We also know that as part of the recent Saudi US-Russia meeting between two great powers, the US delegation requested Russia open up or broker talks with Iran. Obviously, the nuclear program and the wider Middle East are the main issues of concern to Washington. And Moscow obliged.

Russia played one of their many cards from their very strong hand. Quite possible the letter was passed during that meeting (although that is speculation). Trump understands that working with the great powers is more productive than provoking them, plus he is trying to rebuild American diplomacy, which was trashed by the previous administration, is his quest for peacemongering.

The deal focused only on nuclear weapons and did nothing to stop Iran’s missile program, terrorism funding, or regional aggression which was one of the most confusing and most frustrating part of the deal altogether

We gave and Iran gained – we made major concessions, giving Iran money and legitimacy without ensuring long-term security.

Expect Trump to achieve a success in Iran, once Ukraine war is officially concluded. Many believe Putin's Russia will offer Iran a nuclear umbrella 'guaranty' to ensure Iran's security without directly possessing WMDs.

No doubt Putin's role and influence in this critical matter of Iranian WMD proliferation will be highly impactful and thus a card to heavily influence Trump Admin.
