Yay, not roads, bridges, mass transit, or schools, what we need is to throw even more money at the military industrial complex. That's a core GOP-approved message there.

22 ( +22 / -0 )

Ahead of the forum, Trump rolled out a new plan to boost military spending by tens of billions of dollars, including major increases in the number of active troops, fighter planes, Navy ships and submarines.

Another Big Spending Republican after all. Or maybe he's just being sarcastic.

The Republican also said that, if elected, he would give military leaders 30 days to formulate a multipronged plan to defeat the Islamic State group.

But, but, but. He has a secrete plan to defeat ISIS. Remember? 'Cause he's "got a good brain."

Or maybe, he's just being sarcastic. Again, who knows?

14 ( +14 / -0 )

He'd be simply a bill-signing robot for Paul Ryan.

"But I'm good at war. I've had a lot of wars of my own. I'm really good at war. I love war, in a certain way." -- Donald Trump (11/12/2015)

12 ( +12 / -0 )

The BBC summarised it nicely:

Trump v the generals

That Mr Trump says he will ask US military leaders how to defeat IS appears to be a change of approach. Here is what he said previously:

"I know more about Isis (Islamic State) than the generals do. Believe me" - at a rally in November 2015

"I have a great plan. It's going to be great. They ask: 'What is it?' Well, I'd rather not say. I'd rather be unpredictable" - on his strategy for defeating IS in April this year

US generals "don't know much because they're not winning" - to CBS in June

And just now: "Immediately after taking office, I will ask my generals to present to me a plan within 30 days to defeat and destroy Isis"

But, maybe he was being sarcastic. But as long as he plans to keep throwing money at them, some of them will support him I suppose. GOP-style. So much for the "warmongering" comments from the Repubs. Seems your cult leader is happy to up it, and then some!

If elected, Trump said he would give military leaders 30 days to formulate a plan to defeat the group, commonly known as ISIS

"There's nobody bigger or better at the military than I am" (June 16, 2015) Donald J. Trump

I thought Trump already had this figured out. He rose to prominence by promising him and only him had the answer to defeating ISIS. What's this talk about having other people doing the job he already had the answer to?

Hillary’s a known-known (apologies for using a Rumsfeld term); she’s shown her hawk-side.

Trump’s a known-unknown. Who knows what the man who said his personal Vietnam War was avoiding STD’s while sleeping around, who insulted US POW’s (I don’t think they should be glorified, but definitely don’t think they should be ridiculed), a man who has ‘softened’ on every issue he’s mentioned, who’s flip-flopped and hip-hopped (The Dovells) all around, who was only being sarcastic, who has been misunderstood, has had his words taken out of context and who has flat out lied really believes when it comes to managing the world’s most frightening military.

However, I can’t imagine a man who’s long been said to be narcissistically impaired and has even been called psychopathic is the sort who’ll take a pacifistic approach when dealing with the likes of Putin and Xi or any other perceived enemy.

The world should be afraid that this thin-skinned megalomaniac could have access to the code for the big ones.

Release your tax info, Don. Which of the world’s power brokers do you owe money to?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

So much for the Republicans being the party of fiscal conservatism. Anytime they complain about taxes or welfare, it can now be pointed out that their candidate wants to spend their taxes on military welfare.

The amount of money required for the poor and even for Obamacare is not even a drop of water in the bucket of military spending, it's more like a few molecules.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

"Imperial overstretch, also known as Imperial overreach, is a hypothesis which suggests that an empire can extend itself beyond its ability to maintain or expand its military and economic commitments. The idea was popularised by Yale University historian Paul Kennedy in his 1987 book The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers."

Takes me back.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Another Big Spending Republican after all. Or maybe he's just being sarcastic.

Which is it, you guys care about the military and want a strong defense or you want a weak military like we have one now and a weak president that no one, especially our enemies don't respect or trust.

Trump’s a known-unknown. Who knows what the man who said his personal Vietnam War was avoiding STD’s while sleeping around,

I think Bill Clinton beats him in that department.

has had his words taken out of context and who has flat out lied really believes when it comes to managing the world’s most frightening military.

Are you talking about the US military?

However, I can’t imagine a man who’s long been said to be narcissistically impaired and has even been called psychopathic is the sort who’ll take a pacifistic approach when dealing with the likes of Putin and Xi or any other perceived enemy.

