No wonder he has such disdain for science. No doubt his true believers will say he's (trigger warning: stupid cliche ahead) thinking way outside the box. But then some of them still think in the wayback penguins and polar bears marched in pairs to the middle east.

LOL! Stable genius!

You are welcome JT for giving you inspiration for your next article!

For the love of sanity, someone get a psychiatrist to do an assessment on this man.

21 ( +23 / -2 )

Par for the course.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Does a quote from a former Trump official suddenly sound a lot more accurate here?

"He has a fifth or six grade understanding of the world." "He is a danger to the Republic."

Just think, if you aged grandfather said one day, "I'm the chosen one"; I'm for payroll tax cuts, I'm not for payroll tax cuts"; "I think we should use nuclear weapons to stop hurricanes."

You'd be taking away his car keys and heading down to the local Alzheimer's center...

17 ( +19 / -2 )

His mind is gone. He needs to be watched 24/7.

17 ( +18 / -1 )

Maybe, he doesn't want another Sharknado on their hands!

Maybe, he doesn't want another Sharknado on their hands!

With the radioactivity the sharks in the tornado will probably mutate and start firing laser with their eyes... that's probably how discosharktornado starts...

An article on this topic laid out the physics involved to reduce a category 5 storm to category 2. In a nutshell, you'd need the most powerful hydrogen bomb in America's arsenal - several of them.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

He could save a lot of time and manpower hours at his numerous golf courses that way. I hereby declare to all groundskeepers--you fired!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Countries have been doing strange things to the atmosphere "in the name of science" for a long time. It's just the volume of Trump that upsets people.

Interesting, https://www.livescience.com/24383-can-you-stop-a-hurricane-by-nuking-it.html

@goldnugget

Interesting, https://www.livescience.com/24383-can-you-stop-a-hurricane-by-nuking-it.html

From the article that you provided:

Finally, whether the bomb would have a minor positive effect, a negative effect, or none at all on the storm's convection cycle, one thing is for sure: It would create a radioactive hurricane, which would be even worse than a normal one. The fallout would ride Trade Winds to land — arguably a worse outcome than a landfalling hurricane.

Just like Dump to find a way to make things worse. Before Dump leaves office, he will turn on the American people and find a way to screw everyone in the end!

15 ( +18 / -3 )

is this dummy even know how to think ? LUL they should just ban him from talking all time he is very ill and have mental issues also don't forget he's a big joke

14 ( +15 / -1 )

At least he's not using them on cities. Also another way of getting rid of nuclear warheads.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Gosh, I would have loved to be in that room during the briefing to see everyone's face after Moron in Chief made those statements. How does one not burst out in laughter?

14 ( +15 / -1 )

wow fake new has really popped its cork, just glad that JT hasn't gone that route. However the concept is not as backward as those who actually buy into it being a real true statement and actually believe it was said in that context. How does one not burst into laughter at that.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

It is reportedly not the first time the president made such a suggestion.

He had to be told NO twice?

Why not decree that hurricanes can’t make landfall? Or start nuking them so we can hear his supporters say, “At least he’s doing something!” when the fallout arrives.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Seems others have thought about it as well ver the years:

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2016/11/hurricanes-weather-history-nuclear-weapons/

Maybe trump recently saw sharknado?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

@Zichi

Radiation is such a bitch, just ask anyone in Chernobyl or Fukushima. So instead of raining water we'll have raining radiation. The world is still polluted from all the atomic bomb testing.

I completely agree with you, you also forgot to mention what the US. Did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

You want to know why Trump is president? Just look who is running against him. They actually make him look good. Any semi-competent candidate with good ideas is drummed out of the race or called a Russian agent or some such nonsense. Want a serious president? Get rid of the clowns and try to nominate one.

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

Can someone in America just come up to do a favour for the human race: Diagonsis the mentality condition and psychology of the incumbent P.OTUS! He is a dangerous man who holds tremendous power!

9 ( +9 / -0 )

They've really gotta stop him from talking..... This is just getting to be sad now.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Words fail me... is he actually insane?

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Can someone in America just come up to do a favour for the human race: Diagonsis the mentality condition and psychology of the incumbent P.OTUS! He is a dangerous man who holds tremendous power!

Trust me a lot of us Americans already know this it's just horrifying realizing the ones that don't

9 ( +9 / -0 )

@commanteer Just look who is running against him.

Sounds like another attack, perhaps just a lament from Trump’s defenders and/or Bannon's nihilists. I'll only mention communication skills, arguably one of the most important for any leader at any level. Most of the Democrats campaigning for the nomination are articulate, able to communicate basic ideas on a range of topics. That alone makes them superior to Trump.

