Talking is not the answer!"

That sounds like 'talk' to me. I just hope the situation stays at talk level.

Trump sows confusion by

opening his mouth and using his Twitter account.

He just clarified on national T.V. that his  "talking is not the answer" tweet was in the regards to the past 25 years America and her allies HAVE been talking to NK with little to no results. C'mon people.........

Fancy that. Generalissimo failed to mention the other extortion money to israel,Egypt, saudis.

Trump's use of Twitter is brilliant.

He stays a step ahead of everyone else.

That's one way of describing it... another way is that he hasn't a clue and just fires off whatever thought bubble comes into his head...

They are going to wait for the results of sanctions to take effect. It is still diplomacy but without the negotiation.

Kim has more experience and is better at playing the madman gambit than the Don. The Don issues grandiose threats that everyone knows he can't back up. That tees it up for Kim to defy the threats with concrete action that escalate the confrontation but leave the US with no room other than to back down instead of increase the pressure. The DPRK has been playing this game for decades, and so far the Don has been out of his league.

"The U.S. has been talking to North Korea, and paying them extortion money, for 25 years. Talking is not the answer!" Trump tweeted.

Matthew Pennington seems to be the one who is confused about Trump's intentions. That's probably because Trump's administration doesn't keep Matthew Pennington up to date on everything/anything that occurs in the Trump administration. Of course, that doesn't stop the Matthew Pennington's from sharing their opinion of what they think may have happened.

Trump was expressing his frustration at North Korea's

Like teenager and other immature people do when they post their frustrations online. Hell, some teenagers are more mature than Trump.

Young Kim unlike his father never served in the DPRK military or even had a post. He was a pampered spoiled child that went to school for many years in Switzerland.

The Don issues grandiose threats that everyone knows he can't back up.

How do would you know that? Can you prove it, were you there with him and his generals as to what their plans for NK are?

That tees it up for Kim to defy the threats with concrete action that escalate the confrontation but leave the US with no room other than to back down instead of increase the pressure.

That can only go on for so long.

The DPRK has been playing this game for decades, and so far the Don has been out of his league.

I think it's the other way around. You now have a president and some generals that would obliterate that country if they would actually hit this country, SK or any US territories.

The statement raised fresh uncertainty about the Trump administration's strategy for North Korea.

Fresh or more like stale, Trump always creates uncertainty because he is unfit for the office.

The article itself agrees with Trump while trying to even add Russia, Qatar and transgender policy into an article about NK.

The immediate outlook for diplomacy, however, appears bleak.

Doesnt talking=diplomacy? So lets do something that even the writer of the article says wont work (while of course while complaining that Trump said he wont do it.)

trump reminds me ex PM Kan. says one thing then changes to the exact opposite.

Trump doesn't know how to solve this problem. Which actually isn't a dig on him. No one knows how to solve this problem. Where Trump fails though is in taking a potentially irresolvable security crisis and trying to treat it like a reality TV show, a vehicle to make himself the center of attention. This escalates the conflict when we need de-escalation.

Sounds a lot like Trump to be honest. They'd probably get along.

_____

The current round of missile tests was in response to Trump ? He hadn't directed anything to Kim on the issue for weeks.

Yeah, thats the thing. When he got Trump's attention, Trump dealt with him in a harsh manner and then deescalated. Now that he has deescalated, Kim feels he isnt getting any attention so he is starting up again. Its not like the harsh words from Trump didnt work, Kim just needs constant attention.

Then you must really hate congress.

Utter nonsense, but liberal humor, at times, can be very funny.

"I would speak to him, I would have no problem speaking to him."

-- Republican candidate Trump about NK dictator Kim Jong-un, May 2016

How just a year could make a 180

Not like he didn't threaten to shoot missiles at Guam since then? That might change someone's mind about willingness to talk about things directly.

Same point as Katsu above but yes, this perfectly describes Kim's adversary as well.

Yeah, but unlike the last two Democratic previous presidents, Trump at least listens to his military Generals.

I'd say Trump is a master of deliberate disinformation to confuse and mislead his adversaries, Kim and the media included.  Makes them wonder what the next step will be.  You can speculate and second-guess all you want, but most likely it will be wrong and that's what Trump expects.

Trump at least listens to his military Generals.

More like Trump abdicates his responsibilities as Commander in Chief.

A President should listen to generals, but the President should make the decisions. Instead, Trump just tells them to do what they think it right. That is all well and good, until things go wrong and they usually do when bullets are flying. Mark my words, Trump will blame the generals when something goes wrong and claim he is not responsible. He is a thin-skinned troll. Not what you want in a leader.

Trump is only a master of marketing and bullying. He can label adversaries quickly and in a catchy way to create headlines and ratings. This is his only skill and the only thing he does deliberately. Intellectually, he is a mess. Ever hear him speak? He is barely more coherent than Palin.

Ok, so you're saying he's now doing what previous president did? I find that very hard to believe.

A President should listen to generals, but the President should make the decisions.

Yes, but as in Obama's case not to follow up on his red line promise, a lot of people in Syria died because of it and guess what? Assad is still in power.

Thin-skinned, I knew another president that was thin-skinned and thought he knew more than everyone else in the entire country.

" Kim Jong Un called for more weapons launches targeting the Pacific Ocean to advance his country's ability to contain Guam"

Yes, Guam needs to be contained.

There's been a dramatic increase in missile launches and provocative actions by NK since Trump got into power. His tough talk and tweeting has obviously had the opposite effect than what some had hoped for.

It just never occurred to you that the NK have been trying to perfect their Nuke technology and would have done so regardless who would have been in office. Trump can tweet his little heart out over Kim as much as he wants, as long as they when they fire a missile and it doesn't hit our troops or anywhere in Japan, Kim doesn't have to worry about anything, if he does, I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.