I think the COUNTRY has a lot more to fear if HRC gets into the White House, for one thing, I worry about her health, the woman's been coughing a lot recently....

Release your tax info, Don. Which of the world’s power brokers do you owe money to?

Trump needs to release his tax records, Hillary needs to release all of her transcript peddling speeches and both need to show their medical records in detail.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Friggin idiot. Isn't most of the pie already carved up for the military? If you decide to spend damn near all of the budget on war, where's the money for "the wall", "deportation" and "jobs" gonna come from? This guy is half baked.

Trump and Clinton are scrambling to appeal to the military industrial complex and to become the next in an growing list of war criminal presidents.

I worry about her health, the woman's been coughing a lot recently....

You're worried she might have more than six months to live?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

"Which is it, you guys care about the military and want a strong defense or you want a weak military like we have one now and a weak president that no one, especially our enemies don't respect or trust."

How the hell can the US military be described as weak? It's grotesquely huge and Trump wants to bloat this filthy thing even more. What do the rightists have in mind when they talk about a strong military?

Donald talking dirty like GOP candidates do. There's nothing like talk about the military to get the rightists all giddy and squirm in their seats.

His slogan for this is the Orwellian Peace Through Strength

I'm watching Matt Lauer interview Trump on MSNBC's first CoC Furum

There are two men on that stage dangerously unqualified for the job they imagine themselves having.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

@Bass I think Bill Clinton beats him in that department.

When deflecting, try to avoid apples and sharp pointy objects comparisons.

world’s most frightening military.

@Bass Are you talking about the US military?

I most definitely am. And it would be even more frightening with Trump as commander in chief. Like I said, he's a thin skinned megalomaniac who'll no doubt surround himself with Gen. Jack D Ripper's. (Dr Strangelove)

I worry about her health

That's less worrying to me. IF she does have health problems her VP is a man I have great faith in. I worry about Trump's health; he's over 70 and long been overweight. Even more worrying is Pence as VP. He's a man with pure kook beliefs.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

It was cool when Lauer asked Trump about his attacks on the Khan family.

Ohhhhhhh......

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Paid for how?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

"Trump and Clinton are scrambling to appeal to the military industrial complex and to become the next in an growing list of war criminal presidents."

This warmongering filth never changes. You could stick a chimp up there ( the GOP have something close to one this time around ) and he'd be pointing to a of a bomber on a screen. The audience would still be whooping.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

This is the fourth decade that the media has been in love with this dumbass. Look at a NYTimes profile from 1976: 'He is tall, lean and blond, and he looks ever so much like Robert Redford. He rides around town in a chauffeured Cadillac, with his initials, DJT, on the plates. He dates slinky fashion models, belongs to the most elegant clubs' and blah blah blah.

It's a plush socialite warmonger, yuck!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Maybe Trump can bill his campaign for it. Or have the Trump foundation cut a check. (That incident with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi doesn't seem to be going away, does it? Goes like this: Bondi: "I may investigate Trump University." Trump and Ivana: "Here are two $500 donations!" Bondi: "I may investigate Trump University." Trump: "Here's $25,000 from my foundation!" Bondi: "I will not investigate Trump University." IRS: "Non-profits cannot support political activities. We will fine you." Pay-to-play, anyone? Those accusing Clinton of favoring her foundation donors while SoS could find no quid to match the quo; here is a very clear quid pro quo.)

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Didn't he say that US would stop being the world policeman, that US would leave Japan and East Asia, that US would leave Middle East, and that US would stay in its border surrounded by a wall?

Now, he says US would pay more for its military.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

the woman's been coughing a lot recently....

Are you suggesting that she might have a 'chronological' health issue?

Trump said he would give military leaders 30 days to formulate a plan to defeat the group, commonly known as ISIS.

And if they don't, they're FIRED! Just like on TV. See, being president isn't that hard.

“We want to deter, avoid and prevent conflict through our unquestioned military strength,”

Holy Astringent Plum-like Fruit, Batman! That's never been tried before. This Trump feller's got the right stuff, that's for sure. I could use a man like him in the White House.

Which is it, you guys care about the military and want a strong defense or you want a weak military like we have one now and a weak president

I want a huuuuuuuuuge military run by people with the best brains and topped off by a Commander in Chief who's so tough he makes fun of disabled people and former POWs. And has no chronological health problems.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Germany, Japan and Saudi Arabia

So those guys will be paying for the increased military spending. And then Mexico is going to be paying for the wall. Maybe we can come up with a new tax on Chinese people in Vegas to pay for water maintenance, too.

