Yet again, Trump shows that he has no economic understand whatsoever. Raising tariffs to replace the U.S. income tax is such a stupid idea.

The tariffs are paid for by the importers, so you are just taxing anyone who wants to buy the imported products.

10 ( +20 / -10 )

"There's tremendous unity in the Republican Party," Trump said after the Senate meeting.“

Huh?!

That’s not what anybody paying even the slightest attention has seen.

10 ( +16 / -6 )

The tariffs are paid for by the importers, so you are just taxing anyone who wants to buy the imported products.

Or people would switch to American made goods, which would then mean taxes are being paid to maintain roads and infrastructure.

We can clearly see though, how Trump would run the country like his businesses- into the ground.

10 ( +17 / -7 )

"After inciting a deadly insurrection that defiled the halls of Congress, how dare Trump show his face on these grounds?" Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson said in a statement.

Unfortunately it is because Trump exerts absolute control over one party in the American duopoly. It is a clear and present danger.

Donald Trump criticized U.S. aid to Ukraine and suggested raising tariffs to replace the U.S. income tax on a Thursday visit to Capitol Hill where he also called the city hosting his party's presidential convention "horrible."

There are better odds that like in 2016 with Trump's 'taking on Wall Street finance' and in 2017 with the so-called Tax and Jobs Act, cutting the income tax will either not happen or morph into just a massive tax break for corporations and the wealthy, hurting the middle class.

On the House floor, yes, but as party as a whole, they are, he even buried the hatchet with Mitch. So good to see him and former foes coming home, this is bigger than one man. It’s about the nation.

-20 ( +2 / -22 )

News Flash: tarrifs on that level are inflationary. Massive additional tax cuts are inflationary (and increase debt, cough cough).

Yet more evidence, as if any more were needed, that Trump knows as much about macroeconomics as he knows about business or nuclear physics; which is to say not one damn thing.

13 ( +16 / -3 )

This Trump idea would shift costs onto US consumers and give tax breaks to the US wealthy class.

Republican gold.

13 ( +18 / -5 )

On the House floor, yes, but as party as a whole, they are, he even buried the hatchet with Mitch. So good to see him and former foes coming home, this is bigger than one man. It’s about the nation.

The House floor is where things get done. You know, for the nation. They have achieved absolutely nothing under 2 speakers, focusing instead on petty intra-party squabbling.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Oh, and trashing your host city….

Not the most well thought out plan.

But what else would one expect from a narcissistic sociopath, at least a stupid one?

11 ( +14 / -3 )

News Flash: tarrifs on that level are inflationary. Massive additional tax cuts are inflationary (and increase debt, cough cough).

Hardly, massive tax cuts will give incentive for people to spend, which is what you want and need for money to go back into the economy. $20 for a Big Mac and when it gets to the point where junk food has become a luxury item for the average person, you have a serious problem. Now I have never met a Dem that didn’t like a tax hike, but this is also why people can’t run away from the West Coast and parts of the East Coast fast enough.

Yet more evidence, as if any more were needed, that Trump knows as much about macroeconomics as he knows about business

More than the government taxpayer funded paid Democrats do.

or nuclear physics; which is to say not one damn thing.

Not even the Dems know it, case in point, Russia and Ukraine.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

The House floor is where things get done. You know, for the nation.

You mean, voting on Senate bills that don’t do anything for Americans, oh, the horror.

They have achieved absolutely nothing under 2 speakers, focusing instead on petty intra-party squabbling.

Thank God! I’m so happy that these Republicans are not the typical old-style rubber stamping whatever comes across their desks nimrods.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

"If there was something we could do to really energize that particular segment of the population, that might be a real popular thing to do," Rounds told reporters.

Popular but stupid. It will incentivize businesses to lower wages and add massively to the deficit.

These lemmings hanging on Trump’s every word reminds me of those govt officials following Kim Jong Un around with little notebooks, dutifully recording every word their dear leader says.

The tariffs idea is even dumber.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Leftists telling us what “would” happen.

as if Trump hadn’t already been President for 4 years with cheaper consumer prices, lower taxes, America first, border security, no wars and under 2% inflation.

