starpunk - And she doesn't deserve it either. She's obnoxious, rude and always asking for a fight.
Lucky for her, your approval is not required. Haters gotta hate, and the bullying nature of the far-left protestors/whiners appears to have made Secret Service protection necessary.

Nope. I'm very clear on it. And I refuse your false narrative. My original comment stands:
It doesn't matter if you accept it or not. People can read the ruling and make up their own minds. The Colorado Civil Rights Commission failed to abide by existing State of Colorado law, and the SCOTUS called them on it.

You seem confused about what the SCOTUS was asked to decide in Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. The court was asked to decide if the Colorado Civil Rights Commission failed to follow state law/guidelines in it's decision regarding religious neutrality.
The owner-baker had informed the same sex couple that he would sell them any other kind of cake, but he would not “create” a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding. An artist can not be forced to create something they do not wish to create. Standard baked goods were available to anyone, and everyone.
The SCOTUS held that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission’s consideration of this case was inconsistent with the State of Colorado's obligation to remain religious neutral. The bottom line is that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission failed to do it's job, and the SCOTUS ruled in favor of the artist-baker.

"His quotes range from deranged to batpoo crazy."
You're confusing Mike Huckabee with Maxine Waters.

The real winner is probably the restaurant with all the media attention and while republicans might boycott it the number of customers will have increased.
Nope, this kind of media attention is what any restaurant will never want, this just shows there pure blind hatred, booting out your own government.. wonder what kind of customers they will attract in the future..
starpunk
And yet Sarah's batcrap crazy dad supports Donny Douchebag Traitor who fondles his daughter and wants to MARRY her! Marry your own daughter, I guess that's alright and holy matrimony but non-incestuous gay adult marriage isn't? People who raise their children to be their lovers are molester trash.

Interesting update

The owner has a right to refuse service." --- Really? Does this apply to bakers as well? The more liberal postings I read the better I feel about being conservative. :-)

Then start putting those words into practice!

The owner explained that she was against the bill signed by Trump that would exclude transgender persons who require or have undergone gender transition surgery from serving in the military. Maybe she can get enough of those clients to make up the difference.

It's a small but valid protest against Chump and his cronies.

Actually, the kids were traumatized far more by their irresponsible parents than by anything that happened once they reached the US. Exposed to the harsh desert, criminal gangs, lack of food and water, sexual assault, what sane parent would put their kids through that? Especially when it is so easy to request asylum while still in Mexico! There are 10 US consular offices in Mexico. ALL are closer than the US border, and NONE will take your kids away while your claim is processed. No, clearly it is all a smokescreen to mask their true intent of being economic migrants, taking advantage of the system.
jcapan
Trump and "his people," as he calls them, are thrilled to be talking about the Red Hen and bakers and Melatonin's jackets and Maxine Waters. Anything to obfuscate the core issue--a policy that intentionally traumatized 1000s of kids.
It's no surprise that the media embraces their role as useful idiots. The outrage du jour as a news template is ratings gold and profits are booming as a result of their 24/7 Trump-athon. Plus, focusing on the kids would just be plain boring, amirite. They had their 15 minutes of fame, let's now turn our attn. to the lack of civility in Versailles on the Potomac.

but, wait ... there's (much) more
trump really should just shut his mouth.

Ah, Cleo. If only you could point out all those anti---- policies. They seem to be figments of the left's collective imagination to me. He's a New York businessman- if he were anti all those groups, he wouldn't have very many people left to do business with!
Tokyo; here is a link to the story of the Sanders party being followed and harassed:

I wonder if the manager and staff of Red Hen will undergo the same tolerance training the Starbucks staff recent did.
My understanding is that the baker refused to bake a specific cake. However, the Red Hen refused to serve Sanders, period.
cleo
The restaurant refused a person whose job is to defend anti-black, anti-gay, anti-moslem policies. ......hmmm.

I wonder if people would defend the restaurant still if they refused a person because they were black, or gay, or moslem..hmmm

@Atilla - Is there a link to an article showing they were followed. If so I would like to read it (I am not challenging what you say but it sounds interesting)

Trump’s reaction reminds me of the fart scene in blazing saddles.

That's not what I've read. Only she was. Others were welcome to stay but perhaps that wasn't made clear.

