Looked it up on the internet, and for every Norwegian who moved to the USA last year, more than 20 Americans moved to Norway. The numbers were 354 to over 8,000. Could people be fleeing Trump?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

That sounds great, but I am not in the least jealous of the Norwegians, if they like living that way it’s good for them, I like our Way of life and our system better, but that’s just my personal opinion.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Such an embarrassment. I do wish he would resign.

We have relatives in Norway. As others have asked, why would they want to move here? They don't want to, I assure you. Someone should look up how many immigrants moved to the US from Scandinavia in recent years. What they want is for the US to stay in NATO, and to have access to American universities and medical facilities. As a country with democratic socialism, they have "free" higher education and healthcare, but as a country with just 5 million people, they can not have all of the specialized schools and hospitals available to the richest Americans.

A few interesting facts. Norway has access to a large quantity of oil, but more importantly, the benefits of that oil go to the people, not to the 1%. But that is not why Norway is able to afford socialized healthcare and education. All of the Scandinavian countries have similar societies to Norway's, and while Denmark has access to a relatively small amount of oil, none of the others do. Also, Norway's democratic socialism started more than half a century before oil production came on line.

At the beginning of the oil boom, Norway invited American oil companies to run their oil production, but they ended up throwing out the American management because of their inferior methods of employee relations. American corporate management finds it very, very difficult to treat workers with respect, something that is integral to Norwegian society, and to their success as a nation.

Most people do not realize how small is Scandinavia. The total population of the region, and the total GDP of the entire region, is less than the population and GDP of California. That is obviously why NATO is so important to them. Without a unified system of defense, Russia would have taken over the wealth of the region a long time ago.

never agreed with the leader of NK except the word "dotard", fits perfectly.

*Obviously, Trump doesn't know about the Bill of Rights: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal".*

He just stated certain countries are a s___hole. He didn’t say all men are not created equal.

I mean, I didn't say anything about money, injected or otherwise, and I never even uttered the word "responsibility" and didn't even approach the issue from any national point of view, but who am I to stand in the way of your paranoid delusions?

Not paranoid, but from your talking, it sure sounds like you meant it.

Yeah, see, the only people who don't know the difference between "white supremacists", the people I was talking about, and white people in general is... white supremacists!

I’m so confused.

It's an old trick they use to protect themselves from self-examination: pretending without a shred of evidence that everyone else in the world is just as bigoted as they are.

Trick you say? So basically you are implying that white people can only be racist, but black people can’t or Hispanic people for matter? I hope you’re not serious about that because you would be walking into a losing argument.

The majority of white people aren't white supremacists and don't need to be told that a comment attacking white supremacists as illiterate isn't an attack on white people in general. But hey, I really appreciate the mod deleting my post. Rather gives away a lot about who they are, don't you think?

Hmmmm...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It's easy to attack a man who says incredibly stupid things but I think people are over reacting.

I'm 50/50 on this. If it was in private with a friend or something, ok, say what you want. But it was in a meeting with a bunch of politicians, which very clearly is a 'business' meeting (as opposed to casual), so the comment is very inappropriate.

Trump just cancelled his UK trip and he blamed it on Obama (no joke- he really did).

Wrongly at that, it was actually Bush who did what Trump blamed Obama for.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I'm not sure what is racist about the comment. I think it is a statement about the economic disposition of those countries. Have any of you been to Haiti?

Currently the US doesn't allow much immigration from any country that is predominantly white. How is that not racist?

It's easy to attack a man who says incredibly stupid things but I think people are over reacting.

I'd rather hear Trump use politically incorrect language

Trump implies he did not use the term 'sh!thole countries' (news source)

Why defend him in the first place? He said he didn't say that word. Trump followers: Why don't you say it is fake news and he never said it? Or just blame the whole thing on Hillary or Obama? In fact Trump just cancelled his UK trip and he blamed it on Obama (no joke- he really did).

Perhaps an entrance exam is warranted? Proof of education? There are more than enough uneducated in America to do the menial jobs already. America does not need more of them.

Very true, so what you are saying, we have to inject more money into a failed country and rebuild it because of their history, it's now our responsibility?

I mean, I didn't say anything about money, injected or otherwise, and I never even uttered the word "responsibility" and didn't even approach the issue from any national point of view, but who am I to stand in the way of your paranoid delusions?

I saw someone arguing that Haiti's history of black people throwing off oppression is why white supremacists hate it so much, though personally I'm a bit skeptical. That theory would require most white supremacists to have read a history book.

What you just said could be taken as a racist insult. How would you know which group reads or doesn't read, making racial assumptions like that is stereotyping and racially profiling a group of people.

Yeah, see, the only people who don't know the difference between "white supremacists", the people I was talking about, and white people in general is... white supremacists!

It's an old trick they use to protect themselves from self-examination: pretending without a shred of evidence that everyone else in the world is just as bigoted as they are.

He said "a JOURNALIST", bass... not a tabloid writer, and not a person who says "who full of crap the Democrats are" instead of people as well, proving only bias and not actual reporting.

