i, for one find this to be hilarious

Begging his caucus to pass something that is DOA in the Senate. Refusing a Senate deal that 2 years ago ( less?) would have been a republican wet dream.

Inmates running the asylum is an overused expression and yet...

BV may very well be just like any broken clock; right twice a day. Don't let it rattle you. After all, you did not actually think Obama was more on the the side of the people than certain business sectors did you? We don't pay the campaign bills and we don't lobby and our influence is near nil.

I don't doubt Obama and his admin would pull something like that. But is it anything compared to the stone-walling the Republican leadership has done? Anything compared to their refusal to remove tax cuts on the only people who have the money to pay the debt? Not even close! BV is grasping at straws. That little straw he finally managed to firm grip on does not mean jack squat. We all know the president is going to be at least a little dishonest. How does that compare with Bush who was a LOT dishonest?

I am more interested to know how Faux news got the information. You think those bankers went to the press? Ha ha ha ha!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

RealClearPolitics had a video the other day featuring WH 'spokes-person' Jay "We Have Shown A Lot of Leg" Carney talking with reporters and directing the following to a reporter from Fox - -

Jay Carney, WH press secretary: "You should go on the air and tell your viewers there is nothing to worry about."

FoxBusiness (/2011/07/25/) then reported

"In a series of phone calls, administration officials have told bankers that the administration will not allow a default to happen even if the debt cap isn't raised by the August 2 date Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner says the government will run out of money to pay all its bills, including obligations to bond holders. Geithner made the rounds on the Sunday talk shows saying a default is imminent if the debt ceiling isn't raised, and President Obama issued a similar warning during a Friday press conference after budget negotiations with House Republicans broke down."

Of course, the reply will be 'It is Fox! Can't be trusted! and the usual attempts at avoiding proof again that the WH is not dealing fairly with the American people, but the assertions above are serious enough to merit libel charges if untrue, and I don't think NewsCorp lawyers would have time for that, these days.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I don't know.

Limbaugh is on daily on Eagle 810(FM Radio), not sure why anyone would want to list to him in the 1st place though. Sky-perfect, etc shows a lot of overseas programming and news channels.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Obama has privately assured banks there will be no default even as he tells the American public just the opposite.

I'm starting to wonder if you aren't my boy, there breitbart. You have a tendency to play really fast and loose with the truth. As in, you often don't tell it, but make it up as you go. Which banks has Pres. Obama assured there will be no default? I tried to look it up on the interenet but got bogged down because the only sites reporting this stuff are crap right-wing looney sites.

Can you offer some legitimate news source reporting on that, please? If not, can you please stop posting incorrect stuff? I know you want to be like your idol but let's try to be adults instead, shall we?

People in Japan don't have access to TV or radio shows from anywhere in the world?

Never looked into it. Have never had a Japanese person ask me what I think of Limbaugh, or Beck. They seem to know Oprah though, if that offers any comfort.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Besides Eric Cantor I wonder what other members of congress stand to make a pot full of money on insider trading is the US defaults.

It would really be interesting to see what Boehner's investments are.

Which does he serve?

It's because the white Conservative right can not stomach of who their leader is.

Why can't your nation produce an Obama?

must be the racism.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

So whose plan do you back, Serrano? In the past it would be pretty easy to ask a Republican where he stood, but these days with so many different types of Republicans it's kind of hard to tell....

taka313:

I think Boehner is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He knows it's on him to pass the budget but the teabaggers simply will not compromise so there is no way to get a deal done without giving the teabaggers 100% of what they want.

I think he is secretly pulling for the freshmen 'Tea Party' members in Congress and calling Obama's bluff.

Meanwhile, gold hits a new high - - it's just turribl, more proof of da racism!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

How did the Republicans even gain control of the House with Obama in the White House?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Interesting update:

Several freshmen have said they’ll vote to raise the ceiling only if the president agrees to repeal his health care legislation, or if Obama signs into law a constitutional amendment to balance the budget, after all 50 states have ratified it.

That's a bit like the crew of the Titanic saying, "Sure, we'll avoid that iceberg, just as soon as you repaint the boat pink!"

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I think Boehner is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He knows it's on him to pass the budget but the teabaggers simply will not compromise so there is no way to get a deal done without giving the teabaggers 100% of what they want.

