All of this, is a mess. Who wins?? Not the American people! Both REPUBLICANS, yes BOTH, and democrats, should get FINED, yes, hey you do not do your jobs, screw you! I could just as easily play the same game and say the sequestration was a part of all of those deals so you should have no problem supporting it today. But I won't.

Actually you should say it, sequestration was quite prominent in the deals that I cited, so much so that they had to go redo the use of the sequester in 1987 because the first time it failed Constitutional muster and they rewrote it to make sure it could comply with the Constitution in who had the actually authority to implement it.

1987 Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Reaffirmation Act

In response to the Supreme Court decision, the Congress revisited the 1985 law and revised the sequestration procedures to bring the original law in line with the provisions of Bowsher v. Synar. The 1987 law, which was signed by President Reagan on September 29, 1987, moved sequestration authority from the office of the Comptroller General to the White House OMB, thus assigning the power to execute the law to the executive branch. The 1987 law also increased the public debt limit and the delayed by two years the deadline for passing a balanced budget. This law itself would be superseded by the Budget Enforcement Act of 1990.

but we didn't have to face a Republican party who put a blanked ban on tax increases with a refusal to compromise. -

Not true at all: Two months ago.

The measure, brought to the House floor less than 24 hours after its passage in the Senate, was approved 257 to 167, with 85 Republicans joining 172 Democrats in voting to allow income taxes to rise for the first time in two decades, in this case for the highest-earning Americans. Voting no were 151 Republicans and 16 Democrats.

The bill was expected to be signed quickly by Mr. Obama, who won re-election on a promise to increase taxes on the wealthy.

Those Republicans really know how to help illegal immigrants. $165 / day * 2000 = $330,000 per day

If we release 8,000 more, than it goes up to $1.6 million of savings per day, or almost $50 million / month.

I bet illegal immigrants don't even make $165 per day when they are working in the fields picking fruit and veggies.

They have taken jobs away causing the middle class of America to deteriorate. Generally taxes never gets paid and free health, education and welfare benefits are made available.

At least in the state where I live employers withhold part of their workers’ pay to cover state and local income taxes, then send the money to the state Department of Revenue. Counties get the money back each spring after workers file their tax returns. But they only receive part of the money, because some workers — often undocumented immigrants — never file. The money that goes unclaimed are funds that counties desperately need to run public operations but ends up money that just kind of sits right in the pot somewhere and kind of makes its way to the state general fund. Because the state has built a billion plus surplus, in part with income tax revenue never returned to the county, localities are stretched to the limit and have had to begin taking desperate measures like turning county roads back to gravel. The counties keep on demanding and the state keeps on greasing the wheels. It is a very tough and deeply rooted problem. Both parties are complicit in not ensuring the sovereignty of our nation and the protection of our jobs in favor of cheaper prices by turning a blind eye to illegal workers, because they are cheap.

For some persons this budget cuts are positive news. But US will pay likely more maintaining them outside jail.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The US air force can shift more than 2000 soldiers to any place on earth in one day, so why not shift these illegal immigrants to where ever they came from instead of letting them go back american communities? Is it such easy to take them back prison even budget past sometime later like the way govn. release them?

sailwind: I do not believe we are in agreement at all as to the understanding the issue the same way. My understanding of the issue is based and the historical fact that raising the debt ceiling has been used by Democrats and Republicans to further their legislative priorities and that bi-partisan legislation and hard fought compromises come out of it to during the more intense engagements to raise the debt ceiling between the Executive branch and Congress

False equivalency in an extreme way. We both know that those were passed a time when the Tea Party didn't control the Republican party. To put it another way, the negotiations and compromises that were achieved to avert a crisis were possible back then. We faced sequester then as we do now, but we didn't have to face a Republican party who put a blanked ban on tax increases with a refusal to compromise. That is the little wrinkle that is creating the crisis today.

I could just as easily play the same game and say the sequestration was a part of all of those deals so you should have no problem supporting it today. But I won't.

The Woodward story is going nowhere. After seeing the actual emails from both sides most people agree there was no threat and not even any animosity after they wrote each other. Woodward himself has come out and said it was never a threat and he never felt threatened, so I don't see why you feel you should be able to say it.

Do not believe these illegal scare tactics:

The US has millions of illegal immigrants so I hardly think an extra 2,000 will have much of an effect. So all the crime and violence about this is way overblown. It is Spring so getting a job will be fairly easy compared to Winter.

=You will constantly be hearing stories in the media about the illegals and how much more money Gov needs to control them. People should not be supporting this fear and anger the Obama administration and Congress is trying to warrant. These people need to cut back Gov and that greatly includes the military.

