A dinner without correspondents would have been awkward.

But you know he'll be tweeting about as it happens. What a wuss.

Anyway, as they say, the show must go on. Still enjoy watching the roasting he got from President Obama. Classic. Although in Trump's case, he won't be able to answer those who demanded his tax return (even if he does go) in the same way President Obama handled the birth certificate lies.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Not a sign of a healthy democracy when the president himself does not trust his country's media, and vice versa. Trump is obviously largely to blame for the situation we are in and should have realised by now that both sides need each other to unify the nation.

That such event and platform is now a no go zone for the potus is actually quite sad. Not a win for U.S. media either.

Although i understand DT's decision, (would have been nasty) i still think that a bigger man would have owned his errors and perhaps found a way to move fwd. This no show/defection says he isn't, perhaps, the fearless, indestructible leader he thought he was.

Obama's joke about Trump at the 2011 WHCD, which may have gotten under his skin and got him to consider running for president in order to restore his bruised ego:

"Now, I know that he’s taken some flak lately, but no one is happier, no one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald. And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter — like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?”

Obama has a sense of humor. Trump, like all blowhard egotists, does not.

Trump says he won't attend correspondents dinner this spring

Of course he won't. He's a petulant, whinging child who still can't fathom why less than 25% of the electorate thinks he's worth a damn.

Just wait until those folks find out he's kicking them and several million Americans off of the ACA. His support dwindles by the day, and hiding from the world isn't going to staunch the bleeding.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Perhaps he fears he'll be made to look ridiculous. These fears are not groundless.

How pathetic.

Spicer in December: keeping an open channel from the White House to the press is the difference between “a democracy vs. a dictatorship.”

Spicer in February: We don't like some of you so you can't come here anymore

Good god, you don't have to be a right-wing loon to hate the press. Stephen Colbert on our slavish corporate media (way back when W. was pres) and Larry Wilmore pawned them last year. Trump is a thin-skinned blowhard but this event should die.

The most powerful man in the world making fun of a private citizen is bullying, right? Doesn't take a sense of humor to bully someone. This is why I can't take anti-Trumpers seriously. Everything they complain about was perfectly fine when their guy was doing it. The only problem they have with fascism is that it's not their guy leading the oppression.

Chick....Chick....chick..CHICKEN!!!

I hope they bring a slew of video/audio clips from this wuss & ROAST him anyway!!

If he cant handle this charity event then he is clearlu UNFIT to be PTUS, time to resign little Donnie boy & YES you can take your ball home with you!

3 ( +8 / -5 )

He's a wuss.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Japan: this is ritual. Too bad he is not going to attend.

In 2011, he was on hand — and appeared humiliated — as Obama lobbed joke after joke at his expense.

He sat there quietly and took it. And 4 years later he had Obama's job. Sweetest bit of revenge I have ever seen.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

"The most powerful man in the world making fun of a private citizen is bullying, right?"

If you put your weight behind something as ludicrous as birtherism, you deserve to be utterly humiliated, not to mention shunned by decent people.

Obama actually took it easy on him in my opinion considering just how stupid, not to mention sinister, Trump's rancid trash was.

Trump needs to grow up.

Bravo, President Trump, for not going. To do so would be legitimizing the corrupt media. Perhaps the DNC bootlickers within the alt-left radical media can talk HRC into showing up instead. I'm sure she'll do anything these days for a couple dollars for the Clinton foundation. . .

All hail the Chicken-in-Chief™

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Seriously, what a chicken. I think they should hire Alec Baldwin to play the president. I would sure enjoy watching that show.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

It's probably "fake news". He will show up in grand style with the family, cabinet, and wife behind him.

CrazyJoe: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov

Should try that. He will disable it quickly.

Can anybody imagine Trump taking a roasting with a sense of humor?

