"Messages on the department’s internal television station include reminders of what constitutes suspicious activity, such as someone drawing a diagram of a piece of important infrastructure or someone wearing a heavy coat while it’s 115 degrees Fahrenheit (45 Celsius) outside."

Good, let's inform the bad guys what we're looking for, shall we? But I think they can take photos with their phones instead of sketching. And if the Phoenix police need to be told that normal people don't wear coats there in summer, Phoenix has more urgent problems than the 9-11 anniversary. The American authorities are compelled to issue this kind of announcement every year and put more cops on overtime duty because the previous administration did receive notification of a terrorist plot and ignored it. Thereafter they can not afford to take any potential threat lightly.

"10 years on and the US are still living in fear"

10 years on and the U.S. has suffered zero attacks from Al-Qaida. This says a lot about the effectiveness of their security measures!

In my experience the people telling me that we live in complete fear from terrorists are usually the same people telling me that the US is creating a billion terrorists a second with our foreign policy. So in an odd way they are the ones trying to get me to believe terrorists are everywhere while at the same time telling me that I should not have any fear from terrorism.

10 years on and the U.S. has suffered zero attacks from Al-Qaida. This says a lot about the effectiveness of their security measures!

No. Only the number of attacks thwarted by security personnel would do that. As far as I know, there have not been any attempts from al-Quaida since 9-11, unless you count the shoe bomber, who was thwarted by female flight attendants, not security personnel. Pretty much all al-Quaida has to do now is TALK, and America quakes. And now we all have to take off our shoes at the airport, which is just plain silly and more evidence of fear. Why? Because people actually think security is doing something useful by wasting their time like that. You got to be living in fear to think that helps. Security did not catch the original shoe bomber, nor have we seen one since.

Then you got people who seem to just imagine they are al-Quaida members, like the Underwear Bomber, who again, was not caught by security. Instead, he just caught fire.

Then you have a list of people pretty much arrested for talking or having been totally set up by the FBI and could not have done jack squat without the help of the FBI. That is not preventing terror attacks. That is more like planting a bomb and then expecting to be hailed a hero when you come in and defuse it.

Security is a joke, and the joke only gets more embarrasing when they speak of increasing security because of an anniversary and people breathe a misplaced sigh of relief from fear given them courtesy of al-Quaida. They scored a victory in America. There is 10 years of proof.

This sort of news only shows that the terrorists have won a victory in America.

Not too sure about the comments about Muslim Americans and President Obama?? Any way, it is stupid to think that a war on terrorism will ever be truly won. We are talking about age old religions, brainwashed psychos that are hell bent on shoving sharia law etc..down our throats at any costs, this has nothing to do with Mr.Obama, he is trying his best, not like that idiot of George W, Mission Accomplished?? My ass! Why was Bush so stupid and never able to find Osama Bin Laden?? I guess because he was and still is well, not the sharpest tool in the shed, but Mr.Obama, is doing a better job no matter what the fat hot wind big of Limbaugh says nor his brainwashed ditto heads. It is better to be safe than sorry, ask the Israelis, as Brits, as the Spanish, they know about terrorism, and now in the USA, here in Japan etc..we must also be vigilante. All it takes is for 1 guy or gal to get lucky, blow themselves up and guess what?? You sitting next to them in the plane end up on the evening news right?? I for one, do not want to make the evening news like this and if Guantanamo still has vacancies, I say lets keep sending crazy terrorists there and let them have a good time in Cuba or whatever Guantanamo is supposed to be. Never forget how we got screwed on Septermber 11th, these terrorists live and die for this kind of shit. Peace out.

@Jack - Fortunately, for us and most of the world, we are not surrender monkeys. Just a fact.

One of my Japanese high school students here in Tokyo was waiting to meet his Japanese uncle, flying from NYC out here to Tokyo, his uncle, Mr.Aoyama, same last name as my student, Aoyama kun, was on those banners of dead and or missing passengers from the first American Airlines that struck into one of the World Trade Center Towers, I will never forget going to teach, the look of sadness, despair on my young students face, and for Japanese getting the body of a dead relative to cremate and put in an OHAKA etc..is very, very important, until this day, they have not gotten even one single hair, nothing, nada, zip, zilch, just a few pictures of their uncle Mr.Aoyama showing them around Disneyland etc..in the USA so lets thanks that idiot George W. Bush for being asleep at the wheel and that the Bush family and the Bin laden family are great friends and filthy rich from the same industry, OIL!

Complete? A billion a second? If not for your own self generated exaggerations you might get a clue what people are trying to tell you.

"As far as I know there have not been any attempts from al-Quaida since 9-11"

As far as you know.

"we all have to take off our shoes at the airport, which is just plain silly"

A lot of security experts would disagree.

This is just a way for homeland security, failed policemen etc to justify their jobs and money. This will happen every year, and their salaries will continue every year.

Muslim Americans are where Obama's 'favorability' ratings are now the highest so if we see some nutjobs trying a large scale attack to 'commemorate' 9-11 or avenge bin Laden I think it will be foreign Mohammedans.

This sort of news only shows that the terrorists have won a victory in America.

It's a matter of interpretation. I'm quite prepared to believe that there are certain people in the MSM who are far more sympathetic to our enemies than the general US population is and they like to paint that picture - and the dog whistles do reach a certain kind of nihilistic, cynical malcontent out there - but simple logic tells us that if no one has claimed victory the war is yet raging. More predator drones and Hellfire missiles! should be the message on the 11th.

Getting closer to 9/11.....time for foreign media outlets to play up the US security angle again.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

10 years on and the US are still living in fear of attacks. This says a lot about the effectiveness of their foreign policies!

@Serrano

I agree with you! US security measures are effective. And the country is still living in fear! Once again, this says a lot about the effectiveness of their foreign policies. A less aggressive stance may be a better long term solution. Instead of shotting the bad guys in Afghanistan or elsewhere(which is feeding more hatred towards America and their allies). Just an opinion.

Headline should read "U.S. denial intensifying as 9/11 anniversary nears" It'S 10 years on and still no proper explanation how WTC7 was brought down.
