Good on them. They can find their own peace. Screw the US, Trump only made things worse, not better.

A promise from Kim to denuclearize has as much value as a "pledge" by Shinzo Abe or a "believe me" by Donald Trump.

Negotiations based on NK's nukes are doomed to fail, but I think Moon can help normalize the relation between the two countries quite a lot. If he can assure the security of his people, that would be a great first step.

And YES, keep deTrump out of it.

...and Abe.

North and South Koreans are brothers, and they should be united like the East and West Germans. If the United State should leave Korea, the real problem for us is that Koreans are very anti-Japanese, and they will work together to help China to counter Japan which is our ally. This is a big geopolitical game being played out by the US, China, Japan, North & South Korea. China wants a united Korea to oppose Japan. We want a divided Korea and status quo so the Japanese can help us to deter China without worrying too much about the Koreans. In realty, the Japanese has no friends in Asia due to its atrocity during WWII. People don't forget history that fast.

There is no political game other than by the many pro China sympathizers who want the US presence out of Asia for good. They can blame Trump all they want, but the only ones being fooled are the Moon supporters, but people forget that Moon is half Chinese with long roots and ties to the Han. It is NKorea who will not bend to the Chinese or the US.

Good. Dialogue is better than conflict

The Avenger - interesting post, but who is the 'we' in your post? Genuine question.

Let's hope some progress is made. If not for us, then for the average citizen in the DPRK.

Why is kim jong un always smiling and laughing in photographs? Seems like he has a problem with reality or is it only me? His country is in deep you know what while he enjoys the good life of a dictator and cares nothing for his people.

Hawkeye - I think you answered your first question with your final sentence!

Why is kim jong un always smiling and laughing in photographs?

Propaganda designed to show all how well things are going. Every single NK photograph with other NK officials bear to hallmarks: big smiles and little notebooks as they manually record all of the useless remarks Kim emits.

Still, good for the summit. Peace can only come from between the two sides of the peninsula. The US must listen, observe, and, if requested, advise - but otherwise stay out of the way.

so we don't need to buy weapons and change the constitution?

The two men are smiling because:

Trump's invitation got lost in the mail.

Trump received his invitation but couldn't read it.

China has started trading with NK behind Trump's back.

Kim wrote the NY Times op ed about Trump's WH.

They both know they will be in office long after Trump.

They sold Trump land and made a killing.

Just like the people in the West Wing, the leaders of North and South Korea know that Trump is a fool and a buffoon. They'll work totally around this idiot and save their peninsula without him.

Really. Both China and Korea have done pretty well forgetting their own history - the inconvenient bits anyway.

So far as friends....nations don't have friends, they have allies. China and Korea don't have a whole lot of friends either. I would say Japan is ahead in that regard as well.

This is the best deal the 2 Koreas to table-talk, to organize the next steps/stages to adjoin big-powers and not to be interrupted their ties on process. Japan much better to cheer-up their action, or some actions against will come from them. Peace Treaty should be first held between them, without intervention of others.

"And YES, keep deTrump out of it."

Haha, lol, if it weren't for "deTrump" these summits wouldn't be happening.

North Korea doesn’t call the shots on anything, if the US feels that Kim is not living up to his commitments to denuclearize, thst like honeymoon with SK will come to a quick abrupt end.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

North Korea doesn't call the shots; China does. A little research helps to not make oneself look stupid.
