares of the company back to one of his friends? Doing things like that have made Putin the richest (arguably) person in the world. National socialism pays off - for the autocrat/kleptocrat and his chosen oligarchs.

That is not what the proposal is, and TikTok is not just a "private business"; it is connected at hip with the CCP. There is a reason that the Indian government recently banned the TikTok as well as 50 other CCP spy apps in India.

Not even a Lackadaisical effort to explain how money going into the US Treasury could possibly benefit Trumps personal finances?

just say it like an indisputable truth, throw Putin in there for obvious muh Russia Russia! reasons and move on to the next line of attack

sad effort.

I think so. When you get a smaller company, the government did the same thing with the phone company all the more reason why now everything is cheaper when you call.

Washington has been doing it before you and I were born.
