Trump ramps up ad spending in bid to counter Biden

By BRIAN SLODYSKO

President Donald Trump's reelection campaign says it is ramping up advertising spending in battleground states, a move that comes as some of his allies have grown worried because Democrat Joe Biden has outspent him in recent weeks.

The Trump campaign announced the “eight-figure” ad buy Tuesday, but declined to say specifically how much will be spent in states that include North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona and Pennsylvania. The campaign also said it intends to run ads targeting congressional districts in Maine and Nebraska — two states that do not use a winner-take-all approach toward awarding electors.

Trump has an outsized ability to command national media attention and has often shown himself adept at shaping the terms of political debate to his liking. But after struggling to significantly erode Biden's standing in public opinion polls, advertising remains one of the best tools available to help alter the trajectory of an election that is quickly approaching.

That sets up a high-stakes dilemma for Trump campaign officials who are making key spending decisions at a time when Democrats have shattered fundraising records and overtaken what was once a formidable cash advantage enjoyed by Republicans.

“This week’s advertising continues our strategic plan to follow the dates on the calendar, the states that are voting early, the data that always guides our decision-making and our pathway,” Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a statement.

Still, even as the campaign announced the renewed commitment, it continued to be outspent by Biden. It has also reserved significant amounts of air time in states that Trump won handily in 2016, including $15 million set aside for Ohio, according to data from the ad tracking firm Kantar/CMAG.

The campaign has also abruptly cancelled some of its airtime at the last minute, including a series of ads that were supposed to run last week in Arizona, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. The Trump campaign said the moves were part of a broader shift in advertising spending.

Meanwhile, in Trump's adopted home state of Florida, billionaire former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced last weekend that he would spend at least $100 million of his own money to defeat Trump there. That's likely to put Trump at a disadvantage unless he ups the $32.6 million in ad time he's reserved in the state.

The advertisements Trump is running against Biden use the voices of everyday people to attack the former vice president and try to turn his longevity as a Washington deal maker into a liability.

"Joe Biden could never handle the economy after COVID. There's no way. It would be a disaster," says a woman who is identified as a small business owner in one battleground state ad. “Joe Biden has done absolutely nothing for America in 47 years.”

Another portrays Biden as soft on China and supportive of “bad trade deals” that have helped offshore good paying jobs.

The ads “focus on the economy, which will be the defining issue of the race, and contrasts President Trump’s strong economic record with Joe Biden’s 47 years of failure,” the Trump campaign said in a statement. “The ads airing on local television beginning Tuesday feature real people whose lives have been positively impacted by President Trump’s policies."

Expect the global elite, especially those from big oil states, e.g. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Russia and elsewhere to use dark money channels to add to Trump's campaign war-chests.

Expect to see even more wack conspiracy theories coming from Qanon, Alex Jones, Hannity, RT, Breitbart, One America News and others from Trump's media, more wack stories about lizards and pizza parlors.

Expectc the following facts:

The economy improved greatly under Trump.

The lives of the working class and poor were greatly improved.

Increased border security.

International peace deals.

Commitment to stay out of war.

Support for law enforcement.

Joe Biden is unfortunately cognitively unfit for office.

Didn't anyone pay attention to Bloomberg? He was an actual billionaire and he out spent everyone just to go home.

In other words, liberals are worried about dissent and a repudiation of Marxist orthodoxy in the guise of freedom and social justice, good luck with that.

Trump should get a lot of gusto for his buck. Biden has provided plenty of fodder free of charge.

There's interesting news being reported by The Washington Post and others about a pro-Trump group paying teens to post online.

Far from representing a genuine social media groundswell, however, the posts are the product of a sprawling yet secretive campaign that experts say evades the guardrails put in place by social media companies to limit online disinformation of the sort used by Russia during the 2016 campaign.

Teenagers, some of them minors, are being paid to pump out the messages at the direction of Turning Point Action, an affiliate of Turning Point USA, a prominent conservative youth organization based in Phoenix, according to four people with independent knowledge of the effort.

> They also were instructed to edit the beginning and ending of each snippet from an online master document to differentiate the posts slightly

just keep showing videos of Biding gaffes every time he pops up out of the basement.