The issues are separate Farmboy. Whether or not it is legal vs. whether or not it is ethical/moral/hypocritical.
As a business owner, it is playing with fire to do this kind of social engineering experiment. Particularly since conservatives tend to vote with their wallets far more than liberals do.
Attilathehungry
Interesting footnote- Sanders and her husband left. THe remaining six people went to another restaurant. However, they were FOLLOWED by the Red Hen owner, who kept trying to whip up a mob to have them denied service at the second establishment. Ironically, Sanders' family don't work in politics. They don't even agree with Sanders politically. However, I guess they were tainted by association.

A bloke who prefers maccas & subway to proper/locally owned restos has zero credibility. And working class 'merica thought this dude was the savior of us small biz, smh!

How many of Sander's party were asked to leave?

This whole red hen situation reminds me of the movie Easy Rider, where the red necks hated them because of their long hair and lifestyle. Except the supposedly tolerant, are now intolerant. Ironic Peter made news as well fair his MSM misguided hatred.

I find this a bit more interesting than someone being asked to leave a restaurant, offering to pay, and then the owner comps what they had up to the time they left.....

Interestingly enough there are only 3 places in the U.S. where it is illegal to deny service based on political affiliation, Washington DC, Seattle, and the Virgin Islands.
Not surprising this law is in place in the District of Criminals.
Strangerland
Superlib just proved my point about the usage of 'the end'. Notice how he didn't need to finish off his post with 'the end'? Notice how the content of the post speaks for itself, laying out an argument and a conclusion?
Compare this to:
It is, because I said so. The end.
Anyone who ever finishes off an argument with 'the end' or 'period' is just showing the weakness of their argument.
Lizz
t's very stupid for Trump to involve himself in this story. It was wrong to deny service to Sanders unless you believe that the owner of a business has the right to decline any customer without even stating the reason
I don't believe it is illegal by either federal or Virginia law to deny service based upon political affiliation or a person's place of employment. Although according to her dad Mike Huckabee after Sarah left the owner followed the rest of the party to another restaurant, organized a group of people to assist her efforts, and then led the mob in continued harassment of the Sanders family. Which would, at the least, constitute stalking behavior.
SuperLib
The US has protected classes, and even then it can vary by industry. For example when Trump discriminated against black people he had a blanket policy to deny rentals to all black people because they were black. He even marked the applications with “C” for “colored.”
On the other hand, a black person can apply for housing and be denied because they have bad credit, or no job, or even if the owner thinks he’s just a jerk. It’s incredibly hard to prove racism unless you are really dumb and start marking applications or something or specifically tell staff not to rent to any black people.
As a business owner, you are well within your rights to look at a woman like Sanders and say you think she is despicable for wanting to harm children, and you have the right to ask her to leave. But if you asked her to leave because she was a woman, and that’s your reason, you’re in hot water.
Strangerland
Who lost? You are the one trying to argue that A isn't equal to A. Extremist attitudes are very visible to non-extremists.
Strangerland
Ok, so we've determined it's ok to discriminate against something if you don't like it.
Yet you are trying to say that it's wrong when it happens to Sanders.
Strangerland
Seriously lame to be an extremist trying to push a false narrative that one incident is justified while the other is evil.
I think you forgot to end that with 'the end'.
Strangerland
Then by that argument you are wrong about the restaurant.
I wonder if we did a study about the ratio of times 'the end' or 'period' was used alongside an irrational argument that wasn't actually the end.
I can't say I've ever seen a strong argument made that needed to be followed with 'the end' or 'period'. A strong argument already makes that point, without it needing to be said. In fact, saying it would weaken the argument, do to the emotional feeling that the person would only be saying that if they didn't have confidence in the argument they were making.
No I wouldn't. I've never done anything like that, whatever gave you the idea I would start now?
See what I mean about you not being very accurate with your predictions, and why I doubt the things you claim? It's not because I have a problem with you, it's because you are not very accurate with your predictions.

Fast food chains? Chains which serve SOFT, TENDER burger meat, EASY TO BITE fries, maybe some PURÉED food? Some SOFT chocolate cake. And other Polygrip-friendly food?
Independent eateries often focus on hard chewy food?

Fun fact: Over the past 36 months Mar a Lago has been cited 78 times for health code violations, including black mold crawling all over the ice maker, serving raw and under cooked food, storing perishables at the wrong temperature, and rust-caked shelves in the freezer.

No. The supreme court ruled that the Colorado Equal Rights commission infringed upon the cake maker's religious liberties. They did NOT, however, rule in favor of his right to discriminate against homosexuals.

