If Obama had free reign to exercise the same power as Putin, Eric Cantor, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Roger Ailes, etc., would either be residing in a remote gulag uprooting large tree stumps, or dead.

Trump said he didn’t “want to broadcast to the enemy what my plan is.”

Because he doesn't have one. This man is a total BSer.

14 ( +17 / -3 )

Trump makes a bigger fool of himself every time he opens his mouth to speak. He will hang himself with his own rope (which in this case is his endless stream of nonsensical double talk).

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Praising Vladamir Putin....

Okay, Trump fans, spin this into something positive. Can't wait to read what bubbles to the surface.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

It’s a very different system, and I don’t happen to like the system. But certainly in that system he’s been a leader, far more than our president has been a leader.

Trump supports Obama's use of executive action!

7 ( +7 / -0 )

If this were reversed, the right would be screaming about how this is verifiable proof that the speaker is in the financial pocket of Putin.

Yet they are silent on the matter when it's their anointed one.

And they speak of hypocrisy...

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Trump reminds me of O'Brien's quote from Orwell's 1984:

"One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship."

Maybe Trump could get out of debt if he gets elected and pay off his loans to the international financiers who he's in the owe to. If he becomes (stays?) pals with Czar Putin he might be able to build a Trump Tower and casino in Crimea, assuming of course his health allows him to continue.

@Fizzbit

We agree on the filthy warmongering but I specifically asked about Trump looking to expand an already gargantuan military. I understand he's trying to appeal to the many headbangers who get off on watching missile footage on Fox blowing people to smithereens, but I don't see anything like the departure from the norm you see from Trump.

Again, more money for the arms industry. Sick.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

It seems that Trump loves Putin at first sight.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

@Fizzbit

The LA Times seems a bit MSM for you. I was looking forward to a conspiracy theory about the nature of the relationship between Trump and Putin. I know you support Trump, but have you heard anything from non-MSM sources about this? The lovebirds Donald and Vlad must have set tongues wagging.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

"With all the death and destruction that my US Presidents have caused for over the years"

That's something I also find sickening. I wonder what your take is on Trump looking to pump more steroids into the muscle-bound monster that is the US military. The arms manufacturers must be twirling their moustaches.

Some things never change, eh?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Don't look at the debate (conflict) from the level of the rhetoric. Follow the money, and look at the record. And while you're at it, look at the pics of Trumps layout in his hotel. The man has the worst taste in decor in modern history. Everything is gold. Everything. It's bizarre. What class is Putin in? The billionaire class. Why is he recently divorced? Something to do with some poisoning? Trump doesn't have middle class reasoning or morality. What did Clinton do while her husband was in office? She tried to get a health care package through congress. Blocked. By guess who? This isn't that complicated.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Is there actually a big difference if he admires Putin or if moderates embrace socialism?

You always give him a pass on everything. ROFL Benghazi.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

@FizzBit

I think Trump feels that war is bad for business.

And yet he wants to increase military spending... Without even having a plan... I know, I know Clinton's a hawk too. But at least her hawkishness is based on knowledge of the situation. Trump continues to display a complete lack of knowledge on all matters presidential. If he cares so much about the country, you'd think he'd bother to read up on stuff like foreign policy. Instead he clearly spends all his time glued to the MSM, so he can respond on Twitter to every little criticism.

I'm not happy about Clinton being the Democratic nominee, but you're assessment of Trump is all wrong. Best case scenario, he'd be another George W., a know-nothing who lets his advisors make all the decisions. I'm likely voting for Jill Stein with the expectation that Clinton will win. It's disappointing but she'd still do a better job than Trump.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Yes, for someone who wants to get rid of many of the military operations and bases overseas, it is rather strange to see the need for a bigger military. After all, the current military overseas can be employed in America to help with disasters for example or defend the country if needs be. Or they can be retrained to help in other areas.

And yet...

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I know Hillary is a hegomonic petrodollar warmonger. Trump, I don't know

Of course Trump is a warmonger. He wants to get the nukes out and he said he wants to increase military spending.

I'm gonna bomb the SHIT out of 'em! Trump

3 ( +3 / -0 )

you forgot to list what Trump has, what is it?

