Probably for the best. Don't need a scowling sook spoiling the day.

m the most divisive president in decades

Understatement. Trump's leaving behind the most divided country ever. That his fellow insurrectionists Hawley and Cruz remain in the Senate along with 100+ Trump-right Republicans in the House says the divisions might get even worse. Trump-ism is a disease that has dragged the country to its lowest point in modern history. While the pandemic the Trump admin bungled continues to do further damage to the country.

15 ( +21 / -6 )

Probably for the best. Because if he were on that stage, standing at the bottom of the stairs afterwards would be a couple of FBI agents or NYPD officers ready to arrest him on one of numerous charges awaiting him.

13 ( +17 / -4 )

He is being petty as he has always been. He will go down as the biggest sore loser there ever was. To top that off, he has shown to be a liar and coward, as he first said to his followers that he would be right there with them as they marched to the Capitol, but was quickly found hunkering in the WH. Cowards will always lead from behind.

19 ( +22 / -3 )

glad he's not attending. who knows what this narcissistic sociopath would do on the day

19 ( +21 / -2 )

I think a lot of Republicans will skip Biden’s inauguration. What comes around goes around.

-35 ( +3 / -38 )

About the person who died, she died following a lie and an ideology of hatred, that is the result of being a fan of a fascist clown, belligerent and without humanity.

A unarmed white female protester was killed by the police.

-41 ( +4 / -45 )

”This moment calls for healing and reconciliation...”

Aaah shaddap Mango Mussolini.

17 ( +20 / -3 )

Trump will not attend an inauguration ceremony for Biden's Presidential oath, firmly believing he stole the election? Kid’s stuff. Together with the breaking into the Capitol building by pro-Trump demonstrators, this may betray the fact that the U.S. is not really a democracy after all.

Here in Okinawa the U.S. government, whoever may have been the head of state, has coerced Tokyo to forge ahead with the Futenma relocation plan in sheer disregard of the majority of Okinawa's strong wishes against it, which has been demonstrated time and time again in rallies after rallies, elections, polls and a referendum.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

A unarmed white female protester was killed by the police.

I have no sympathy for the insurrectionist.

22 ( +26 / -4 )

A unarmed white female protester was killed by the police.

An unarmed white female criminal was killed by the police.

You were very vocal arguing the finer points of police vs criminals last year. Why change your tune?

23 ( +26 / -3 )

The hypocrisy has enough density to outweigh a singularity.

You’ll have to explain that. I was stating a fact. Facts are not hypocritical.

I already know what you’re going to say but go on, humor me.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

She was an unarmed veteran with 14 years of honorable service who was exercising her constitutional right to demonstrate her views.

The first 2 words of this sentence are correct.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

He's already most unwelcome and unfit to the inauguration ceremony. The event organizers must now feel relieved of his voluntary absence. Perhaps it's one of the rare, reasonable decisions he's ever made during his term, to make better sense to quite many, including me :)

8 ( +10 / -2 )

1) he isn’t wanted, 2) why would he want to be in a known place where he can easily be arrested? 3) He knows his idiot supporters are planning something. Like all true cowards, he talks big, goes small.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Good riddance!!

You never fulfilled any other presidential duties

why would you start now??

But I bet you'll be glued to the TV and be sulking

like there's no tomorrow! LOL

16 ( +17 / -1 )

Well, Trump not attending the inauguration on the 20th is such a relief. At the very least, the cameras will not endlessly show shots of him, his wife, and his family. Biden deserves the spotlight. My only concern Trump will do some stupid sophomoric stunt at the same time.

16 ( +16 / -0 )

Good. I never want to see him, hear him or read anything about him ever again.

Sayonara baka yarou.

20 ( +20 / -0 )

You modified someone’s post to fit your narrative.

The first 4 words of this sentence are correct. I won’t copy and paste everything after because it’s just your imagination and ‘narrative’.

I corrected she was a criminal, not a protester. That’s a fact.

I questioned those who now see the shoe on the other foot. At no point have I inferred that she deserved it or the lethal force was justified.

That’s your imagination again.

15 ( +16 / -1 )

Why make it easy for NYC prosecutors to serve him with an arrest warrant at 12:01 PM?

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Don't go away mad. Just go away, sore loser. Take your followers with you.

17 ( +18 / -1 )

Where should we leave the empty chair?

12 ( +12 / -0 )

A unarmed white female protester was killed by the police.

Tragic. And Trump bears responsibility for all the lives lost including that of the police officer.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

She was an unarmed veteran with 14 years of honorable service who was exercising her constitutional right to demonstrate her views.