@comanterAny semi-competent candidate with good ideas is drummed out of the race or called a Russian agent or some such nonsense.

Drummed out? Bit dramatic. Bernie got stiffed by the Democratic Party nabobs. Tulsi Gabbard, one favored by some and so far an interesting candidate, has to prove she's got it.

That many Trump defenders and nihilists still deny Russia meddled in the 2016 election - which helped Trump - says a lot about them and their beliefs.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@datestsushi: Trust me a lot of us Americans already know this it's just horrifying realizing the ones that don't

May God help us, the human race!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

What is even happening anymore? This sounds like something the Onion would write as a headline, not what a somewhat intelligent human being would say

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Perhaps in his mind, threatening to use nukes is just to scare the hurricanes, to prevent them from hitting the US.

I know this sounds crazy, but it's Trump we're talking about. Having said that, I'm still glad he beat Clinton...

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

What is even happening anymore? This sounds like something the Onion would write as a headline, not what a somewhat intelligent human being would say

I thought it was the plot to a Tromaville B-movie. Maybe Dump will the new nemesis fighting against the Toxic Avenger!

I know this sounds crazy, but it's Trump we're talking about. Having said that, I'm still glad he beat Clinton...

Then you don't really care about the US as a country because we would have been better off with Clinton as president. We would have also been better off with McCain or Romney as president.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Then you don't really care about the US as a country because we would have been better off with Clinton as president.

Naah, if Clinton had won, the US would have quickly gone to war with Russia...

So as crazy, stupid, and controlled by Israel Trump is, he's still better than Hillary.

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

It’s certainly a change from other crackpots on the US right who think hurricanes can be prevented by sexual abstinence.

Has Trump offered any opinions on earthquakes or tornadoes?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Nuking hurricanes! Need we any more proof? Chump is the ultimate ultracrepidarian. And no credit to the know nothings who voted for a ignoramus to represent the USA for the world's amusement and alarm.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

A timely reminder that 60 million US voters decided to give this guy the nuclear launch codes.

What did you get in return? Tax cuts for the upper crust? Conservative Supreme Court justices? Triggering some libs? Was it all really worth it?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Mr Trump, you mean it isn't enough to threaten the hurricanes with a nuke bomb or tariffs to deter them ?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

What a bonehead.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Will man one day create hurricanes and man made natural disasters as weapons of mass destruction?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

"During each hurricane season, there always appear suggestions that one should simply use nuclear weapons to try and destroy the storms," the NOAA said.

Since NOAA says this is a frequently suggested idea, why is it considered newsworthy when President Trump suggests it?

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Bomb a hurricane? Sure! Why not! What can possibly go wrong?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

He was just asking, he likes to get things done. A lot of people have thought about this possibility.

After all, we drilled a 700 foot hole into an asteroid and dropped a nuke into it, smashing it to smithereens before it hit us. OK, that hasn't been done yet, but we might still have to do it someday, that's why we can't ever have a nuke-free world.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

It does not bother me too much that he would ask that question, but it does indeed bother me that he is too dumb to understand the answer.

Hurricanes are tremendously powerful. The average hurricane has 200 times the total electrical generating capacity of all the electrical generating plants on Earth. During its lifetime, the average hurricane will generate as much energy as 10,000 nuclear bombs......and that is just an average hurricane, not a Katrina. A nuclear bomb will not disrupt a hurricane, because there are no nuclear bombs large enough to do so. They are capable of spreading radioactive waste over a vey large area, which is why the nations of the Earth very seldom do above ground nuclear testing any longer.

And, before the first sentence of this monologue was finished, Trump would have lost interest, and would understand no more than he did before the start of the conversation.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

@ToshiYori

Since NOAA says this is a frequently suggested idea, why is it considered newsworthy when President Trump suggests it?

It shows that the current leader who claims to be a stable genius of the #1 nuclear super power in the world is just as dump or ignorant as some of the people and children that suggest the same idea. Remember, he doesn't read. His min source of information is FoxNews (an Entertainment company) and Twitter. They don't use many sentences on Twitter. Should our leaders not be put to a higher standard?

I don't want a leader dumber or more ignorant than me! What about you?

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Fake " news" from Axios. "Anonymous source"

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

A lot of people have thought about this possibility.

But Trump is now denying he ever suggested such a bonehead idea. Would you like to change your stance now?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

According to an anonymous source

Oh.

A lot of people have thought about this possibility.

But Trump is now denying he ever suggested such a bonehead idea. Would you like to change your stance now?