A really bad case of big-mouthed ignoramus.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I can't imagine many GOPers have love for Russia. Now obviously they won't criticize Trump for it, but for us moderates it's just weird to see a man running for President fawning over the dictator in the USSR. I can't imagine there will be any legitimate reason they can give so expect the full assault on Hillary as usual.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Blah, blah, blah and more blah. 1/20/17 - "Madame President"

2 ( +3 / -1 )

And the worst thing about all this:

The third-party candidate who hasn’t heard of Aleppo is the second-best candidate in the race.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Reince Preibus (Republican) wants the girl to smile more. When she's talking about ISIS and dead us soldiers.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Trumptu Dumptuy admires Putin because Putin can just arrest those investigating his illegal activities, whereas Trumpty needs to buy them off. So SAD!!

Trump #PamBondi
2 ( +3 / -1 )

Repubs now praising the Soviets and saying that they are superior to Americans? This is pure treason on the highest level. Back in Reagan's day, Commie traitors like Trump would be either shot or jailed. It's a shame the inferior Repub breed of today is an enemy of the US

2 ( +2 / -0 )

So then tell us your thoughts on Trump's admiration for Putin.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Dear Mr. Trump,

I would like to mention, that President Obama is the likely the more ethical leader. He has dealt with many issues of Americans of different (racial/ national origin) background than his, and successfully.

Please consult national security agencies regarding this.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I didn't get a chance to see it. Did Layer ask any questions about his health? That really concerns me. I don't want to elect a sick president.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Perhaps Mr T should consider relocating... and mind the door on the way out.

Trump should cool it with the Putin comments until after the election...

He really should, shouldn't he. But do you think he can, or will?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Putin “has very strong control over a country,” Trump said.

Well, Mr. Trump if you have governed United State of America like Russia President Putin governing in Russia and then you will be impeached within 7 days after you moved into White House.

@turbostat:

How are direct quotes from a neurologist and an internist "less than credible"?

Simple: Since they didn't actually examine her, they are merely speculating. Speculations are not facts, therefore, their "quotes" (sic) are not credible for saying that someone has "health issues."

@bass:

Fox News and infowars--two less than credible sources. Absolutely no bias on both sites, right?

That's like comparing ABC News to Howard Stern.

What? What is comparing ABC to Howard Stern? I'll take CNN over Fox News and The Chicago Tribune over Infowars when it comes to determining credibility.

In other words, let's refer to Liberal Unicornverse, Huffington Post, Thinkprogress, Daily Kos or The Guardian. Yeah, that's some real reliable source digging.

Those are your words, not mine. In the past, the only sources from that list that I have ever cited have been from the Guardian (which is far more credible than some of the dubious sources that you have come up with--namely Breitbart). Since you are wondering, I get most of my news from various sources: The Guardian, The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Reason Magazine, The Hightower Lowdown, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and The Scotsman--just to name a few. When I go to verify something, I try to find the same facts on multiple credible sources. If I can't, then I don't consider something a "fact." Check and verify-- I shouldn't have to tell a seasoned journalist this.

Trump is a jerk

Fox News and infowars--two less than credible sources. Absolutely no bias on both sites, right?

Instead of parroting right-wing websites that provide you "proof" of your agenda, you might want to consider fact-checking them and finding the same information from an actual reputable source.

Obama and Putin have different leadership styles and lead countries that are quite different. It is really difficult to compare (whether one likes Putin or not or Obama or not cast aside). This is really apples and oranges.

Ms. Clinton said, “It was a mistake to have a personal account. I would certainly not do it again. I make no excuses for it,” Clinton responded, stressing she had not improperly handled classified information.

I am glad she is owning up to her mistake but the information was in fact improperly handled if you follow the procedures required when you are given a security clearance, even for non SCI information. Do I think it disqualifies her from being our President, no. Would that, in and of itself, make me not choose her over Trump? No

However I think this is a pattern with Ms. Clinton. She is likely more capable than Trump in handling non domestic related issues however I do not trust her (and I certainly do not trust Trump either).

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

HRC said "It was a mistake to have a personal account. I would certainly not do it again. I make no excuses for it,” Clinton responded, stressing she had not improperly handled classified information.

HRC must be given credit for not saying she would take responsibility for this "mistake"; responsibility as in take some compensatory action. At this point in the campaign she wouldn't - nor be allowed to - drop out.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Trump should cool it with the Putin comments until after the election, as Hillary will just use them to justify her wrongdoings.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

dmacleod: Fox News and infowars--two less than credible sources.

How are direct quotes from a neurologist and an internist "less than credible"?

Fox and Infowars only transmitted the information. I found the quotes with Google, you want to blame Google, too?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

LFRAgain: Okay, Trump fans, spin this into something positive. Can't wait to read what bubbles to the surface.

One guy on a CNN panel today said Hillary had all kinds of praise for Putin when she and Obama tried the failed 'Russian reset', which the press has conveniently forgotten now.