She was not a "terrorist"

She was an anti-American terrorist. An individual with a long rap sheet, a history of violence, attacking the USA along with well-armed rioters in her group. There are always consequences when you join armed riots attacking a nations government.

I'd worry about the quality of the US military if people like her are serving for 14 years.

19 ( +19 / -0 )

Good. No one wants that lunatic there anyways. As deranged as his rabid followers who have been harassing and threatening in public people like Romney and McConnell for daring to not blindly follow Trump.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

@smith

I’m hoping there’ll be another on his list of accomplishments -

the first President to be impeached twice.

17 ( +18 / -1 )

Permanent suspension of the Donald!

16 ( +17 / -1 )

It promises to be a somber day

That could well be, especially considering the terrible messes being left behind by Trump and his Republicans. Which no doubt many Trump backers will LOL at. They'll blame Biden for what Trump and the R's are leaving in their slimy wake. It's possible many of the problems Trump etal created will never be erased. Somber indeed.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Breaking: Trumps been banned from Twitter; May I say, HahahHahahaja (takes deep breath) hahahahahahaja screw you, Donald. Trump

19 ( +19 / -0 )

The coward will not attend the inauguration and now Twitter permanently suspended his account. I guess this is finally the end. Now I just wonder if the coward is going to run to Scotland or not.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Maybe he can use Tiktok.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

To quote another voice from the White House: womp, womp.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

From Twitter.....”due to the risk of further incitement of violence “

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Trump charge by House with one count of sedition in article of impeachment Google Trump Article of Impeachment

7 ( +7 / -0 )

But adults realize they’re responsible for their own actions.

Intelligent adults can understand the concept of divided responsibility. She’s responsible for her actions. Trump for his.

Trump doesn’t seem to realize that. Had he not incited this riot she would likely be alive, the police officer would likely be alive

13 ( +13 / -0 )

1) he isn’t wanted,

Yes he is... in Iraq... they've got a warrant out for his arrest. Not that it'll ever happen but just in case people weren't aware. Anywhere else, yes you're right... he isn't wanted... yet.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

She was an unarmed veteran with 14 years of honorable service who was exercising her constitutional right to demonstrate her views.

How ridiculous.

She was not a completely innocent, legally and constitutionally obedient individual who was demonstrating her views peacefully, and had nothing to do with her own demise.

She promoted sedition and attacked our Capitol, our legislature and the United States of America. I don't feel sorry for her death.

I don't feel worse for her than I did for Al Queda who were killed. They all did acts of terror toward the USA, but the difference? She was treasonous from within and knew exactly where to try and ruin America. It wasn't the trade towers, it was our law making branch of government.

The attack on the Capitol, was our own citizens attempting a coup. A worse act of terror over even 9-11. She and others would have destroyed the electoral boxes, had they gotten them. That was their goal, and they failed. It was not her constitutional right to be in the Capitol trying to achieve this goal by physical, destructive and violent actions.

Don't go thinking this was just a slap on the hands act, where this woman was just doing her constitutional duty. She and all her Trumpian cohorts were attacking the very fabric of America, and she reaped what she sowed.

15 ( +16 / -1 )

A unarmed white female protester was killed by the police.

I saw the actual video, and undoubtedly unwarranted force was used (point blank by the white house cop).

I have no sympathy for the insurrectionist.

"No sympathy" for any one killed no matter what you think is just plain evil thinking.

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

"No sympathy" for any one killed no matter what you think is just plain evil thinking.

Anyone? Are you sure about that?

4 ( +8 / -4 )

He's not wanted! He'll probably be busy, anycase, discussing with Ghouliani about how to defend himself against all the charges against him.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Another reason why Trump won't want to go - they won't be playing YMCA during the inauguration.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

This was the coward’s last two tweets:

"The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!"

"To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th."

The reason for his permanent suspension was because he was basically telling his supporters that the inauguration would be a safe target for violence because he would not be there. He wants to put the life of the President-elect in danger. This coward should’ve been banned a long time ago.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Whereas, say, a black criminal who’s shot by police while committing far more violent crimes than this white lady has done, is automatically immortalized and considered an innocent victim.

Please do give us examples of "black criminals" immortalized in this way. Are you thinking about George Floyd, who was killed by the police because a teenage convenience store employee called 911 when he thought he used a counterfeit 20$ bill? (the bill was real). Or Breonna Taylor, the medical worker who was shot in a raid of her home because the police thought her ex-boyfriend (whom she has severed ties with) was there? (he wasn't).

