"WASHINGTON — Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said on Wednesday that women who end pregnancies should face punishment" - article

This unthinking clown is the new face of the GOP/Tea.

They went from wooden to bigot in a single step.

That's Progresive!

Trump: "Wait. What? I thought that was just what people wanted to hear to think I'm their guy. Okay, then. I meant the mother should be marked with a scarlet "A." No? Man, this is hard. Okay, I got it. I think the states should be held accountable. What do you mean that doesn't make sense? Okay, fine then. Doctors! Yeah, doctors should be punished! Yeah, that's gotta' be it. I knew I'd find a position that pandered, err... I mean "spoke" to the greatest number of voters."

Trump is an opportunist, insincere wart on the backside of politics.

19 ( +23 / -4 )

Sad, but true. This is the real face of the progressive left. Love to smear, love to divert the attention to anything conservative while using the abortion as a platform to further their political agenda. The Democratic party is THE most hypocrite party out there. As usual, the ONLY thing they are about is the next election and staying in power. The people be damned. No surprises.

flip flop, flip flop ....

14 ( +16 / -2 )

More flip flops than Suma beach in Summer.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

The establishment's SuperPac (aka the LSM) tries once again to derail Mr. Trump's campaign. What the status quo huggers fail to comprehend is that his political rivals are left with being forced to respond to his comment(s); not the other way around. In other words, Mr. Trump once again owns the U.S. political news cycle. . . .

-22 ( +2 / -24 )

Yeah, punish women who have abortions because if they don't suffer from having unwanted pregnancies, then they should suffer from the government.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

What is this numbskull yammering about? Abortion is not illegal, and conservative families make use of it--just ask multiple generations of the Barry Goldwater clan who had abortions before and after legalization. No punishment for the men who pay for a currently legal medical service?

"Trump’s insurgent campaign has revealed discord in the Republican Party. On Tuesday, both Trump and Kasich abandoned pledges to support the party’s eventual nominee." - article

Welcome to the big leagues Mr. Trump.

Have a go at a third party campaign.

Is this the genius busniessman part?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Oh hey guys, just tell me what you want. We can negotiate it, believe me.

"Mr. Trump once again owns the U.S. political news cycle." - comments

To what effect?

Proving Donald J. Trump has little sense of his audience.

Once having dominated the high school dropout, Trump ran up against reality.

Better now than the Republican National Convention where Trump thumpers will likely riot as Mr. Trump told them.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

He makes sense on the Muslim thing. Why should America take in millions of single Muslim men with no papers? Why don't these young men fight to save their own countries?

I said a flip flop a flippidy flop and a hippidy hop you don't stop. Now what you hear is not a test I'm a rapping to the beat I'm D.J. Trump and I'll say whatever the hell I want as long as I can get the seat...don't care about women, can't stand the blacks and the hell with latinoos...send them rapists back to Mexico you know how the story goes...I said a flip flop a flippidy flop a flippidy flop you don't don't stop...if I don't punch you in your face my manager or supporters most definitely will... And we don't give a **** cuz we'll post bail and I'm coverin' all the bills...I said a flip flop a flippidy flop and we don't stop...

You know, at least George Bush had the effrontery to say mistakes were made. So come on, you guys can't be 100% right all the time. That's how I know Trump and his cheerleaders are so full of it.

Looks like 'The Donald' and his thugs can't keep their hands off the ladies . . .

"Lewandowsi described his hands-off approach to the candidate:"

"anybody who thinks that they are going to be able to dictate what Mr. Trump should or shouldn't do doesn't understand the unparalleled success that he has had across his life.” - Lewandowsi, accused batterer, re-affirming Donald J. Trump infallibility.

Let those dummy puppet words ring in the ear.

Looks like 'The Donald' and his thugs can't keep their hands off the ladies . . .

Thug? As in how? More conspiratorial theories from the left?

Boy the left is beyond desperate, again. All this uproar over something that is a misdemeanor, NOT even a felony!

At this rate, by November IVanka will be voting for HRC.

Trump revises abortion stance after backlash

"Stance"?! Trump's "stances" are about as stable as Charlie Sheen on a midnight Taco Bell run. His take on reality suits his history as a reality TV host, a vague stream-of-consciousness vomiting of undigested nuggets. Some might claim he tossses these out to gauge public reaction, but that credits him too greatly. There is no "there" there, no overarching conception of morality, of man's place in the universe or of America's in the world, no destination in mind at all. We'll see how far he can string along his supporters. Perhaps he'll manage to hang on 'til the convention. Reality shows have never been this good.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

And another half million women decide though never vote for Donald J Trump.

