Well maybe someday white, heterosexual males will get a fighting chance in America.
Wolfpack
You don't have to go back in time to read the Constitution. You can read it today in the public library. And you are right, the Constitution is a living document. But it lives through the amendment process and not by the old stale `
Cruz is a Republican and Republican's have never supported slavery. The Democrat party is the party of slavery and not even the party of the KKK still supports such inhumanity. Although - the Dems are slowly instituting their own version of Jim Crowe for white (particularly white heterosexual) males. Dems consider white America to be innately racist and through no other fault but the color of their skin are morally inferior to "people of color" (as if white isn't a color).
You have to wonder what Dems will be thinking about themselves 25~50 years from now when America is a majority minority country and they are still flogging white people for the sins of generations past. I think identity politics and white shaming is the only thing that really keeps Democrats from truly becoming a national party. They are ensuring that the nation remains racially divided. Dems use racial animosity as their go to method to mobilize the base to get out and vote.
Your asking me if I support slavery is akin to me asking you if you support pedophilia. Asinine.
SuperLib
Yeah, Cruz would never make it to the Supreme Court. He's hated by his own party. Sure, you can frame the argument as "the leftists don't want him so that's good" but everyone to the right of Ted, which is a vast majority of the public, don't support him.
plasticmonkey
OK, put on that powdered wig and tricorner hat, go back in time, step inside the founding fathers' heads, and soak up that sublime and unalterable wisdom of the enlightenment era. Does Cruz share the ancient ones' thoughts about black people and slavery? Do you?
Let's face it. Both conservatives and progressives favor constitutional interpretation and change when it suits them. Which proves that the constitution is a living document. Or political football. That's America.

If i was president there would be 0% unemployment within 5 years.
I would simply create $1 trillion dollars debt, to create 9 million jobs.
Borrow $5 trillion dollars for 5 years then pay back the $5 trillion dollars. In that time we would have made $1.5 trillion dollars cash.
6% of $1.5 trillion dollars is $90 billion pa in income from interest.
It cost $20 billion dollars to create 2 million min wage jobs.
That there is 9 million jobs.
I would borrow $10 trillion for 5 years the pay it back. We could create 18 million jobs, 4 million more then the unemployed.
Create 14 million jobs 30% over min wage.
Now with no unemployment we can pay back debt like this.
With all new work pay tax money + sales going up meaning more biz tax money coming in, we can pay back debt. We can cut the $1.2 trillion dollars big biz jobs package and pay back debt.
I would say we could repay $1 - $2 trillion dollars a year. 10 - 20 years to clear debt.
Really i would just go bust, just after you make 14 million jobs. The outlook is going to be huge, so folding on debt will do nothing at all.
After doing the above, i would make a 3% GST tax on goods, to make the states rich. They self fund departments for life with the income.
Say they make a 3% GST tax that makes $8 billion pa. They self fund 1 department for life each year.
In Adelaide it cost $400 million to pay for the hospital running cost. You hand it $10 billion dollars in a interest fund, that makes $600 million pa. $400 million pays to run it and the extra $200 million left over makes 6% pa. That left over $200 million pays for a 33% rise in budget cost each year, or a $15 million dollar increase in running cost pa for life. Self funded for life.
Over 20 years every state budget will be self funded for life, saving the states mass billions with no future budget cost with rising taxes from pop size.
What's $1 trillion dollars extra debt from $20 trillion? not much all so they might as well just do it.
Wolfpack
Thank you for the spelling correction. That was very nice of you. Yeah - "lying Ted" believes in the Constitution as written - not as imagined among the utopian Leftists of America. It doesn't seem like Trump holds grudges. The nomination process was just business. He was even gracious to the Clintons today. The election was just business. Now on to the business of eliminating as much of Obama's "legacy" as possible. For most of it should only require a pen and a phone to overturn.

Perhaps they should if they screw everything up and the Democrats find someone who can call them out on it. They don't exactly have what I would call a solid bedrock of support.
I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering if such a "victory" is a secure foundation for more electoral success.

You mean Cruz? The one Trump kept referring to as "lyin' Ted"? Was that just another "euphenism"? Well, I guess everything that comes out of Trump's orifice is just hot air, so, well, sure, it's possible.

I'm not sure that Trump, or elected Republicans, care if some elected Democrats wish to stand on the sidelines jeering while the buisness of government continues on without them.

