This is going to push a lot of people who hated Bush and supported Obama because he seemed to be Bush's antithesis to dislike Obama....

Wondrous news. One step closer to a drone/dysfunctional society.
RomeoRamenII
Obama signed an extension of the Patriot Act once and now has directed the use of his auto pen to extend the Patriot Act again. Heh, sorry, libs, seems he must also think it's pretty vital to our security.

How could President Obama sign a 4-year extension of this "unconstitutional" act?
"One step closer to a drone/dysfunctional society."
Or, a continuation of the policies that ensure the freedom to say stuff like "One step closer to a drone/dysfunctional society."

Good way to take away the privacy law act altogether..

Fear and complacency are the governments greatest weapons to remove the rights of the people.
Taka313
Jeebus Obama, what the hell are you thinking?
Taka

Nope, those freedoms already existed - long before the treasonous Patriot Act.
It is now though that the government feels it necessary that we owe something to it for these rights. Dont be fooled into believing that this has anything to do with security. It is all about control and manipulation by the political prostitutes of the United States and Israel.

so much for freedom in the land of the fee
Taka313
It's all about capitulating to the Muslims don'tcha know. They hate us for our freedoms so we started to curtail them. Just to be nice. It's what we do.

"Jeebus Obama, what the hell are you thinking?"
Obama: "It's an important tool for us to continue dealing with an ongoing terrorist threat."
There ya go.

The land of the free? Hahaha
Taking away your liberties whilst all the time keeping you fearful. Yep, works every time and is a strategy employed by every repressive state.

Watching liberals spasm in Apocalyptic Shock as they realize their annointed one has failed you is amusing as all hell to me!
Heh, watch out for those roving wire-taps, liberals.

Another blow to liberty. OBL probably never understood how successful he was. Now Americans look for the boogy man under the bed and allow liberty to be tossed over for government provided "security." Maybe Osama read 1984 and understood how he could, eventually, ruin the West by sowing fear.

If you have done nothing wrong and you do not plan on doing anything wrong then you do not have anything to worry about so people should quit their complaining.

The Patriot Act is unconstitutional, undemocratic, violates civil liberties, judicial process, human rights and is a law based on control and fear. It's a totally unconstitutional provision that should have been scrapped because it allows Intelligence agencies to demand information from Internet service providers without judicial oversight or public review. This type of administrative subpena called the national security letter does not require court approval and prohibits targeted companies from revealing that the demands were ever made. This dangerous letter bars or substantially alters any judicial challenge and violates free-speech rights by imposing permanent silence on targeted companies. An unlimited government warrant to conceal has no place in our society. Unfortunately, what made it even worst was a separate provision of the Patriot Act that enhanced the government's ability to use such letters against financial and credit institutions. This indicates that the United States government does have tendency to abuse its power in the name of domestic policy therefore your liberties won't be coming back anytime soon.

What if you've done nothing wrong? I found out when I got my top secret clearance that there was an FBI file on me because, as a high school student, I attended a mock UN meeting where I was aggaigned Algeria to represent. Since I called the Algerian Embassy and wrote them letters, the FBI had a file on me.
Is that right? Did I do anything wrong or illegal? And they did that back in the 80s, imagine what's done now.
Just sayin'.

The latest supreme court rulings allow police to search with warrant if they thing evidence will be destroyed. It does a number to the American 4th and 14th amendments. Which of your freedoms will go next? All in the name of public safety. It was Benjamen Franklin that said those who will give up liberty for safety deserve neither freedom or safety. I think it has to do with a people deserving the government they get.
lesgrande
The jig's up, folks. This ain't no government. This here be a police state governed by the elite who will use every opportunity to further its gains by tightening its control over normal, hard-working citizens. And you thought it was a democracy diligently working to further the lives of ordinary folk like they taught you in school, a school whose system was set up by Rockefeller and JP Morgan. FOOLED AGAIN.

taka313: "Jeebus Obama, what the hell are you thinking?"
How easy it was to fool his fan base. And fan is the right word.
YuriOtani
I meant to write without warrant. This is a basic protection of the US Constitution. The vote was 8 to 1 so it crosses all party lines. What makes me giggle is more Americans are worried about the American rules football strike.
Serrano
"more Americans are worried about the American rules football strike"
I'll get worried about the Patriot Act taking away our freedoms when Jay Leno is not longer allowed to say stuff like "President Obama arrived in France for the G-8 summit, a meeting of the top economies in the world. To give you an idea of how bad our economy is, the other countries were like, what are you doing here?"
Taka313
Have to admit it but you're right. I wasn't an Obama guy. Edwards was my guy (and that's not looking so hot right now either) But Obama has pulled a fast one on his base and most of them are lapping it up. He'll still get my vote because he'll still be the best of a really crappy field but I won't be happy about it.

Taka, that was a good example about your high school activity that required contacting the Algerian Embassy and the overreaching response.
Regarding all the other comments, no word of condemnation for Kentucky Rep. Rand Paul for trying to weaken the beloved the Patriot Act? Yes, Sarge/Serrano and Lover of Ramen, let's hear some gushing praise for the anti-public security stance of a Tea Party leader. Rand Paul must be working overtime trying to fill his dad's boots.

I should go over to North Korea and tell them the same thing! That is just what they need to hear.
SuperLib
You should go to the parts of the world that actually do exist as a police state. Take a timer with you. Say that you're an American and you're here to share your stories of the police state. After you're done talking, start the timer. After they're done laughing at you, stop the timer. Report the results back to us.
So why do you think Obama is keeping the law in place?
Lieberman2012
Shameful. Obama played so many people.
