This is what happens when you elect a guy with a 5th grader's vocabulary--he simply doesn't have the appropriate word on hand when required. He flails around and grabs ahold of the first term he can latch onto--"honored," yeah, that might work.

Of course, to the remotely educated he sounds like a bipolar gerbil. George W. must be thrilled to have the title of dumbest POTUS in history change hands.

19 ( +20 / -1 )

He can go meet Kim in Pyongyang. And stay there.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

"So obviously, he's a pretty smart cookie,"

he simply doesn't have the appropriate word

Great leaders are great communicators. Trump is neither. Smart cookie?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp1wdJKpIh8

In the above link Trump says what he thinks the best word is. Trump's gump-ianism on daily display.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

At the same time maybe it's better a guy like Trump talk to Kim than somebody else.

How would you know? He's obviously buttering him up by saying he would be honored which is such Trump nonsense.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Total war threat and now potential golfing buddies? (Un prefers basketball)

Continue talking with China and Russia is best, you know, as Obama did.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Seems obvious Trump has a thing for dictators like Kim, Putin, Erdogan, and Duterte.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

It was one said that 'jaw jaw is better than war war'

I tend to agree.

And wouldn't it be great to one day see a Trump Tower in

Pyongyang?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

He insults the leaders of Germany, Australia, Canada, and Mexico, but wants to cozy up to the thugs running Russia, China, the Philippines, Egypt, Turkey, and now North Korea.

Hey, remember when we used to be the beacon of freedom and human rights in the world? Good times.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

It was one said that 'jaw jaw is better than war war'

So thought Neville Chamberlain and others in the 1930's, thinking that they could convince Hitler with words, and afraid to use anything stronger than words to stop his rise. Words only work when backed with the real threat of force, period.

North Korea is not Nazi Germany in size, but it is in fanaticism, and unlike the Nazis, the North Koreans have nuclear weapons. They also are increasing their ability to deliver these weapons. For the past 30 years the world has been "jaw jaw-ing" with North Korea, and rather than improving peace, each year things become ever more dangerous.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Seems obvious Trump has a thing for dictators like Kim, Putin, Erdogan, and Duterte.

D30? A democratically elected official? I guess the definition of dictatorship is lost on you.

Hey, remember when we used to be the beacon of freedom and human rights in the world? Good times.

Sure. That was... Never. Since it's inception, the nation's been involved in one squamish or another in every continent on this globe.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

If these two play their cards right, they could become best buddies!!!

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Trump's main gambit has been to encourage China to use its leverage to pressure Pyongyang -- a strategy that has failed to produce results in the past.

Probably because the Chinese would like to see a conflict between US / Japan and NK and take advantage where they can.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

He insults the leaders of Germany, Australia, Canada, and Mexico, but wants to cozy up to the thugs running Russia, China, the Philippines, Egypt, Turkey, and now North Korea.

And many of these leaders equally insulted him, you punch me and I should I should take it, doesn't work like that. Leaders often insult each other, they're not babies and if an ally gets his/her feelings hurt over exchanged words, then they were never a true ally, to begin with. The US needs all the help it can get and Trump is trying his best and to even contemplate on sitting with that kid shows that the man is pretty much using every and all tools available to him to stop this guy.

Hey, remember when we used to be the beacon of freedom and human rights in the world? Good times.

We still are, the difference is, the last 8 years the former president decided to sit everything out and this is what we now have a giant mess.

-18 ( +0 / -18 )

if an ally gets his/her feelings hurt over exchanged words, then they were never a true ally, to begin with.

You realize that you just said that the USA is not an ally of any country on the planet (except maybe Russia), right?

For everything President Trump does, I ask myself: "What would Hillary do?"

And I breathe a sigh of relief that she can't.

-16 ( +1 / -17 )

Leaders often insult each other, they're not babies

They aren't. Trump is.

I hope Trump doesn't crack a bad hair joke with Kim - he wiretapping gag with Merkel left the chancellor looking at Trump as if he'd just broken wind. Let's hope he doesn't lose his temper like he did with that notoriously dangerous, insulting, hair-trigger tempered Malcolm Turnbull.

Whatever your view on the legitimacy of meeting Kim, Trump is not the man you want in this situation. The difference between being the loudmouth in the boardroom, bullying and talking about p___y grabbing and situations like this is very different.