Or could it be that you're just watching a lot of very racist news sources that pervert each and everyone one of the stories of police brutality in America into "police innocent, black people bad!" type of drivel? I mean it's a rethorical question, the moment someone uses terms like "reverse racism", you pretty much know who you're dealing with (a disgusting, dishonest and despicable racist).

7 ( +10 / -3 )

She was an unarmed veteran with 14 years of honorable service who was exercising her constitutional right to demonstrate her views.

Sadly, her "views" were clearly formed over a lifetime's worth of right-wing brainwashing in the mythology of American exceptionalism and nationalistic rhetoric, a hazardous danger to which members of the armed forces are particularly exposed. The circumstances of her death won't be known until the smoke clears, but the killing of this woman, the policeman and others is a tragic outcome and further stains the bona fides of America's brand of democracy. We should be at least thankful that the Capitol break-in was Trump's version of Musso's "Marcia su Roma" (but led from behind) and not a BLM protest because then "termination with prejudice" would have been the order of the day resulting in a very much higher death toll.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

For all those who conveniently ignore history-

1801 - John Adams, unhappy at the outcome of the election of 1800, did not remain in Washington to witness the inauguration of Thomas Jefferson, his successor.

1829 - John Quincy Adams left town, unwilling to be present for Andrew Jackson's inauguration.

1869 - Andrew Johnson was “angrily conducting a cabinet meeting” as his successor, Ulysses S. Grant, was being inaugurated.

1921 - Woodrow Wilson did not attend Warren G. Harding's inauguration, saying he was sick.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

She was an unarmed veteran with 14 years of honorable service who was exercising her constitutional right to demonstrate her views.

Survived 14 years serving her government and fighting for "democracy" thousands of miles from home. Shot down by the same government fighting for democracy at home.

And people still can't see it.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

For all those who conveniently ignore history-

Who was?

You can edit the Wiki page on the 20th and add one more to the list.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Likely first to be imprisoned after his tenure.

My impression is he said he checked "no" on the RSVP card because he plans to leave the country before his stint officially ends.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

"To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th," the U.S. leader said on Twitter.

Good. Take your hate, your disrespect for democracy, your gross incompetence, and your Stormy Daniels DVD collection and escape to Mar-A-Lago, i.e., MAGAstan....

Start preparing your defense now for charges of sedition, the tax and insurance fraud indictments will come later...

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Survived 14 years serving her government and fighting for "democracy" thousands of miles from home. Shot down by the same government fighting for fascism at home.

Fixed it for you. It is a tragic story indeed.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

One of the bigots arrested near the Capitol needed a Russian interpreter!!!!

Putin, the criminal, standing by his lackey trump, till the end!!!

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Ted Cruz goes into damage control.

he & any other Trump arse-kissers should also be held responsible & be forced to resign office

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I see that the usual far right bunch in JT have not changed their tune.

Thank god their cult leader has gone and they can comment themselves into irrelevance.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

PTownsend: Understatement. Trump's leaving behind the most divided country ever.

Ever? You do realize this is a country that had an actual civil war, don't you?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Please explain how she was fighting for fascism.

She was protesting what was by all official accounts a completely fair election and violentely invaded the capitol in order to stop the official democratic process confirming its winner. All of that in order to keep the current president, who overwhelmingly lost the election, in power. So basically she was trying to impose the will of the minority she belongs to on all citizens of her country, who democratically made a choice she didn't like.

That is nothing short of fascism.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

"To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th," the U.S. leader said on Twitter.

All that healing and reconciliation stuff didn't last too long did it?

9 ( +11 / -2 )

No one cares.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

I guess at this stage nitpicking is all trump supporters have left. Small victories for small minds.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Commanteer, police were killed in the Capitol by MAGA terrorist,

And no police were murdered during the BLM protests.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

"A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power," Trump said in a short video.

However, the evidently reluctant concession, in which Trump failed to congratulate Biden or directly admit defeat, was too little, too late to calm outrage over his role in the Capitol invasion.

It's always easy to tell when Trump says something he doesn't believe, something someone else wrote for him. He read it like someone eating natto who hates natto. He read it because the Whitehouse staff told him he had sealed his own fate, that he had no choice. Then shortly after without a script he said something totally opposite revealing his true feelings.

He can't be gone soon enough.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Sorry. But you don’t know what fascism is.

It's probably true that people use the term too loosely, but the Trump cultists use "far left" and "Marxist" about fairly centrist politicians from the Democratic party.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Sorry.

