U.S. Navy to probe lewd videos shown to carrier crew

I find this hilarious, that tou have people complaining about lewd activities, but supposedly they polled the military and found that over 60% of the respondents wanted a repeal of DADT.

It seems that everyone is offended by something. I say good on the CO. He was trying to bring some levity into the often dangerous activities onboard the carrier, and from inside sources he was not forcing anyone to participate in making the videos, nor were the required training. If you didn't like them, you could just not watch.

This violates the Don’t Shower Don’t Show policy implemented back when Jimmy Carter lusted after an implied nude chick in the shower for a full 15 seconds (who wasn’t even his wife) but was actually a cartoon character on probation for charges of implied nudity on board the very same first all male all nuclear powered floating city that just by coincidence, happened to belong to the air force at the time of that sordid incident as well. Obviously, if it’s a no-no for Peanut Jimmy, this is also inappropriate conduct for even the most hardened member of the armed forces.

FYI, on ships on deployments, they usually have a night of "skit nights" normally about the half-way point of the deployment where cremembers put on various skits, some would say they were lewd but it was all done in good fun. I have even seen them poke fun at the CO and make suggestive comments about the sexuality of certain crewmembers, but it was done knowing that it was in a joking manner.

A lot of these types of skits got watered down after the Tailhook incident in 1991 (or 1992), when the PC police under Rep Pat Shroder took aim at the USN and all of its "boys will be boys" attitudes.

This CO is an aviator, and they normally put on some hard hitting shows on carriers, and I guess that the new breed of sailors don't find it funny. But at the same time, they can probably watch a video of some half naked persons grinding to a song with lyrics just as raunchy and call it entertainment.

I guess in a few years we will see the ending of the Shellback ceremony too.

They complain about this but making music and music videos constantly using the "N" word is ok and normal. Well to a degree. We wouldn't want to hear a white guy say it. But he can listen to it no problem. This is petty.

@SolidanTea, I agree but just becuase it was the CO (a very high ranking person), and it will probably be found that he will be removed for cause, it may make some news. Since the Enterprise is a nuke, the reactor was never in questions, but can you imagine if the CO of the George Washington here in Yokosuka would have done this? There would be protests just because it was the GW and the press here would sensationalize it because it is nuclear.

Just goes to show, that the same media drive that goes on with the military here in Japan gets some of the same press play in America.

I served on the Enterprise during Capt. Honors' tenure as XO. I do not know of one person on the ship that was offended by the videos. That included people I knew were gay. The crew looked forward to XO Movie Night. It was a nice moment of levity in an otherwise serious world. The skits, while crude and in what some people would consider bad taste, were not done out of malice towards any particular group.

As far as the gutless complaints I believe he is meant how no one came to him directly and said "Sir, I find your videos offensive." CAPT Honors is the kind of officer that would have sincerely listened to someone that spoke with him directly.

What I find funny about this whole thing is how Capt. Honors is in such deep doodoo over videos that are, at worst, PG-13. Movies with content far more offensive are shown on a regular basis.

Those will be next to be banned, Site T.V movies on-board will be replaced with sensitivity training films to promote harmonious multicultural diversity in a completely Politically Correct environment. Spreading joy and knowledge to all who are board for those 6 to 9 month deployments with already limited off duty entertainment options as it is.

Wow the complainers must also heed those TV warning that the following broadcast contains scenes of nudity, coarse language and violence. I guess they wouldn't watch "Don't mess with the Zohan" then because it would hurt their feelings. Seems most comments from others on a different site that I watched the video on agree than no harm was done. A big deal over nothing.

Why bother defending this country anymore.

Mike Huntez, what you are complaining about with music videos and the n-word has no correlation to this story. The people making music videos are not bound by the UCMJ. The officer must be a dope to think that no one would complain. I wouldn't have but one has to remember that not everyone looks at humor the same. Someone of that rank has to have been in for at least 20 years. Think he would know better.

AGREED....Gosh making videos during that deployment and having a few yuks to help with morale ...an gosh by the XO ...Ain't that a sin.

Well Mocheake if you were deployed on a ship for the better part of a year I wonder if you'd not be up for some comic relief to ease tensions with your crew members who live in very close quarters for extended periods. I'm willing to bet your bleeding heart personality couldn't handle it. I know I'd be hard pressed to handle it that well myself which is why I never served in the navy but instead chose air force.

@sailwind: I think this is happening. Now, the Navy's motto is "A Global Force for Good." Whatever that means. The CO came from an era when the ships pulled in to places on deployment, men were allowed to "be men" and go out and have a good time, not like it is today where when you pull in, the first thing you have to do is some community relations project where you go build some school or hospital.