Trump has admitted this president business is more difficult than he first thought. Stick to the golf and campaign-style rallies.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

"His point was he assumed power at a young age when his father passed away and there's a lot of potential threats that could have come his way and he's obviously managed to lead a country forward,” said Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Not the first time someone at the WH feels the need to rephrase, and explain, DT's statements. My favourite part was this one "He's dealing with obviously very tough people, in particular the generals and others." That's 8yo boy stuff all right i.e someone's strong, war/armies are involved and you have 'in particular ... and others' in the same sentence.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Trump had better watch out: Kim's dad was a master at golf, once scoring five holes-in-one in a single round. If his son is up to the same standard Trump will get soundly thrashed on the golf course and he won't like that one bit.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The NK media will be all over that one.

Recall the DPRK media, i.e. Kim, liked Trump before the election. Bad haircuts of a feather?

That's more believable than Muslims dancing on 7/11, birtherism and the largest inauguration in history.

Trump could outbulls### the North Koreans small hands down.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

You realize that you just said that the USA is not an ally of any country on the planet (except maybe Russia), right?

It was hypothetical, come on now.

They aren't. Trump is.

They'll get over it.

I personally could care less, if lil' Kim can't take it, then he shouldn't dish it, that will be for Trump to decide.

Whatever your view on the legitimacy of meeting Kim, Trump is not the man you want in this situation. The difference between being the loudmouth in the boardroom, bullying and talking about p___y grabbing and situations like this is very different.

No, he's exactly the one I want in this situation and I hope he puts as much pressure as he can on the man with our allies.

Trump has admitted this president business is more difficult than he first thought. Stick to the golf and campaign-style rallies.

I admire his honesty at least he admits it's more than what he expected, all presidents....well, never mind, one of them felt a power equickening, but that's past us. I just hope and pray that he, China and the rest of our allies can quell this situation.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

Cunning political move by Trump.

China has urged him to go the dialogue path. We all know that won't work with the insane North Korean leadership.

But Trump has called the bluff...

Watching this space.

It is like that scene in that Star Trek movie when they went back to 20th century San Francisco to save the whales. Spock and Kirk are on a street car and they are talking about whose destiny or something and Spock says something like

"You know the old saying, Jim, 'Only Nixon could go to China'"

I could never comprehend what that meant more than 75%, but it becomes clearer now with Trump and Kim. Some marriages are made in heaven - no, sorry, hell!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

If only you'd concede the same to Obama. But you're so one sided in your attack against Obama that when you say things like this about Trump you come off as a hypocrite.

No, never been. But I know to liberals it seems like, I've been on Trump a few times, so don't worry, it's just I was more critical about the progressive policies that were destroying the country in the previous administration.

On the other hand, you attack Obama until you're blue in the face, yet you won't admit that Trump is a cracked egg.

There was a lot to criticize him on, especially when it came to the economy, healthcare and foreign policy.

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

This is what the NK regime has been asking for all these years, to be admired, loved and treated equally by the USA. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Trump and/or someone in his team spotted this, then kudos to that person, if this is the one way out of the pickle.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Trump has neither an encomic, healthcare, or foreign policy.

Lowering the tax rate to 15-20% is an economic policy, a huge one at that. Morning.

Just an obnoxious ego and cunning to fool people like yourself.

Lol, I see... it's that the left is still angry about the election outcome and never thought or even tried to bring jobs back or lower the tax rate and the gasoline tax, great! Now we can really start to focus on infrastructure which the Dems love because that means more union jobs and Dems love that! Win, win situation.

And keep fooling yourself into thinking it's a liberal versus conservative thing. But not all conservatives are stupid, but all stupid people happen to be conservatives.

Yeah, it is, when every liberal in Washington says, they'll oppose Trump, without a doubt, it's a liberal/conservative thing.

If liberals are so smart, why is it they control the least amount of the public legislative (over 1000 lost) branch, very few gubernatorial positions? Lost the House, the Senate and still go on a rant, crashing public halls, screaming and whining and have their politicians curse up a storm and swore never to work with Trump and keep losing elections. Yeah, they're very smart alright.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Maybe trump is planning a Mark Antony style attack , on NK leader, like one on Julius Caesar.

might be hard to get close.

Seriously folks, we can all talk till we are blue in the face, but looks like we will have to be patient , and wait it out..

Remember many countries have nuclear weapons ( have a look on the board at Hiroshima museum)

Hopefully this is not the beginning of the end.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Many countries have nuclear weapons, yes, but by-and-large the rest of the world trusts that they will not use them. DPRK has not earned anyone's trust yet.

China and Russia are Frankenstein happy that for the time being NK is pointing its new toys away from them.

But has NK earned anyone's trust yet? Iran's? Syria's?

My suggestion to DPRK is to start learning how to be socially acceptable, to gain international trust and respect, and then everything else should fall into place. China has succeeded in that pretty well so far if you need an example to follow, (in your own way and time, of course).