Hopefully the government will be returned to the people - laws will be passed by the legislature and enforced by Trump's administration. But of course not before Trump uses his executive authority to undo all of Obama's executive orders.
Oh and I sure am looking forward to the Supreme Court justice announcement in the next two weeks. I hope it's Ted Cruze!
SuperLib

I am not a Republican and not even really a Trump fan - yet. He has no governing compass that I know of. He will likely do what the last two presidents did - double the national debt. It he doesn't, then I can be won over. America is so ideologically split it isn't all that surprising that a political outsider (way outside) was put in power by the people of the 50 states. Yeah Electoral College!!!
I liked his inaugural speech because he acknowledged the severe crisis that many communities in America face. He seems to want to devote his energies primarily towards rebuilding them - and not to nation building or to protecting a Europe which has to the means to protect itself. Let's not sugarcoat the situation. Eight years of Bush and eight more of Obama have left America $20 trillion in debt, with no plan for success economically or in protecting itself from terrorism or even from millions of illegal immigrants. Add today the racial polarization in America today - that is all on Obama. America's education system and culture has been perverted such that we have raised a generation of young people that hate America, hate white people, and hate the nations past achievements.
bass4funk is right - we finally have something positive to look forward to.
Are you referring to the same Obama whose character includes sitting silently in a black supremacist church for 17 years and who assumed every white cop was a klansman with a badge? I can't defend Trumps character - who can really. But after Clinton molested his way through the White House I am more interested in the Economy and the national debt than nitpicking over every utterance of a loud-mouthed New Yorker. Washington is corrupt and serves only itself and the elite donor class. I doubt Trump can end that corruption but if he can take them down a peg or two - I would love to see that.
Lizz
We just replaced a man of character and dignity with a cheap salesman with a temper and empty promises.
It is a similar slant to all these commemorative books and magazines that are coming out on the Obamas, and I work at a library and have seen quite a few. They mostly tend to emphasize his race and demeanor over any actual accomplishments.

??????? When's anyone ever said that they could, except in the imaginations of people like you?
So? None of them were exactly landslide victories, were they? In fact, if you put all the votes in all those States together, Trump got something like 200,000 more than Clinton. Hardly millions. If the Democrats manage to stop being so useless and the new Trump/GOP doesn't manage to achieve much, well, make the most of today but I'd save the wine and pizza for series 7 of Game of Thrones, personally. You liberals just don't get it. Those States can't dictate to the rest of the country who's going to be the next president. The Dems had a very bad candidate, pure and simple, also, Hillary didn't go to Wisconsin, NOT once, blew them off, calling the majority of Trump voters and even once Obama supporters that Trump flipped deplorable. That was another shot to her candidacy and that pissed off a lot of people. Anyway, that's not our system, millions of Americans weren't happy with Obama or Hillary, if they were, Trump would have never won Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan and Penn. Anyway, it's over and I need to get my pizza ready and pop that wine!!!!!

What, don't they count as part of the United States or something? Well, Trump might as well not bother talking about being a president for all Americans and unifying the country if there are attitudes like that going about.
The point being that it's stupid to write anyone off, just as it would clearly have been stupid to write off the GOP when the Democrats controlled the White House and Congress.

Before a rightist chimes in with a 'who cares about celebs', just remember the GOP tried to get Justin Beiber for the convention but it seemed he saw it as beneath him. Quite the thought. A man many Canadians see as trash wouldn't lower himself to the level of the GOP.

That's going to be a very tall ladder to climb and if the Dems want to win anything in the future, grandstanding, whining and frowning, protesting and being belligerent isn't going to help, Dems are already at a disadvantage politically, they don't have the numbers, if the Dems WERE doing good, the GOP wouldn't have majorities for a long time now. Obama is solely responsible for destroying his party. now they have to try and rebuild it and take it from there. Maybe if they get a message, stop the hate, stop talking NON-stop about climate change, focus on jobs, smaller government, lower taxes and self-reliant and care about the working man, care about all races, including White people, they just might win a few.

Given the way he's attacked members of the GOP, a party he himself was never really a member of before he decided to bigfoot it posing as a tea-party candidate, it is likely they`ll throw him under the bus as soon as the price to be paid for defending him and his cabinet in ethics committee hearings becomes more than their constituents can stomach. The Democrats might start winning elections when the Electoral College gets fixed and the Republicans' $30m screwing around with House redistricting is undone. Admittedly some more inspiring candidates than Hillary Clinton would help. But perhaps it's not liberals you should be thinking about. Trump's election victory is not something to really boast about, given that he got less votes than the loser.
Yes, he won by the rules, it's all in the past, there's no point in complaining about it any more, etc etc etc, but what are all those people who voted for Hillary Clinton do when the Mid-Terms come around in a couple of years? Perhaps all those conservatives who are feeling so pleased with themselves right at the moment should be keeping their fingers crossed that Trump and the GOP really do a fantastic job and the Democrats don't get their act together.

I mean, the man met with Al Gore, come on, that says a lot that he's serious.
More, like he insults people that insult him first and don't even try, we can go on the net and find thousands of articles where the left have unleashed a slew of daily attacks and instead of judging the man and his efforts on what he wants to do, the left are seriously suffering from Trump syndrome and that's all they will ever see and in that hate and not to mention being sore losers, the only recourse is to insult and attack him and then when he strikes back, the left come unhinged as if Trump should take it. That just will never happen with Trump and good on him, why should he let the media define him even before he's sworn in?
I thought the same about Obama, but with Obama, he actually believed in most of the garbage he was telling the people and the same goes for Hillary and that's why the left lost and good, they need a wake up call to bring their butts back to Earth and teach them a bit of humility.
