America rises to the occasion helping the Russian and Chinese. A good example of cooperation for the U.N.

It's the traditional rules of seafaring. Politics is never a consideration.

...rescuing the Australian ship...

There's no Australian ship in need of rescue. The original ship is Russian and named Akademik Shokalskiy. The Aussie ship (Aurola Australis) was only sent to receive then transport the passengers that the Chinese ship flew off of the Russian ship and is not stuck like the other two ships (Russian and Chinese).

Bgood41, the U.N. is beyond cooperation, beyond redemption. This seafaring episode has a lot more to do with the attitude of mariners, and the written and unspoken laws of the sea. Like paulinusa says, there are no politics there, and there won't be. Ever.

Irony: A group of Global Warming scientists head to the South Pole to study the melting ice and become trapped by heavy ice. ;p
