Together, we are going to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Trump always gives the impression that this is one of his originals but it's not, he borrowed it from the book "6 Days" written by Brendan DuBois in which there are many uncanny parallels to the current US political situation.

Lowest popularity of any president-elect in history, hated by more than half the nation, hated around the world, and a complete and utter moron who has spent years degrading others... he's not bringing a thing together except people with stock in Twitter.

Yeah, you just said things that ONLY the left care about. No wonder you guys keep losing elections, when you guys start focusing on issues that really matter instead of worrying who likes you, polls and worrying about what Hollyweird thinks and you might start winning some elections.

Go Trump!

We’re going to unify our country,” Trump told a cheering crowd

Trump's made no effort to unify anything. He regularly insults people who do not support him. I don't think I'll ever really know if the believes his own bullshit or if he is just basking in the glory of speaking nonsense while people cheer.

Obama was a much more credible man, much more genuine.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

Patience while he gets his house in order.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

There's a time for politics and there's a time to respect the institution of the Presidency and the country.

Sorry@ Burning, but "respect" is something a politician has got to earn. Trump carved out his niche in the media by implying his predecessor was not native born, and ran an unbelievably slimy campaign, urging his followers to chant "Lock her up!" and other low blows too numerous to list here. His campaign dragged the institution of the presidency through the mud, and he continues to wallow in it every time he sends another of his infantile Twitter messages.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Trump's made no effort to unify anything.

That's what the partisans think, if the MSM were more fair and if haters would be serious in WANTING to be a unified nation, but because so many on the left hate him for whatever benign reason and give him a chance and overlook his flaws, you would see that he cares for the country and wants exactly that. I mean, the man met with Al Gore, come on, that says a lot that he's serious.

He regularly insults people who do not support him.

More, like he insults people that insult him first and don't even try, we can go on the net and find thousands of articles where the left have unleashed a slew of daily attacks and instead of judging the man and his efforts on what he wants to do, the left are seriously suffering from Trump syndrome and that's all they will ever see and in that hate and not to mention being sore losers, the only recourse is to insult and attack him and then when he strikes back, the left come unhinged as if Trump should take it. That just will never happen with Trump and good on him, why should he let the media define him even before he's sworn in?

I don't think I'll ever really know if the believes his own bullshit or if he is just basking in the glory of speaking nonsense while people cheer.

I thought the same about Obama, but with Obama, he actually believed in most of the garbage he was telling the people and the same goes for Hillary and that's why the left lost and good, they need a wake up call to bring their butts back to Earth and teach them a bit of humility.

Obama was a much more credible man, much more genuine.

And that's all he had to offer for 8 years: charm and nothing else and oh, a Nobel Peace Prize. I'm still trying to figure out for what though.....

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

Well, Obama was a "community organizer" & he got through Two Terms- Thanks to Chicago's political machine. Trump will work for the U.S. ALL of us.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

"About a third of U.S. House Democrats will boycott Friday’s ceremony"

Not since Lincoln's Inauguration have so many Democrats boycotted the event.

Obama's popularity vs Trump's: bear in mind that the same pollsters making these claims also gave Hillary a 85%+ probability of being elected.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Obama is leaving office with a 60% favorable rating. That's a nice goodbye from the American people, and pretty high when you consider the sheer number of nutballs out there.

He held himself with great dignity and class despite an openly hostile and sometimes racist opposition. He never once lost his cool.

And that's all he's got....and that nice suit.

He held himself with great dignity and class despite an openly hostile and sometimes racist opposition. He never once lost his cool.

You are right, he just did in a sneaky backstabbing snide way or would shove the blame to others unlike Trump that will fire back like a Tomahawk missile.

Moderator: Your comments are becoming obsessive. You need to learn to be tolerant of criticism of Donald Trump without feeling the need to respond to every Trump critic.

It's weird all these people on the right telling the left not to do the same thing they just did for eight years.

Did they think the left wasn't watching or something?

bass4funk: "when you guys start focusing on issues that really matter instead of worrying who likes you,"

Hahaha! This?? from a TRUMP supporter? A guy who, on MLK Jr's birthday attacks a civil rights hero because the man said something bad about him? Classic!

"...polls and worrying about what Hollyweird thinks and you might start winning some elections."