Today:

During his remarks on Tuesday, Biden also raised eyebrows when he mistakenly confused Iran and Iraq when referring to fallen American soldiers. "U.S. troops died in Iran and Afghanistan," Biden said.

He also repeated the Harris gaffe from yesterday about a "Harris-Biden administration". They arent supposed to say that part out loud.

The economy is in its biggest recession since the Great Depression under Trump.

The lives of the working class and poor were greatly improved.

The working class is facing the highest unemployment rate since the Great Depression under Trump.

Increased border security.

True. Of course the rest of the world has vastly increased its border security to keep Americans out too. Under Trump.

International peace deals.

What international peace deals? His thing with Kim that went nowhere?

Commitment to stay out of war.

Not really fulfilled though, the US is still embroiled in as many wars as it was when he took over. I'll give him some credit for not starting new ones though.

Support for law enforcement.

True on that.

Joe Biden is unfortunately cognitively unfit for office.

Biden seems more cognitively fit for office than Trump. Trump just speaks in rambling non sequitors most of the time when asked about policy and when he actually says something comprehensible its usually to float an idiotic idea like injecting people with disinfectant to cure Coronavirus. Its basically senile old man whose out of his depth talk. Biden has a speech impediment that causes him to stutter here and there, but he actually conveys ideas competently and demonstrates a knowledge of what he is talking about.

True.

And that’s the only thing that’s important for our borders. We need to do what’s in the best interest of America and not worry so much about the world.

What international peace deals? His thing with Kim that went nowhere?

but in the middle east he is a rockstar and even some of his worst critics have to give them credit and it’s a tough pill even for them to swallow.

Not really fulfilled though,

True, But if the war machine industry that both Republicans and Democrats support would back down, a big majority of troops in many of these countries would be back home now, so it’s not Trump that’s keeping them there, the Pentagon for some strange reason hopes that we will engage in war war so keep the troops there.

Yes, we do. Because confusing Iran and Iraq in public speaking is a problem. as is not being able to even read from a teleprompter. or speak in sentences where anyone can decipher what the topic even is, much less your position.

As is criticizing Trump for not implementing a nationwide mask mandate at the federal level and saying you will. Saying it for weeks, then finding out.....its against the Constitution. then quietly claiming you never said it at all. Problematic.

Yup, China unleashing this on the world is China's fault. Trump giving America the worst response to this in the developed world by far though is Trump's fault.

Plenty of blame to go around.

And that’s the only thing that’s important for our borders. We need to do what’s in the best interest of America and not worry so much about the world.

I would disagree a bit on that. I don't doubt that Trump has prioritized securing the borders more than any other President in modern history, but its not clear that the specific policies he's implemented actually accrue to the benefit of the US. Keeping immigrants out, which is basically what his policies are focused on, also means keeping a lot of people who benefit the US out. There is a cost to that.

but in the middle east he is a rockstar and even some of his worst critics have to give them credit and it’s a tough pill even for them to swallow.

Being a rockstar in the middle east doesn't really mean much (and I'm pretty sure that his highly dependent on where in the middle east you are, in most places there burning the images of US Presidents in effigy is a longstanding tradition that I don't think he's changed). He hasn't ended any wars there and I'm not really sure what foreign policy accomplishments he has to brag about. I'll give him credit for not making the bad situation he inherited there worse, but at the same time he hasn't really done anything noteworthy there either.

True, But if the war machine industry that both Republicans and Democrats support would back down, a big majority of troops in many of these countries would be back home now, so it’s not Trump that’s keeping them there, the Pentagon for some strange reason hopes that we will engage in war war so keep the troops there.

Yeah, I don't blame Trump for not bringing the troops home since what you said is correct. But at the same time given that reality he can't claim to have ended any wars either. He's basically just maintained the status quo.

Har! The global elite sooo want Harris-Biden to win. They hate Trump. Especially the war mongers.

Trump giving America the worst response to this in the developed world by far though is Trump's fault.

Nah, Trump actually gets an A+ for his virus from China response. Even Cuomo was praising him a few months back.

I never said that.

You called them expendable...it's on the record...