I'm not on the clock. I'm a civilian like you.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

M3M3M3: "I sense a bit of condescension in your comment, but who do you think the 'uneducated' should have voted for if not Trump, and why? It's an genuine question."

I think it is the duty of each and every one of us to educate ourselves before voting.

bass4funk: "Yes, you are right and because I know this all too well, I know how full of crap the Democrats are and the games they play."

No, it's a public comment thread.

Exactly!

But you butted in on my response to someone else with an irrelevant rhetorical point ("so what?"), which either unintentionally due to an inability to understand something that was written in plain and grammatically correct English, and included the necessary context, or intentionally due to a disregard for inescapable facts and a fondness for strawman tactics, took us off on a tangent, and having done that, you are now introducing a tangent to the tangent just to keep it rolling and move it to something that has no relevance at all to my original comment but that apparently you want to say anyway.

Yawn, so what's your point?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

smith: "At least you admit he's racist"

Um, no, I admit the libs accuse him of being racist. I'd rather hear Trump use politically incorrect language than see the libs do more damage to the country.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Certainly for the Left, hatred for cis-gender white males is what keeps them in a perpetual state of rage. yet the majority of Democrat senators are white males!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

You ask, what on God's earth is enough to persuade Trump's remaining supporters of this man's utter vileness? never happen! as none of his remaining supporters would ever admit to making the mistake of voting for this vile racist egotistical pile of filth

2 ( +2 / -0 )

So it's total crap to say, as the person I was responding to did, that Trump is a victim of "recording devices everywhere". If you're going to butt in,

Is this a private chat room?

you might at least make some sort of effort to understand what's been said, instead of implying that I was making my comment without context. I quoted Attilathehungry in my comment.

Trump is a victim of his own lack of self-control, for which, apparently, he and his credulous supporters think the rest of the world should be blamed.

Oh, really? You think so?

His latest comment was made at a closed doors meeting and not picked up on a hot mic or a concealed recording device or anything of the kind - so it had nothing whatsoever to do with modern technology: it was shared by Democrats

You said the magic it was shared by “Democrats”

So because they (the Democrats) said so, there is no doubt he said that statement? When has it been since Democrats are the purveyor of truth and justice?

who were present at the meeting. Passed along by word of mouth.

Yes and with each passing by word of mouth the story changes. Like I want a bicycle and when it gets to the 10th person, I want a Ferrari.

This is pretty standard stuff for private meetings at high levels and has been since before any of us were born.

So that means, the Democrats don’t lie?

A journalist, even a semi-literate one, would know this, because it is absolutely basic to how that world works, and always has been.

Yes, you are right and because I know this all too well, I know how full of crap the Democrats are and the games they play.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

As one Norwegan put it. Of course people from #Norway would love to move to a country where people are far more likely to be shot, live in poverty, get no healthcare because they’re poor, get no paid parental leave or subsidized daycare and see fewer women in political power. #Sh※※hole. Norway has one of the highest standards of living in the world and one if the highest in satusfaction with life. Thats what you get when you have a responsible government that invests its tax revenue into the improvemnet of living standard of all norwegians. American would be better off migrating to Norway

4 ( +4 / -0 )

But when Trump haters make inflammatory statements about his supporters that they are low level white trash, that's not racist?

I thought you guys liked straight talkers. Now you're whining that we are talking straight. I wonder why that is - maybe because you don't like straight talking when it's pointed at your people? But then that would make you hypocritical, when you appreciate Trump's 'straight talking' against minorities other that yourselves.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

You ask, what on God's earth is enough to persuade Trump's remaining supporters of this man's utter vileness?

What on earth makes you, despite all evidence to the contrary, continue to believe that Trump supporters find anything vile about his racist garbage?

For them, his racism is a feature, not a bug.

But when Trump haters make inflammatory statements about his supporters that they are low level white trash, that's not racist? Or if you are Black or any other minority, you are an Uncle Tom or sellout that's not equally as racist or offensive? What drives me nuts about liberals is that they think they have the high moral ground in dictating what is and what isn't racist. Trump haters are equally as racist in how they attack and vilify Trump supporters, in that case, everything goes. These people are the worst hypocrites.

*And when he is getting impeached or indicted or just started a war, or something equally stupid, he will call some a ni*err, straight up.

If he gets impeached, but from the looks of it, it seems less likely.

And all his defenders will tell us that's not racist. 'Cause rap music and all the stupid reasons they have given us today.

If you believe that he's a racist.

Personally, it is kinda sad. Modern racists just don't seem to really have the courage that their ancestors had. I bet Jefferson Davis is ashamed of these punks.

You don't think Liz Warren lying about her racial heritage to get into university was not a racist act, taking advantage of a minority group or Nancy Pelosi and her racist comment "the five white guys" to the immigration team, they should open up a hamburger stand. That was as offensive and racist as it gets, but we give her a pass because insulting white people is ok, but insulting minorities is bad, How about all forms or racist outbursts towards any racial group is bad. The left doesn't get to cherry pick.