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Many countries have nuclear weapons, yes, but by-and-large the rest of the world trusts that they will not use them. DPRK has not earned anyone's trust yet.

Really? There's only one country that has ever used them, and it's not the DPRK. And the DPRK hasn't invaded and destroyed any other countries in recent history either.

The DPRK may not be trustworthy, but neither have they done anything to indicate that everything they say is anything other than blustering and saber rattling.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

No, but NK are the ones threatening SK, Japan, causing headaches for the Chinese and giving growing concerns to the Australians as well. Now Trump could leave them alone, they keep shooting missiles, becoming more emboldened and threaten Japan and SK and ultimately the US on a larger and more precise and confident scale and seeing that Kim is under a lot of pressure to ensure his survival and killing his uncle, ex-girlfriend and his own brother and a bunch of his fathers top military leaders, oh, without a doubt, I would never put it past that guy to do anything, so Trump should do whatever is necessary to get rid of this cancer and if he has to bite his lib and throw a couple of burgers down Kim's throat to make him happy and pacify him, so be it.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

NK are the ones threatening SK, Japan, causing headaches for the Chinese and giving growing concerns to the Australians as well.

And America are the ones threatening NK, causing headaches for the Chinese, and giving growing concerns to SK, Japan, and Australians as well.

Yes, as a result of NK provocation and hostile actions done by them first to the Japanese.

Honored? Honored? Anyone with half a brain would feel disgusted to have to meet with him. But, oh well. Just more of Dumb, Dumb Donald idolizing his true heroes, dictators! I bet he is actually envious of him.

Makes me sick!

No one told NK to fire into the Sea of Japan. Again, come and threaten my brother, you're going to get tossed like a Caesar salad.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Again, come and threaten my brother, you're going to get tossed like a Caesar salad.

Are you going to enlist, or do you expect someone else's brother to toss and/or get tossed?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

one minute he's threatening to start a pre-emptive war with NK, and the next minute he would be honored to meet with kim. trump should be banned from giving interviews because he just contradicts everything he says. and sometimes in the same sentence!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Are you going to enlist, or do you expect someone else's brother to toss and/or get tossed?

I have 2 brothers and one cousin that are already serving and if I could enlist I would go, yes, sir.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

if I could enlist I would go, yes, sir.

I think that means Someone Else's Brother.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Whatever it takes.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

bass4funk: "No one told NK to fire into the Sea of Japan. Again, come and threaten my brother, you're going to get tossed like a Caesar salad."

Yeah, except that Trump JUST said "Kim's going to do what Kim's going to do -- I never said 'don't test another missile'", which the US DID actually say. So, is it Trump that did the 180, or do you just finally disagree with him (again, like when you called him 'lunatic') about what you'll do if he 'threatens your brother' again. Because, newsflash, Trump is not only NOT tossing him like Caesar salad or anything else, but is now saying he'd be honoured to meet him.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Thats great!!!! Obama met with Castro and the Mullahs, so Trump can and should try to use every avenue to calm the jets off this guy.

You categorically hated when Obama met with Castro and "the Mullahs" (anyway, please specify). So you must also hate Trump proposing meeting with Kim? I don't get it. I thought you hated hypocrisy.

I've never had any objection to talks between leaders. Talk is good. You were the one who was screaming bloody murder when Democrats (Clinton, Obama) proposed dialog. Now you love it.

As far as I'm concerned, Trump can go ahead and meet Kim face to face. Let's see what comes of it. Trump's record so far is not very promising, because he's a moron.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Interesting ideas. Obama meeting Castro was used as evidence of his socialist/communist leanings. His 'meeting' with the mullahs was used as evidence of his Muslim faith.

Trump saying he would be honoured to meet the leader of the cruelest and most dictatorial regime on the planet is evidence of.....

Oh, yes. His preparedness to talk and be open to all approaches.

In the words of our most eloquent poster, LMAO.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I'm going to give Trump the benefit of the doubt and hope that he just expressed himself poorly.

In the same article on another website (I checked, but they have since edited the article) Trump said something to effect that 'if there was a chance he could talk Kim out of nukes" he would do his best (and then bragged about how he could probably do it.)

What if... (and I'm really trying to look on his comments in a positive light) he meant he would be honored to do something to get rid of nukes in N. Korea, not to actually meet Kim??

Trump has never been well-spoken. Maybe this is one of those times?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

You categorically hated when Obama met with Castro and "the Mullahs" (anyway, please specify). So you must also hate Trump proposing meeting with Kim? I don't get it. I thought you hated hypocrisy.