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

how dare Trump show his face on these grounds?" Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson said in a statement.

somebody gonna cry bigly when Trump gets “sentenced” by the people to 4 years of community service in the Oval Office.

Ohh, you’re just angry that everyone is listening to common sense finally and that that everything the Dems are throwing at this guy is just failing.

The tariffs idea is even dumber.

For Dems it is…it always is.

This is a news story. Trump dissed Milwaukee because of its crime and “voter fraud”.

There are 24 positive news story this morning dealing with Trump and conservatives, so the left want to focus on just one story that may or may not favor them,

Voters deserve to know how stupid, narcissistic, and fascistic the candidate is.

Amen, Plastic!!! Now we finally, finally agree on something. ROFL!

And economists.

And economists.

??

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

??

Economist, Bass. Before you turned into your typical "Well that's Democrats" nonsense, 2020 correctly pointed out how Trump's plan to levy tariffs on all imported goods would raise praises (i.e. cause inflation) and makes little economic sense. Funny how maga fans can't actually engage with that. Are they too embarrassed by this plan or do they just not understand economics?

as if Trump hadn’t already been President for 4 years with cheaper consumer prices, lower taxes, America first, border security, no wars and under 2% inflation

1 million dead Americans, massive mistrust of public health as a result of disinformation, more jobs lost than any president in history, a pointless wall that he didn’t build and Mexico didn’t pay for, lower taxes on the top 1%, more addition debt than any president in history, Oh and an attempted coup.

Yes we already know what Trump’s “administration” was like.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Leftists telling us what “would” happen.

Well yeah, it makes sense to talk what would happen if Trump were president and got rid of taxes and replaced them with tariffs.

as if Trump hadn’t already been President for 4 years with cheaper consumer prices, lower taxes, America first, border security, no wars and under 2% inflation.

Canned, nonsense talking points. Trump was so "successful" in his first term, the American people voted him out.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

somebody gonna cry bigly

That's the heart and soul of MAGA. Good on you.

What do you think about replacing the income tax with tariffs?

No, I just see how California and NYC turned out. I left so that makes me economically a genius because I don’t have to pay Gavin’s rape tax Socialist policies.

We pay most of the taxes altogether anyway, how much more is enough. The Blue states are driving the rich out. When McDonald’s is contemplating on possibly leaving the largest blue state in the Union you know you have a serious dilemma.

more addition debt than any president in history, Oh and an attempted coup.

Now the left is just digging and not dealing with reality…smh…

Yes we already know what Trump’s “administration” was like.

Yes, so does everyone else, that’s why Biden is eating his dust in all the polls.

Completely and utterly irrelevant. You see, MAGA fans know nothing about economics and can't defend Trump's silly economic policies.

Trump floated the idea of reducing the U.S. income tax and replacing it with tariffs, said Representatives Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Conservative source, Forbes, the Trump tax cuts did not help workers and the middle class and resulted in ballooning wealth for the .001% and corporate stock buybacks with no boosts to wages and productivity.

Given at his last two rallies and speeches, he said how great it was being in Dallas Texas - when he was speaking in Phoenix Arizona, and then had a 35 second "space-out" at his NRA speech....this has to be considered an improvement...

All he did was confirm for Americans that Repubs are great at crashing the economy and causing international financial meltdowns - as in 2007...

And once again, the Repubs play their crowd for suckers with their "tax breaks for the Top 1%"....giving them billions while the Average MAGA-Joe saves maybe $50 a year...which he then contributes to Trump's losing lawyers fund...(except for Rudy)...

The Failed Foolish Felon is melting down before our eyes...along with his ever more desperate supporters...

Democrats should not still be obsessing about 6 Jan. Positive, popular policies rack up more votes. They really don't have much margin for error this time round. It is harder to retain votes after being in power than to generate them in opposition.

Living in Japan, and inflation is also up here. Same in Europe. It's silly to blame this on Biden, but knock yourself out.

it’s even now still almost double the Trump years.

Yes, thanks to the 0 interest rate, and the botched COVID response.

Things were so great during the Trump years the American people voted him out.

it’s a new topic to me, would need to hear more before forming an opinion.

