Prohibiting violence against women goes against everything muslim fundamentalist dictators like the Sultan of Ankara stand for. Turkey should be suspended from NATO and named a state sponsor of terrorism for their use of Islamic jihadists recruited in Syria as a mercenary force fighting in Azerbaijan and Libya, and for Turkish collusion with Belarus flying refugees from Iraq and Afghanistan on Turkish airliners.

The police put up barricades to limit where the protestors could continue. It was only after those protestors tried to go around/over the barricades that the police used tear gas.

I've been tear gassed in Istanbul by police. We were downhill about 500m away from some protestors eating lunch on a nice spring day. Tear gas stays near the surface by design. The restaurant quickly moved us indoors and upstairs to get above the gas.

They are trying to hide their features from facial recognition software to prevent 2am police visits at their homes. The Turkish govt isn't exactly tolerant. BTW, the govt runs the telecom and internet there as well, so be certain you leave your phone away from any protests.

Mr. Erdogan is playing to his Islamist base, as he has an election coming up and he is polling badly. "Tough guy against women!" may solidify the votes in his party, despite the plunging lira and sky-high interest rates.

Erdogan is an islamist, so Turkey is on a steady marcth towards Shariah law now. The demonstrating women will not change that, in fact they got a taste of what is coming.