It's a bit baffling why it's not considered a pilgrimage site for people who love freedom and self-determination on the caliber of Boston and D.C.

Very true, so what you are saying, we have to inject more money into a failed country and rebuild it because of their history, it's now our responsibility?

Saying stuff like this is probably what keeps most of his delusional supporters from turning on him.

You may be on to something. Certainly for the Left, hatred for cis-gender white males is what keeps them in a perpetual state of rage. Wouldn’t be out of the question for some on the Right to also feel likewise racially aggrieved.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Racist, not racist? Fight!

And no one's talking about Trump being a super stable genius anymore. Funny how that works.

IOW, yeah, Trump will spew some worse crap as his, admini..[bluh], as his aministra.. [bluhhh]... Sorry.

Knowing Trump supporters, they wouldn't even try to deny this one. They label those countries the same way as their Don does.

Thinking about it. Is Trump smarter than we think he is? This whole agreeing and disagreeing with the DACA and immigration thing within the White House. Saying stuff like this is probably what keeps most of his delusional supporters from turning on him.

Thunder: . after all, a country with a gun culture, a crazy leader and rampant poverty is a shthole, right?

A country with rampant socialism will inevitably become a s***hole (see present day Venezuela). In America it started in the big cities and is spreading via the Federal government mandates. America is well on its way. A $20 trillion national debt and growing all but guarantees that.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Once again we're stuck discussing Trump making another ridiculously stupid statement, instead of criticizing his policies.

Strangerland, these ARE his policies.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Thank you smithinjapan

That anyone would refute Trump's DOCUMENTED record of failure and injustice is also why they don't understand why we reject and refute him and his followers.

@smithinjapan

Well, them and the uneducated

I sense a bit of condescension in your comment, but who do you think the 'uneducated' should have voted for if not Trump, and why? It's an genuine question.

Can you honestly claim that a blue collar worker at Walmart would have been better off under a Clinton presidency where promises of legalising millions were being made, rather than under a Trump presidency where restrictions on immigration and a physical wall to limit the supply of cheap labour was being offered? It seems to me that the 'uneducated' made a perfectly rational economic choice. The democratic party in America is quickly moving away from being the party of the working class thanks to its immigration policies. We see the same phenomenon with leftwing parties across the English speaking world as they attempt to assemble a new electoral base. The 'uneducated' are at least smart enough to correctly perceive this shift and act accordingly in their own self interest.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Serrano: "One of the reasons Trump was elected is he's not pc."

Yes, by the KKK (formerly known as), know called White Supremicists, who elected him because he's flat out racist. Well, them and the uneducated, many of whom are also racist because they buy into Trump's garbage. If you support and defend his comments, you are 100% as bad, and worse.

"Um, no, Super, mainly just the libs."

At least you admit he's racist and don't deny it. So what does that make you, supporting him?

"Amazing how no one accused Trump of racism until he ran for president."

Hmmm... and after I just said he's supported largely by the uneducated. I guess you haven't read all the cases of where he's been sued for RACIAL discrimination since the '70s? But how about a breakdown of just a few for you:

"1973: The US Department of Justice — under the Nixon administration, out of all administrations — sued the Trump Management Corporation for violating the Fair Housing Act. Federal officials found evidence that Trump had refused to rent to black tenants and lied to black applicants about whether apartments were available, among other accusations. Trump said the federal government was trying to get him to rent to welfare recipients. In the aftermath, he signed an agreement in 1975 agreeing not to discriminate to renters of color without admitting to discriminating before.

1980s: Kip Brown, a former employee at Trump's Castle, accused another one of Trump's businesses of discrimination. "When Donald and Ivana came to the casino, the bosses would order all the black people off the floor," Brown said. "It was the eighties, I was a teenager, but I remember it: They put us all in the back."

1988: In a commencement speech at Lehigh University, Trump spent much of his speech accusing countries like Japan of "stripping the United States of economic dignity." This matches much of his current rhetoric on China.

1989: In a controversial case that’s been characterized as a modern-day lynching, four black teenagers and one Latino teenager — the "Central Park Five" — were accused of attacking and raping a jogger in New York City. Trump immediately took charge in the case, running an ad in local papers demanding, "BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!" The teens’ convictions were later vacated after they spent seven to 13 years in prison, and the city paid $41 million in a settlement to the teens. But Trump in October 2016 said he still believes they’re guilty, despite the DNA evidence to the contrary.

1991: A book by John O’Donnell, former president of Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, quoted Trump’s criticism of a black accountant: "Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day. … I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It’s not anything they can control." Trump at first denied the remarks, but later said in a 1997 Playboy interview that "the stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true."

1992: The Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino had to pay a $200,000 fine because it transferred black and women dealers off tables to accommodate a big-time gambler’s prejudices.

2000: In opposition to a casino proposed by the St. Regis Mohawk tribe, which he saw as a financial threat to his casinos in Atlantic City, Trump secretly ran a series of ads suggesting the tribe had a "record of criminal activity [that] is well documented."