These illegals were only held in jail because the Gov has a choice to do that.

The real issue isn't so much "them" vs. us, but rather the wealthy using illegal labor and not paying for various externalities incurred. More privatizing profit and socializing costs (healthcare education, etc.) which many of the 1% have enjoyed.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Welcome to the land of opportunities for more illegal immigrants. Some of them have fraudulent identities and they are former and current criminals. It will cause burden and risks to legal residents. Allowing them to be free as birds in the community will encourage more opportunistic people to cross the border. After all it is a promise land for them. Santa Clause Obama will shower them with free healthcare, free child birth and, free tuition.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Sequester has nothing to do with this conversation. Suppose Shizuoka opened its prison doors to illegal aliens and nobody in Tokyo knew about it. Then what? Who is in charge? Obviously not the secretary nor President Obama.

A useless play on words that doesn't describe the issue as both of us understand it to be. This is all about Republicans extracting concessions via the debt ceiling that they don't have the votes for.

I do not believe we are in agreement at all as to the understanding the issue the same way. My understanding of the issue is based and the historical fact that raising the debt ceiling has been used by Democrats and Republicans to further their legislative priorities and that bi-partisan legislation and hard fought compromises come out of it to during the more intense engagements to raise the debt ceiling between the Executive branch and Congress:

In other words, raising the debt ceiling the past years have not been routine rubber stamp matters each and every time it was placed before Congress to approve. Many times it was routine and many times it was knock down drag out fights as we've recently had. The results of the more intense fights have resulted in the following hard fought legislation being passed:

Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 (Gramm-Rudman-Hollings) the legislation was enacted to increase the debt ceiling to $2.079 trillion.

Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Reaffirmation Act of 1987 (Gramm-Rudman-Hollings II) The bill to which these changes in budget procedures were attached was one to increase the debt ceiling by $448 billion, to $2.8 trillion, following two small increases earlier in the year.

Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA90) Small increases in the debt ceiling were enacted in August and October 1990. But one title of the Act provided for a $915 billion increase in the debt ceiling, which was thought to be sufficient to get through the November 1992 national elections.

NOTE: It was the Democrats who controlled both Houses of Congress these years and where the ones demanding concessions.

Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 (OBRA93) In addition, the Act extended the discretionary spending caps and PAYGO through fiscal year 1998. Finally, the Act included a $530 billion increase in the debt ceiling, to $4.9 trillion.

NOTE: Republicans where in charge on this one in Congress.

Bottom line Obama is full of it by pushing the narrative that Republicans are extremists who all of the sudden became obstinate on raising the debt ceiling.

You refused to comment directly on the words contained in the email. You're still holding on to a manufactured position that I know you know is disingenuous.

I did comment directly on it on another thread when I first brought it up. . A Senior Whitehouse official in his e-mail told Mr. Woodward that he was going to regret publishing this in the future. Mr. Woodward can only be an effective reporter he he has access to be able to interview and vet information from the Whitehouse. The Whitehouse has now gone public with their extreme displeasure with his reporting and has leaked e-mail to one of their media lapdogs to discredit him and to take him down. He'll never be able to get anything from this Whitehouse in any meaningful way to report on it ever again. In what is pretty unbelievable the whitehouse claims they never really threatened him or his career yet then go ahead and carry out the threat anyway.

The U.S. is becoming another third-world country. When Saddam Hussein released thousands upon thousands of prisoners in Iraq prior to the U.S. invasion, everybody became excited about this. Barak Hussein Obama does a similar thing, and nobody gives a hoot.

Obama signed the Budget Control Act of 2011 on August 2, 2011. That makes him solely responsible for the sequester.

in 2000, the US government was in a surplus status. Bush came and created 911 and two wars with plump defense contracts, then the economy came to the current situation. Obama has been trying to make it easier for low income families to survive what Bush created. The problem is that the rich are so attached to their money that they will do anything to make Obama look like a failure.

The secretary of homeland insecurity learned about by watching Gov. Brewer's complaints on TV. It's a farce and everyone knows that billions of dollars have been wasted on airport "security." Honest, law-abiding travelers suffer because of a few, whom homeland insecurity already has identified on the "no fly list." Unfortunately, there is nothing the average traveler can do about. In the USA military it is "Hurry up and wait."

Jesus, is this an opening to crime season? Why not put them to do some work like road clean-up? I am sure they could work something out with the states on this matter rather than releasing them to the states for added burdens.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It shows how dysfunctional Obama's administration is all about. Janet Napolitano excuses herself by claiming she wished to be informed before hand, and she is the head of department. Simply, it is about political tactic than expanding the law of the land for Obama's agenda. The headline is rather off the mark.

