Politics wins again.

Great job! Keep the contracts at home. Next, start building new nuke power plants.

heh well I'm not sure Boeing or EADS can really point the finger at the other over delays and cost overruns.

On a side note, I thought the EU gave subsidies to EADS/Airbus on the basis that they can't go after military contracts in the US?

Hope they can pay it.

The EADS bid was actually an EADS/Northrop Grumman consortum.

quelle surprise

Too bad for EADS.

I'll wait for the WikiLeak document on this.

I am really sure both sides were shady in trying to get the contract as were the goverment reps for their respective states. Lots of bribes and lobbyists around for that stuff. If in the end the cost from Boeing is cheaper, I think that might just be the right call, in almost every catagory you can point a finger and have an opinion, but cost is solid.

Now... let's see how much they go over budget due to an under-bid.

Whichever side achieves victory, this is for a majority based on lobbying more than the actual worth of the offers.

I really don't see how they could've awarded the contract to anyone other than Boeing. They would've taken a big hit politically.

What? No complaints about $35 billion of hard-earned private sector tax dollars being spent. I thought the debt and deficit was "killing America".

Don't worry though, it isn't your money anyways. Your money was spent long ago. It is your debt though. Somebody at the Fed just pushed a key on his computer and there it was. A debt that can never be paid pack, at least not in cash.

This is our US tax dollars $$$ at work! And just think! $ 35,000,000,000,000 USD is just chump change for the US military!

“What we can tell you was that Boeing was a clear winner,” said Deputy Defense Secretary William Lynn.

Excuse me?? It appears the American 'main street' citizen got screwed here. $35 billion could do a LOT in these depressed times. But, I forgot, the military budget is off limits. Why can't they pump this kind of money into alternative energy projects/contracts and encouraging the masses to grow hemp for industrial & medicinal use.

And that money is coming from the Chinese who seem happy buying our debt for some reason! So, we're borrowing money from the Chinese to fund the Defence department who is increasingly antagonistic to the rising power that is China. This is warped logic and is UNSUSTAINABLE in the long run.

they should have used a non-union plane maker... would've been at least half that amount.

Obama helps Chicagoland... who is surprised.

WilliB supports a blatantly biased, anti-democratic Government handout to the military-industrial complex.

No surprises there.

Production will occur in Everett, Washington, Wichita, Kansas, and dozens of other states where hundreds of jobs will be created. Boeing has said that the contract will mean some 50,000 jobs.

Glad to hear that these people will at least have jobs for a few more years. I guess since Boeing is headquartered in Chicago, and the former White House Chief of Staff jsut got elected as mayor sure helped things out a bit.

Too bad Rahm didn't run earlier. He might have been able to get the IOC to consider Chicago instead of Rio for the Olympics.