I think we should be spending a lot more time looking at the people that are around Trump since they are most likely driving his policy decisions. We need to learn more about the people behind the figurehead. That's who Trump supporters will really be voting for.

That's if he makes it to the election. Based on some recent pictures, some people have claimed he might be hiding a tumor. If that's the case, then obviously we need to know about it.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Which is it, you guys care about the military and want a strong defense or you want a weak military like we have one now

Wow, this just shows you really have no clue. American military spending is more than the next eight nations combined.

and a weak president that no one, especially our enemies don't respect or trust.

He's popular enough to win a 3rd presidency in your country, and he's well respected world-wide: http://www.pewglobal.org/2016/06/29/as-obama-years-draw-to-close-president-and-u-s-seen-favorably-in-europe-and-asia/

But of course the truth doesn't allow you to spin your smear campaign, does it.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Trump backers be smoking a lot of dank chronological if they find him and Pence admirable. Whatta bunch of bluffers.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Here's the transcript and video link to his interview. It is one of the funniest things (in a SAD way) I've ever seen. One of my favorite lines comes from Trump's pet Pence, kissing up to Trump after he'd burnished his recent Mexico visit (this was one of the very few times Pence ventured an opinion during the interview):

TRUMP: .... Whether I did phenomenally or not they would have said that. That was a tremendous success for me. You know that virtually everybody including my biggest critics have said that when I went down to Mexico it was a tremendous success. Mike called me and said, ‘I’ve never seen anybody look so presidential.’ Many people have said that.

PENCE: It’s true.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Higher defense spending? Well given Trump's penchant for saying dumb things, I have to wonder.... will a few extra bombers and carriers be enough?

But seriously folks. Trump is trying to walk back his racism problems by going to black churches on Sunday. He is trying to walk back his BUILD A WALL rhetoric by meeting the Mexican President. And now he wants us all to forget his lack of admiration for McCain's service. He is working so hard to get back to zero that this pandering to the military industrial complex was only a matter of time.

It is transparent as heck. He was not serious before. He is serious NOW. Let's all just remember that, m'kay? Do people really fall for that?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yeah, because THAT'S what the US needs! I guess when you take away the money that would give every single person in a nation a free education for one year's military budget, you DO end up with a nation full of morons.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

“We want to deter, avoid and prevent conflict through our unquestioned military strength,”

Deter, avoid and prevent conflict! Warmongering if I ever heard it.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Kuya, you do not understand how things work. Per Trump:

We spend 3 trillion dollars, we lose thousands and thousands of lives, and then, Matt, what happens is we get nothing. It used to be to the victor belong the spoils. Now, there was no victor there, believe me. There was no victor. But I always said take the oil. ... You would leave a certain group behind, and you would take various sections where they have the oil.

See, the Iraq would have paid for itself if we'd only taken the oil! And that would have justified the thousands and thousands of lives! It is so simple! Why do people not understand this?!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Funny how the timing of the endorsement by 88 retired generals and admirals and the suggested increase in military spending by Trump seem to almost come at the same time. One would almost think... but surely not right? I mean Trump is owned by no-one, he said it himself, so it must be true...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

You're worried she might have more than six months to live?

No, I'm not heartless, but if she's capable of physically doing her job, now that I'm worried about.

@PT

Oh, hate the Trump and Clinton draft dodging comparison? Lol

I most definitely am. And it would be even more frightening with Trump as commander in chief. Like I said, he's a thin skinned megalomaniac.

As I said before, I'm more worried about Hillary and her dubious behind the back ally sales of influence ethics.

That's less worrying to me. IF she does have health problems her VP is a man I have great faith in. I worry about Trump's health; he's over 70 and long been overweight.

Kaine? Good lord....

But on a serious note, it's bit funny, can you show me any video where Trump is out of breath? Not being active in sports? Does Hillary do sports at all? Does Trump have a constant problem trying to stand, does he need assistance in walking or handling himself?

Even more worrying is Pence as VP. He's a man with pure kook beliefs.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

The absolute last thing that needs a spending boost.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

guess he wants to prepare for world war III, eliminate him in Nov please.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

You would leave a certain group behind, and you would take various sections where they have the oil.