The problem with that is even Boehner sees that is bad for the country and political suicide for the GOP. I think he wants to negotiate with Pres. Obama but the "knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Neanderthals" won't let him.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Fair enough, Breitbart. Care to cite any poll numbers - any - that show Boehner above Obama? - and remember to name your sources.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The whole thing on the part of those who support this idiocy stinks of manufactured outrage, coming from the same people who never said a word about Bush's massive bailouts and debt-ceiling rises, but suddenly discovered some indignation when Obama did it. It's because the white Conservative right can not stomach of who their leader is.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

BreitbartVictorious: He is Speaker of the House. It is his job to listen to what Repubs in Congress tell him the country wants from them.

Sounds pretty straight-forward. So when will the vote take place?

Perhaps you should sometimes venture away from Fox, Beck, Limbaugh and Co. I have Googled much of what you cite and their names spring up like mushrooms from a moldy tatami.

The last resort - hands in the other guys face, call him a Fox viewer.

I am in Japan. I do not watch TV, other than sports. Limbaugh does not broadcast here. Don't see Beck .

inflicted huge losses on the Democrats.

Large, not huge, from a historical perspective of a party controlling both houses of Congress and the presidency during a recession. The Republicans gained control of the House and but failed to do so in the Senate.

Boehner found himself leader of a new majority in Congress.

More accurately, he found himself leader of one half one one of the three branches of government.

most Americans view Boehner far more positively on this issue than they do your hero Obama.

I'd love to see where you scratched that up from. The President's popularity far exceeds Congress's, and even for the latter, the Democrats retain an edge in all of the polls that I've read. Perhaps you should sometimes venture away from Fox, Beck, Limbaugh and Co. I have Googled much of what you cite and their names spring up like mushrooms from a moldy tatami.

.It is his job to listen to what Repubs in Congress tell him the country wants from them.

That's precisely the problem. He cannot control his caucus if he loses more than 30 members, and these members are sending his party on a kamikaze mission. Don't fool yourself into thinking it's what "the country" wants from them; it is what their constituents want - other constituents want entirely different things; most just want to raise the ceiling and deal with the rest without the certainty of financial Armageddon as the alternative.

So, no, I'm afraid each point you made in your post is blatantly factually incorrect.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Well if it comes to the worst then IMF will go in and drive a rehabilitation plan down congress's throat in which neither the Republicans or the Democrats would agree but have no way to stop it like what had happen in the 97 Asian currency crisis.

"Support for President Obama is fading among two groups considered essential to his re-election: liberal Democrats and blacks, a new poll discloses."

"The percentage of liberal Democrats who strongly support Obama’s record on jobs dropped 22 points from last year, from 55 percent to 31 percent, according to the Washington Post-ABC News survey."

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

The senate is willing to compromise, but the house seems to be hell bent on destroying the nation. I can't believe this is happening. Please, please, please come to your senses before it's too late.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@Breit: That you infer that from the post shows you know nothing about analytical thought, process and conclusion or just want to stick anyone who exposes the GOp as what it is a Democrat. FAIL.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

You can't expect all three R's from the American right. Basic calculus and THEY reckon THEY know the way forward? LOL!

That you think it is only 'the Right' who are fed up with Obama shows you know zero about US politics.

Are there still people out there who thing the deficit/debt can be tackled with just spending cuts alone?

Absolutely...The Government has ENOUGH money and needs to cut back...start with 10 percent across the board reduction in pay for all government workers and then a 10 percent cut in ALL programs across the board. I'm NOT paying more taxes!

smithinjapan:

And your

(you're)

right about Boehner simply pandering to his constituents and to the aforementioned TP

He is Speaker of the House. It is his job to listen to what Repubs in Congress tell him the country wants from them. You see, smith, we had an election back in 2010 which inflicted huge losses on the Democrats. So big, in fact, that Boehner found himself leader of a new majority in Congress. As revolting as the American form of democracy might be to you that is how it works. "Sadly" - for you, smith - most Americans view Boehner far more positively on this issue than they do your hero Obama. You can search for yourself on that one.Don't take my word.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

chuckbello: "What happens to the golf diplomacy."