Meanwhile Trump signs two historic peace deals then goes to Philly to get 2 cheesesteaks.

And those will really help "Mr Clinically Obese"...

And we also learn;

*Trump in an April 10 tweet: “The Invisible Enemy is in full retreat!” *

*Trump three days later: “ this thing is a killer if it gets you. If you’re the wrong person, you don’t have a chance.” “So this rips you apart,” Trump added. “It is the plague.”*

*Trump four days later: “LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” Trump began, with two further tweets saying “LIBERATE MICHIGAN” and “LIBERATE VIRGINIA"*

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Yup, China unleashing this on the world is China's fault.

And yet even with the declining numbers and the lower death rate, liberals refuse to acknowledge that this president worked as quickly as he could to close the country down and Biden was the one that said in doing so it was racist and xenophobic and Dr. Fauci agreed with Trump. Why is it that the liberals are silent when it comes to so many elderly people dying in nursing homes that Cuomo support it and wanted them in?

Plenty of blame to go around.

But yes, plenty of blame to go around. Imagine if Trump had not close the country down.....

I would disagree a bit on that. I don't doubt that Trump has prioritized securing the borders more than any other President in modern history, but its not clear that the specific policies he's implemented actually accrue to the benefit of the US.

if you say it like that, then there’s no proof that it harmed the country.

Keeping immigrants out, which is basically what his policies are focused on, also means keeping a lot of people who benefit the US out. There is a cost to that.

Oh, stop it! There are many other countries were immigrants could come in, not all of them were entirely blocked and in a pandemic such as this one and especially with poor nations that have an adequate health systems, I would be upset if you wouldn’t have close the country down to these nations.

Being a rockstar in the middle east doesn't really mean much (and I'm pretty sure that his highly dependent on where in the middle east you are, in most places there burning the images of US Presidents in effigy is a longstanding tradition that I don't think he's changed).

You’re right, but overall, and for the leaders of these nations that we are having now a seed to plant the peace can now grow is a very good thing, despite with all the Trump haters were saying before that there would be chaos and death and destruction and that hasn’t happened, so good on this president and Kushner for all their efforts in making this happen.

He hasn't ended any wars there

But he’s trying to get the troops back and this is what the president campaigned on, but as long as the establishment has any say, They will always support war end of support the military industry to push it into keep our troops there

and I'm not really sure what foreign policy accomplishments he has to brag about.

what he’s done between Israel in the Middle East is a very big accomplishment, that’s undeniable and irrefutable.

I'll give him credit for not making the bad situation he inherited there worse, but at the same time he hasn't really done anything noteworthy there either.

with all due respect, this is very huge and it’s a very big deal and it’s a very big accomplishment, this is why he was nominated for a Nobel peace prize.

Yeah, I don't blame Trump for not bringing the troops home since what you said is correct. But at the same time given that reality he can't claim to have ended any wars either. He's basically just maintained the status quo.

Well, yes and no and so far they have not been any new wars, and that’s a good thing, Trump is never like wars, he has always been anti-war guy, I think that’s a good position to have and I do applaud The efforts of him at least trying his best, but the Pentagon, I’m not surprised at their resistance to this and that goes for many Republicans and many Democrats as well.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

not a big deal. How about confusing Iran and Iraq? or confusing your wife and your sister?

or confusing that YOU are the Presidential candidate not your your VP? "Harris-Biden administration".

Why is it that the liberals are silent when it comes to so many elderly people dying in nursing homes that Cuomo support it and wanted them in?

Yes, he closed down the borders. The problem is that he didn't follow up on that. Other countries closed down their borders too, but then they also developed aggressive nationwide public health plans to deal with it, hence their ability to get it under control. The US never did that. Europe did. Canada did. Australia did. New Zealand did. America didn't, which is why its still the only one still suffering 1,000 deaths a day. And yes, the infection rate is going down now, but again it is doing so months later than all other developed countries. I can't give Trump a pass on that, he is the President and he should have been on top of this like every other leader has been.

But yes, plenty of blame to go around. Imagine if Trump had not close the country down.....

