She should give him a good spanking.

QE2 has a lot of wisdom and can certainly make clear and unmistakable her opinion about such a visit to those that have announced it, and those who will be a part of it. She's one classy lady and has survived a long, long time serving her people. That is the perspective from which she will approach the task, however distasteful.

If she doesn't meet him, it won't be a ban on Americans, it will simply be a ban of a person from a dangerous country. She's simply making her country safer. Everyone can agree with that, right?

Either way, whether the British invite or not, either way it's not going to bother Trump and why should it? For the Brits it's a big thing, I guess, but really, who cares?

That'd be a slap in the face for the Office of the President when Britain is its closest ally and the first head of government to officially be invited for a visit. Imagine if the Queen had declined the Obamas - that'd be an embarrassment for Obama

Among the Parliament Square placards yesterday:

Fanta-faced f@scist

and from pop culture:

May's been Tango'd

Meanwhile on lunchtime news here in Japan:

If they do meet as seems likely, Queen Elizabeth will need a good pair of sunglasses.

Meanwhile Brit comic David Baddiel tweets:

I personally think it'd be funnier to let Donald come but hold him at the airport because he comes from a country that promotes terrorism.

Overrated and unfunny ex-comic, of course.

Perhaps the people who care about the image of the US on the world stage. I'm sure you can sympathise. You used to rant about Obama turning the US into a "laughing stock" on the world stage.

It could be instructive and helpful if you outline how you went from such sensitivity to this new thick skin in such a short time.

“It would have been far wiser to wait and see what sort of president he would turn out to be before advising the queen to invite him,” Ricketts said.

True, who would have thought Trump would turn out to be an abrasive, stubborn, divisive, controversial, pig headed type of president! Come on mr Ricketts, this one is on the British govt alone. They should have known inviting DT at Buckingham palace was always going to be risqué (at best) or even a massive faux pas. If anything Trump is doing exactly as he said he would do!

Better will be Trump's declining the faux invitation. He has more important work to do.

I suggest she wear a cup.

Any idea what the British odds makers are putting up on whether the Donald grabs her minge? I'll take those odds.

May was too hasty in inviting a head of state who had been in office for only a week for a state visit, it usually takes about two years. Now it's come back to bite her on the bum. The Queen is above all this nonsense and will take the idiot Trump and his awful entourage in her stride, although Trump should do the decent thing and decline the invitation. The only good thing I can see from a state visit from him is that the whole visit will be accompanied by an endless cacophony of boos and football chants and a sea of placards and good old fashioned British two fingered salutes.
