Well then, he didn't blow their cover, now did he? It's public knowledge that they are there. If they are doing something other than what they claim to be doing, that's still a secret, isn't it...

Unless your assigned to SOCCENT, you wouldn't know that...

Except that you still fail to acknowledge that in this case where they are is public knowledge and the president exposed nothing that wasn't already known. He did not send a Tweet about their real mission so nothing about their mission was exposed.

They wouldn't go to a press event with the President if they needed their location kept a secret. That's not how it works. If anything, the Chaplain blew it by telling the President why he was there. Operational Security goes both ways.

Maybe they were ordered to be there - by the guy that compromised them...

A Navy Chaplain (the one who possibly 'compromised' them) can't order a SEAL team to do anything except maybe go to mass... And any SEAL worth a damn would have refused an order if it would have risked their mission.

The more you people whine about stuff like this that are non-issues, the more it distracts from the real dumb things Trump does.

@lincolnman

The seals are there publically training Iraqis. It’s not a covert operation.

Says who? Maybe that was their cover.

"some observers called it a breach of operational security."

What does Mattis have to say about this?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Trump showing for the umpteenth time he has no idea.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

No, but having his main opponent in 2016 in office would have. Unencrypted private server and all that.

She's been gone and out of sight for two years - this unhealthy fixation Trumpers have with the "pant suit lady" borders on being really weird...

Yeah, don't forget she was running a child-sex ring from a pizza place too.

The favorite retort of conservatives: I know you are, but what am I? Sophisticated.

"Just having Trump in office is a risk to national security"

A government sponsored, elite hit squad can't manage to avoid being caught in a compromising photo? Pretty poor training, if you ask me.

Yeah, because they can just run away whenever their commander-in-chief enters the room.

"his tweet likely didn't run afoul of any rules, some observers called it a breach of operational security."

Who are these observers?

Not sure but I daresay you would be agreeing with them 100% if Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton had done the same thing.

What a freakin idiot.

Photo caught the bright red bow on the blue curtain behind him well. If only he would have noticed and swapped his extra-long red one for a real necktie(!)? That would have been a good tweet ...

No problem of their photos. End of story.

End of operation - compromised by our Moron in Chief...who's a danger to the republic...

A wall isn’t an emotional response. It’s a physical entity that is necessary for comprehensive border security.

Yes it is. A rational response would be to look at how illegal immigrants are coming in, and focus resources (aka money) on dealing with those entry points.

Building a 30ft high wall a few thousand miles long is something a 7 year-old kid would think of. The adults in the room would pat him on the head and say 'good idea! you're so creative', and then go on being adults.

The wall is not necessary. It is a boondoggle that serves to make people feel better because they can see they have a big wall, but the actual effectiveness of said wall will not be anywhere near good on a proper cost/benefit analysis.

Keep trying, media just looking petty and partisan.

Trump's tweets count as official presidential statements. It is the news media's responsibility to report any that are of consequence, such as one that may compromise national security. You have a problem with that?

emotional? Say the people who were crying and screaming at the sky and getting counseling just because their candidate lost?

What people getting counseling? Sounds to me like you just made that up. Anyway, better them getting counseling than threatening armed insurrection if their candidate lost.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Yes, emotional, and though I dislike it, have to admit it was successful.

Playing to xenophobic fears (forgetting its a country of immigrants.. but oh well), playing up to the religious right, talking to the low to middle class white man, feeling less important? Lets blame women or someone that looks different (all the while its very rich white men that are screwing them over), making ridiculous changes to try and undo good work that has been done for LGBTQ.. and on and on and on.. and all emotional arguments, with little solid foundation in facts, but it worked... and we all the whole world over are worse off for it.

Trump betrays his country again and still the usual suspects adore his antics.

Astounding.

B... b... but... we need a WALL! Now, or I'm going to stamp my feet and scream and cry and shut the government down!

So yeah, 'emotional'.

Ah Trump, the people at home are getting restless, the news of your shut down charity and the pain of a shut down government, (which he incidentally said indicated a "lack of leadership and negotiation skills" when he was in shouting from the outside) better pop off and get some snaps with the troops see if we can keep that emotional base hanging on.

Never mind on top of the government being shutdown over a wall that isn't practical, and again based around emotional arguments (Large scale walls are usually as much to control the people on the inside as it is to keep people out, history doesn't end up showing them in a good light), the all important Johnson Amendment is under attack again..

But hey look over here its a photo opportunity that seems to speak to that emotional base again..

Just trying to find ANYthing that might stick.

Trying? They don't need to try when Trump makes himself a laughing stock just about every day.

Ummm, if the SEALs don’t want a public photo with the President, then they tell his handlers in advance. The media is pulling out all the stops to give negative coverage of his trip to disguise how enthusiastically the military members greeted him.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Just one more example in a litany that he's a "danger to the republic"....

8 ( +9 / -1 )

While the president has broad authority to declassify information, so his tweet likely didn't run afoul of any rules...

Which would be fine if he'd made a conscious decision to reveal information that was safe to declassify, being fully aware of the rules. Sounds more like he did it because he thought it would be cool to show off.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Trump shuts the government down, and goes abroad for a photo opp?

Really shows where his priorities are.

January 3rd can't come soon enough for America...

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Must have spotlight on himself, even if it costs lives. Wonderful photo op. Probably thinks Seals are something you see in the zoo.