Imagine if Trump hadn't put his feet on his desk and declared victory in February after closing the borders and instead actually put together a public health strategy for controlling the pandemic. Like every other developed country did. I seriously doubt the death total would be about to pass 200,000 today if that had been the case.

Oh, stop it! There are many other countries were immigrants could come in, not all of them were entirely blocked and in a pandemic such as this one and especially with poor nations that have an adequate health systems, I would be upset if you wouldn’t have close the country down to these nations.

I'm not talking about the harm to immigrants, I'm talking about the opportunity cost to the United States: immigrants work and are a net benefit to the US economy. Lose them and you lose that benefit.

I can see this in my own work. His hamfisted attempts to kick international students out of the US has been a boon to universities in other countries who benefit from the "brain drain" that has caused.

what he’s done between Israel in the Middle East is a very big accomplishment, that’s undeniable and irrefutable.

Well, you have one small Gulf Arab state that has normalized relations with Israel. That is it. It is undeniable as a fact, but its not a very big accomplishment in and of itself.

with all due respect, this is very huge and it’s a very big deal and it’s a very big accomplishment, this is why he was nominated for a Nobel peace prize.

I realize that the bar for the Nobel Peace Prize was set incredibly low by Obama who got it for....doing nothing at all. But seriously? The standard now is "He refrained from gratuitously starting a war"? That is not a big accomplishment.

Yes, he closed down the borders. The problem is that he didn't follow up on that.

Thank the Democrats for trying to throw banana peels at every step of the way in him trying to do that, I don’t see any Democrats anywhere trying to do their best to secure the border, not one of them.

Imagine if Trump hadn't put his feet on his desk and declared victory in February after closing the borders and instead actually put together a public health strategy for controlling the pandemic.

as well as these Democrat leaders that said there’s nothing to worry about when it comes to this virus, even Pelosi was suggesting that people should come to Chinatown and then recently she was caught getting her hair done and she wasn’t wearing a mask and then she had the audacity to say that she was set up and now the woman have to close of business because of death threats, but Pelosi can break the rules and the rest of us have to follow them. The absolute height of hypocrisy!

Like every other developed country did. I seriously doubt the death total would be about to pass 200,000 today if that had been the case.

It’s interesting how the Democrats want to label that every person that died because of the virus, never mind people dying of underlying conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure or cancer etc. Basically whenever someone dies, it is because of the coronavirus and yet the Democrats never focus as well as the media on the declining death rate and the hospitalizations of young people are down, wonder why?.....

I'm not talking about the harm to immigrants, I'm talking about the opportunity cost to the United States: immigrants work and are a net benefit to the US economy. Lose them and you lose that benefit.

So then this democratic mayors and governors should open up the country, if Pelosi can get her hair and nails done and not wear a mask and you have protesters riding in close proximity and not social distancing, then I think it is OK for people to go back to work into school if you implement proper safety protocols, it should be a problem and yet these liberals will say no, that’s on them, Trump wants the country open.

I can see this in my own work. His hamfisted attempts to kick international students out of the US has been a boon to universities in other countries who benefit from the "brain drain" that has caused.

I am very happy that he has finally done that and it should’ve never been like that, foreigners should never have an advantage or come first or Americans, the H1b Visa was the absolute worst thing and extremely harmful to young Americans starting in the workforce.

Well, you have one small Gulf Arab state that has normalized relations with Israel. That is it. It is undeniable as a fact, but its not a very big accomplishment in and of itself.

Actually, it is for the region and geopolitically, you may not think so, but the players involved and internationally, this thing is huge..

I realize that the bar for the Nobel Peace Prize was set incredibly low by Obama who got it for....doing nothing at all. But seriously? The standard now is "He refrained from gratuitously starting a war"? That is not a big accomplishment.

No, it was for the achievement and the efforts of what he has done in the Middle East.

I give him credit for that too, but its not enough to sway me into favoring him.

And you don’t have to, no one is forcing you to vote for this president, that’s the great thing about democracy, if you want to vote for more socialism, that’s your right, as it is my right to vote for the rule of law and order and for capitalism and democracy, we can choose and vote for whomever we wish to.

How does cutting health insurance for poor children, something Trump wanted to do, and which you supported, protect them?