The reason for that was because of him allowing that Nuclear botched deal to go through, that's why.

I've never had any objection to talks between leaders. Talk is good. You were the one who was screaming bloody murder when Democrats (Clinton, Obama) proposed dialog. Now you love it.

When trying to make deals with a dictator so that he can have fun in the sun in the tropics, yes, I generally have a fundamental problem with that as well as allowing radical Mullahs to march forward with their dream of building a bomb in the future to destroy Israel and eventually the US because of a religious prophecy, No, doesn't sit well with me at all.

As far as I'm concerned, Trump can go ahead and meet Kim face to face. Let's see what comes of it. Trump's record so far is not very promising, because he's a moron.

Naw, it's promising as long as the Dems stay out of his way. I don't like the situation any more than the rest of you, but you libs are funny, talk tough, he wants a war, sit down and have the dialogue with Kim of sorts, what on Earth is he thinking? How dare he stoop so low and to meet with this guy.

Yawn....anyway, it really doesn't matter what the left thinks or cries about, he and his military advisors will come up with an applicable solution, at least he listens to them, unlike the other guy that thought he knew better than the Generals.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

bass4funk: "but you libs are funny"

So... the "libs are funny" in your pointing out the sheer hypocrisy and 180s Trump has taken, and you have bought into hook, line, and sinker. Well done again, bass. When only a couple of hours ago you posted that "No one told NK to fire into the Sea of Japan. Again, come and threaten my brother, you're going to get tossed like a Caesar salad." then when pointed out NK did just what you threatened them to try, you've gone 180 with your dear leader and said "give him a chance!"

hahaha...

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Hypocrisy? Of course not.

When only a couple of hours ago you posted that "No one told NK to fire into the Sea of Japan.

That's right, so We either protect Japan and SK and the region, let Kim do what he wants, whenever he wants or we get in his face and say, No more. Take your pick. It's not a hard thing to do.

Formally known as the the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the nuclear deal with Iran was agreed by six world powers, Britain, France, Russia, China, the US and Germany.

Exactly, they all see dollar signs, so if they keep up their promise to destroy Israel one day, who cares. Well, that's all changed, thank God.

I am always hands up for proper civilized talks rather than mentally challenged nuclear threats. Anyone oppossed to this mostly wants strangers to suffer, I guess.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I gotta admit, I initially LOLed at this when I first read it. But just relax and think for a moment....what if they do meet, and somehow decreases the tension in the region? I'd rather they talk than threaten war.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A highly commendable, just right and excellent move by the US President Donald Trump! A peaceful solution to North Korean crisis is the only way forward in the interest of maintaining stability and peace not only in the region but the entire world! Any accidental trigger can lead to a prairie fire which under the nuclear weapon atmosphere will have unpredictable consequences and Japan is ideally fit to understand it!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Donald Trump is nothing but a NATO (No Action Talk Only). Talking big and boasting about "all options are there... to tackle NK" Now what? Kim dared him by releasing another missile with lots of guts. But Trump lost his 2 balls and now wants to talk diplomatically with the fatty kid. Americans are looking at you and your words don't hold water. Shame on you.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

But he accomplished a lot more in this regard to foreign policy than his predecessor.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

haha. You have to give it to Trump. Using language like this goes a long way with people like Kim. I am not going to say that I like or admire Trump and what he stands for, but I will reserve judgment in matters like these. Some world leaders are maniacs, and there are times when maniacs can be defeated by persistent reason and diligent effort.

I am going to venture to say that the world has not had to confront a maniac with nuclear weapons yet. So maybe we DO need to try something different. Maybe we are beyond the lessons that we learned from the Cold War.

There are other times when you need bigger carrots and/or bigger sticks. Maybe Trump has finally met a problem that he can solve with his skill set. I would like to think that Trump understands Dennis Rodman better than I do, for instance, so maybe he understands something about Kim that we don't.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm not aware of any achievements on foreign policy in his first 100 days. Bombing in Yemen bombing in Syria. Telling NATO countries to pony up. Slag off some world leaders. Refuse to shake hands with Merkel. What am I missing here?

A lot!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

To expect good things from a crazy, incompetent, corrupt con man is the definition of insane.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

They should trade hair stylists.

Trump would be 'honored' to meet N Korea's Kim, if conditions right

but would N Korea's Kim be ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Stranger: "The DPRK may not be trustworthy, but neither have they done anything to indicate that everything they say is anything other than blustering and saber rattling."