I accept your apology.

But you don’t know what fascism is.

I know full well what fascism is, as well as I know what bad faith is, and what someone who has no arguments and no real will or capacity for debate looks like. Fortunately, now that the Trump era is over, we should see a little less of all of that.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Biden, the DNC and all Washington's political establishment will now sleep better knowing that America's rogue Potus won't rain on their parade.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Lol. Worst and only anti-American US president ever.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

The ceremony on the 20th is a dignified affair. Why on earth would anyone want that piece of filth there?

At 12:01 pm all bets are off. The FBI would be waiting for him.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

He is basically telling the Boogaloos, accelerationists and QAnon mob "I won't be there so I won't get hurt if you want to settle some scores"

8 ( +9 / -1 )

''All that healing and reconciliation stuff didn't last too long did it?''

Hahaha....As soon as he realized no one believed the words he was made to read, and he was still (if America has any sense left) looking at being charged with sedition, he dropped the facade.

Those defending the people who stormed the capital are just...unbelievable.

One thing I did enjoy is that interview with the woman who was 'shocked' that she got a can of mace in her face while by her own description illegally entered the building and was taking part in a 'revolution!'

So that along with pipe bombs and weapons and violence pretty much explains why Security had to employ force, and unfortunately deadly force in their line of duty.

The situation (as described by a participant in it, let alone the video evidence) is so far removed from a civil rights protest and use of unnecessary force it's difficult to accept the posters making that false equivalency actually believe what they are typing.

One last thing that I actually find funny. These clowns had no plan.

Storm the capital! Smash stuff up!.....erm....what next?

Did they think that would be enough and the world would just go, 'O.K. O.K. you got us, here, have America,'

The mind boggles.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

She was an unarmed veteran with 14 years of honorable service who was exercising her constitutional right to demonstrate her views.

She was not a "terrorist"

The version of events I read is she was among a group that used available wood and flag poles to break out windows in the capital on doors that had been barricaded by the police. Police were behind the barricades trying to keep them out. She climbed through a broken window and was shot. Be your own judge of whether that was a crime or not.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Survived 14 years serving her government and fighting for "democracy" thousands of miles from home. Shot down by the same government fighting for democracy at home.

And people still can't see it.

I can see clearly she was fighting to disenfranchise me.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

trump will not be welcome in civilized society again!!!

I am sure Russia is the right place for him!!!

7 ( +10 / -3 )

My gut is telling me this isn't the end but the beginning of something ugly. The hatreds that drove those rioters haven't gone away or been soothed. Not at all, and quite a few of the rioters are going home thinking the majority of the Republican Party are now their sworn enemies little different than the Democrats. Something else is going to happen. The alienation these people feel hasn't been cured. It may never be. The world changes. You either adapt and change with it or get passed by and left behind. Many of these people feel left behind and do not see any way to ever catch up. I worry they will regroup around someone or something else.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

I worry they will regroup around someone or something else

Same. The 100+ House members plus Cruz, Hawley and others will most likely continue to pander to the Trump followers. I imagine there are lots of demagogues to replace him. Bannon has to be on the list. And he's got global backing.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

From here on in, things are going to get pretty ugly.

Nah. I think you’re over estimating the attention span of the average idiot.

Things are going to get better now loudmouth is gone.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

I wasn’t planning to attend myself.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

A sore loser to the end. Just take your toys and leave already.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Cockroach.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I'd worry about the quality of the US military if people like her are serving for 14 years.

No need to worry about this, it is a fact that the quality of the military has suffered tremendously since the Iraq invasion lie. That many military folks were a part of the terrorist mob this week is no surprise at all. They are traitors to their country even though they wear the military uniform or had done so. You can thank them for their service to overthrow Democracy this week and murder a police officer.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/10/10/army-accepting-more-low-quality-recruits-giving-waivers-marijuana-hit-targets/750844001/

4 ( +4 / -0 )

trump will not be welcome in civilized society again!!!

Nothing will happen as Joe has his own skeletons to protect.

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

Nothing will happen as Joe has his own skeletons to protect.

If he does something wrong, like incite violence, betray the Constitution and repeatedly lie to the electorate - then yes, Biden should pay the price.

But 46 isn't in the same league as your treacherous leader.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

He’s always been a sulky child. Maybe he can sit at home and Tweet trash about about it. Oh, he’s been thrown off Twitter.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

I think a lot of Republicans will skip Biden’s inauguration. What comes around goes around.

