Well that is rich. Trump getting mad at someone for hurling insults and lying about stuff for political gain?

7 ( +11 / -4 )

“Hilary Clinton is a totally unstable individual. She is the single biggest liar I’ve ever come across, in politics or otherwise, and I have seen some of the best of them. Her statements are totally untrue and completely outrageous,” I said in my statement to the American people.

Cruz or Trump. Is this really the best republican America has to offer? Both of them are a dangerous joke to the civilised world.

14 ( +18 / -4 )

If Trump sues Cruz that would be just awesome.

15 ( +16 / -1 )

Trump won't do it.

There is a risk that a court will say yes he is eligible to run for president.

Or, Trump knows the probable result, but he just wants to instigate uncertainty in Cruz while the case is being heard.

I wish the U.S. would do away with its 2-year presidential campaign, have no primaries or electoral votes. The current mud-slinging is a disgrace to the U.S. Let each party hold a convention in July or August, pick the candidate and running mate and then have a short 3-month campaign with the election on a weekend instead of a Tuesday. The parliamentary system of government - with all its many faults - is much better, in my opinion.

3 ( +5 / -3 )

I sense a meltdown, if this wasn't so serious & dangerous it wud be outrageously funny as opposed to being rather scary!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Threatening to file lawsuits is his stock in trade. Bill Maher was sued for $5,000,000 after saying that Trump's father was an orangutan. Look how that worked out for Trump...

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Ironically, Scalia, as a Constitutional originalist, would have been Trump's biggest ally on the Supreme Court.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Even if Cruz issued an apology, it wouldn't be sincere.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

With Scalia gone and the Supreme Court now having a 4-4 split, this would be a great time for Trump to bring the citizenship case against Cruz, who has attacked Chief Justice Roberts. Kennedy is a swing vote, Thomas says nothing, and Roberts would have no love for Cruz. That leaves just Alito on the right to argue on behalf of Cruz. So Cruz could lose 5-3 or 6-2, unless he could depend on 2 or 3 of the liberal justices to support him.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

If Cruz wants to prove he has any form or resemblance of a backbone politically, l he is going to have to prove the point and call Trump the New York City born wind instruments bluff.

Trumpet has proved he needs others do the dirty work for him, if you need to call on the judiciary as a candidate for political office, you are a spineless fool incapable of fulfilling your role.

And this best it gets is Clinton and Sanders!!!! Beijing and Moscow can't believe there luck.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Trump's a master at grabbing the headlines. He does the same thing over and over, again and again.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So Republicans want to hold out on the Supreme Court nomination so one of these guys can choose? That's going to be a fun and awkward sales pitch.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@Brainiac - It'll never happen ! It makes too much sense !

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Nothing says, "I'm a red-blooded all American guy who wants the support of other red-blooded all-Americans" like, "I have a disagreement with you I want to solve by threatening legal action."

Trump's done. The only question is how much free ammunition he'll generate for the Democrats before he realizes it.

rainyday: "Well that is rich. Trump getting mad at someone for hurling insults and lying about stuff for political gain?"

Very true that it's funny, but the fact of the matter is Cruz has committed slander and libel on numerous occasions, knowing full well they are lies. He's not the first politician to do it by any means, but he has gone above and beyond with the obviousness of it -- so much so that even the GOP moderators called him up on it, and the Senate has told him to shut up.

I hope Trump does it. I've no doubt it would get thrown out simply because Cruz is a contender for the presidency, but it would be fun. I hope he adds the birther issue to the list of things he's suing for as well; at least Trump is consistent on the issue while Cruz has suddenly become silent on it.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Is he going to be like this during his presidency?

Always remember that others may hate you but those who hate you don’t win unless you hate them. And then you destroy yourself. Nixon

REPUBLICAN CIRCUS!!

Oh how I love to see and read the establishment panicking.

Some food for thought:

First: Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz was born in Calgary, Canada, to a mother who was an American citizen. His father, a Cuban, didn't become a naturalized American citizen, however, until...2005. (Three years after Ted Cruz's birth, Cruz's father became not an American, but a Canadian citizen.)

Second: Many Canadian legal experts have concluded that Ted Cruz has dual American/Canadian citizenship. "He’s a Canadian,” said Toronto lawyer Stephen Green, past chairman of the Canadian Bar Association’s Citizenship and Immigration Section. "He could legally apply for a Canadian passport if he wanted to."

Third: The Constitution of the United States, Article 2, Section 1, Article 5, states: "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President...."

Fourth: According to Wikipedia references: "The consensus of early 21st-century (US) constitutional scholars, together with relevant case law, is that natural-born citizens include, subject to exceptions, those born in the United States."

Fifth: According to founding father Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist Papers, the Natural Born Citizen clause "was intended to protect the nation from foreign influence." (I'm lookin' at you, Canada!)

Sixth: Every president to date was either a citizen at the adoption of the Constitution in 1789 or born in the actual United States; of those in the latter group, every president except two had two U.S.-citizen parents (the exceptions being Chester Allen Arthur and...Barack Hussein Obama.)

Seventh and Last: "Several lower courts have already ruled that private citizens do not have standing to challenge the eligibility of candidates to appear on a presidential election ballot." (Meaning: Donald Trump in the end has no legal standing to personally challenge Ted Cruz's eligibility to be American President.)

