Shame on people politicizing this death on an industrial scale.

Who cares at this point about politics. I could barley read the article and broke down in tears after getting only this far. refrigerated morgue trucks on the streets to collect the dead on the previous article.

I am from the greater Boston Area. Boston and New York have been rivals for since the birth of America.

I say not today. Today we are all just Americans and America will rise and over come this. Its the American people that make America great. Not it's leader's in the grand scale of things. The average everyday American.

Some reader's do not like religion in the feed.

But, God help us all please. My heart breaks for my country. This beyond comprehensible for me.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

-Abraham Lincoln

America. American's rise and over come! We can beat this. Never give up!

"I want every American to be prepared for the hard days that lie ahead,” Trump said.

I'm happy he's finally stating how serious this runaway monster is. More straight talk!

Fake quote. Lincoln never said this. Your last line needs some work too, reads like a Trump tweet. Apart from that though yeah, wellish said.

As a born and raised New Yorker from Queens Long Island New York City with an accent just like Dr. Fauci's I hope the numbers stay contained and NY comes out of it ok. So far all my relatives there are ok, but this virus likes to jump around.

Let's hope Tokyo is not too late in it actions.

Good to know your kin are doing well, hope for the best outcome, but you’re right this virus is absolutely devastating and no one is safe, even hearing Chris Cuomo getting it, feel bad for the guy. I just hope things get better and fast.

I agree, but it seems like Fukuoka is struggling with its own climbing rate of outbreak. You would think people here would be following the same guidelines as instructed around the world and over here for the most part, you’d think life is totally normal as if a pandemic didn’t exist at all.

To be fair, Japan is but one country in a long list of countries who refuse to learn from the examples of previous failures and are suffering as a result, and will suffer MUCH worse as they fail to see the facts. The US is chief among those at the moment, and in very large part to the man whom you supported three weeks ago when he downplayed what's happening, and people who took his response and those of, say, FOX news (now afraid of being sued), and acted exactly as you pointed out above, and yet you still support him now as he suddenly takes it seriously and says he always has. So, while I agree with your sentiment, it's not just people 'here', it's people all over who have downplayed the risk, be it politicians at the top, or Joe Tanaka going to Hanami at the bottom.

True, but the factors of why that is are completely different from the US.

Well the FNC has some of the best lawyers on the planet, so worry I is not even on the horizon for them, but yes, the President most of the leaders in NY and Dr. Bardot a trained medical physician who should have known better than to brag about there was nothing to worry about when talking about this virus, let’s not loose sight of that and as a medical doctor, she completely screwed up and that carries consequences as people follow her medical advice all the time which is different from the President spousing his personal opinions.

So, while I agree with your sentiment, it's not just people 'here', it's people all over who have downplayed the risk, be it politicians at the top, or Joe Tanaka going to Hanami at the bottom

I agree.

It looks like the last of denialism is petering out, not just from Trump but from those idiots who were still spreading misinformation until recently that this wasn't any more serious than seasonal influenza.

We are now in the same page.

I think that the best way to take control in the US, as with other countries, is a temporary lock down along with the rest of the world. Two weeks should mean that the infected will develop symptoms and will only be able to pass it on to their own household.

The alternative is a health service that cannot cope. Ten thousand ventilators will not be enough if you have a million infected.

How we deal with this long-term is a different matter - perhaps we will need a day of isolation once or twice a week or something, just to reduce the rate of infection.

Ah so

Note that half of the infection in the US are in NY. Maybe that hotspot needs to be isolated.

And I am not sure about "rest of the world". A friend who lives in the countryside in Thailand says life is completely normal.

The virus has been confirmed in every state. It takes serious effort from everyone to lock it down.

Is it possible that many are misrepresenting the virus situation? . . . Previous to this year, it was stated that as many as 50,000 die from pneumonia each year in the US alone . . . . https://www.thoracic.org/patients/patient-resources/resources/top-pneumonia-facts.pdf

No.

Thank you for your question.

....and about 70,000 from the flu. The problem here is that this virus is so infectious that it will create a spike where the the system is overwhelmed. That is what all the talk about "flattening the curve" is about.