Nope. No doubt a lot of people have indeed thought about this possibility. After all, we're all constantly told how powerful nuclear bombs are.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

@BlackFlagCitizen

Gosh, I would have loved to be in that room during the briefing to see everyone's face after Moron in Chief made those statements. How does one not burst out in laughter?

Maybe because he actually as the power to do it. I dont are american so i dont know your laws but if he actually order a nuclear strike in a hurricane can anyone stop him?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump needs to go back to picking skylights in hotels. You know, things that don't really matter.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Let's see: alt-left Axios, the Gladys Kravitz of the MSM, used an lone anonymous source and can't even nail down when the conversation took place.

Fake News.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

But Trump is now denying he ever suggested such a bonehead idea. Would you like to change your stance now?

Nope. No doubt a lot of people have indeed thought about this possibility. After all, we're all constantly told how powerful nuclear bombs are.

Well, what's that, six flip-flips this week?

Hey Donnie, Simone Biles called, she wants her leotard back....

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Surely he's using some sort of metaphor ... just as we say we're nuking the microwave meal...... no one in their right mind would Nuke a Tornado, just think of the contamination distribution and the subsequent Law suites that would be filed against the US from the nearby island nations. Trump's golf course would be quite literally toxic.

Now if he said, what was needed was super large vacuum cleaner to suck these Hurricanes into outer space...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As long as Trump is ejected along with the nuke (preferably holding it) from the plane flying overhead, the global weather would clear up very quickly. Before he goes up to save the world he could hold a rare press conference and say that Obama would never do such a thing.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Fake News.

Ah, the usual fallback position of Trumpbots everywhere - if it makes Drumpf out to be a loony it must be fake news.

Well, he is a loony (a big loony), no mistake. Bigliest loony... everyone thinks so... well, everyone with half a brain!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Always been talk of bombing hurricanes here to break them up. Which will cause more damage, bombing them or letting them run their course? Nature creates hurricanes for a reason. Know how the name hurricane came about. The Caribbean islands grew sugar cane centuries ago and when a powerful storm was approaching the boss would tell workers to ' hurry up harvesting sugar cane.' Hurricane is a shortened version of that statement.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

wow fake new has really popped its cork, just glad that JT hasn't gone that route.

POTUS said it. That makes it news. Someone smart would have learned that they cannot tell 50 jokes a day about world events within a few days in office. That's assuming it was a joke, which I doubt based on all the other less-than-great ideas that come from his mouth and tweets.

Trump doesn't have a filter between his mouth and his brain - you know, like most people over 10 yrs old learn to use.

At his age, when people say the things he says in public, they would be taken to multiple doctors by their family to get the dementia disorder diagnosed. Wouldn't you like to help him to get the help he clearly needs?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

used an lone anonymous source and can't even nail down when the conversation took place.

The suggestion reportedly came during a hurricane briefing with senior Homeland Security and national security officials at the White House.

Axois did not name the source but said they were in the room when the President raised the idea.

"I got it. I got it. Why don't we nuke them?" the source said, paraphrasing Mr Trump.

"They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they're moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it."

The source told Axios the person briefing the President said he would "look into that", with the suggestion astonishing those in the room.

Mr Trump brought up the hurricane-nuking idea a second time with a senior official, an exchange which the Axios report said was recorded in a 2017 National Security Council memo.

The White House declined to comment on the Axios story, with an official telling the outlet the government did not comment on the President's private discussions.

Another unnamed source told Axios the idea was no cause for alarm and showed the US leader was willing to "ask tough questions".

1 ( +2 / -1 )

As insane as this sounds this would actually solve a tornado or two. But the aftereffects would be so devastating people would wish it was wind ruining their homes.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Like the Peace prize, the self proclaimed "genius" will not be receiving any science related awards either

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The Caribbean islands grew sugar cane centuries ago and when a powerful storm was approaching the boss would tell workers to ' hurry up harvesting sugar cane.' Hurricane is a shortened version of that statement.

This really has to be one of the more foolish statements made on this board, including the borderline racism involved.

The English word hurricane comes from the Spanish huracan, which derived from the Taino (a Caribbean native people) language word jurakan, which means 'god of the storm.'

Is this sort of racialized backtomolgy really what passes for education in certain parts of the world?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Anonymous source? Surely a reporter could do better than that. No follow up confirmation. Why publish fantasy coming from a reporters mind?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Oh come one people. A report from a little known left wing news site citing an 'anonymous source' and you all fall for it?