Clearly nothing, so long as at least the Tea Party is involved. And your right about Boehner simply pandering to his constituents and to the aforementioned TP. It's sad that the man is so downright stubborn with Obama but can't deal with the clowns in his own party. As it is, even if the issue is saved at the last minute and the bill passed, the credit rating is already going to suffer over the indecision. The US is now the leading example of why democracy is simply not working (with Japan a close second).

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Are there still people out there who thing the deficit/debt can be tackled with just spending cuts alone?

Despite the fact that every successful IMF rescue in history has required between a 67:33 and 83:17 split in spending cuts and tax increases, and that the US has the largest primary deficit in the world, yes...it appears there are some.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Are there still people out there who thing the deficit/debt can be tackled with just spending cuts alone?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Paulinusa. I agree with you that "it 's about getting the best deal for your constituency". But here we are dealing with a crisis. A deal has to be made otherwise the US will default. And nobody knows the consequences. Remember Leham Brothers. Paulson and Bush never predict that Leham going brankcrupt will produce a financial disaster. Boehner only cares about appeasing his contributors and others of his ilk, and the tea party who are pressuring him to stonewall the process. As for Obama he hasn't put into writing what the details of his proposal. I am very disappointed with both men. What happens to the golf diplomacy.

I searched "tea party" and was instructed, "see: Idiots." So I searched "idiots" and was instructed, "see: Tea Party."

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Obama, with majorities in House and Senate, extended the so-called Bush tax cuts.

Revisionist thinking. They didn't have the necessary 60 votes to pass the senate, and the Republicans refused to pass the extensions to unemployment benefits unless the tax cuts were extended along with it.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

No need for anyone to have to go any farther than YouTube -- search terms: "tea party" and "idiots." (The one titled "there's nothing better than a dead liberal" is particularly timely.)

And I did as you suggested.. It was better than watching a live comedy show. I laughed so hard with tears. You made my day, yabit.

Serrano: "Under the category "ill considered words," these remarks seem either very poorly considered, or designed to deliberately rachet up the tensions."

I guess he probably thought the Republicans were rational human beings who would do what's best for their nation in the end instead of screaming "no no no!" like a kid in his/her terrible twos. Alas, he grossly overestimated them.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I don't think Obama bargained for all this aggravation when he was running for president.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The deficit isn't the problem but if the US defaults, interest rates in the US should go up by 3% since bonds will go from AAA to AA. Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia wants to remove the US Dollar as the reserve currency, this will make their case much stronger and could make it happen sooner. So oil will no longer be price in dollars. Makes oil more expense in the US. Most likely, stock markets around the world will tank. The dollar will fall in the short term. It will make the problems in Europe worse. Unemployment in the US will jump to 25-33% from 9%. And the world will be plunged into a great depression. Of course, some or all of this may happen anyway. After all, humanity peaked with the moon landings. The antibiotics created in the 1950's and 60's are getting less and less potent; help the use of antibiotics to treat animals. You think society is bad now, just wait. We are entering the new dark ages. BTW, Japan's deficit is much higher than the US or Ireland.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

No matter what, the tax cuts for the rich will continue.

Obama, with majorities in House and Senate, extended the so-called Bush tax cuts.

Gutsy call.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

chewitup : If it comes down to the wire I think Obama will lay out all his cards for people to see and decide for themselves.

chuckbello : It's about getting the best deal for your constituency. The problem is that Obama is negotiating with two entiies here, Boehner who represents mainstream Republicans and Tea Party Republicans who want no part of a compromise.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Political dysfunction at this best. And the politicians are supposed to represent the will of the people. Both parties are to blame. In this time of crisis, the country needs strong leaders to make the hard decisions unfortunately President Obama and Speaker of the House Boehner are not up to the task. It's all about political posturing.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

And why should Obama reveal his proposals and negotiations for everyone to see?

Frankly, everyone should. Just don't imagine I agree with BV, becasue he thinks only Obama should, obviously.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Breitbart : Continuing with strange statements and unrelated soundbites? When did Obama REFUSE a plan that was crafted by Boehner and Reid? And why should Obama reveal his proposals and negotiations for everyone to see? Boehner had a deal with Obama a few weeks ago but walked away. Why? Because details were leaked and he couldn't take the heat from his own party. That's what happens when you let everyone sees your cards. He's certainly not going to let you see his"plan".

