Trump says he plans to get involved in diplomat's wife case

President Donald Trump says he's planning to get involved in the case of an American diplomat's wife who left the UK after becoming a suspect in a fatal wrong-way crash.

Trump on Wednesday called what happened "a terrible accident" and said his administration would seek to speak with the driver "and see what we can come up with."

He noted that Brits drive on the left side of the road, while in the U.S., people drive on the right side. He says the confusion is understandable but "two wonderful parents have lost their son."

The Aug 27 crash near RAF Croughton, a British military base, killed 19-year-old motorcyclist Harry Dunn.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who spoke to Trump on Wednesday, has urged the woman to return to the UK.

Donny may well get involved, but will he do the right thing?

Not the first nor last time that diplomatic immunity has been misused and abused by foreigners in order to escape accountability in fatal traffic accidents nor will it be the last.

The US should do what is right, set an example, and expedite the extradition of Ms. Anne Sacoolas back to England to stand trial for her negligent driving.

If she had stayed she would have faced a Driving without Due Care & Attention charge ( in US terms a non-felony level indictment) meaning a fine, license endorsement But almost zero risk of any jail time. Moreover, the Brits could have had information to understand the accident and maybe introduce measures to reduce the risks when people exiting the US base in future, the grieving family would have had some closure and it would avoid a diplomatic spat between allies...

Trump should stay out of this.

The wife should return to the UK on her own and help with the investigation. If any punishment is required, that is for the British system to determine.

Diplomatic immunity but notice should be filed with Interpol.

Won’t be able to go anywhere.

Why hasn't the woman been named in this article, why is she being shielded here? Where are the relevant details of her actions, and that of the US authorities. She's all over the UK press as she is a suspect; her name is Anne Secoolas, 42, and worked at a US airbase near where the incident took place. After assuring the police she would be available for questioning and that she would not be leaving the UK she and her family were immediately sneaked out of the UK on a private jet. An abuse of diplomatic status and she has also made life hell for the parents of Harry Dunn. I hope she can sleep at night.

Trump defended her negligence. Disgraceful.

Luddite: that base is also used for intelligence by the US. They probably don’t want someone from the US intelligence community held and interrogated.

So what is the “right thing”?

you usually won’t say what that is in advance so that you can reserve your ability to attack Trump whenever he decides.

what should he do liberals? What would satisfy you?

Nothing, because it wouldn’t matter even if he cured cancer.

He should revoke her diplomatic immunity and have her extradited to the U.K. in an adult-like manner, not via twitter.

Trumpophiles just don't get it. If Donny cured cancer without unevessarily harming others, we'd give him credit. If he did it by killing innocent babies, we'd correctly disparage him for having killed the babies.

Hilarious to hear you people whine about this given you constantly refuse to accept facts that put Obama in a positive light. Anyone else smell the hypocrisy?

Crazy Joe spells it out: *The US should do what is right, set an example, and expedite the extradition of Ms. Anne Sacoolas back to England to stand trial for her negligent driving.*

The right thing for the UK to do is put her on trial, and consider insisting that in future all Americans, diplomatic or no, do not drive on UK roads unless they have a proper UK driving license.

In the words of the Chosen One - The woman was driving on the wrong side of the road, and that can happen. You know, those are the opposite roads, that happens. I won’t say it ever happened to me, but it did.

You see, it's the roads' fault, they shouldn't be 'opposite'. Perfectly natural mistake for anyone to make.

It seems more than likely that Trump will not do the right thing. He apparently sees nothing wrong in what she did.

Trump revealed his position on a secret note photographed putting it into his pocket.

SECRET UNITED KINGDOM

NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL

(If Raised) Note, as Secretary Pompero told Foreign Secretary Raab, that the spouse of the U.S. Government employee will not return to the United Kingdom.

Aren’t you tired to repeat this?

It sounded ridiculous before, still sounds ridiculous now and will sound ridiculous in the future.

On the other hand, you will slaver all over Trump whatever he decides. And when he flipflops again, you'll love that too, and immediatley forget that you originally liked the opposite of what he flipflopped to.

So let's ask you before he starts flipflopping and accusing the parents of being 'losers', what should he do?

The U.S. Government will do nothing. Hopefully a payout for the family and better signage at the gate of the base warning driver to drive on the left.

Like that time obama was given a Nobel peace prize for his efforts in.......oh wait, no he was just “given” the prize in advance of doing anything.

They did do something, the smuggled her out of the country. If they hadn't she would have been charged and if found guilty get a suspended sentence and banned from driving, and then she and the Dunns could have got on with their lives.

I agree with Cleo, US licence holders should not be able to drive in the UK unless they pass the UK test. The difference in standard of driving tests within the two countries is huge.

I don't think the Dunns care about money, TBH. They want justice.

This'll test how Trump and Boris could work together or not

If he cured cancer they would complain he took too long.

Agree with BoJo and others who want the woman to return to the UK to submit to UK judgement in this case. Screw diplomatic immunity.

Trump-Johnson telecon...

Trump: B-Man, it's me, the stable genius - I understand we have a situation....

Johnson: King Donnie, yes, it appears one of your diplomat's wive's stuck and killed a UK citizen...

Trump: UK citizen? Does that mean they're English?

Johnson: Yes your Majesty, the UK stands for United Kingdom...you know where that is?

Trump: Same place as where Harry Potter lives?

Johnson: Umm yes...can we fix this situation?

Trump: Geez, I don't know, let me talk to my brilliant attorney, Crazy Rudy - you should see this guy - makes Charles Manson look like he's on Nembutal...

Trump should rescind her immunity and deliver her to UK law enforcement authorities. It's fairly clear that the evidence points to her being negligent. I would assume if the US cooperated fully the Brits would let her off with a fairly light sentence. Then the parents could file a civil suit if they wanted compensation.

She didn't work at the spy base, her husband did,

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I understand Anne Sacoolas Husband is a senior NSA analyst which could come some way to explain why Anne Sacoolas was spirited away on a flight from RAF** **Mildenhall. All of little consolation for the Dunn family.

The Husband role is the reason Anne Sacoolas will not be facing Judicial proceedings.

Hmmm.....

Trump has really nothing else to do?

Or maybe this diplomat has some knowledge about the Ukraine affair?

Just baseless assumption, but seriously, Trump has really nothing else to do than mediating in a car accident 6,000 KM away in a country that follows credible rule of law?

She killed someone extradite her back to the UK to face criminal charges I would be very impressed with Donny boy if he did this after all she killed someones son...BTW where was Trump when couple of Americans lost their father chopped up into little pieces.