Very easy, the Democrats want to protect the children, so they say but then when it comes to Planned Parenthood or when it comes to lowering premiums for parents to pay or when it comes to school choices, you hear complete silence from the Democrats, “complete silence!”

Claiming that mayors and governors should lead more than the president. Makes sense given how incompetent the president is.

I don't care whether its a Democrat or Republican. What boggles my mind is that regardless of how bad the economy gets, they keep finding more money to spend on the election process yet can't find money to spend on the people that need help.

Very easy, the Democrats want to protect the children, so they say but then when it comes to Planned Parenthood or when it comes to lowering premiums for parents to pay or when it comes to school choices, you hear complete silence from the Democrats, “complete silence!”

This is entirely inaccurate. Entirely.

Aways making excuses for Trump’s incompetence. Every single day.

And liberals make excuses for the Democrats lack of engagement on anything every single day.

So, Trump is as incompetent as the dems. Got it.

The Democrats are worse especially underestimating the Latino crowd in a very big and bad way.

Claiming that mayors and governors should lead more than the president.

then why do we have them? They don’t want the president to get involved in their state and their politics, but they sure want the president when it comes to federal aid and they should have power when it comes to closing down the government and blocking the president from coming, so it was their decision to create the lock down and keep it in place, not the presidents, so that’s on them, the president wanted the country to reopen and they don’t, but we know why....

You're conflating international students with H1B employees, which Trump hires over locals.

nope, these employers should always look at Americans first and not at the foreigners to come on these visas that are replacing them.

We're not discussing PP. We're discussing the Children's Health Insurance Program, which provides low-cost healthcare for children. Trump wanted to cut it, and give the money to the military. You agreed.

Sorry you can’t have it both ways, if liberals care so much about children then either they care about them or they don’t and that includes PP, so liberals can’t be choosy on the issue and if they really cared they would address the issue, but they don’t and never will.

How does cutting funding for sick children help sick children?

but if the Democrats get so much then why is it that they don’t support lowering premium so that parents can pay for the sick children, if they cared so much why is it that they don’t sit there and say anything about the Netflix film “the Cuties” and try to shut it down?

Thank the Democrats for trying to throw banana peels at every step of the way in him trying to do that, I don’t see any Democrats anywhere trying to do their best to secure the border, not one of them.

Nobody threw banana peels in his way on this. He could have put together a public health strategy for Coronavirus. He didn't need congressional approval for it, it could have been done through executive action alone. I'm sorry but that failure is completely on him.

It’s interesting how the Democrats want to label that every person that died because of the virus, never mind people dying of underlying conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure or cancer etc.

The Democratic party is not the one counting the dead, it is being compiled by the CDC and John Hopkins' University Medical School. Just because the high death toll is embarrassing for the Republican party does not make it a Democrat conspiracy: people are actually dying of this.

So then this democratic mayors and governors should open up the country,

So are you saying immigration policy should be set at the state and municipal level rather than the Federal level?

I am very happy that he has finally done that and it should’ve never been like that, foreigners should never have an advantage or come first or Americans, the H1b Visa was the absolute worst thing and extremely harmful to young Americans starting in the workforce.

I was actually talking about international students, not H1b visa recipients. International students at American universities actually subsidize the education of American students (by paying much higher fees). I don't know enough about the H1b visa to comment on it, I might agree with you on that.

Actually, it is for the region and geopolitically, you may not think so, but the players involved and internationally, this thing is huge..

I'm not saying this is nothing, but his predecessors were able to establish normalized relations with much more important states bordering and actually engaged in fighting with Israel (Egypt and Jordan). Getting the UAE to do the same is not nothing, but its not in the same league.

And you don’t have to, no one is forcing you to vote for this president, that’s the great thing about democracy, if you want to vote for more socialism, that’s your right, as it is my right to vote for the rule of law and order and for capitalism and democracy, we can choose and vote for whomever we wish to.

Not really sure where that comes from. For the record I think we can just operate under the assumption that we are freely exchanging our personal opinions in these comments here and the threat of being forced to support someone or something you don't want to isn't an issue.

