Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan refuses to fully acknowledge Hamas atrocities on the 7th of October is the catalyst that brought the middle east again to a devastating war.

Erdogan's words will have no effect on Israel's self-defense measures, because the world was horrified at Hamas and other Arab terrorist factions and their supporters unprovokedly murdering and kidnapping 1400 people.

Erdogan's antisemite rants will be ignored by the free countries of the world like the US and Israel, as they work to eliminating the Arab terrorists and their supporters no matter what the costs.

All in compliance with international laws.

Before the Syrian civil war, the 2 were actually good friends. Erdogan at first tried to get Bashar to exile his younger brother Maher who he said was responsible for many atrocities, and then later helping and arming the resistance against Bashar and going so far as to shoot down a Russian plane which was bombing the resistance.

So yeah. He was even more upset and actively worked to get Bashar out.

As arch-atheist Christopher Hitchens said, if he was parked in his car and saw a group of young men coming out of a church service and coming towards him he would have zero alarm bells going off. If it was a group of young muslims exiting Friday prayers and coming his way he would drive away immediately.

I wouldn't call it intolerance. Look at how long it took for women in the west to gain the rights they have now, and they still in most countries do not have equality with men. It is a struggle dating back to the 1800s. Much has been achieved but much could also be lost. There is a great fear, and I think a legitimate fear, that religious fundamentalism writ large, meaning not just Muslim but also Christian fundamentalism could turn the clock back and reverse two hundred years of women struggling for something resembling equality with men. One sees women covered head to toe escorted by a man or sitting in the back seat of a car while the man drives, and if you value the equality of women with men, you can't help but feel threatened by it. And obtw, Christian fundamentalism causes me every bit as much fear. If you read conservative Christian theology, both Catholic and Pentacostle, you will read that the whole idea that government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed, something that is a founding principle of the US, is considered to be rebellion against god. The fundamentalist believe only god can choose your leaders, and boy oh boy do elected legislators love to hear things like that. They start thinking they are gods chosen. Religion has no place in government and no religion should ever have the power to restrict the rights of women by forcing them to dress a certain way or to obey men in their lives. It is fundamentally wrong.

And Erdogan is the world's poster boy of hypocrisy.

And to say, 'If liberals claim to be tolerant, they have to be tolerant of Muslims and their traditions,' I can't agree more, except for their propensity to kill those who disagree with their fanatical adherence to their religion, even their family members. Considering the atrocious human rights record in Turkiye under his, cough cough, "leadership" the past two decades it is very hard to take any comments the Sultan of Ankara makes on the matter of human rights. He should instead examine his own policies towards legitimate political opposition (hint, just because you oppose Mr. Erdogan's policies you are not automatically and necessarily a "terrorist"), his imprisonment of members of the press and most importantly he might want to reverse the decades long deliberate genocide of the Kurdish people.