I like how you follow up your hypocrisy with the perfect example of "Hollyweird" -- focussing an entire community that does not like Trump rather than the issues of why.

But hey, from a guy who gets his news from Conservative rags like The National Review and Fox Five, well...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's weird all these people on the right telling the left not to do the same thing they just did for eight years.

64 members boycotting the presidential inauguration, fine by us, but I really don't want the left to whine that they are for unity, absolutely not and as small their numbers are and they want to go up against a giant GOP base, well, good luck, the left is going to need all of it and then some. Even Obama and Hillary will be there, I'm not an Obama lover at all, but at least, he's adult enough to be the big boy in the room and Hillary as well. Kudos to them.

Did they think the left wasn't watching or something?

Hey, just a little advice, whether the left heeds it or not, I couldn't care less, I want the country to see how foolish these loons are.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

To an educated audience, the use of the term "MSM" and similar terms/tropes common to the "alt.right" blogosphere identify their users as marginally-educated outliers whose views should not be taken seriously.

"Obama is leaving office with a 60% favorable rating. That's a nice goodbye from the American people, and pretty high when you consider the sheer number of nutballs out there."

That is very impressive considering the attacks on him from the right ranged from the insane ( he's the anti-Christ ) to the plain ignorant ( he's a Muslim ) to the tabloid trash ( the birthers ). As that kind of stupidity and insanity can be disposed of like the trash it is, considered and thoughtful opinion against him isn't that high.

A very decent man who was wise enough not to sink to the level of the trash attacking him.

No wonder you guys keep losing elections, when you guys start focusing on issues that really matter instead of worrying who likes you, polls and worrying about what Hollyweird thinks and you might start winning some elections.

The Democrats might start winning elections when the Electoral College gets fixed and the Republicans' $30m screwing around with House redistricting is undone. Admittedly some more inspiring candidates than Hillary Clinton would help. But perhaps it's not liberals you should be thinking about. Trump's election victory is not something to really boast about, given that he got less votes than the loser.

Yes, he won by the rules, it's all in the past, there's no point in complaining about it any more, etc etc etc, but what are all those people who voted for Hillary Clinton do when the Mid-Terms come around in a couple of years? Perhaps all those conservatives who are feeling so pleased with themselves right at the moment should be keeping their fingers crossed that Trump and the GOP really do a fantastic job and the Democrats don't get their act together.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Oh, so NOW he wants unity! Excuse me while I throw up in my mouth. Three words: Not. Gonna. Happen. He ran the most divisive campaign in modern history, and his actions since (including his cabinet picks) have only served to exacerbate, not mend, divisions; his dismal 40% approval rating is almost exclusively from a single demographic, one with a tendency to admire Confederate flags and Putin.

I look forward to the backlash. It will be vicious.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Who knows? Maybe Trump will surprise us.

Maybe he will keep his promises... like his terrific health "insurance for everybody", rebuild the country's infrastructure, reduce taxes. All sounds good.

Fair warning though, we start counting Trump's contribution to the national debt the second he's inaugurated. Any and all budget deficit this year, on Trump and the GOP. We'll wait till Jan 2019, just to be nice, to hang the entire debt around his neck. Anything above, let's say 16 trillion, a fail. That's fair, right?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Heh - confederate flag with a gimp suit sounds about right, if not strange attire to those of us not dwelling in a basement.

And so it goes. Trump will be 45. In terms of damage to the US, it's not what - but how much.....

3 ( +5 / -2 )

That is very impressive considering the attacks on him from the right ranged from the insane ( he's the anti-Christ ) to the plain ignorant ( he's a Muslim ) to the tabloid trash ( the birthers ). As that kind of stupidity and insanity can be disposed of like the trash it is, considered and thoughtful opinion against him isn't that high.

Well, in a few hours we won't have to worry about the past anymore.

A very decent man who was wise enough not to sink to the level of the trash attacking him.

Uh-huh, lol

The Democrats might start winning elections when the Electoral College gets fixed and the Republicans' $30m screwing around with House redistricting is undone.

That will never happen. But if they ever win in the future and they can benefit from it, as God is my witness, they would never want it to change. Before this election, they never uttered a word about it and this was never an issue. Go figure.