2004: In season two of The Apprentice, Trump fired Kevin Allen, a black contestant, for being overeducated. "You're an unbelievably talented guy in terms of education, and you haven’t done anything," Trump said on the show. "At some point you have to say, ‘That’s enough.’"

2005: Trump publicly pitched what was essentially The Apprentice: White People vs. Black People. He said he "wasn't particularly happy" with the most recent season of his show, so he was considering "an idea that is fairly controversial — creating a team of successful African Americans versus a team of successful whites. Whether people like that idea or not, it is somewhat reflective of our very vicious world."

2010: In 2010, there was a huge national controversy over the "Ground Zero Mosque" — a proposal to build a Muslim community center in Lower Manhattan, near the site of the 9/11 attacks. Trump opposed the project, calling it "insensitive," and offered to buy out one of the investors in the project. On The Late Show With David Letterman, Trump argued, referring to Muslims, "Well, somebody’s blowing us up. Somebody’s blowing up buildings, and somebody’s doing lots of bad stuff."

2011: Trump played a big role in pushing false rumors that Obama — the country’s first black president — was not born in the US. He even sent investigators to Hawaii to look into Obama's birth certificate. Obama later released his birth certificate, calling Trump a "carnival barker." (The research has found a strong correlation between "birtherism," as this conspiracy theory is called, and racism.) Trump has reportedly continued pushing this conspiracy theory in private.

2011: While Trump suggested that Obama wasn’t born in the US, he also argued that maybe Obama wasn’t a good enough student to have gotten into Columbia or Harvard Law School, and demanded Obama release his university transcripts. Trump claimed, "I heard he was a terrible student. Terrible. How does a bad student go to Columbia and then to Harvard?"

https://www.vox.com/2016/7/25/12270880/donald-trump-racism-history

And this is just from one of MANY articles on the subject. So, Serrano, again, what does it say about you that not only are you flat out wrong, or just lying, about Trump "never having been accused of being a racist until running for president"?

Oh my!

6 ( +9 / -3 )

"Most people criticize Trump for his racism"

Um, no, Super, mainly just the libs. Amazing how no one accused Trump of racism until he ran for president.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

SuperLib: The President of the US shouldn't be saying such things.

I agree wholeheartedly. That said, Haiti is undeniably one of the worst places to live on the planet. Never heard of Nancy Pelosi or Obama going their on holiday.

The Left is working overtime to make this into a racial issue - well because isn’t everything about race for the Left! If the people of Haiti (generally speaking) were so great then the country of Haiti would not be such a corrupt and impoverished place. I really wish Trump wasn’t so crude and crass - but he isn’t wrong in his assessment. Of course much the same can be said of some areas of Detroit and Los Angeles.

America should admit folks from Haiti and other countries that are hard working and share American values and not write them all off as Trump did. People should be treated on an individual basis. That is the worst thing about the Democrat party and well, Trump is a former Democrat.

When it comes to being un-Presidential he is the worst since Lyndon ( “I’ll have those n** voting Democrat for 200 years”) Johnson.

The other damaging Trump quotes have been leaked or openly passed on by by people who actually worked with him and for him in his circus of an administration, hence the stuff in the Wolff book and god knows how many newspaper and magazine articles.

Ok and so what? Do you think that the news anchors you see on TV every night have a clean mouth? You should hear what they say off camera, it'd blow your mind.

I'm confused. He didn't say anything about anyone's race. He said something bad about the countries.

As for why people from less advantaged counties keep trying to get to the USA, I cannot say, but I can guess that even the racist USA is better, in their eyes, than their current country.

I can only hope that all the employees working in Trump locations from those less advantaged countries walk off the job and/or refuse to provide any service to him. They probably won't, but it would be a bold statement.

That's not racist, the stats don't lie, when you look at the data on crimes committed by illegals or people from 3rd world nations, it's very scary.

Well, then, show us the stats.

And while we're at it, let's break down your comment a little more . . .

*crimes committed by illegals or people from *3rd world nations

You're equating the two? Can you clarify? Are Somalians illegals? Or you and your boss simply don't like them because they come from a sh**h***? (And BTW "3rd world" was considered offensive before you were born. Even in Japan "sangokujin" got Ishihara in trouble.) I don't know about you, but my mama taught me to treat those less fortunate with a little more dignity.

This guy is president, for f's sake.

"Give me your poor, your tired, . . ." all out the door now. Just tear down the Statue of Liberty while you're at it, or just rename it SOL in honor of her gen-i-us president.

We had 8 years of an administration that practiced reverse racism

No we didn't, and I defy you to prove otherwise. You can't, and you won't.

@realDonaldTrump, your mouth is the foulest shthole in the world. With what authority do you proclaim who’s welcome in America and who’s not. America’s greatness is built on diversity, or have you forgotten your immigrant background, Donald?*

So true!

You're quoting Fox? The man that did nothing to stop curtail the drug cartel problems in his own country. That's like Liz Warren bad mouthing Elijah Cummings. Anyway, it's a weak argument, we are all immigrants and we all come from somewhere. Our greatness is indeed diversity, but we should be selective in that process.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

He is making it a better place by scrutinizing who can come in and who can't.

