The soft bigotry of low expectations comes to the rescue once again.

What's a soft bigot? Would that include the Democratic Party or Duke or Byrd as well? These people were soft spoken as well.

On the bright side, Trump didn't say anything too barbarous, which is being hailed by Republicans as Trump acting "presidential."

The soft bigotry of low expectations comes to the rescue once again.

Trump is incredibly reviled throughout Mexico, so this couild help Nieto. Trump blustering to Nieto may shore up his....flagging support from white nationalist...?

Judging from the recent polls, the gap is narrowing...Uh-oh!

"This proves he's not a racist. On top of eating a taco bowl, he went to Mexico!".

Both Nieto and Trump are polling poorly. I won't be surprised if both make a big show about standing up to the other in the hope of improving their numbers.

Mr. Trump should be "deported" from Mexico ... and sent the bill.

My guess is that he's going to go softer on immigration. He will try to get some kind of positive statement from Nieto and combine that with a speech that drops a lot of the negative rhetoric.

On the flip side he will also leave himself some wiggle room by being vague. Get ready for more statements about "tracking" without much in terms of specifics.

In short, we probably won't be much closer to a coherent platform. Just my prediction, and I could be wrong.

Trump just wants to tell the Mexicans how much the wall is going to cost them.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

At least he is going. I think Ms. Clinton should do the same.

I would like both of them to ask why Mexico is specifically issuing transit visas for migrants from Africa and the Middle East with the specific objective of allowing these people to reach the U.S. border

https://www.yahoo.com/news/mexico-issues-transit-visas-surge-african-migrants-220640035.html

If this is the case why does Mexico not chip in and offer asylum to some of these people?

However....I do not think Trump or Ms. Clinton will bring this issue up

WOW a real President go Trump

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

You do understand that he is just meeting with the Mexican President (who extended his desire to meet with all of the potential U.S. presidential candidates several months ago). The meeting will not be broadcast on Mexican TV. Trump will not be making any speeches, holding any fundraisers, kissing any babies, or mingling with the general public in Mexico, so I am not sure where you are getting the idea that maybe the Mexicans "DO" want to hear what he has to say.

Doesn't have to, the main thing is, that there is a meeting and establishing some sort of rapport. Kudos.

Trump's popularity with Republican Hispanics is reflected in the number of resignations from the RNC by Hispanics.

Maybe not with establishment Republican Hispanics but they love him on the border, at least border counties in Texas.

I think liberals are upset that the Mexicans DO want to hear what he has to say, progress in action! Go Trump!

I heard Trump supporters were furious about a rumour Trump may speak some Mexican on the trip.

Tijuana flip-flops

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Wonder how much of a fool he can make of himself while in Mexico! Even when you think he couldn't say anything more offensive than he already has, he continues to surprise!

He's looking for an authentic taco bowl photo opportunity to substantiate his Latino credibility.

Putting in an order for more shirts no doubt. Or was it the ties that are made in Mexico ? 1/20/17 - "Madame President" !

People who are supporting Trump's "building the wall and Mexico will pay for it" campaign promise are very nervous.

For one, it looks like he's pandering to a foreign leader, which is not something they expected to see from him.

And second, they're nervous because why be a guest there unless ya have something to offer the host? He may come out of there and suddenly there's no more wall. Or if there's still a wall, Mexico won't be the one paying for it - it'll be the US taxpayers with that burden.

But Trump needs the help of more Hispanics. Current polls show he may become the first Republican candidate in 6 decades not to win the majority of white college-educated voters.

Trump: Pay for the wall.

Pena Nieto: No.

Trump: Okay - how 'bout you pay for your side only?

Pena Nieto: No.

Trump: Okay. One pee-pee touch?

Never go into a negotiation when you have no leverage.

Can we expect more flip-flops?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Suddenly Mexico pays for the wall. ... to keep Trump out

4 ( +4 / -0 )

He's probably just going to solicit more campaign contributions.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Maybe he'll turn on the Trump charm and schmooze his way into an endorsement from the sitting Mexican president.

Or maybe a cartel hit (or staged hit) will take place and his understudy will step up.

(N.B. I am not associated in any way with any cartel member, nor am I encouraging any such action.)

Trump's popularity with Republican Hispanics is reflected in the number of resignations from the RNC by Hispanics. The director of Hispanic relations is leaving because she finds Trump repugnant and that is only the latest in a line of Hispanics marching out the door of GOP headquarters. It's inconceivable he is doing better with Latinos. He will do below 20 percent unless something changes drastically.

Word got to Trump that The Wall has already been paid for, and all he needs to do is fly in to pick it up.

The iconic Pink Floyd t-shirt is what Trump had his heart set on, no?

I can understand why Pena Nieto would like to talk with Trump, but I cannot understand why the latter would like to talk with the former. You'd they could meet online - it would look like this, with Trump as the director. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bpq8PHcAb6Y

I wonder if his purpose is to try to secure an agreement to pay for "the wall".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Or, he'll come back to announce support from the sitting President of Mexico.

One major area I disagree with Trump over is the decades long failure which is the War on Drugs. Alcohol Prohibition failed spectacularly, as has the Drug Prohibition. Ending that quagmire would turn things around.

Probably just getting a new hairpiece

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Typical Trump. He needs a savior to rescue his dying campaign, so he instinctively decides to outsource the job. What if we build the wall while he is on the other side?

6 ( +11 / -5 )

I bet he's not coming back. He's probably bewildered and exhausted that his campaign has lasted this long and finally had enough. He's pulling a Shawshank.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

America isn't sending its best people to Mexico. They bring trash, stupid s### and they are racists.
