It's absolutely ridiculous. Reporters do not have to stand in a hurricane to repprt on it. On CNN earlier I saw a reporter in Florida criticise others she saw out in the storm.

Let's not also forget that there was a horrendous amount of damage incurred upon the Carribean islands which felt the full Category 5 force of the Hurricane. There's another hurricane coming, which could further add to their misery, I really hope that further loss of life does not happen there.

Reporters have a long-standing relationship with natural disasters, probably love climate change too! Still reckon the ones wearing helmet, full fire-fighter's uniform and so on AFTER the fire has been extinguished are the worst i.e "let me tell ya, it was pretty dangerous out there! oh boy it sure was'

Most of these reporters are drama queens, seeking a "look at me" moment, so they encourage others to leave so they can have the spotlight to themselves. The danger of this storm was also way overstated as it had petered out by the time it hit Florida. All the warnings issued are just due to all the lawsuits that would follow had warnings not been given. Also TV news crews save lots of money by dropping work on other stories and repeating the same storm coverage ad nauseum!

At least they're not wearing helmets in mild weather like they do here in Japan.

A couple of months ago here in Japan a reporter was wearing a helmet with nothing but a little drizzle, prior to a typhoon approaching, and there were elementary school kids and an old couple walking past behind him.

The dudes on CNN seem to be going the other way and putting themselves in unnecessary danger. They do look a bit stupid.

For about 5 days, 24 hours a day, there has been NOTHING on CNN except reporting on this storm. Yes, it's very windy, very wet, very dangerous to be out in. Do we need endless saturation coverage? No. It's tedious, stupid, irritating, ... (need I go on?). There are other things happening in the world. Do your job and focus on the world! We know a storm is coming. Tell us the results AFTER it's done it's thing. I know CNN are not alone in this. Of course it's a dumb standard of "journalism", period. But if you call yourself a carrier of "world" news, get on with it!

ratings. its reality tv. sorry but the myth if the intrepid reporter was killed long ago.

They are usually standing in safe places pretending that it's intense.

Simply put, if they were "out in the open" they would be blown away. They wouldn't be doing symbolic poses like taking a knee. They really are bad actors too.

CNN vs BBC - which is better for actual News ?

Id go with the BBC - but barely. CNN is a joke. No credibility left at all.

Kyung Lah disappeared on the way. What happened? Well, in Japan, every year the same story for Typhoon that can be a Hurricane in Pacific Ocean side (or Cyclone in Indian Ocean side) and here much more prepared to any Typhoon coming. Most of the problems are the abundant floods, big earthquakes and strong tornadoes at every corner of the the world, not strong wind gusts and showers, that's normal for storms. I want to see CNN waiting earthquakes, nobody knows when it will happen, haha!

Id go with the BBC - but barely. CNN is a joke. No credibility left at all. yep Americans at least have that totally unbiased, credible network in FOX

Ratings, rating, ratings. Which sounds like a slam on them, but it's actually just giving us what we want.

They are usually standing in safe places pretending that it's intense.

That's not true, the majority of reporters are as close to the danger as they can possible get, however, they do have a close lifeline to get out of the way, they don't want to be there, but that's part of the job as a reporter, you have to make your dues, especially if you want to move up and sit on a news desk in the future. Imagine being in a storm like that and be available to be on air every 10-20 minutes covering 8-12 hours. I know it all too well, it's not always fun or glamorous, but they have to show the people that this is serious and to show people they equally need to take these storms seriously. Because there are a few idiots out there that won't.

Simply put, if they were "out in the open" they would be blown away.

Depending where they stand, they will go as far as they can. Rule number one: Don't become part of the news(if possible)

They wouldn't be doing symbolic poses like taking a knee. They really are bad actors too.

That's not necessarily true.

Ratings in the news business are everything, but safety is the number one priority.

problem is also they cheapen the value of 'reporters' lives. when one gets killed doing stupid grandstanding like this it begins to seep into the public mind that reporters die because of stupidity and we stop caring.