Wrong! His Muslim ban failed.

Love former Mexican president Vicente Fox's comment:

@realDonaldTrump, your mouth is the foulest sh*thole in the world. With what authority do you proclaim who’s welcome in America and who’s not. America’s greatness is built on diversity, or have you forgotten your immigrant background, Donald?

So true!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Your continued, 'I wouldn't have said that but he does have a point' is wearing thin. Feel free to call Trump what he is at some point.

A GEN-I-US

Surely even you have your limits as to what is acceptable for a POTUS to say.

I didn't like that he said it out loud meaning in saying that, a lot of people would take it the wrong way, but as I have said before, he is not saying anything what a lot of people think, but wouldn't say in public. Look what Diane Feinstein said. There's another story that the liberals so conveniently gloss over. You could call her a racist as well or a sell out, depending on where you fall racially.

When you go about calling them a "burden" before they've arrived you're off to a bad start.

Many are. Being painfully honest doesn't make you bad, it makes you a realist.

When you call them trash and other labels on top of that, and more racist terms as your president loves to do, calling Mexicans rapists, and black people from bumholes (but welcome white people of European descent!),

That's not racist, the stats don't lie, when you look at the data on crimes committed by illegals or people from 3rd world nations, it's very scary. But serious, you want to take a vacation to Somalia? I've been there and to tell you the truth, if I were a Somali, I would get out as fast as I could and the same goes for El Salvador and many other 3rd world nations. These places are sad to say, but as Trump described it, I'm not racist and I don't believe the President is at all racist, his son in law is Jewish and his recent spokesperson was Black, so there goes that weak argument.

you're off to an even worse start... or in the case of the people who support Trump, a continuation. And when those people come in and contribute more than Trump has ever done in his life (which is just picking up a hammer and pounding in a nail), it's become blatantly clear the butthole Trump speaks of is the place these unfortunate people have chosen to go, made as such by Trump and his supporters despite the efforts of many elsewhere to contribute to making it a better place. Trump has made the US more of an S-hole than it has ever been in history, and will succeed in making it even more of a dump before he's kicked out.

He is making it a better place by scrutinizing who can come in and who can't. Funny, if you look at the people Trump has attacked on a personal level they're all white, so he hates white people as well? Come on guys, I am seriously worried about you, the race card spiel is losing its luster and allure, y'all need to come up some other emotional outburst that will draw attention. We had 8 years of an administration that practiced reverse racism and not a word from the left and now when this President tries to make a fair playing field, he's racist? Smh.

So I don't care what language he uses, as long he does a good job, or at least doesn't send the country down the toilet.

Totally agree. I think most Mexicans would as well. If the US economy weren't so good the last several months you wouldn't have the dramatic increase in border crossings compared to this time last year.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Why would any Norwegian want to give up their great healthcare and emigrate to the States?

I know a Norwegian couple that came to the U.S. and they love it far more than their home country. I wanted to know the reason and they said it felt much easier to live a full and rewarding life here.

bass

Your continued, 'I wouldn't have said that but he does have a point' is wearing thin. Feel free to call Trump what he is at some point. Surely even you have your limits as to what is acceptable for a POTUS to say.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Hey, your country was meant to be the Mecca for people from all over the world wanting a new life, to 'better themselves' and to be a part of the 'American Dream'...

Yes, it is, but that doesn't mean, we have to unconditionally take in everyone because they want to come in, that's just plain nuts. I don't want the US to have the same problems that Europe has. I want to avoid that at all cost.

isn't that part of your constitution that all men are created equal? Or does that only apply to people from nice, rich countries?

That has nothing to do with the person, of course we are all created equal. Anatomically as well as physically, there are no differences between me and a Jihadist other than, he wants to kill me because I'm an infidel, so because as a human he's my equal, but religiously, I am inferior, I have to open my doors and take him in? I'm not stupid! You libs need to step it up a bit. Amazingly, you don't have to be a racist to want to have strict and legal immigration or if you want to be selective as your right as to who is allowed into this country and who isn't.

They say that people become more right wing as they get older - at this rate Trump will be sporting a small moustache and sponsoring eugenics research by the time he hits 80.

Anyway.... But to that point, you do become wiser, usually, so that's why I do have hope for liberals. I hope you know the Margaret Sanger was liberal that practiced eugenics on Blacks.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

On behalf of the majority of Americans, I apologize for our President's insane remarks.

Mr. Trump, please resign.

bass4funk: "That doesn’t mean we have to be the YMCA and take in everyone that knocks on our door. You have Canada and Australia can take some of the burden as well."

When you go about calling them a "burden" before they've arrived you're off to a bad start. When you call them trash and other labels on top of that, and more racist terms as your president loves to do, calling Mexicans rapists, and black people from bumholes (but welcome white people of European descent!), you're off to an even worse start... or in the case of the people who support Trump, a continuation.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Amazing how "conservatism" is now proudly associated with foul language, bigotry, ignorance, and spirited deception.