Objection. Never forget that in 2010 DPRK suddenly sank the Cheonan, SK's navy corvette with great loss of life (46 sailors), using a bubble-jet torpedo. And they unleashed their artillery onto SK's Yeonpyeong Island in protest at military drills.

This is not just bluster or rattling.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Even if you like Trump at least don't post fake news, you'll lose any respect you might have had.

Don't worry, I would never do that, it's not my style.

So please inform me the foreign policy achievements by Trump, not that I would have expected such in the first 100 days anyway but since you are the one qualifying it what does "a lot" actually mean.

Got a conservative on the SCOTUS, did a 5 year ban on lobbying, enforced the previous president's controversial "Red line" policy, renegotiating with NAFTA, curbed a lot if illegal activity just by mentioning the building of the wall, arresting countless of violent illegal criminals, working on bringing the tax rate down to about 15-20%, sanctioned Iran over their nuclear program, got rid of the crippling regulations, taking on sanctuary cities with a vengeance, brought coal back, so all in all, the president has been doing better than expected, now if he can fix the healthcare plan and do tax reforms, he'll easily do a second term.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

"the sanctioned Iran over their nuclear program" amounts to nothing more than saying the lifting of sanctions will be reviewed

Which should have never happened in the first place. Now you have Israel and the Saudis on edge and this has the potential to develop into something far worse.

So you are stating that Trump in 100 days has accomplished more in regard to foreign policy, more than Obama in 8 years.

Without a doubt, got Assad's attention, got the Chinese attention, the Chinese are taking a more proactive role in trying to quell NK, our enemies are now more on notice that this admin. is not going to tolerate countries like NK, Syria, and Iran think they can bomb, kill or threaten ANY country, race or religion with destruction with impunity, those days are over.

Originally Trump stated he would abolish NAFTA but six days ago did a flip flop on that.

"I decided rather than terminating NAFTA, which would be a pretty big, you know, shock to the system, we will renegotiate," Trump told reporters before a meeting with the Argentinian President.

All presidents say things during the campaign to get votes and all promise to do things, some get implemented and some don't. Sometimes as in this situation, he wants to try and renegotiate NAFTA in a way where both sides can benefit from it.

Nothing to do with foreign policy

But has to do with an accomplishment.

No he didn't. Trump said he would review the sanctions.

Ok, Zichi

"The Trump administration has announced sanctions on companies and individuals suspected of involvement in Iran’s missile program and its support for foreign armed groups, warning there will be more pressure on Tehran to come."

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/03/trump-administration-iran-sanctions

Again nothing to do with foreign policy and in fact Trump so far as done nothing about coal.

Zichi, not so sure about that.......

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-17/u-s-coal-mines-are-opening-in-a-year-of-cautious-optimism

So again, again, nothing to do with foreign policy which you have claimed in your previous comment?

Not only did he have all these accomplishments, but he as I said earlier, but NK, Syria, and Iran on notice with a show of strength and not weakness and that in itself is a huge accomplishment.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It might take another twenty years to wait for that moment! And Mr Trump will be at the age of 90, are you serious of what you are talking about......Mr.Trump?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The pleasure would be all Trumps......

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As in the vote for president, most Americans would be happy if the mobile fact-free zone were not their president.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

He may be inarticulate but I prefer his policies to the effeminate Obama. Let's settle North Korea once and for all.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

he wants to try and renegotiate

No, he said he wants to kill it. He just talks. Just like he just talks about the wall that Mexico will pay for which is a complete failure. No declaration of China currency manipulation, no Clinton arrest, no Muslim registry, He's keeping the Iran deal which shows that Obama was a great president.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Who's to win here ?

Trump may actually be the one to spell it out, as it is and should be in undiplomatic terms, being a similar new kid upon the block...

"Look, we're both new here, I'm learning the hard way internally within my own Country, and you are learning the same, though externally - as all your friends have now gone. Furthermore, it's in my own internal interest to smash you to pieces, but I know if I do that, then it wont be good for everyone. So, why dont you name your price, relocate like Richard Bansom to a lovely island, and live out a life of fun and happiness with your Family to be without fear of further prosecution."

That could be a lot cheaper than the alternative.

Of course, the Koreans (United) would have to pay for that.. just as the Mexicans for the Wall... (though Pink Floyd may wish to check to see if there's been a Copyright inflingment there too..)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is just trying to see if they can become friends.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Smart cookie or ruthless dictator, one of these statements is correct, you choose.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump! Just drop a few bombs similar to what you did to Syria. Think the people around the world will respect you for up holding your threat. That fatty kid may be calling you NATO Trump is USA if there's still no action taken by you.