It's still too early to tell. I'm not going to bet on anything as crazy as this election cycle has become. You just don't know.

Will the Republican Party be successful in stopping Trump?

Will Trump be successful in stopping the Republican party?

-17 ( +1 / -18 )

The Democratic party is THE most hypocrite party out there. As usual, the ONLY thing they are about is the next election and staying in power. The people be damned.

Yeah it's not like they want healthcare for the people, or competitive wages for the poor, or access to abortion for women, or equal treatment of minorities or....

Yeah, they are only interested in staying in power. The people be damned.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

I understand what Trump is basically saying. " If it is illegal to get an abortion and you do it anyway, then have you not broken the law?' Since when can we expect not to be punished for breaking the law, unless you are Hillary Clinton.

I realize this opens a whole new argument. If a man and woman both decide to abort the pregnancy then both should be liable as well as the Doctor. They say there are circumstances....rape, incest etc.

If it is ILLEGAL then one should have some kind of punishment, that is how I read it.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

Sad, but true. This is the real face of the progressive left. Love to smear, love to divert the attention to anything conservative while using the abortion as a platform to further their political agenda.

Amazing... How do you turn this into criticism of the left? These are direct quotes from Trump, complete with full context. Are you saying you agree with his positions? And if so, which ones? Those from today or from a week ago? Because they seem to change whenever it's convenient.

And you have to be kidding yourself if you don't believe that conservatives are the ones that use abortion as a platform. It was a settled issue with Roe v Wade. Liberals are happy with that decision. It's conservatives that use loopholes and try to pervert the intention of the decision.

I don't even think the Republican politicians are actually against abortion, but their "good Christian" base definitely is. Meanwhile they have the most children out of wedlock of any demographic, not to mention the rise of self-induced abortions in places where access to legal abortion has been made difficult.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Amazing... How do you turn this into criticism of the left?

It's deflection, to try to distract people from the failings being discussed. The more people are defending the attacks on the left, the less they are attacking the problems on the right.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Undecided voters like myself see that Mr. Trump's comments are directed at pro-life voters. U.S. leftists won't admit it, but there are far more of those within the electorate here in the States than pro-choice voters.

The only other option Americans have is to listen to status quo establishment candidates give vague TelePrompTer-aided speeches that are based on whatever opinion poll they choose to follow today.

Nothing the establishment's Super Pac has dished out so far has diminished Mr. Trump's popularity with U.S. voters who span the entire political spectrum. We The People have become disenchanted with career politicians (both democrat and republican) who are more interested in lining their pockets than doing the job they were hired to do. . . .

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

No Woman including Hillary Clinton can stop anti abortion movement. Trump is very correct to say that Women should be accountable for abortion because it is the murder of the unborn child.

Imagine teen girl slept with many boy friends without protection. There will be unwanted pregnancies. She should know that babies should not be killed like flies. If she is not ready for becoming mother, she should control herself. If not she is a self centered person;

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

Indeed Mr Bum.

Why does it seem a good the US is currently so excited about people who seem to want to undo all the progress made over the last few hundred years.

Oh the conservative right.

Want freedom of religion, as long as its theirs.

Want the ability to discriminate at will, as long as they aren't being, or even imagine that they are being, discriminated against.

Want government out of peoples lives except when it comes telling women what to do with their bodies and whom can be legally partnered with whom.

Want to rail against immigration, despite it being the very foundation of their nation.

Under some illusion that everyone can be rich if they "just try hard enough", despite the fact that it ignores reality and that just isn't possible.

Ignore facts about pollution and decry corporate responsibility to society all for a buck.

And really the petty nonsense that has been the large part of the messaging from that side is just ridiculous.

If it wasn't all so transparent you might actually think some of them actually believe the vile rants they so poorly deliver.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Undecided voters like myself

I think you mean Republicans like yourself who are undecided on which Republican candidate you want to vote for. Because lets be honest, the odds of someone like you voting Democrat are somewhere between zero and nil.

He said Kelly had “blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” which many saw as a reference to menstruation.