Trump to Woodward in Feb and Mar: * This thing is a killer if it gets you. If you’re the wrong person, you don’t have a chance. So this rips you apart, Trump added. It is the plague. More deadly than your, you know, your — even your strenuous flus. This is more deadly, he said. This is five per — you know, this is 5 percent versus 1 percent and less than 1 percent, you know. So, this is deadly stuff. *It goes through the air, That's always tougher than the touch. You don't have to touch things. Right? But the air, you just breathe the air and that's how it's passed. And so that's a very tricky one. That's a very delicate one.

Trump then holds indoor rallies with no distancing or masks on Feb 10, 19, 20, 21, 28 and Mar 2.

After a break, he then holds another 15 rallies between Jun 20th and Sep 19th...no distancing, no masks...

Trump supporters, care to explain that...

And one more....

Trump to Woodward on Mar 19: Now it’s turning out it’s not just old people, Bob. Just today and yesterday, some startling facts came out. It’s not just old- older. Young people too, plenty of young people.

Trump in a speech on May 13: But I think you should absolutely open the schoolsIt’s had very little impact on young people.  It’s the governors’ choice. But their state is not open if the schools aren’t open. So, again, it’s had very little impact on young people, and I think they should open their schools.

Family planning has nothing to do with childcare.

I’m not interested in Netflix films. I want you to answer my initial question:

How does cutting funding for sick children and giving that money to the military help sick children?

Nobody threw banana peels in his way on this.

Oh yes, they did. Why in the world should the president take it seriously, when China said it wasn’t that serious and the rest of the world said it wasn’t that serious in the beginning, all the leader said it wasn’t serious..

The Democratic party is not the one counting the dead,

The Democrats and the media sympathetic proxies in the media are definitely pushing it as hard as they can.

So are you saying immigration policy should be set at the state and municipal level rather than the Federal level?

Both.

I was actually talking about international students, not H1b visa recipients.

If the international students come over here and you’re not studying, then why should they be here?

International students at American universities actually subsidize the education of American students (by paying much higher fees). I don't know enough about the H1b visa to comment on it, I might agree with you on that.

Under the policy memo announced Monday, international students enrolled at institutions that offer classes entirely online in the fall will be given the option of switching to a school that offers a hybrid of online and in-person classes or leaving the country and taking online classes from their home countries, said Carissa Cutrell, acting ICE deputy press secretary. Those who decide to return to their countries while enrolled in all online classes in the U.S. will maintain their non-immigrant visa status, Cutrell said. "So you can engage in remote learning as any other student would at that school but you would just do it from home as the other students would," Cutrell said.

Makes sense to me.

I'm not saying this is nothing, but his predecessors were able to establish normalized relations with much more important states bordering and actually engaged in fighting with Israel (Egypt and Jordan). Getting the UAE to do the same is not nothing, but its not in the same league.

But not on the level as this and especially to bring Israel in closer to establishing a peaceful resolution and to eliminate conflict in the broader ME. This is a very good and historic thing and again even liberals as much as they hate this president can’t argue with that fact.

For the record I think we can just operate under the assumption that we are freely exchanging our personal opinions in these comments

I agree

I accept "China said it wasn't serious" as a reasonable excuse for inaction in January and maybe February. By March that no longer mattered since everyone could see what was happening in Italy and other countries. By then the rest of the world recognized the seriousness of the threat and put in place national public health strategies to deal with it.

It is now September and the United States still has not done that. Its the only developed country in that category. This inaction stopped being attributable to Chinese malice or negligence many months ago. Since then Trump has had it in his power -regardless of what China or the Democrats or whoever say - to do something about that. He has not. That is on him.

Biden also played the 2017 song Despacito from his phone at a Hispanic event and did a little dance today in his time out of the basement,

I dont think he realizes this is cringeworthy pandering and that Despacito means "slowly". Trump doesnt have to do anything except watch Biden pander and deteriorate.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Biden seems more cognitively fit for office than Trump.

You must be joking.

I said it before and I’ll say it again, there is no way the Dems are going to allow a Trump/Biden debate. Something will happen to prevent it.

If Im wrong Im a no good dog face pony soldier.