Good job, Trump supporters.

Most politicians think like Trump, but they don't speak like Trump. Therein lies the difference.

Not sure about that tbh. I think most politicians make the distinction between so called 'sh**hole countries' (aka 'third world countries' in the civilised world) and the ppl who live there. And I don't think they share the same disdain (for those countries) either. Not wanting 'those ppl' to migrate en masse to your country is one thing, expressing contempt & disgust is a completely different story.

The president was referring to African countries and Haiti, and then suggested the United States should welcome immigrants from places like Norway,

This made me chuckle, heard similar stuff dozens of times. Often clueless rednecks/bogans feeling entitled to 'good migrants' from 'rich countries' i.e. 'we don't want no one from cr*p countries mate'.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

How about go to norway and get a passport. Then stay in Norway ?

i lived in Sweden and Denmark for a short time. I’m not Scandinavian. It was bloody cold and language was difficult.

Trump is out of control. He reminds me of the Sex Pistols, but a white redneck version.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Maybe Trump should remember what was written on the Statue of Liberty?

"Give me your tired, your poor,Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Don't you claim to employed in media?

Yes, I am

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Trump is a racist, and this comment proves it even more. Anyone who defends him and the comment is just as big a racist, and anyone who supports it is possibly even more a racist than Trump. It's little surprise his largest fan base are Nazis. Period.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I think that you may find that many, if not most, presidents have their moments of vulgarity and profanity. The difference is that today, there are recording devices everywhere, no space for private comments. Plus, the media is hypersensitive and tuned in to the most picayune stories about Trump that will confirm their general narrative. Anything to start clutching their pearls and expressing their faux outrage. Yeah, Trump talks like, well, talks like he's from New York City. Big surprise there...

Not to mention, it is accurate. Most of Africa is unlivable, destitute, and hopelessly corrupt.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

I think he was speaking trash.

Yes, about time he did.

Trump has a documented history as being a liar.

And media has an even worse reputation

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

@bas4 So we HAVE to take in every single immigrant because we are the USA?

No one has ever said that. That's another exaggeration.

I think he was speaking the honest truth.

I think he was speaking trash.

and now you expect the man to be a liar or would you rather have him be direct?

Trump has a documented history as being a liar.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Some people are correct, others are wrong.

True that.

The universal response was that speaking like an uneducated teenager is not effective or befitting a national leader.

OK and you are free to have that opinionated outlook, I have a different one.

Do you think the president of the US should call other countries “s###holes”?

In public or in private? Either way, when the mics are off, a lot of Presidents have used colorful and salty language.

Should these countries just not listen or just walk away?

Walk away.

Is this a good way for leaders of powerful countries to behave? Call other countries “s###holes” and blame them for being too thin-skinned if they don’t like it?

No, but we are talking about Trump and now you expect the man to be a liar or would you rather have him be direct? Stop wishing for him to stop saying what falls from his lips, he will always speak his mind, don't lose sleep over it, always have and always will.

Is he a racist? Sure. Is everyone a racist? Absolutely, to some degree. So I don't care what language he uses, as long he does a good job, or at least doesn't send the country down the toilet.

Thank you very much, hit that out of the park.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Tommy - "That's not what I wrote. My words were clear."

If your words were clear, you would have written, "The POTUS should not be using the language many Americans use, because he is the President, and should sound presidential, because that is how it is usually done, and no one should question how things are usually done, because that wouldn't be right, because these countries would be offended, even though that's what he and many Americans think."

We know the type of guy in the White House now, and if he doesn't sound like the most intelligent politician out there and uses vulgarities, so be it. That's what got him elected.

Is he a racist? Sure. Is everyone a racist? Absolutely, to some degree. So I don't care what language he uses, as long he does a good job, or at least doesn't send the country down the toilet.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

America was built from immigrants from many countries including slaves from the African continent. The wealth of the country was also built, partly on cheap imports of raw materials from places like the African continent. The continent of Africa is rich in raw materials and resources but paid the penalty from white Europe and America.

Doesn't change the fact that many of those countries, not only in Africa, but in other poor countries or better 3rd world war torn countries that these places are horrible, has nothing to do with the people themselves, but how they politically been ravaged.

America and Europe relies on the cheap African and Asian imports.

Had those countries received their true worths many of them wouldn't now be those "shithole countries" claimed by Trump. There wouldn't be the same European refugee crisis.

I'm not buying that for a second! Most of these countries have out of control corrupt politicians, so no matter how much money you give to them, the leaders would just take it and use it on themselves or to keep their military happy.

So now the president can turn his attention to the 14%/43 million Americans living below the poverty rate?

What's wrong with that? So we HAVE to take in every single immigrant because we are the USA? We are not allowed to see who qualifies or if some of these people have criminal histories or if they are a threat to us. Just because we should scrutinize more thoroughly as to who can come in and who can't doesn't mean we are racist.