Forget the babbling assemblage of non-sequiturs that typify his speech when his handlers don't have him tied to the teleprompter. Is this man really so addled that he actually believes it would have been possible to 'leave a certain group behind, and you would take various sections where they have the oil.'

Even the Bushes and their fellow oil barons knew that would have been impossible. Presidential material?

Show your tax returns, Don. Which oil companies and military corporations have you invested in?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

They know they can count on me to be the kind of commander in chief who will protect our country and our troops.

Hillary Clinton.

Yes. Just like Benghazi.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

The Trumpets, with the exception of Bass, are notoriously silent/absent from this thread.

I guess even they have a hard time defending a military spending increase after harping on for months about how Hillary is a warmonger, and about how there should be no increase in taxes.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

This is interesting - In an NBC poll of active duty and veterans, Trump leads Hillary 55% to 36%.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

But on a serious note, it's bit funny, can you show me any video where Trump is out of breath? Not being active in sports?

OK, if we're going to get silly, yes, I can show you plenty of videos of Trump not being active in sports. Unless you consider bloviating in public to be a sport.

And yes, I can also show you a video of Trump appearing to be out of breath. Now, I'm not a doctor or a hard-hitting investigative journalist, but people are saying that Trump may be on his last legs, that he may in fact have a chronological health problem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SNAarasaxM

On top of that, I simply cannot vote for a man who eats KFC with a knife and fork. It will alienate our friends, and our enemies will no longer fear us.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The ironic thing is that Bass says says this as a criticism of Obama (ignoring that it's a falsehood):

and a weak president that no one, especially our enemies don't respect or trust.

While promoting a candidate that no one, especially America's friends, respect or trust.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Crazy joe:

" not roads, bridges, mass transit, or schools, "

You mean the "shovel ready jobs" that Obama touted already 8 years ago? Where are they? Haven´t they had 8 years to produce them? I almost fell off my chair when hear Clinton announce that she will assembly "the best and biggest governmentz committee ever" to created jobs. Yeah right, that will do it.... groan.

As for the military, Trump says he wants to reverse Obamas military cuts. AND end stupid nation building. While Clinton threatens war with Russia. I`d know which I prefer.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Will ignores the fact that the unemployment rate is better than even what the challenger promised in the last election.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I figured this would happen. Two major parameters have changed since Trump emasculated his GOP rivals in the primaries: his audience, which to that point had been satisfied with red-meat grunts of the "two legs bad, four legs good!" type; and the media, which focused more on the entertainment rather than the issues. The general election, which basically started yesterday, puts Trump in an entirely new environment, and he so far has acted entirely as expected: Cluelessly.

Kevin Drum has a good summary of Trump's performance today. It begins:

The phrase "not even wrong" is a cliche by now. It was Wolfgang's Pauli's reaction to a physics paper he had been given to read, and it basically means that something is so far off point that it's entirely meaningless. It's like asking about 2+2 and answering "blue."

Read here for some entertaining specific examples. http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2016/09/donald-trump-just-demonstrated-he-knows-precisely-nothing-about-national-security

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, repeatedly refused to say directly whether he had confidence in Trump as commander in chief

You have to sort of feel sorry for people like Bob Corker. On the other hand, maybe not. They allowed their party to be overrun by zealots who don't take government seriously. Ted Cruz. Steve King. Michelle Bachmann. Tim Huelskamp. etc

And now they've ended up with a know-nothing blowhard.

“I do believe that Donald Trump is growing in his understanding of these issues and I think that he’s beginning to get more and more people around him that have a depth of understanding as to the complexities and I’m watching this evolve,” he said.

Sounds like he's talking about a 10-year-old.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

OK, if we're going to get silly, yes, I can show you plenty of videos of Trump not being active in sports. Unless you consider bloviating in public to be a sport.

I'm sorry, let me clarify myself, how many times have you seen Hillary partake in anything that involved doing something physical? I mean, anything? if you have, please show it, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

And yes, I can also show you a video of Trump appearing to be out of breath. Now, I'm not a doctor or a hard-hitting investigative journalist, but people are saying that Trump may be on his last legs, that he may in fact have a chronological health problem.

Ok, that's one video and Hillary has about 7 more questionable ones from the gazing eye stares, falling down, trouble getting up, recall memory problems, hitting her head, blood clot problems, a bit more than troubling.