The Supreme Court ruled you are wrong. the end. The left is seriously unhinged when you can even stop pushing false equivalencies where the Supreme Court told you that your narrative is false.
If this happened to a liberal you would be boycotting and filing lawsuits and claiming gender discrimination and trying to shut down the restaurant. That is extremism.
OssanAmerica
Good grief, why can't he show some dignity and intelligence for once. Can't we shut down his stupid twitter account for "national security" reasons or something?
Strangerland
Made to order. Made to 'her' order.
Anyways, you can try to keep pushing the false narrative that there is a difference between the bakers and the owner of the restaurant, and I know there is no way out for you, since to admit the equivalency would require admitting your comments were extremist. You've painted yourself into a corner, and the only way you can try to recover is to try to repeat the same illogicality in the opes that we'll become blinded to the extremism in the same way you have been.
This is why you should choose your points based on what is right and what is wrong, rather than based on your team's ideology. Because when you end up trying to use illogic to defend something illogical and just look silly.
Strangerland
I understand you keep trying to push this falsehood, as admitting the truth would mean admitting your extremism.
But don't expect us to fall for your extremist mistruths simply because you've chosen that ideology.
Chop Chop
Don't mix business and politics. If the owner thinks this is a free advertising opportunity for her restaurant and then she was wrong. I saw many businesses went bankrupt or close after they messed up with politic activism and business.
Strangerland
She was denied having a custom meal made for her according to her order.
Sorry, but unless you are ready to either accept these both as acceptable, or both as wrong, you are an extremist trying to have your cake and eat it too.
Strangerland
And by that logic, refusing service to Sanders would not be wrong either.
Sorry mate, I know you really, REALLY want to have your cake and eat it to, but the fact is if you approve of one and condemn the other, you are an extremist, who is only making things worse.
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
They were denied service, just like Sanders was.
Plus, there is a being a member of crass, lying administration isn't a protected class, sexual orientation is. Not the same thing, oops.
Strangerland
They were refused service, same as Sanders. It was wrong when the bakers refused service, and it was wrong when Sanders was refused service.
But you can't admit both those things were wrong, can you. Nope, extremists are unable to admit their own faults, because it destroys their entire narrative.
Strangerland
I haven't done this, so I'm not sure as to whom you are referring here.
Strangerland
So now we have a rightie arguing that it's ok to ban people from your establishments because of some beliefs, but not because of others.
I think he said more, but I couldn't read it over the glare from his blinding hypocrisy.
Strangerland
And I never claimed it didn't happen. Only that I'm pretty skeptical about it. I wouldn't be surprised if something happened that the right has twisted into this talking point. That's par for the course. But the likelihood that it happened as described is very easy to doubt.
Blacklabel
False equivalency, right? Supreme Court also ruled in his favor. And the florist too. So liberals were wrong in this case to “go off”. The law was followed and the baker’s decision was protected. I’m all about the law, not muh feelings.
stormcrow
No, Sanders shouldn't have been treated that way. However, it's not very surprising either considering that she's Trump's mouthpiece.
She'll survive, she's a big girl. Of more immediate and important concern should be about the mental well-being of those little kids who've been ripped apart from their mothers and are still God-knows-where.
Blacklabel
Of course you are skeptical. Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen though. Even if it didn’t, all the other actions leftists have done recently makes normal people easily believe it could have happened.
That’s where the left is losing in all this. People can visualize it happening just like Mike Huckabee said it did. Before all this recent nonsense most people would have shared your skepticism. But now? Totally believable.
Strangerland
I'm pretty skeptical.
Strangerland
Which is why people went off when the bakers refused to bake a cake for patrons of their establishment.
But you don't condemn that do you?
Blacklabel
What was a main image from these 1950s you speak of? People being denied service at restaurants.

So, putting children in cages in camps and lying about it is a political belief in the US now, is it? I guess things have changed over there recently.
Strangerland
Well, it's more logical than the religious beliefs some businesses are using as an excuse to refuse service to some patrons.
Strangerland
Also applicable to presidents.
PTownsend
That's a good question, especially for those Americans who want to return to the 1950's and its 'separate but equal' policies.
Too bad that so many supporters of making America hate again have brought back that ugly notion.

It's been worrying listening to Trump's daily lies and verbal assaults on the remaining shaky pillars of US democracy, and watching as he and his fellow plutocrats, with assistance from plutocrats around the globe, further undermine them.
I'm actually shocked it's been so easy for them to to that. I had had greater faith in US democracy and the US political system. GoTrumpers (in the US and 'abroad'): you own this mess.