Its the moral duty of the rich countries to help the less fortunate especially when they have been economically raping those countries for centuries.

Where does it say that and who said that specifically?

Poverty isn't a local problem, its a global international one. More than one third of total global food production ends up mostly in western landfills. Along with more than 50% of all manufactured clothes. We are polluting the seas with huge amounts of plastic waste.

So what's your point.

The majority of people have no real desires to leave the areas of their births but are forced to due to extreme levels of poverty. Four billion people have no source to clean running drinkable water. About the same have no toilets. Many children will try to sleep tonight.

We get that, but that doesn't mean that because many of these people come from violent countries we have to let them in on any permanent basis. Especially that many of them have higher rates of committing crimes.

Trump's remark is nothing more than a cheap slap in the face, not what we expect from a president.

I think he was speaking the honest truth.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

Classiest post-war president by miles.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

@Clamenza

There is clearly an argument to be had on immigration requiring honesty.

So, are you going to be honest on the point of Trump calling countries “shitholes”?

It is rancid trash unbecoming of a US president, isn’t it?

Let’s have honesty all the way for a change.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I think people should be able to say what they want and if you don't like it, don't listen or walk away.

Do you think the president of the US should call other countries “s###holes”?

Is this a good way for leaders of powerful countries to behave? Call other countries “s###holes” and blame them for being too thin-skinned if they don’t like it?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Zichi- you are completely wrong. The United States never had, and does not have a moral duty to take in every economic migrant that illegally crosses her borders.

The United States has always admitted immigrants from every corner of the world, but has a rule of law to see that those coming over do not flood the system while at the same time share and respect American values.

Are you, Zichi, willing to pay the increased taxes necessary to take in these millions of migrants that will demand housing, education, healthcare ? More importantly, are you willing to guarantee the safety of Americans in cities into which these unchecked people flood?

absolute foolishness.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

I'm direct, but I never worry about anyone stepping up in my face, it has happened, but it never got physical and with good reason.

The Billy Big Bollocks approach. Very sophisticated.

Being direct and not being an arse are not mutually exclusive. The inability to express oneself without vulgarity is a mark of ignorance, which means it's no surprise Trump chose a profane word.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The jokers on here defending Trump are beyond belief. It's like entering an alternative reality, reading their nonsense. Huckabee Sanders gets paid an awful lot of money to defend the indefensible; what do these people do it for?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Tommy - You don't think a lot of Americans don't think the same as the POTUS? Puleeeeease

That's not what I wrote. My words were clear.

Well, well... a liberal with the cohonies to finally admit the truth.

Yes, the truth being that POTUS should posses at least enough sophistication to use appropriate words.

People's feelings got hurt. That's all.

Not that I'm aware of. People did taste vomit in the back of their mouths bevause POTUS has no tact.

Let's not tell the truth because people will emotionally shatter. Isn't that the precise meaning of political correctness?

No. The precise definition of political correctness is speaking truth without being an arse.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Some people don’t seem to be able to get their head around the idea that the president of the US shouldn’t be acting like an angry father using trash language to scold his child, a drunk spouting rancid conspiracy theories in a bar or a petulant child not getting his own way.

Some people think that, others don't feel that way.

Do you go around using the rudest, most tactless language you can, even if its true? I'll bet you don't or you're missing a few teeth.

I'm direct, but I never worry about anyone stepping up in my face, it has happened, but it never got physical and with good reason. I think people should be able to say what they want and if you don't like it, don't listen or walk away. I think nowadays people are too thin-skinned.

Well, well... a liberal with the cohonies to finally admit the truth. People's feelings got hurt. That's all. Let's not tell the truth because people will emotionally shatter. Isn't that the precise meaning of political correctness?

Trump unfortunately does matter.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

To be honest, I might not have said what Trump said in that format, but he does have a point. I know the left will call the man racist and whatever euphemism they can come up with, but on the extreme, Haiti is one of the poorest nation in the western hemisphere and Norway one of the richest European countries, So given the choice, where would you want to live? El Salvador or Denmark? Somalia or Austria? Be honest with yourself, stop taking a visceral and keep the emotion out of it. What makes those countries desirable or livable? I've been to Somalia in the mid 90's on assignment and it is one of the worst places to be on the planet, I'm not a racist, but I would never, ever want to live in a place like that and if someone asks you what was it like, then I would have to say pretty much what the President said, but does that make me a racist? Absolutely not, it's a fact and many of the Somalians that I have met through the years, I really don't any that would want to go back and for many Haitians as well. If they have a choice of staying in the States or another developed country or going back to their home of origin, of course they would rather stay in their adopted home.

The answer to the Dotard's question can be found written on the Statue of Liberty.

Well if it’s true when we try to send them back why isn’t it true when we want to prevent them from entering?

Liberals all aghast when we try to return refugees back to those places and others, “it’s inhumane and heartless to send these people back to such horrible places!” cry the liberals.

so if these places don’t suck after all then their refugees can all go back, right?