So wolfpack, not attending the inauguration is similar to invading the Capital building, planting bombs in it, vandalizing the entire building, killing a police officer and stealing PCs from representatives offices and also urinating in them? Is that what you mean?

Can the maga crowd get any worse than this? Of course they can and will.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Oh, he’s been thrown off Twitter.

He could always post here. Flip flop, boast, lie, pretend he's done all sorts of stuff that just doesn't add up under close scrutiny, contradict himself, post incoherent sentences...

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Now I just wonder if the coward is going to run to Scotland or not.

The Last King of Scotland?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

No offence meant to this site, which usually does a sterling job, but twitter/FB etc aren't the only forms of social media that have (if not promoted but) given a platform to some truly repellent bigotry, lies and general craziness.

Twitter and FB etc, came to the solution late in the day. I believe that they should shoulder some of the blame for the state of US (and elsewhere) discourse in these times.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

It's best if Trump just goes away quietly. Go spend the millions your supporters gave you and (bleep) off.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

WolfpackToday  07:02 am JST

I think a lot of Republicans will skip Biden’s inauguration. What comes around goes around.

They lost the White House and the Senate, and they failed to take back the House. Who cares if they want to be bad losers. I don't think Biden will be all that bothered. There'll probably still be more people than there were at Trump's inauguration.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Little Marco and Sniveling Ted are whitewashing their history faster than the traitors are scrubbing their social media.

It won’t work. we won’t forget.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

I think a lot of Republicans will skip Biden’s inauguration.

Hmmmm..... You also thought Trump would win in a landslide, be re-inaugurated on Jan 20th, and the Senate remain Repub....

What comes around goes around.

Says Lindsey Graham as he's called a traitor by Trump supporters at DC airport....

https://edition.cnn.com/videos/politics/2021/01/08/lindsey-graham-airport-trump-supporters-vpx.cnn

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Better for Trump. The Dems didn’t go to his inauguration, so I don’t see anything wrong with him not going to Biden’s. Take a break and enjoy your life for a bit, regroup and take on the establishment again later, plenty of time. I give the Dems 90 days head start.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

but twitter/FB etc aren't the only forms of social media that have (if not promoted but) given a platform to some truly repellent bigotry, lies and general craziness.

And continues to give a platform for pandemic deniers - paid and 'volunteer'..

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Better for Trump. The Dems didn’t go to his inauguration,

You got that confused. The “dems” went to his inauguration. It was just the people who skipped it.

It’s why his numbers were so pathetic compared to Obama’s.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Trump (stamping his feet): I won’t go to your inauguration!

Everyone else: ok.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

the Dems promised a blue wave

Senate, House, presidency. And not trump. All wins.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Trump doesn’t owe them a thing, not a darn thing

Trump owes 400 million things in a few months here.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

lincolnmanToday  01:49 pm JST

Hmmm, but we’re not talking about Obama, no one care what this....whatever thinks. The Dems resisted Trump from his inauguration, so Trump doesn’t owe them a thing, not a darn thing, he doesn’t equally need to go as well and shouldn’t, I wouldn’t. Good on him.

Interesting - the Trump supporters are all for attending a violent looting of our Congress but won't attend a ceremony honoring our democratic principles...

Says it all doesn't it...

Trump doesn't have an atom of manhood in him. He just can't accept defeat, he can't take a NO.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Obama always showed good manners and he's got class, something Trump knows nothing about. He witnessed the 'Triumph Of the Will' nauseatingly arrogant temper tantrum that passed for Trump's inauguration speech and probably excused himself to throw up

Ok, we have a difference of opinion, I don’t care what that guy did, I care what happened how the Dems treated this President in 2016, so Trump doesn’t owe them anything, so I don’t see anything wrong him not going at all, his choice, his right, the Dems made their choice and their right.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

bass4funkToday  01:33 pm JST

The Dems didn’t go to his inauguration,

Barack Obama did. So did Hilary Clinton.

so I don’t see anything wrong with him not going to Biden’s.

Neither does Biden.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Well, Trump deciding not to attend may be a blessing in disguise...

Can you imagine what would have happened had he attended?

And the remaining Presidents are introduced....

President Carter....."Thank you".....

President Clinton....Thank you".....

President Bush....."Thank you"....

President Obama....."Thank you"....

President Trump....."Wait, wait, I have a few words to say. "It's rigged! I won. Hillary, Hunter, and Hugo Chavez stole it from me! Didn't you see Elvis in a UFO picking up all those ballots on Georgia? The earth's flat! The moon landing was faked! Send me $100 and I'll prove it!"....