Nope...don't you trust Fox News?

"The new GOP tax plan delivers a big tax cut to the wealthiest Americans while some in lower tax brackets would end up paying more, according to an analysis Friday from prominent nonpartisan researchers.

The plan being touted by President Donald Trump as the biggest tax cut ever delivers 50 percent of its total tax benefit to taxpayers in the top 1 percent, those with incomes above $730,000 a year, according to the Tax Policy Center of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution. For those wealthy taxpayers, their after-tax incomes would increase 8.5 percent next year.

For other taxpayers, though, the benefits are far more modest or non-existent, the report finds. Taxpayers in the bottom 95 percent would see tax cuts averaging 1.2 percent of after-tax income or less next year."

and corporate stock buybacks with no boosts to wages and productivity.

Gavin, are you hearing this?

The data proves it. Full stop.

Yup!

Trump’s plan would lower corporate tax rates to 15% from the current 35%. It would also reduce the business income rates paid by the so-called pass-through businesses – including many small businesses formed as partnerships and limited liability companies and some larger entities like hedge funds – to 15%. These businesses’ incomes are “passed through” to owners, who then pay taxes based on the individual income rates, ranging from 10% to 39.6%.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

tax breaks for the Top 1%"..

you actually meant no taxes on tips for the service industry, right?

So no taxes on income for workers who just “Happen” to be in the felon’s target demo, but the rest of us just go on paying taxes on all of our income?

That doesn’t sound very fiscally responsible. So much for debt reduction, eh?

Oh, because it’s not.

It’s pandering and also ignores the fact that it would need to pass both Houses of Congress.

Trump knows this. He knows it won’t pass. So he’s lying for votes.

In other words, on-brand.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Well all things considered, i guess the MAGA-crowd is happy with this speech....

He didn't use a single "Ding" or "Bing" describing his tariff plan...

He didn't insult the crowd by saying "I don't care about you, I just want your vote"...

He didn't say "life begins at conception" but I'm OK with killing babies until the 15th week...

He didn't pick Hannibal Lector as his running mate...

That doesn’t sound very fiscally responsible. So much for debt reduction, eh?

Look at California and New York, no one told the liberals to spend and tax people into obscurity.

Oh, because it’s not.

Well, the left keeps taxing more and more and more. A McDonald’s working making $15 and hour? That’s just crazy?

It’s pandering

You mean like trying to wipe out student loan debt with the hopes of attracting voters?

and also ignores the fact that it would need to pass both Houses of Congress.

Precisely, so why is the left quiet on what Joe continues to do. Not sure about you, I don’t want to pay for someone else’s financial responsibility or lack of…

Trump knows this.

Biden does as well and yet…

He knows it won’t pass. So he’s lying for votes.

It didn’t hurt Biden

In other words, on-brand.

Just like Joe.

Donald Trump criticized U.S. aid to Ukraine and suggested raising tariffs to replace the U.S. income tax on a Thursday visit to Capitol Hill where he also called the city hosting his party's presidential convention "horrible."

Talk about "on-brand", this is SO MAGA....reports claim Trump called host Repub Convention city "horrible"....and all the MAGA Repubs go out and scream "Lie - Trump never said that!"....

And then Trump comes out later and ADMITS it...“It was very clear what I meant,” Trump told Fox News’s Aishah Hasnie. “I said, we’re very concerned with crime. I love Milwaukee, I have great friends in Milwaukee, but it’s, as you know, the crime numbers are terrible. We have to be very careful.”

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-weighs-milwaukee-flub-somehow-203824355.html

Trump may be on to something - given the convention host is a convicted 34-count felon, and the rest of the Repub entourage is full of fellow felons, indicted idiots, and pardoned putzes, Milwaukee should be worried about an influx of crime...

President Trump was responding directly to my question about the lack of ELECTION INTEGRITY by election officials in certain US cities including Milwaukee. President Trump made no derogatory remarks about the great citizens and communities in those cities.

Much like New Yorkers, Wisconsinites are fed up with violent crime and rampant voter fraud.

Democrats know the voters are on our side, so they’re trying to twist President Trump’s words.