That is not what anyone is complaining about or saying here. We are complaining that a man in his 70s does not possess the couthness to employ a lexicon befitting the office which he occupies.

and by this you mean that 'merica should only allow white christian immigrants in? the america that you are pining for no longer exists. it has been replaced with a vibrant multicultural society. and this will only increase as the century progresses. within a decade, you will be a minority. and you better hope that those dirty black and brown and asian politicians make laws that favor everyone, not only the ruling class.

This is a good opportunity for Japan, Norway, Canada, and other liberal democracies to take in all these immigrants that America does not want and show the world what compassion is.

You owe me a new keyboard! JAPAN take in immigrants?

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Can you prove he said it?

There was no denial in the WH's public statement, so it is almost impossible to make this argument. Though, some will certainly try.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Like a lot of people haven't already been thinking the same thing. Puleeeeease!

POTUS is not "a lot of people."

Lots of African countries and Haiti have governments that are corrupt beyond repair, which is why so much of their population jump at the chance to escape. His terminology may be too crass for you, but it's refreshing that he's not mincing words. Rather he tell me how he truly feels than pretend for the sake of political correctness.

There is no need to pretend, but POTUS is expected to at least be somewhat couth.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Also, America is a land of legal immigrants, NOT ILLEGAL immigrants. Since when did the term illegal come to mean undocumented?

Since when did legal immigration from "sh*thole" countries (Trump's words, not mine), come to mean the same thing as illegal immigration?

What Trump's comments and now your own shows, is that it was never about legal/illegal immigration, rather its all about keeping minorities out of the country.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

He's already said they all have AIDS, so how is this much worse? The man is an insensitive bigot; it's a known fact. The deniers will continue to deny it no matter what. Pretty fun to watch Sanders on her way to her big meltdown, though. Spicer looks one hell of a lot relaxed nowadays.

Becks is a great choice. Got all the money in the world, but he chose to live where? Where?

He has several homes, including one in California. You know, that liberal, sanctuary state. What was your point again?

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Old man, kindergarten vocabulary.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Like a lot of people haven't already been thinking the same thing. Puleeeeease!

A lot of people have also been thinking that of the US. For a long time.

Lots of African countries and Haiti have governments that are corrupt beyond repair

Want to talk about the donations to GOP lawmakers ? The US can hardly complain about other countries corruption, you know ?

His terminology may be too crass for you, but it's refreshing that he's not mincing words. Rather he tell me how he truly feels than pretend for the sake of political correctness.

Except that by doing this he's isolating the US. As said above, his trip to the UK is definitely cancelled. Where next ? If he continues, he won't be welcome anywhere. How is he supposed to "negotiate" or "deal" after that ?

But if for you, becoming a pariah country is a good price to pay to have a president that says what he feels, be my guest.

But once people get a taste of that elixir known as American culture (think sunny L.A. weather, girls in bikinis, tats and more tats), more than a few will be trying to climb the border walls to enter the land of plenty of stuff.

And more than 40 million people living under the poverty line. Such a great country you have !

5 ( +9 / -4 )

It's true there are countries whose governments can't say no to corruption and keep a brain drain from happening, but Trump should know that immigration from those countries is what built America. For example how many Americans claim Irish ancestry? About 19% of the total population. That was considered a "shithole country" for good portions of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Permission to immigrate should depend on a clean criminal record, family or business ties or other important status, not on whether your home country has their crap together or looks pretty to racist people or not.

He must have said it to generate more media furor to whip up his fan base. "I said what no one wants to hear and look how I'm being persecuted by the media for it! Sad!"

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Disgusting man. Nothing can stop vile words coming out of his mouth unless his dentures slip right out.

On another note, the vile man has chickened out of going to London to open the embassy. Shame. I was looking forward to seeing how his visit would pan out. Many many people would have been there to 'greet' him.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Oh, another approach just came to me .

Can you prove he said it?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Yet another foul stench from the potty.

Perhaps his supporters will applaud it as an example of straight talking. I can’t think of another angle.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Not a great choice here, when making references to Norway.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Obviously, Trump doesn't know about the Bill of Rights: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal".

The WH doubled down by not denying it and said that his base would appreciate his remarks. "staffers predict the comment would resonate with Trump's base"

In other words, the WH is saying Trump is a racist, his base are racists, and the Bill of Rights only applies if you are white.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

As for the Norway thing, yeah, it's a very secure country (except for that one guy who killed 77 people). But once people get a taste of that elixir known as American culture (think sunny L.A. weather, girls in bikinis, tats and more tats), more than a few will be trying to climb the border walls to enter the land of plenty of stuff. In a perfect world yes, but as everyone knows the world and he are far from it. so no, they reflect HIS (lack) of values.

10 ( +17 / -7 )

"He's trying to win me back." — Conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

I think Ms. Ed is speaking for some of Trump's base, especially the white nationalists who've been wavering in their support for Ol' Bonespurs. Many will now jump back on the Trump train as it continues along its path, further weakening America in the eyes of the world. Trump's further dividing an already divided country. Putin, Xi and other despots worldwide must be smiling.
