Here's the deal: Because of that little problem Germany had with the Nazis, Germany has a bunch of laws which, basically, make it illegal to be a Nazi. You may have heard of that little problem, it's called THE FRENCH REVOLUTION.
Anyways,
it is not ironic, and yes, it only applies within German national borders.

You can't claim to support freedom of speech until you are ready to defend the right of the most disgusting people to express their most obnoxious ideas.
As far as Nazis are concerned, I much prefer to have them out in the open where we can keep an eye on them and laugh at their pathetic ideas.