And that it appears Obama is held immune from criticism.

The question isn't whether Putin is a better leader than Obama for the USA. It's whether he's a better leader for Russia than Obama is for the USA. It's natural to view the question in terms of foreign policy. Obama and Hillary have given us the rise of the "JV team" (Obama's words) ISIS, the Syrian refugee crisis, the Clinton-style DPRK-repeat appeasement in Iran.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_reset

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2014/sep/07/barack-obama/what-obama-said-about-islamic-state-jv-team/

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Going by his book at least General Flynn is also skeptical of Putin even welcoming cooperation with the US in fighting Radical Islam. Hopefully that will have more sway over Trump once elected than whatever he is saying now.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

dmacleod: More conspiracy theory "evidence" here which has been debunked: http://edition.cnn.com/2016/08/22/politics/hillary-clinton-health-conspiracy-theory-explained/index.html

Nice Hill-splainin'!!! But the only quotes in your article from the neurologist Dr. Gupta and the internist Dr. Siegel, on Hannity's segment, are that the Hillary head-shaking videos aren't enough to diagnose an ailment. From the actual transcript, Siegel in the same interview called for both candidates to release their health records and for an informed neurologist to hold a press conference on Hillary's neurological status. And both Siegel and Gupta in another interview called for both candidates to release their records.

What's unreasonable about that? They're applying with the electorate for a job, right? And I don't mean the summary record Obama released when he was up for election, and the summary statement Hillary's doctor has already released. This isn't the old days when ALL of the press would cover up the candidates' frailties.

http://www.foxnews.com/transcript/2016/08/10/hannity-time-for-all-republicans-to-get-on-board-with-trump-pence-trump-and/

SIEGEL: ... That's why a neurologist needs to come forward and give a press conference and say this is what is going on with her. She may very well be completely fit, but we want to know.

http://www.infowars.com/neurologist-hillarys-long-history-of-unexplained-falls-should-be-explained/

Neurologist Dr. Fiona Gupta concurred with Siegel that the release of the records was in the public interest. “Neurologically speaking…. for both candidates’s medical history, neurological history has to be transparent – this is a long and rigorous campaign,” said Gupta, adding that Clinton had a “long history of unexplained falls” that led to post-concussive syndrome.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Nice try, but I don't give anyone a pass including Trump.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I understand he's trying to appeal to the many headbangers who get off on watching missile footage on Fox blowing people to smithereens

They do that on CNN too.

To Mr Bum and Jimizo, I don't think I'm wrong. I think you're guided by your emotions. Trump says shit to get elected, just like Hillary. You should be able to discern this shit. I know Hillary is a hegomonic petrodollar warmonger. Trump, I don't know. But rolling the dice for him over a war pig is an easy decision.

Why does everyone get worked up about this comment? The insistence of the Hollywood style good vs bad shtick in political arena needs to meet a timely end. There are no enemies in politics only opportunities. Grow up!!

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Trump has points that need improvement fore sure but Hillary was a mess w/ regard to her emails, Libya, and snapping on Matt Lauer. I’d single one thing out but felt she was a mess the whole time. Defensive, unsmiling, angry, on foreign policy no less. She can debate well, however, based on what I saw with Bernie and Obama (not based on what I saw tonight) so when the real show starts he needs to be prepared with substantive policy answers.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

@LFRAgain

How about this: Obama's CIA supplied lackies in Syria are fighting against Obama's Department of Defense supplied lackies in Syria.

You can't make this shit up.

Where's the more important story about Assange's claim that Hillary DOES know what the "C" stands for? More MSM bs.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

@Jizmo

Alternative news sites and the MSM is all we have. I scan all of it.

I (the nature of the relationship between Trump and Putin) have no idea what you're talking about. I see you're just trying to be sarcastic. That's OK with me, but maybe not the Mods. LOL

With all the death and destruction that my US Presidents have caused for over the years, I hardly think Putin should be someone to compare to. But the MSM will, because they know what lemmings do.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

I wonder what your take is on Trump

I think Trump feels that war is bad for business. He's not in the same hegemonic globalist class like the Bush's, the Clinton's, and Obama. I think he truly cares about his country, where the above mentioned, only care about power. I'm guessing you'll disagree with this, but thats how I feel. I hope one day all the dope, TV, and all the other distractions humans are addicted to will become less important. I hope!

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Trump and Putin are going to kick the world's collective backside.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Watch it first. Even with an interviewer that allowed her to filibuster without answering and an earpiece to receive stealth coaching, she bombed.