On top of that, I simply cannot vote for a man who eats KFC with a knife and fork. It will alienate our friends, and our enemies will no longer fear us.

As long as he can tell our enemies where to stick it and doesn't take crap from these nutty leaders like Obama did, he can eat all the KFC, Churches, Chick-fil-A, El Pollo Loco, Golden Bird all he wants.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Right, so take the largest military in the world, and make it larger!? Might as well declare USA a police state and everyone is automatically enlisted. That's the only way anyone is going to be paid or have services. Fatigues are pretty fashionable. And then they'll be comparisons to the 1930's for some reason.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Anyway who thinks the US military is weak is losing the plot. The US still spends as much as the next 8 countries' defense budgets combined (i.e. more than China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, UK, Germany, Japan and India combined!). I'd say the US still has quite the advantage militarily speaking! Just the Trumpet and the GOP trying to make Americans feel scared.....

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Whatever Trump does, there is no way he can drop the ball worse than "drone strike" Obama, "Libya Bomber" Clinton or any of the previous POTUS. Anybody can clearly see Clintons friends, represent her. Example; the previous Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, a hardcore Clinton supporter WHO SAID THE DEATH OF 500,000 IRAQI CHILDREN WERE WORTH IT! That is more than Hiroshima!

Trump said he was against the middle east wars! I`m with him!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Trump said he was against the middle east wars! I`m with him!

Um, you realize he has said one of the first things he's going to do is have the Pentagon generals draw up a plan within 30 days to go to war in Syria and Iraq, right?

How exactly does that mean 'against middle east wars' to you?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

America, thee most power military in the planet, and somehow nike wearing, toyota truck driving ISIS is still surviving. How is that even possible?

What do you recommend? Do nothing? Continue lame duck Obamas plans that clearly arent working? Make a Clinton "No Fly Zone" and risk open war with Russia?

Clearly this will require cooperation with Russia, which Clinton obviously won`t do.

Do you think he's going to tell Vladimir Putin where to stick it, given that he thinks Putin has called him brilliant?

I sure do. Remember, he and Hillary were friends once and look what happened, he can tell her off, so there is zero doubt in my mind Trump could tell Putin anything.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

If it weren't clear enough already that Trump neither knows what he is blabbering about nor cares, last night sealed the deal: Trump came off as the kind of "leader" who will blame his troops for failing him after he, stupidly, stubbornly, and with much ignored cautioning by others, sends them on a fool's errand.

Few who care about US military preparedness and ability will enthusiastically vote for this fraud.

The good news for Republicans is not many people watched last night's side-show.

The bad news for Republicans is their nominee will give the same sad performance during the debates.

"Meaning, she may be capable, that is, if she can become president, if her health allows it."

Joining the ranks of the "Healthers" now?

I wouldn't assume anything from that comment. It's a bit like the kind of thing you get when you run Japanese through an online translator. Although I would guess that he wouldn't mind at all if Hillary Clinton did have chronic health problems that ruled her out from becoming president.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I wouldn't assume anything from that comment. It's a bit like the kind of thing you get when you run Japanese through an online translator.

I totally agree. That would depend if you are looking for the actual meaning of the Kanji or the literal translation where you kind of get the meaning concept and as long as you get the main idea, you can move forward.

Although I would guess that he wouldn't mind at all if Hillary Clinton did have chronic health problems that ruled her out from becoming president.

Not only him...

Yes... well, that's kind of where the problem lies here.

So can I say, Non-Whites love it when Hillary attacks them?

Of course you can say it - it's gibberish so expect some blank looks, but don't hold back,

Or is the left going to somehow try to invoke race into that statement?

They'd have to figure out what you were going on about before they could... "invoke" (?!) anything.

"Although I would guess that he wouldn't mind at all if Hillary Clinton did have chronic health problems that ruled her out from becoming president."

Not only him...

Using the third person there, I see. Did you actually think I was referring to Donald Trump?

Of course you can say it - it's gibberish so expect some blank looks, but don't hold back

It's gibberish because liberals say so?! Huh, interesting. Lol

They'd have to figure out what you were going on about before they could... "invoke" (?!) anything

This admin. has been using race as a divisive tool for 8 years now, pretty much how the liberals can try and make inroads.

Using the third person there, I see. Did you actually think I was referring to Donald Trump?

I don't think you were referring to Bill Clinton.