Admittedly some more inspiring candidates than Hillary Clinton would help. But perhaps it's not liberals you should be thinking about. Trump's election victory is not something to really boast about, given that he got less votes than the loser.

I think it's everything to boast about and more!

Yes, he won by the rules,

And that's our system and nothing else from this point matters.

it's all in the past, there's no point in complaining about it any more, etc etc etc, but what are all those people who voted for Hillary Clinton do when the Mid-Terms come around in a couple of years?

I'll tell you what, at the rate the ways the Dems are behaving themselves, if they ever gain another seat it would be astounding.

Perhaps all those conservatives who are feeling so pleased with themselves right at the moment should be keeping their fingers crossed that Trump and the GOP really do a fantastic job and the Democrats don't get their act together.

You're right, but I also don't believe it's in the liberal DNA to restrain themselves from lashing out and to cut their vindictive nature. We will see.

"Trump will cap an extraordinary and improbable run"

Well, it sure was stacked against him, lessee, he was running against the Establishment, both Democrat and Republican, most of the media, the president of the United States who used taxpayer money to campaign for the most corrupt candidate in history, his wife, Beyonce, Jay Z, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Alec Baldwin, Cher, Michael Moore, Robert Deniro...

"Obama commuted the sentences of 330 people, mostly drug offenders, called Chancellor Angela Merkel to declare U.S.-Germany ties “essential,” and took a parting shot at Congress for blocking his efforts to shutter the military prison at Guantanamo Bay."

We need to keep Gitmo open for awhile longer, Obama.

"Lowest popularity of any president-elect in history"

Says the people who said he couldn't win the election, ha ha!

Given the way he's attacked members of the GOP, a party he himself was never really a member of before he decided to bigfoot it posing as a tea-party candidate, it is likely they`ll throw him under the bus as soon as the price to be paid for defending him and his cabinet in ethics committee hearings becomes more than their constituents can stomach. Mid-terms in two years' time, electioneering never rests.

Is it? Why? The President is someone the majority of Americans don't want?

"Yes, he won by the rules,"

And that's our system and nothing else from this point matters.

You don't think 2.9 million people who voted for Hillary Clinton will matter when it's time for the Mid-Terms?

I'll tell you what, at the rate the ways the Dems are behaving themselves, if they ever gain another seat it would be astounding.

They weren't looking too clever in 2000 or 2004 either. Look what happened in 2006 and 2008.

Sorry, but I'm not talking about California, NY or Mass. or some of the coastal areas.

You don't think 2.9 million people who voted for Hillary Clinton will matter when it's time for the Mid-Terms?

That's going to be a very tall ladder to climb and if the Dems want to win anything in the future, grandstanding, whining and frowning, protesting and being belligerent isn't going to help, Dems are already at a disadvantage politically, they don't have the numbers, if the Dems WERE doing good, the GOP wouldn't have majorities for a long time now. Obama is solely responsible for destroying his party. now they have to try and rebuild it and take it from there. Maybe if they get a message, stop the hate, stop talking NON-stop about climate change, focus on jobs, smaller government, lower taxes and self-reliant and care about the working man, care about all races, including White people, they just might win a few.

They weren't looking too clever in 2000 or 2004 either. Look what happened in 2006 and 2008.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

It's amazing how the world watches over the US inauguration. When's the last time we paid attention to another one's country's inauguration?

They say democracy doesn't mature till there's a peaceful handover of power between opposing sides. Yet a lot of countries still haven't done that - look at what's happening in Gambia right now:

http://www.africanews.com/2017/01/20/live-from-the-gambia-barrow-celebrations-jammeh-s-final-ultimatum/

I'm all for people giving Trump a chance. But people don't forget the insults, even when they accept him as President.

(Reminds us of an old boss - he insulted his way up the corporate ladder, and when he got there, he didn't have much friends left but a lot of disgruntled coworkers - suffice to say, he couldn't accomplice much since he couldn't get enough help - his performance suffered and thus lost his job.)

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Not just that, but at least that these disastrous 8 years are over, we can finally, finally get our country back and be proud and have a strong country again and NOT a country that is weak and the people are highly dependent on government.

Before a rightist chimes in with a 'who cares about celebs', just remember the GOP tried to get Justin Beiber for the convention but it seemed he saw it as beneath him. Quite the thought. A man many Canadians see as trash wouldn't lower himself to the level of the GOP.