Conclusions: If Trump wants to do it, he should launch a lawsuit. It's good for at least a couple of news cycles (and yet more free publicity.) If Ted Cruz were ever to become the GOP nominee, you can be sure that some Democrats would do the exact same thing as well. And as for the Trump bashers out there, you should be happy since this will actually damage his relations with "American citizens" who weren't born in the US or whose parents weren't citizens at their birth, but still don't want to feel like second-class citizens in their "home country," right?

Still, Point Seven above leads me to believe that even if Trump did it, it would soon be dismissed by a lower court.

The best news conference I've ever seen. Trump is relentless. He took on Bush the RNC and Cruz all in one press conference. I wouldn’t want to be Cruz right now. I really wouldn’t. He opened up a can of worms. And the media keeps giving him air time do to it.

Eight...GO! Trump!

We're tired of the meritocracy. Finally a leader who knows what he's doing and stops pandering to K Street.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

The Republican party seems to be imploding. It looks quite different from when I studied in the states in the late 90s.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Trump is tanning the backsides of this 'strong field' ( one poster actually wrote that ). Then again, I wouldn't gush too excitedly about the genius of Trump for bashing Cruz as slimy, dishonest and untrustworthy. It's not that hard, is it?

Show me the person who can make Cruz look and sound even slightly less repulsive and I'll be impressed.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Lizz: I wouldn’t want to be Cruz right now. I really wouldn’t. He opened up a can of worms. And the media keeps giving him air time do to it.

Cruz is a slimeball that deserves everything he gets. Trump is doing a marvellous job of destroying the Insane Party. He should be awarded a Nobel prize once he's assured a Democrat continues after Mr Obama's fine work,

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Trump has previously said a federal court should decide whether Cruz meets the constitutional requirement of being a “natural-born citizen” to serve as president.

Not being American myself but having heard of Mr Trump's hate for all "foreigners" I'm just curious to know which tribe he's from : Apache ? Cherokee ? Cheyenne ?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This is just getting ridiculous. Trump has been surrounded by immigrants his entire life, starting from with his mother and grandfather from the very beginning and continuing to two of his wives. You can call him an inexcusable hypocrite now since a significant percentage of his company’s hotels and major real estate properties are located abroad.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/sen-ted-cruz-uses-45th-birthday-to-fundraise/

Ted Cruz sent out $45 checks for people to sign for his 45 for 45 birthday/president fundraiser. A neat concept, but kind of shady.

-Enter Your Politician Here- is a totally unstable individual. He/She is the single biggest liar I’ve ever come across, in politics or otherwise, and I have seen some of the best of them. His/Her statements are totally untrue and completely outrageous,”

South Carolina — " Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday offered rival Ted Cruz an ultimatum, threatening to sue Cruz over his eligibility to serve in the White House unless the Texas senator stops airing what Trump calls “false ads” and apologizes for what the billionaire real estate mogul called a series of lies about his positions" - article

With the GOP ShiaTea? It is always about themselves.

Once again, it is never about the American People.

Trump is playing a duplicitous game of blackmail.

Either Trump is serious about his challenge or he is just as obstructionist as the GOP ShiaTea.

Either it is about the American People or it's about Trump.

Either it's a real challenge or it's a rich old man shouting in the deli about cold soup.

Meanwhile, though, I really think a Mixed Martial Arts match between Trump and Cruz would be the way to go for maximum entertainment

Climbing For Dollars like in the film The Running man would be funnier. With really really hungry Dobermans.

Didn't even read the article because this isn't news. Trump ALWAYS threatens to sic his lawyers on anyone who says something about him he doesn't like. Makes you wonder what he would try to do if he ever sat in the Oval Office, where the majority of the WORLD will be saying nasty things about him. You can't sue the world, Donnie. As rich as you are, the world is richer. The world will buy out all your properties, then sue you until all those profits on the sales leave your bank accounts and are given to your lawyers.

A U.S. President in these times needs, most of all, a very thick skin. Donnie's skin is so thin it's translucent.

How will be Republican nomination if Trump was not there?!God damn boring.Trump is amusing, funny, interesting.Who else can attract attention and eye catching but Trump?!Republican should appreciate and celebrate Trump-if not awarding him-as the only one who succeeded to remind Americans and drew their attention to an existed party called Republic party, isnt it enough good reason to vote him as Republican nominee?!

And there's the problem. A nation's leader is not there to entertain the public. The Republicans in this country seem to have forgotten that.

There is that tell tale orange cast. Some say that's in the inner core of bigotry shining through.

(Just like the Trump-ernauts on their rocket ship ride to The White House. Whee!)

Well said, Fadamor! "Trump is entertaining," is right up there with "(George W.) Bush was a regular guy I could have a beer with" in the list of things that no one who genuinely cares about politics should ever say, but for some reason get (got) said all the time.

Next he'll threaten to sue ISIS.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump is playing a duplicitous game of blackmail.

He is just waiting to see if Cruz still has standing as a viable candidate after getting blown out in South Carolina, which I doubt. Although I also think that s lawyer for Sanders has already gotten the party started by filing a suit in Houston. And there’s the rest of today, all day Thursday, all day Friday, and during the primary all day Saturday.

This might become interesting before the week is through. :D

Stupid move on Trump's part. Republican macho men think suing is for pussies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is going to set Cruz on overload. Ted Cruz is no Carson, (who has to be the most docile of the bunch.)

Cruz, as Stephen King observes, is unelectable and "scary". (same could be said of Trump.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump threatens to sue Cruz unless he apologizes

Please Trump - stop with these stupid threats to sue people that upset you. The existing tide of frivolous lawsuits has already damaged America tremendously as it is.