You'd have to be an absolute moron to not know he was talking about menstruation. No one is that stupid, some people just don't want their anointed leader to look bad for his stupid remarks.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

heynong, that debate despite the extremely emotionally charged rhetoric around it has been resolved a long long time ago.

Now I'm actually personally a little more conservative on what I think should be ok and not ok in this situation, but ultimately it doesn't matter because I shouldn't be dictating what another person does with their body.

However just to show how ridiculous it is you both simultaneously have people suggesting limited access to contraception (through making exceptions in health insurance and so on), and also saying abortion should be outlawed.. and suggesting things like abstinence only which statistically doesn't work, and all the while totally ignoring the reality of the fact that there is little black and white in this situation lots of grey, except that which is religiously motivated which has no place in a secular society.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

This man's mouth isn't connected to his brain. And I say this as a Hillary hater since the 1990s.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Trump isn't a conservative, at least he wasn't before he decided to run for president. I don't think he knows what he believes from one minute to the next. He just makes it up as he goes along. From his past statements he seems to support abortion right up to when the head is breached and scissors are inserted into the base of the skull. And after years of watching reality TV the American public just seem to roll with it too. He is getting huge support from those impoverished in the formerly industrial mid-west. I think the EPA has poisoned the water in more places than just Flint.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Want to rail against immigration, despite it being the very foundation of their nation.

Indeed USA is just about 200 "something" years old, a few generations only.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump can literally say anything and it wouldn't matter. The rednecks that are going to vote for him aren't going to change their minds.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Oh dear, Mr Trump being a pro lifer is suddenly set upon by all those advocating that a mother should have carte blanche to end their child's life! Why should there not be some type of penalty for those seeking termination? Elective abortion has already skewed the the populations of India and China has it not? However, I agree that there are cases where a mother may have recourse such as congenital defects or rape rape etc. and in those cases termination may be considered......

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Pro abortion groups are against Trump plan Anti abortion groups are against Trump plan.

"Want freedom of religion, as long as its theirs."

That's the key. In the last election they couldn't resist trying to discredit Romney based on his Mormon faith. Holier-than-thou pastor Mike Huckerbee was a leading light in exemplifying the idea of loving your neighbour as you love yourself.

Then this type of hypocrite goes on Fox News bleating about discrimination against Christians.

There are people, even on this site, who attempt to discredit Obama by calling him an atheist or a Muslim. A strange way of attacking people coming from people who believe in freedom of belief.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

They don't believe in freedom of believe or not as is my case.

Its just lip service so they can try to move america towards a theocracy, and that isn't working so well anywhere else if you care to take a look.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Amazing this gets down votes. Clueless people in the world.

If it is ILLEGAL then one should have some kind of punishment, that is how I read it.

Yes. If it was. That was the premise of the question. The elite and their MSM lap dogs are running scared. So sad sooooo many are so brainwashed. But hey! The kardashien's have a new pic up.....oh yeah.

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

Why is it legal to end a life without extenuating circumstances? Just rehashing the same rote reasons such as a woman's right to choose etc doesn't cut it.....

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

It does appear that the question is answered on the basis of 'if it were illegal'.

But his answer should have been 'it's not illegal, and shouldn't be'.

The great thing about his responses is that while nothing else he has said has seemed to hurt his popularity, this is one issue that is likely to destroy his chances of being voted for by a lot of people. Now, that won't likely change his current ratings, but it's one further barrier towards his likelihood of being elected president.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Trump changes all his opinions when there is backlash.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Why is it legal to end a life without extenuating circumstances?

So should we make it illegal to masturbate (men)? To menstruate (women)?

Just rehashing the same rote reasons such as a woman's right to choose etc doesn't cut it.....

It was decided with Roe vs. Wade in the early '70s. The reasons don't need to be rehashed, it's up to you people to show why the status quo should be changed. The reasons on our side have already been shown to be valid years ago.

Trump changes all his opinions when there is backlash.

Trump changes all his opinions any time he thinks his current audience wants to hear something different than his previous opinion.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I will vote for who will let in millions of single men without papers as Europe has done.

I do not care. Expat in Japan be safe away...yippy

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

@kurisupisu

I guess its a good thing its not up to you then.

Next time you need to make a medical decision lets make it into a political issue. Perhaps we can all vote on decisions about your body here on JT? Or maybe just put it up to activist groups..

Blood Transfusion.. no the LDS folks don't like it..

