Two women die in Swedish school attack; student arrested:
Lately, there has been a spurt of mass killings and shootings in some western countries that are becoming more and more unacceptable.
Any idea what are the causes..?

Venze, you should become an investigator! You are asking all of the right questions.

Crazy people find a way.
Perhaps I've missed the shootings and only zoned into the uses of knives recently.
Where are the calls to outlaw those items?

Sweden usually doesn't have violent incidents like this, but it does occur. There are neo-Nazi trash groups in Sweden (the 'Odin' variety) and once in a while some of them scum burn down a classic 1000-year-old church in Sweden. Since there are 'death metal' bands in Sweden, that gives that genre a bad name there.
In 1986 their PM Olaf Palme was assassinated. By coincidence Halley's Comet was making an appearance that year. Nonetheless, Sweden has its share of hate, crime, problems.

Don't forget the explosions;

Although gangs are mostly blamed for those attacks. Not the materials, for some reason.
"The attacks are usually carried out by criminal gangs to scare rival groups or their close friends or family, she says."

Huh? Most nations control the sale of explosive materials. You can't just walk into an industrial supply warehouse and buy TNT. One has to have a license, meaning you have a legitimate commercial use for the particular explosive sought, to buy that sort of thing. Even the sale of ammonium nitrate is regulated in many nations so at the very least if it is employed in an explosion the buyer can be identified.

Good. But do they control the sale of over the counter goods used in the making of them? like a thermos flask? should they control the sale of those, or should they target the people misusing them ?
"We haven't got the full picture but most of the material for homemade bombs are things you can buy over the counter, it **isn't difficult to obtain. **When it comes to the actual explosives our impression is that it's usually commercial grade explosives that are used in construction and road work that gets stolen or misappropriated."

they should probably ban construction and road work too, while they're at it, right?
