WASHINGTON — The United States on Wednesday sanctioned North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for the first time

Hang on, Un has been a stick in the eye since dad passed and now DPRK is sanctioned?

Is the State Department going to issue a memo officially designating Mr. Kim a doody-head, too? Perhaps Congress can approve a resolution condemning his haircut?

Ahh! Such pressure!

USA has one of the worst civil rights records - Not as bad a NK, but they are certainly trending that way.

Sanctions again?

The USA should have direct talks with Pyong Yang IF solving this problem is the sincere aim.

Otherwise it's really just for show .

Or it seems that way for many observers.

It is a sign that “there probably isn’t much of a hope for a diplomatic resolution,”

Fat boy picks up phone "Hello China. Bad USA says it will not use diplomatic action against me next time. Looks like you will have to help me to fight the imperial dogs barking at my door."

Is he mad enough to start a (continue the Korean) war ?

Fat boy may use that for a reason to attack as he could claim to China that USA etc will most likely use force than diplomatic action the next time he launches another satalite rocket (aka balistic missile test).

I have the impression that when Trump becomes president, Lil' Kim and Trump will be besties.

I have the impression that when Trump becomes president, Lil' Kim and Trump will be besties.

The buzz back in the day when Reagan was elected president and the Iranians were holding the American hostages was: What is flat and glows in the dark? Ans. Iran after the inauguration. I think this would apply more with Trump as well. A lot of the in-your-face and I-dare-you-to-do-something upstart countries are going to get swatted like the annoying flies they are.

As far as I know, North Korea doesn't have large quantities of natural resources. So why is the U.S. interested in badgering this small country? Is it because they are slowly being pushed out of Japan?

He will be soooooooooo unhappy about this. Will see the light and totlally change his ways.

Is he still eligible to be Trump's running mate?

Apparently the stress of it all is making Li'l Kim binge-eat late at night, hence the dramatic weight gain over the past year.

@gokai.. Why don't they try holding Transparent talks !! They say that the definition of madness/ stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. We' VE had these sanctions against NK since granddaddy Kim,3 generations of sanctioned Kims! I know, they've had various talks before, but, I may be wrong on this, at the end of these talks, I've always wondered why we have always been told of what only one side TOLD North Korea, Never ONCE have I had what NK's demands were, especially with the abduction issues. Former PM Koizumi will shuffle back with a stern face saying " We strongly told him to return the abductees otherwise we will not give them aid" or things of that nature. Never once have had a truly TRANSPARENT bi/ multi-lateral talk revealed to the people. Personally, I feel North Korea will suffer to the gates of hell before giving in...if ever. They should have TRANSPARENT talks , if a friendship develops then that'll be a good, progressive and desirable progress.

Ah, because sanctions are so effective...

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

North Korea only wants to talk to the US because NK considers South Korea and Japan as beneath them.

But SK and Japan and China all want a seat on the table because they believe no peace would truly hold unless they're part of it.

So the US insists that any talks should be a 5-party talk.

Since sanctions don't work, they should just go to war and that'll settle one way or another.

These measures are over-due. Let's hope that there's a strengthening of the drive to curb the abuses of human rights that this repulsive regime inflicts on its people. The North Korean master - as a pure Communist state - is now growing-up and entering the more human world of democracy. Nothing;s perfect in this human world but that's as near as we get to fairness and respect for human life. North Korea should respect that the old days of armed bullying are over, and respect enhances life - domination cheapens it.

NK has more excuse to test its new nuclear missile toward JS bases in SK and Japan.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Sincerely speaking, I think NK is the LEAST armed country in that neighborhood. Russia and China are outright nuclear powers, Japan and SK fall under the umbrella of the US which is a Nuclear lower and has military bases in those countries. People talk about the massive bombing of Tokyo, but if put in order, I would place Pyongyang as the number one MOST bombed city given that they had no mitigational equipment, except for the warrens of tunnels they had built, Dresden comes second and Tokyo third. With that experience in their psyche, I can forgive for not wanting a repeat of the same. Again, I think the way to reach North Koreans is through their brothers- S.Korea, they understand the intricacies of each other and can / should possibly beginwith the FEW things they see eye to eye. Kim Dae Jung should be given credit for his "Sunshine policy", and also the Kaesong industry project ,more of those peaceful projects could catalyse a convivial spirit. I believe the way to NK is through SK knowing well that there is no fight like a brothers fight.