Cancer Treatment.. hey those cells have rights man and hey thats just nature maybe we shouldn't interfere and pray say the ironically named christian scientists. (the movement not actual scientists)

Here is the thing don't want an abortion, don't get one (or discuss with partner as maybe the case), don't want to get "gay" married, don't, don't want to serve the public, then don't have a public business. and so on and so on.

For the group that usually says government is too involved they always seem to be wanting to get too involved.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Trump is spoiled, ignorant and arrogant, He has no business in politics because he does not understand issues. He is a big fake. Enough said.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The only people who should face punishment are the nuttas who demonstrate near abortion clinics with their abject anti-abortion protest signs.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

We The People....

Amazing this gets down votes.

When I was a tot, my mother mentioned that any government containing the term "democratic" or "people's" in its name was likely to be neither (as in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea - they went for the trifecta of BS). Similarly, any use of "We The People" pretty much guarantees that the policies espoused thereafter are not, actually, supported by the majority of the people. Perhaps that is one reason for the down votes (aside from the remaining content).

2 ( +3 / -1 )

'So should we make it illegal to masturbate (men)? To menstruate (women)?'

This non sequitur does nothing to aid discussion does it?

And no, the issue is still being debated today ( as we are now) Also if the issue had been resolved then the question would never have been put to Trump would it?

Looking at my previous post on the skewed consequence of fooling with nature then nobody would accept the ending of life without serious consideration.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Sometimes the majority can be plain wrong, its not just a case of mob rule.

Best set up it up to try to have an equal playing field as possible with as many rights extended to as many people as possible.

Because while you might be in the largest majority now its not to say that will always be the case.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I think we're all just killing time with the reality portion of the show before the fun begins in Cleveland. It will either be Trump, which is insane, or someone who received fewer votes than Trump, which is also insane.

Or is there another option that I'm missing?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Or is there another option that I'm missing?

One that I can think of. Trump is obviously panicked, fumbling and off his stride - more important from his point of view, he doesn't seem to be enjoying this anymore. What happens if he simply packs things up and goes home? What would happen to his delegates? There is no precedent for that.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Wouldn't Trump being elected president punishment enough for all of us?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Heh. Tick, tock insane Republicans...

The November Rapture awaits.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

'So should we make it illegal to masturbate (men)? To menstruate (women)?'

This non sequitur does nothing to aid discussion does it?

Sure it does. These are the seeds of life. Fetuses are created from sperm and eggs, which become people. For people who say abortion should be illegal, this is just tracking back a little further. Is this too extreme for you? Then maybe you should consider that your viewpoint is too extreme for others. After all, it's just different points on the scale.

Texas A&M,

. . . directed at pro-life voters. U.S. leftists won't admit it, but there are far more of those within the electorate here in the States than pro-choice voters.

Not exactly. As of the most recent Gallup poll (May 2015), the number of American who self-identify as pro-choice rose to 50% versus those who see themselves as pro-life (44%).

A 2013 Pew Research Center poll backs up the Gallup results with near identical results to their own survey regarding the legality of abortion. 51% of Americans believed abortion should be legal versus 43% who believed it should not.

Furthermore, the trend seems to be that pro-choice Americans have been gradually increasing in number since 2012, contrary to what a number of pro-life websites and conservative news outlets would have the public believe.

It also needs to be noted that there is a slight but definite gender gap emerging. An increasing number of women are self identifying as pro-choice, from a low of 42% in 2010 to an all-time high of 54% in 2015 (Gallup began polling on the issue in 2001).

Men supporting choice dropped from an all-time high of 51% in 2006 to 46% in 2015.

This, of course, is always fascinating to me, considering how absurd it truly is for any man to dictate to women precisely how they should make reproductive decisions.

In any case, Trump made the initial comment, then he changed his mind when he saw that people were genuinely not happy with it. That's not presidential material. That's a butt-kisser.

Fizzbit,

Yes. If it was [ILLEGAL]. That was the premise of the question.

Trump initial answer to this hypothetical question could have been (and probably should have been, if he wasn't such an opportunistic, unprincipled hack), "The doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman." And had he done so, this would likely have been little more than a blip on the new cycle.

But instead, Trump's immediate response was to advocate punishing women who have illegal abortions.

Clearly, even among pro-life conservatives and his own supporters, this was a chilling position to take, as evidenced by Trump's immediate efforts to backtrack.

