Those funds should be for America only.

Yes, by all means cut the aid (military and other) to Pakistan. Just make sure the NYC cabbies don't go on strike over this...

Why is "BO" not acceptable...?

Would you be happy with Mamari as an abbreviation?

manfromamerica,

"we should cut aid to Pakistan, and fully support India on their territorial claims." Love it so your 4 current military actions are not enough you are after more. In case no-one told you, you are not winning in Afghanistan, Iraq is a mess and Libya well we will leave that one alone. Oh and then theres your actions in the Philipines and the Horn of Africa. Plenty of room for more war there for sure.

Of course, the Americans have been taken for a ride. Americans and Pakistani officials acknowledged that they never agreed on the strategic goals that should drive how the money was spent, or how the Pakistanis would prove that they were performing up to American expectations. So what happens? After the Americans spend more than $5 billion in a largely failed effort to bolster the Pakistan military effort against Al Qaeda and the Taliban, some American official admits that there were too few controls over the money and the strategy to improve the Pakistani military need to be completely revamped. Then, where did the money go? Well, it was diverted to help finance weapons systems designed to counter India, not Al Qaeda or the Taliban and the United States paid ten of millions of dollars in inflated Pakistani reimbursement claims for fuel, ammunition and other costs. On top of that Pakistan receives $300 million per year in traditional American military financing that pays for equipment and training. Thus Pakistan military relies on the United States for about a quarter of its entire $4 billion budget. When calculating the benefits and losses of these kinds of expeditures, we need to include the opportunities forgone through military spending such as not enough money for health care, for schools, for parks, for the arts, for unemployment insurance, for law enforcement and for maintenance of America's highways, bridge and infrastructure etc. Therefore a heavy price is being paid for making military power the nation's top priority and about 13 to 17% of Americans continue to live below federal poverty level. Hence, the United States economy is a fine mess loaded with debt, lots of it because of decisions from Wall Street to Washington in real estate and banking, in living rooms, and boardrooms, poor choices were made and the consequences are on display. Maybe the United States was born in debt.