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The Republicans will be desperate to try and place the blame for default on the Democrats and Obama. You wait and see. 8 years of Bush who got derided and ridiculed for just about every major decision he ever made. Unprecedented control by Republicans for nearly as long. Then in mid-nosedive they hand they are forced to hand the controls over to someone else and then blame him for not being able to pull up in time...while kicking the pilot's seat from behind! I am not longer surprised they behave this way. I am just surprised they can live with themselves.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The extension of the debt limit is being used by Republicans to extort the country into enacting policies that couldn't get approved otherwise.

Right. Boehner and Reid craft a plan, Obama refuses it - without disclosing what he thinks the country he serves should have instead - but it is the Republicans who are trying to 'extort' .

What is Obama's plan? Why can't we see it? Why do we still not even have a federal budget after 800 days of the Hope and Change presidency ?????

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

you have never met a 'tea party' activist.

I was not talking about individuals either!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Tell me, in what state of the union did you participate in or witness a 'tea party' rally?

Georgia, actually. (They're wack-jobs. Some well-meaning, but mostly wack-jobs.)

You just know that it is 'cool' to mock them because Jon Stewart does it.

No need for anyone to have to go any farther than YouTube -- search terms: "tea party" and "idiots." (The one titled "there's nothing better than a dead liberal" is particularly timely.)

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Foxie : A common misconception about the debt limit is that it concerns spending, when it's only real purpose is to pay off past debts and interest on that debt. Future spending is what's being argued now. The extension of the debt limit is being used by Republicans to extort the country into enacting policies that couldn't get approved otherwise.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

chewitup

I was not talking about rallies!

IOW - you have never met a 'tea party' activist. You just know that it is 'cool' to mock them because Jon Stewart does it.Obama said yesterday he wants us to contact our leaders in Congress and let em know what we think.I doubt he will heed the advice he got (Boehner's site overwhelmed; Reid's, about average), but it looks like he finally realizes the 'little people' are not quite as easily fooled as his handlers throughout the years have led him to believe.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

We in Europe are knee deep in the mucky brown stuff and battling to avoid a default in Greece and Ireland. It hardly matters now who was to blame for the pickle we find ourselves in.The deregulation of the banks, land and property speculators, goverments spending more then they could realisticly budget for ect. Debts have to be paid and lessons learned. So the creditors want thier pound of flesh thats what capitalism is all about, no use whinging about the consequences. Sorry if the remedy is difficult for the US to swallow but a default puts Skid Row right on its doorstep

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Tell me, in what state of the union did you participate in or witness a 'tea party' rally?

I was not talking about rallies!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

What Obama and Boehner are arguing about is whether they should keep borrowing money in order to spend it, not whether they should end the whole insane practice and get out of debt in the first place. They are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

“We’re not a bunch of knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Neanderthals,” Gowdy said.

Why would anyone think that?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

L.A. Times - who endorsed Obama in 08 - report this:

"Strong support among liberal Democrats for Obama's jobs record has plummeted 22 points from 53% down below a third. African Americans who believe the president's measures helped the economy has plunged from 77% to barely half."

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

"They are paragons of DISORDER in just about every aspect."

Tell me, in what state of the union did you participate in or witness a 'tea party' rally?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

But many tea party activists abhor political compromise. They insist that their elected officials stand on principle, regardless of the consequences.

I could support that IF they had their principles in order. They simply don't. They are paragons of DISORDER in just about every aspect.

White house 'spokes person' Jay Carney has basically admitted to the press that our president has no plan.

Chuck Todd: "Release your plan."

Jay Carney: "We've shown a lot of leg on what we were proposing."

Todd: "Why not just release it?"

Carney: "You need it written down?"

Leadership !

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I'm sorry United States, but you've defaulted on your repayment plan. Please step aside and allow the sherrifs to come in and confiscate property equal to the debt owed. Alaska will be going to Russia (they plan to swamp the world Maple syrup supply next and seize Alaska for bad debts). California will be bought up by Germany (they want their Governator back!)... and the rest of the U.S. is already owned by China. Now please move aside, and have a nice day :P .