Trump says enough verifiable stupid things. Running with garbage like this just supports 'fake news'.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Back in the 50s and 60s they wanted to Nuke everything and tried to also. They lit off nukes high atmosphere just to see how it might effect Magnetosphere. They also planned on building a new Panama canal by Nuking across the continent. Really ! look this up SCIENTISTS !!! Well I think this is why cancel so prevalent today. and those Nuclear power plants ? they cost more to build than they will ever save in electric production . But behind scenes they get funded from taxpayers and usually have cost overruns 20-50x. The money goes into pockets just like stadium buildings

2 ( +2 / -0 )

A report from a little known left wing news site citing an 'anonymous source' and you all fall for it?

Actually, for all of those stating that Axios is 'far left' or 'alt left' or 'left wing,' the main bias check websites both rate Axios as either center or just slightly left of center:

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/axios/

https://www.allsides.com/news-source/axios

Also, both state that Axios has NEVER failed a fact check, and that any bias comes from choice of stories reported rather than the actual facts within the stories themselves. They don't even use loaded words.

So in other words, Donnie can say it's 'fake news,' but the reporting body that did it has a flawless track record on reporting their stories correctly.

No doubt they have. I doubt if very many have actually said anything about it to anyone else though.

The question here, of course, is not whether donnie actually suggested nuking hurricanes but that such IDIOCY is so EASY to BELIEVE about this guy. And if you thought, even for an instant, "Hey! Let's try that!", ... well ... I'll get censored if I continue on here in any kind of appropriate way...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

If Trump is as crazy, paranoid, unstable and demented as you all believe, wouldn't he have nuked China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Mexico and any country he doesn't like by now? And nuked any blue city he didn't like either?

But he didn't.

Trump has already proven himself crazy, paranoid, unstable and demented. It’s already been shown. We don’t need additional insanity to shore it up. It’s already been confirmed.

If Trump is as crazy, paranoid, unstable and demented as you all believe, wouldn't he have nuked China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Mexico and any country he doesn't like by now? And nuked any blue city he didn't like either?

Are you suggesting that the US doesn't have any safeguards against such a scenario?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Also, both state that Axios has NEVER failed a fact check, and that any bias comes from choice of stories reported rather than the actual facts within the stories themselves. They don't even use loaded words.

Kinda hard to fact check a news report centered on information from an 'anonymous source'...

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Every such source would be anonymous. Else they would be removed from the "inside" of things and stop being a source altogether. But F for the Effort, as usual.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Kinda hard to fact check a news report centered on information from an 'anonymous source'...

That's correct. That's why in such a situation, you need to look at the credibility of the person, to determine whether or not their claims should be believed. To do this, you look back at their past claims. Have their other anonymous sources turned out to be correct? Have the people making the claim previously made claims that were found to be incorrect? Do they only use anonymous sources? Etc...

The idea that anonymous sources should not be reported upon is silly. Anonymity is important to ensuring information can be reported upon. However, there is a set of ethics that comes along with using anonymous sources. Reporters need to be extremely diligent to confirm the information reported, because if it is found out afterwards that their anonymous source was incorrect, it kills their credibility in the future, and no one will believe claims from their anonymous sources.

Do you have something in particular to show that this organization has been using anonymous sources that made claims later shown to be false?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The problem is not that he would ask the question; the problem is that he does not understand the answer.

Dear Americans,

It is time to exercise your 25th amendment rights.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

To an outsider, every time Trump opens his mouth you automatically think that half of Americans are stupid. Oh, hang on...... I forgot that they elected him.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Of course nuking a hurricane will be ineffective: what you need is a series of giant fans to blow them away.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Stewie: "To an outsider, every time Trump opens his mouth you automatically think that half of Americans are stupid. Oh, hang on...... I forgot that they elected him."

Well, despite Trump lately, yet again, claiming... what 18 million illegal votes? because of Google? he was not actually voted in based on the popular vote. So, no, we only think about 40% of Americans are stupid.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Amazing how Trumpists will go along with every crazy statment their leader makes. Just to get one over the liberals and be all patriotic, like.

Scientists: Cutting down on meat consumption, like cows, will help save the climate. Less methane, less tree falling, more oxygen levels.

Trumpists: You'll never take my giant mac! I'm going to eat even more burgers now, just to show you, liberals!

Scientists: Exploding nuclear weapons in the atmosphere (or anywhere on Earth) is not good for the planet. Fallout, nuclear winters, raised levels of cancers, unpredictable weather fronts etc.

Trumpists: C'mon Mr. President, let's show those liberals - launch the nukes. Launch the nuuuuuukes!

Probably because we all know that the media on this one is really full of crap, so there’s no reason to address it, but it is funny, I sure did get a good chuckle out of it.