SuperLib,

Sailwind went around the bend when Obama won in his first landslide victory. But the republicans are still trying to unelect him by attempting to destroy the country with fiscal blackmail. We have met the enemy and it is the republican party of No. It is based all on hatred of Obama over country, all of this rooted of course in racism.

sailwind: The debt ceiling was raised through a Bi-partisan compromise. Claiming the Republicans refused to raise the debt ceiling is inaccurate they voted to raise it

A useless play on words that doesn't describe the issue as both of us understand it to be. This is all about Republicans extracting concessions via the debt ceiling that they don't have the votes for.

a designated enemy of the White house and is now a target of the rest of Obama's media complex for doing

There is an endless list of nonsensical, often idiotic, government programs that could be cut. But no, Obama elects to cut only the essential parts of the budget, in order to excert political pressures. This is pure party politics at the expense of the nation --- really a disgrace to the White House.

now out of jail and not being deported they will take low paying jobs or get unemployment or get free schooling and health benefits. These are not people who have any loyalty to America, who are fanatics of Mexico national soccer and culture. many dont even learn English, they breed quickly so they can get welfare benefits for their children who are citizens and mothers can stay in the country.. who when they do make money send it out of the country to Mexico.. and 25% of the population in America is Mexican.

Apologies, Obama's full quote during the Oct debate:

“The sequester is not something that I proposed. It’s something that Congress has proposed,” Obama said. “It will not happen.”

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Republican Plan Part 1: Create a financial crisis by refusing to raise the debt ceiling.

The debt ceiling was raised through a Bi-partisan compromise. Claiming the Republicans refused to raise the debt ceiling is inaccurate they voted to raise it.

Republican Plan Part 2: Blame anything that could go wrong on Obama

“The sequester is not something I proposed, it's something that Congress proposed. It will not happen.”

— President Obama in the third presidential debate in October

He lied, he proposed it and he owns it and he lied in the Presidential debate as it has now happen, even as he emphatically assured the American people that it wasn't going to after all.

As reported and documented by Bob Woodward, who is now officially a designated enemy of the White house and is now a target of the rest of Obama's media complex for doing a little actual real investigative reporting instead of just lap dogging for Obama and his administration and repeating his talking points.

Obama personally approved of the plan for Lew and Nabors to propose the sequester to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. They did so at 2:30 p.m. July 27, 2011, according to interviews with two senior White House aides who were directly involved.

It's unfortunate but deportation for illegal aliens is essential since many have broken the law. They have taken jobs away causing the middle class of America to deteriorate. Generally taxes never gets paid and free health, education and welfare benefits are made available. In addition the sad truth is that high percentages of young people get involved in crimes. But majority of the Americans are supportive of legal immigration according to some statistics. However this issue seems to have gotten out of control. It has created more problems and the American economy is hurting and will probably get worst. Some feel that it is a racist idea since majority of the illegal immigrants are of Hispanic origin. Good luck America for as long as the border remains widely open more illegal immigrants will come to take advantage of the American dream.

I think it might be entirely possible that the 2000 that were released was a diversion to cover up the release of at least one detainee as a request from a foreign entity. The timing of course was rather unfortunate and may have actually drawn attention to and ruined the stealthy aspects of the operation turning it into a comedy of errors. Of course the joke will end up on the American people -- Obama could also be poking us in the eye, kicking us in the groin, and all the time laughing about it.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Billions in taxes already raised. The economy is in a tailspin not yet reflected in the governments phony statistics. And the sequester does not cut any spending, only reduces already planned increases. Let out the criminals, after all the president want to give them citizenship to vote for future winners like him.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Republican Plan Part 1: Create a financial crisis by refusing to raise the debt ceiling.

Republican Plan Part 2: Blame anything that could go wrong on Obama.

This could all be taken care of tomorrow if Republicans didn't treat the debt ceiling like a political football.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Obama is trying scare moves to bring fear into the equation over the sequestration. He is cutting founds for things that we need to have so that he is the "right" one if something should go wrong.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

No criminal activity? Entering a country illegally is a criminal offense.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Another article noted that those released had been detained simply due to their status; they had been accused of no criminal activity. Under earlier Federal policy, they would not have been detained in the first place.

Logic, however, is unlikely to deter right-wing wrath, though. Arizona governor and poster-person for the politically crazy, Jan Brewer, has already let forth with this:

I personally believe that it could be payback. It could be 'punish Arizona, make them squirm.' They're pushing back on what we're pushing on.

Non-violent detainees released in California due to budget cuts caused by sequestration really has nothing to do with Arizona's internal state policies, but let's not let that stop you, Jan. Expect more illogical outbursts soon.
