Martyman,

"This is an interesting subject that Americans would want President Obama to focus on international adoptions ..."

The petition calling for Obama to address this issue has 40,000 signatures. Significant, yes, but there are over 300 million Americans. I don't think this .016 % of the population represents the overwhelming majority.

This is an interesting subject that Americans would want President Obama to focus on international adoptions more than the "Fiscal Cliff" issues facing America. With the budget issues that will force families across the US to lose their homes, jobs in the next year, I am not sure how the petitioners will be able to afford adopting Russian children. It would seem more appropriate to fix internal problems before diving into external ones.

Cos,

" Well probably non-American families can give them better conditions."

Why so?

Good point.

It's all well and fine that Americans are upset about this, but why don't we see the same outrage and demand for action concerning the some 130,000 orphans currently awaiting adoption in the U.S. foster care system?

Shouldn't we be getting our house in order first?

Pretty sad to use children as weapons.

That changes nothing for the children. They are still on the mail order adoption market, for them, that adopters are Canadian or Australian is the same. Well probably non-American families can give them better conditions.

Two petitions on the White House website

They really need to stop using this source as a spokesperson for issues.

Just a continuation of recent Russian paranoia and petty vindictiveness.

Well, it is Putin. He looks like he's developing Meth-Mouth in that image.
