The IPCC's experts have been taken to task for scaremongering, in the recent past, and you have to wonder about the big 'IF' in this story/report - 'IF' the world's temperature goes up 2.5C, they're forecasting a 0.2-2% reduction in production, by the end of this century - that's 86 more years. Who can forecast 86 days, let along 86 years? Too many 'IFs'.

Global warming due to human activities is recognized by the majority of renown scientists. Why trying to refuse to admit this evidence? Why saying this is BS? If even only 80% proven true, is it not enough to change our life habit to ensure a livable planet for our children? Some human beings are very arrogant and selfish. Shame!

The whole point of the global warming regulation would be to impose a cost wedge on the traditional carbon based energy sources that have powered the industrial revolution, such as coal, oil and natural gas. Alternative energy from wind, solar, even biofuels is inherently more costly because the energy in wind, sunrays, corn, etc. is much more diffuse, so more expensive to collect in usable form. Moreover, these alternative energy sources are inherently unreliable, because sometimes the wind does not blow, and the sun does not shine. So back up traditional fossil fuel sources are still needed, which further adds to the costs. This will all result in higher costs for electricity, the fundamental power source for the modern, consumer based economy.

A few people created a really big business for themselves but convinving us all that we can destroy the world and that if we try hard enough we can save it. Kiss my seat warmer IPCC.

... I believe .... I don't believe ...

Just a heads up - belief has nothing to do with it.

Is it only me? Why is the future is always painted with grim reports? Isn't the advancement of the human species to hope for a better future? Why does food cost more then the past with record harvest?

I admit it is convenient to put the head in the sand. Typical attitude of people who are not brave enough to face a problem.

So short temperature change cycles have never been observed on planet earth. This is not a cycle, this is a change.

The denier masses should be forced to move to the nice tropical islands that will flood and those people should move to the denier's country. Solve two problems at once

Most of the folks who deny climate change

There are very few people who deny climate change. But I guess people have to say it that way to make themselves feel superior and to avoid the real debate.

The issue is whether humans are having a significant effect on climate or if most of the change is just natural variability. You know the same natural variability that has caused the Earth's climate to change constantly over the last 4.5 billion years (just a bit more than 5,000 years don't you think?).

In fact we should just take a holiday in some parts of Africa.

No actually we should look at the real actual data and not computer models. And sorry but that real data doesn't show the gloom and doom that some people seem to want.

Even the IPCC has had to admit that global average temperature hasn't increased for almost 17 years, while none of the computer models they use can explain why with CO2 continuing to increase the temperature hasn't increased. The latest IPCC report also has admitted that the previous IPCC reports and the compter climate models that those reports used were based on climate sensitivities that were way to high. They also admit that even the current models don't properly model clouds, one of the major parts of the climate system.

The flat earth types who deny science are all in the pockets of the coal industry. It is sad to see them deluded by a really bad PR campaign. But deluded once, easily deluded again. Most of the folks who deny climate change think the earth was created 5000 years ago. RIght.

Monsanto will save us. Of corse there will be enough food for everyone in the right place at the right time just as it is today. And those silly scientist weather men are wasting money sending (spy) rockets into space. Water will keep flowing as long as we turne the tap and and Yoshimora can grow cows and rice on the roof. Everything is just fine and dandy. In fact we should just take a holiday in some parts of Africa.

The true cost of climate change is unmeasurable. Climate change, global warming and rising sea levels are fact and it is happening as I type this. Trying to calculate the cost of this phenomenon is like trying to calculate how many grains if sand there are a beach. Come to think of it, it's probably easier to calculate sand on a beach. This article only talks about crop loss. It doesn't deal with displaced people and soaring unemployment. Nor does it calculate the cost of whole cities becoming unlivable due to the plumbing and drainage no longer functioning. It really P's me off to see countries prettily squabbling over the Olympics and specs of rock in the middle of the ocean when in the next century or so 50% of the worlds' most heavily populated areas are gonna become unlivable. Who is gonna house and feed the 150 million people that become homeless when Bangladesh becomes a salty swamp. How about Urayasua nd Funabashi in Tokyo and the whole port district of Osaka? These narrow minded mullets have no idea what is really gonna happen to the world's economy in the next two or three centuries.

No it isn't. Global warming due to humans is recognized by the majority of scientists that make a living off of claiming that global warming is caused by humans. The actual data proves no such thing. Again, CO2 has continued to increase over the last 17 years, yet temperatures have not. Thus CO2 doesn't control temperature. No matter what computer models say, the actual real world data says different. And believing computer models over actual real world data is foolish.

when Bangladesh becomes a salty swamp.

Bangladesh is becoming a swamp due to land subsidence not due to sealevel rise. The river delta that makes up most of Bangladesh has been subsiding for centuries, as most river deltas tend to do. And when the depositing of silt from the river is slower than the subsidence then the delta sinks below the sealevel.