Neither can anybody else

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Good on him, its a fund raiser, so why don't they all cut the pretentiousness and give the money directly where its needed instead of going and showing off to the world how good and rich they are by engorging themselves with wine and food. Pack of hypocrites.

corrupt media

Ahh, the nostalgic ring of Lügenpresse.

Next, the evocative whiff of book-burning?

To be fair, he was roasted on Comedy Central, and he did take it with a sense of humor.

Back in the Sates visiting the folks. The corporate MSM and their talking heads is pathetic. They don't really report news anymore they just talk ALOT about what they think is important, which is how they control the narrative. Still no mention of the riots in Sweden but they go on and on about Russia. I stay on CSPAN.

Trump is right to ignore this DC Oscars. The corporate left news are a bunch of liars, brianwashers and globalists. Only those who don't drink Kool-aid would understand this. For example, if the corporate news was independent, then they would be going on and on about how the recent DNC election of Perez NEVER addressed the huge corruption, scandals and stealing the nomination from Sanders. Not a word. Maybe on FOX but I don't watch them either.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Of course he won't. He's a petulant, whinging child who still can't fathom why less than 25% of the electorate thinks he's worth a damn.

I think only liberals care about that. Good on Trump for standing up to the media and giving them the finger, they'll get over this.

Just wait until those folks find out he's kicking them and several million Americans off of the ACA.

That's not going to happen, whatever you think about Trump, the absolute last thing the GOP and Trump want is for millions to come after them with pitchforks and torches. Don't believe the hype.

His support dwindles by the day, and hiding from the world isn't going to staunch the bleeding.

What on Earth are you talking about, it's the opposite. he never had Obama voters or the established Republicans, he had and has been getting more independents which is really what matters and what can make or break a candidate, everything else doesn't matter.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

He gave no reason for not attending

pussy!

This is what's going on. Correct!

Good on Trump for standing up to the media

by bravely running away

blowing raspberries.

The most powerful sook in the world. He will probably spend a week telling us what he will do or did instead of being there. Can Alec Baldwin attend as The Donald instead! Now THAT would be fun!

Chicken sh** ! ! !

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Mr Trump dont needs those so called news media, he has twitter is enough. Or maybe he can act like China by forming a ministry of propaganda to express messages to tge nation and the world.

"I think only liberals care about that. Good on Trump for standing up to the media and giving them the finger, they'll get over this."

Fair enough but as someone who spends quite a lot of time ROFLing, don't you think the ability to at least LOL at yourself at an event like this is a good thing? Nobody's asking for a LMAO.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

He didn't to insult chefs? Aren't they serve. servet same food they askq first time thew ate?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

That meants next president will be already there in April. Great !

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I like how the right wing talking heads are trying to float the idea that this isn't norm-breaking cowardice because Reagan also didn't attend one year.

Of course, that year Reagan was recovering from getting shot, and even if I didn't like the man that's a fair enough excuse to skip an event. Trump is just a coward.

The White House Correspondents’ Association is a private (ie non-government) organization. It's obvious that the alt-left, left-wing, left-leaning, news media outlets do not like the fact that Trump has been defending himself. They don't like the fact that Trump talks directly to the people without filtering his information thru the news media outlets first.

Many in the news media outlets have lost the trust of the public. While they prefer to blame others for this lack of trust, it's the media's own handling of their own news stories that caused that lack of trust. If the news media outlets wish to regain the public's trust, they'll need to do a better, less biased, job of reporting the news. Their choice.

If the White House Correspondents’ Association wants to donate to a charity, if they want their guests to donate to a charity, that's fine. Pleading/demanding that Trump attend their association's private function in order to draw a larger audience is absurd. Trump has already made it clear that he doesn't appreciate the media's fake news, bias, spin, and personal attacks. As POTUS, I'm sure he has many more important things to do.

I suspect that anything the White House Correspondents’ Association is involved with has a low priority with the current White House.

Heh Trump won't be missed... wonder if he'll send out another whiny tweet.