You liberals just don't get it. Those States can't dictate to the rest of the country who's going to be the next president. The Dems had a very bad candidate, pure and simple, also, Hillary didn't go to Wisconsin, NOT once, blew them off, calling the majority of Trump voters and even once Obama supporters that Trump flipped deplorable. That was another shot to her candidacy and that pissed off a lot of people. Anyway, that's not our system, millions of Americans weren't happy with Obama or Hillary, if they were, Trump would have never won Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan and Penn. I am not a Republican and not even really a Trump fan - yet. He has no governing compass that I know of. He will likely do what the last two presidents did - double the national debt. It he doesn't, then I can be won over. America is so ideologically split it isn't all that surprising that a political outsider (way outside) was put in power by the people of the 50 states. Yeah Electoral College!!!

I liked his inaugural speech because he acknowledged the severe crisis that many communities in America face. He seems to want to devote his energies primarily towards rebuilding them - and not to nation building or to protecting a Europe which has to the means to protect itself. Let's not sugarcoat the situation. Eight years of Bush and eight more of Obama have left America $20 trillion in debt, with no plan for success economically or in protecting itself from terrorism or even from millions of illegal immigrants. Add today the racial polarization in America today - that is all on Obama. America's education system and culture has been perverted such that we have raised a generation of young people that hate America, hate white people, and hate the nations past achievements.

bass4funk is right - we finally have something positive to look forward to.

@SuperLib: We just replaced a man of character and dignity with a cheap salesman with a temper and empty promises.

Are you referring to the same Obama whose character includes sitting silently in a black supremacist church for 17 years and who assumed every white cop was a klansman with a badge? I can't defend Trumps character - who can really. But after Clinton molested his way through the White House I am more interested in the Economy and the national debt than nitpicking over every utterance of a loud-mouthed New Yorker. Washington is corrupt and serves only itself and the elite donor class. I doubt Trump can end that corruption but if he can take them down a peg or two - I would love to see that.

It's your government now. Good luck.

Hopefully the government will be returned to the people - laws will be passed by the legislature and enforced by Trump's administration. But of course not before Trump uses his executive authority to undo all of Obama's executive orders.

Oh and I sure am looking forward to the Supreme Court justice announcement in the next two weeks. I hope it's Ted Cruze!

Or Judge Napolitano.

Democrats opposed to a Trump presidency are organizing.

About a third of U.S. House Democrats will boycott Friday’s ceremony. In the Senate, Democrats are obstructing the path of Trump’s cabinet nominees, only a handful of whom look to be confirmed Friday.

I'm not sure that Trump, or elected Republicans, care if some elected Democrats wish to stand on the sidelines jeering while the buisness of government continues on without them.

anonymous - To an educated audience, the use of the term "MSM" and similar terms/tropes common to the "alt.right" blogosphere identify their users as marginally-educated outliers whose views should not be taken seriously.

I'll suggest that anyone who uses the term "alt.right" should be included in your "marginally-educated outliers whose views should not be taken seriously" group.

Simon Foston - Yes, he won by the rules, it's all in the past, there's no point in complaining about it any more, etc etc etc, but what are all those people who voted for Hillary Clinton do when the Mid-Terms come around in a couple of years?

And yet people are still complaining about it. Interesting? Not really.

Jimizo - The majority of the US electorate voted against Trump. More people voted for Clinton than Trump.

In the 2008 Democrat Primary election, more Democrats voted for Hillary than for Obama. 272,809 more. But Obama received 294 more Democrat delegates. Obama won and became the Democrat Party's candidate. Hillary lost, according to the rules. I suggest that if the Democrats want to change election rules, they should start with the rules of their own political party.

Super: "We just replaced a man of character and dignity..."

Um, no.

"... with a cheap salesman with a temper and empty promises."

Um, no.

"It's your government now"

Um, no. It's OUR government, Super.

Yes, that's a good point. I just fail to see what that has to do with Trump supporters arguing that the BBC was wrong to cover protests against Trump given that the majority of the electorate voted against him.

You mean Cruz? The one Trump kept referring to as "lyin' Ted"? Was that just another "euphenism"? Well, I guess everything that comes out of Trump's orifice is just hot air, so, well, sure, it's possible.