THAT'S the issue here and you know it, as does any other Trump-backer/self-styled foe of liberals here and around the country. This coy pretense that all of this is much ado about nothing is insulting to the electorate.

Ham and Eggs, Sperm and Eggs, Green Eggs and Ham! What is the difference and who cares!

Trump is allowed to change his opinions as things move and sway, just as we are.

I hope he changed his opinion on Muslims and lets in lots of young single muslim men.

I also hope he changes and says abortion is great and should be the woman's choice as it the women that own their own bodies.

@Shonanbb

Sure, should we nuke isis or not, oops too late, Hey president Trump can change his mind right :P

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Superlib, another option that occurred to me while walking my dog - and much more Trumpian: Suppose he enters the convention with a plurality but not majority of delegates (which seems likely now) and senses that the establishment is bent on denying him the nomination (which is quite plausible). What is to prevent him from marching any and all delegates who will follow off of the convention platform that night?

From what I'm aware, delegates are bound to the candidate they've been assigned to regardless of party. Perhaps the GOP will rewrite the rules to clarify that delegates are restricted to voting for a GOP nominee, but I don't think that's in the rules at the moment. That would leave the GOP to nominate their candidate with a rump of delegates, inevitably tarnishing the nominee. What would be in it for Trump? - if he ran as an independent, he would certainly lose, but I'm not entirely convinced that he ever wanted to be president anyway. He would, though, humiliate the GOP in such a way that would enter history books.

Laguna: Perhaps the GOP will rewrite the rules to clarify that delegates are restricted to voting for a GOP nominee

I was under the impression that they can write any rules they want anytime they want to exclude or include anyone. The question is whether or not they can sell it to their base as a legitimate course of action, especially if they are using bad faith arguments.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

So what about the guy who knocked her up? Hanged, drawn, and quartered? Castration followed by guillotine? Our jails are too full, so we need to start working on this. What about fornicators and adulteres? Shouldn't we punish those who have sex outside of marriage, both men and women? What about people who get divorces? They swore to be faithful until death. Shouldn't they be punished too? I mean, really, we've got a lot of work ahead of us, if anyone is left.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

A week from now, Trump will deny having ever said that, "There has to be some form of punishment" for women who have abortions if the procedure is made illegal nationally. He'll claim he was misquoted and taken out of context. What happened here was Trump thought he was telling supporters what they wanted to hear, then was shocked when even the anti-abortion crowd cried "FOUL!" Anti-abortion proponents have never called for punishment of the women, only the doctors performing the procedures. Trump failed to learn that bit of important information before opening his mouth. Idiot.

I don't believe that women were punished for having an abortion even before Roe v. Wade. The focus has always been on going after the person performing the (at that time illegal) abortion. Of course it is now legal so Trump was answering a hypothetical that isn't at all likely to become reality. Still it was a dumb and ill-informed answer.

For people who say abortion should be illegal, this is just tracking back a little further. Is this too extreme for you? Then maybe you should consider that your viewpoint is too extreme for others. After all, it's just different points on the scale.

Yeah - it reminds me of the extremists on the other side who believe women should be free to terminate a baby even after birth if she decides she does not want to take the child home.

Will Trump be successful in stopping the Republican party?

Trump is the Republican party. He is the id of the GOP, basically vocalizing everything that party had been thinking for decades but too afraid to say.. The republican party created this monster and now they don't know what to do with him.

But that's okay, because he will be very very good for women. He'll be FANTASTIC for women....HAH!

Maybe he thought police people Rerepublicanwomen and he thought they will vote for him? disparate action to become popular among women?

Trump has also called illegal immigrants from Mexico criminals and rapists and pushed for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.

Actually, Trump opened his candidacy with this one. Pretty clever.

If that isn't genius, what is?

Trump thinks so little of the American, he imagines he'll broker some deal, just like his abortion defilement, and the GOP/Tea will scab over the puss of Trump's racism and misogyny and pass this reckless degenerate through the intestines of the GOP/Tea and into the Oval Office.

Not a pretty picture, is it? Considering this is what the GOP/Tea did last time they were in the White House.

Americans are still cleaning up from Bush's mess and Trump's ready make another pile.

Well, it's true that Trump will bring a fresh approach. He doesn't know anything about the world, about history, about politics, or about cooperation. Very fresh. My friend's cockerspaniel could be equally fresh, but the spaniel does cooperate, though he pees on furniture sometimes.