@realist

Its good to see more and more people waking up to the fact that for years the biased mass media have been spinning the lying propaganda about "global warming." The theories have been exposed as being mostly conjecture, based in flawed science, and in some cases there has been deliberate deception and fraud. The Climategate Scandal in Britain a few years ago is an example of this. Scientists need money for their research, and will stop at nothing to get it, in some cases.

My best friend is a meteorologist in Vegas for CBS and he never believed in the hype, he always said, it comes and goes in cycles and has been doing this billions of years him and I would have conversations over the years and he would get so annoyed that these looney Environmentalist groups and the mass media, throw Gore in there as well, would make billions off of this. I figured out rather quickly that this was all nothing but liberal rhetoric to push government driven green energy, which Obama is still pushing for. But other proven, effective and important vital energy sources we have right now, coal, natural gas, nuclear, the Keystone pipeline, etc. not only could these jobs employ thousands of people, it could finally ween us off countries that are hostile to the US or don't want to do business, but this president doesn't get it.

Global Warming really , seriously ? I thought those proponents of this had changed the name and were calling it Climate Change , the planet's climate is changing.

I dont believe the earth was created 5000 years ago, and i also believe that just about anything we do to the earth can be corrected by the earth after we go extinct very quickly. Climate change is a business and all the enlightened ones who promote it are no different than the millions of people who where masks to protect themselves from the cold or flu. They are spending money in a useless pursuit after being convinced by people who take their money.

Patrick Moore ironically said this today in his own words.

Everyone virtually knows that Global Warming is a billion dollar industry. You liberals because of this nutty belief of this junk have been in part a huge impediment when it comes to the energy sector and blocking things like the Keystone pipeline, but you guys think our way to energy independence is by mixing some green spinach glob that will make the country a better place. Never going to happen.

Al Gore made billions out of the scam, as did others. The environmentalist movement has become increasingly Marxist in its ideology. Dissenting or questioning voices have been threatened or sacked from university positions if they dare to question the quasi religious dogma surrounding "global warming" and the alarmist predictions accompanying it. It has become a religion, the Church of Climatology. Unbelievers are threatened with jihad for their unbelief, and called all sorts of names. We all know that name-calling is the last resort of those who have lost the argument.

We are all being told that we must "change our lifestyles" in order to "save the planet." That is Marxist speak for anti human, anti capitalist and anti industrialist policies. CO2, the very lifeblood of the planet, has been demonised as a "pollutant" when the exact opposite is the fact. Without CO2, neither we nor the planet could survive, yet the Marxist environmentalists tell us we must "decarbonise" in order to "save the planet." It is nonsense, and worse, it is criminal. The planet has survived millions of years of climate changes and fluctuating temperatures, thank you very much. The last 150 years of industrialisation is but a moment when compared with the long history of climate changes and CO2 fluctuations on the earth.

The "global warming" terminology has been changed to "climate change recently, because of the past 17 years of global cooling. Even members of the IPCC are becoming skeptical. Science itself is all about asking questions, and being skeptical. To suggest that " the debate is over" and "the science is settled" as Obama and others like Prince Charles have done recently shows that these people are ignorant of the facts and are willing to sacrifice their countries and their people for unscientific lies, emanating from one of the greatest frauds and scams the world has ever known. Enough is enough. Time to ditch useless wind turbines and revert to good old fossil fuels. Time to put "global warming" theory in the dustbin of history.

Garbage

Well since their predictions over the last 20 years have all proven to be wrong. And since world crop production per acre has risen almost every year since 1900 even as global average temperature has risen. I really don't think there is a major worry. Oh sure there are mitigation actions that should be looked at and continued research into crop varieties that need less water and can stand higher temperatures, but it isn't an immediate crisis.

There has been no "global warming" since 1996, and counting. The amount of CO2 produced asa. Result of human activity is minute, compared to what nature produces. The climate changes, as it has done for tens of thousands of years. The IPCC is a political lobby group, not a scientific organisation. This report, like all the others before it, is climate alarmism without any basis in real scientific fact. There is no evidence to support their wild claims. The climate models used by fraudulent "scientists" is based in failed and flawed co puter modelling. Ey told us we would not have snow on the planet by 2013, and the US has just had the coldest winter in years. They told us the ice caps were melting, but there has been a 69-65% increase in ice on the caps. They are frauds, as is the "theory" of "global warming." Nothing new under the sun, and nothing new in nature, either. The earth has seen it all before, and survived. It is because of stupid Green Marxist agendas and policies that there are food shortages, nothing to do with climate. This report is bunkum, and should be ignored. The world has eoken up to the scam and the fraud, propagated recently by Al Gore, Obama and Prince Charles, known for talking to his plants and wanting to do wierd things with tampons.