Perhaps they should if they screw everything up and the Democrats find someone who can call them out on it. They don't exactly have what I would call a solid bedrock of support.

I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering if such a "victory" is a secure foundation for more electoral success.

Thank you for the spelling correction. That was very nice of you. Yeah - "lying Ted" believes in the Constitution as written - not as imagined among the utopian Leftists of America. It doesn't seem like Trump holds grudges. The nomination process was just business. He was even gracious to the Clintons today. The election was just business. Now on to the business of eliminating as much of Obama's "legacy" as possible. For most of it should only require a pen and a phone to overturn.

If i was president there would be 0% unemployment within 5 years.

I would simply create $1 trillion dollars debt, to create 9 million jobs.

Borrow $5 trillion dollars for 5 years then pay back the $5 trillion dollars. In that time we would have made $1.5 trillion dollars cash.

6% of $1.5 trillion dollars is $90 billion pa in income from interest.

It cost $20 billion dollars to create 2 million min wage jobs.

That there is 9 million jobs.

I would borrow $10 trillion for 5 years the pay it back. We could create 18 million jobs, 4 million more then the unemployed.

Create 14 million jobs 30% over min wage.

Now with no unemployment we can pay back debt like this.

With all new work pay tax money + sales going up meaning more biz tax money coming in, we can pay back debt. We can cut the $1.2 trillion dollars big biz jobs package and pay back debt.

I would say we could repay $1 - $2 trillion dollars a year. 10 - 20 years to clear debt.

Really i would just go bust, just after you make 14 million jobs. The outlook is going to be huge, so folding on debt will do nothing at all.

After doing the above, i would make a 3% GST tax on goods, to make the states rich. They self fund departments for life with the income.

Say they make a 3% GST tax that makes $8 billion pa. They self fund 1 department for life each year.

In Adelaide it cost $400 million to pay for the hospital running cost. You hand it $10 billion dollars in a interest fund, that makes $600 million pa. $400 million pays to run it and the extra $200 million left over makes 6% pa. That left over $200 million pays for a 33% rise in budget cost each year, or a $15 million dollar increase in running cost pa for life. Self funded for life.

Over 20 years every state budget will be self funded for life, saving the states mass billions with no future budget cost with rising taxes from pop size.

What's $1 trillion dollars extra debt from $20 trillion? not much all so they might as well just do it.

Yeah - "lying Ted" believes in the Constitution as written - not as imagined among the utopian Leftists of America.

OK, put on that powdered wig and tricorner hat, go back in time, step inside the founding fathers' heads, and soak up that sublime and unalterable wisdom of the enlightenment era. Does Cruz share the ancient ones' thoughts about black people and slavery? Do you?

Let's face it. Both conservatives and progressives favor constitutional interpretation and change when it suits them. Which proves that the constitution is a living document. Or political football. That's America.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Yeah, Cruz would never make it to the Supreme Court. He's hated by his own party. Sure, you can frame the argument as "the leftists don't want him so that's good" but everyone to the right of Ted, which is a vast majority of the public, don't support him.

OK, put on that powdered wig and tricorner hat, go back in time, step inside the founding fathers' heads, and soak up that sublime and unalterable wisdom of the enlightenment era.

You don't have to go back in time to read the Constitution. You can read it today in the public library. And you are right, the Constitution is a living document. But it lives through the amendment process and not by the old stale `

Does Cruz share the ancient ones' thoughts about black people and slavery? Do you?

Cruz is a Republican and Republican's have never supported slavery. The Democrat party is the party of slavery and not even the party of the KKK still supports such inhumanity. Although - the Dems are slowly instituting their own version of Jim Crowe for white (particularly white heterosexual) males. Dems consider white America to be innately racist and through no other fault but the color of their skin are morally inferior to "people of color" (as if white isn't a color).

You have to wonder what Dems will be thinking about themselves 25~50 years from now when America is a majority minority country and they are still flogging white people for the sins of generations past. I think identity politics and white shaming is the only thing that really keeps Democrats from truly becoming a national party. They are ensuring that the nation remains racially divided. Dems use racial animosity as their go to method to mobilize the base to get out and vote.

Your asking me if I support slavery is akin to me asking you if you support pedophilia. Asinine.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Well maybe someday white, heterosexual males will get a fighting chance in America.
