Republicans will use their new dominance of Congress to repeal or cut back President Barack Obama’s health care reforms,

So Boehner will simply continue to waste Congress' time, and extend the gridlock, because he knows full well the President will veto any repeal measure. Why can't they decide to actually govern, rather than simply charge ahead with silly, ideological games? Boehner is a horrible excuse for a leader.

8 ( +15 / -7 )

I notice Boehner is already asking Obama 'not to act alone' and veto any attempts to repeal his key legislation or what have you. The party of 'no' is asking Obama not to use their mantra? hahaha! Classic! Get ready for them to whine about what comes around after years of dishing it out.

10 ( +15 / -4 )

@smithinjapan Especially after years of requiring 60 votes for Reed to do anything in the Senate. Payback is a ___.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

The Senate and Obama were guilty of shoving the blame of lack of performance on Congress. They played dirty. The turnaround shows what the public wants. Obama will continue to resist any and all agreement. His political ideology differs quite a bit from the public. This will be a difficult road for US until he is replaced. How in the world he was elected a second tern still confuses me.

Amazing to think there's actually conservatives out there who think that by voting in the same pack of economic terrorists who brought us:

a global economic meltdown a government shutdown 2 unwinnable wars attacks on women, LGBTs, minorities and the environment who voted down jobs bills and infrastructure bills, and

who want to pillage social security for people who have worked their arses off, including those conservatives parents and grandparents,

that they are somehow going to get a different result this time.

With thinking like that, it's no wonder the GOP -and conservatives are dragging the country they pretend to love down to third world status.

13 ( +18 / -4 )

How in the world he was elected a second tern still confuses me.

If you came out of the bubble occasionally, you'd realize he's the best president in years. The fact that your country didn't suffer a complete an economic collapse at the start of his term is one thing. The fact that you have a semblance of a national health plan is another.

15 ( +18 / -3 )

a global economic meltdown---Banks were to blame.

a government shutdown---The Dems spent federal monies to cause the very public pain, just a sill game.

2 unwinnable wars---Afghanistan was justified, 9/11 could not go unanswered. Iraq....Hillary voted to go!

attacks on women, LGBTs, minorities and the environment---When, where and how?

who voted down jobs bills and infrastructure bills, and who want to pillage social security for people who have worked their arses off, including those conservatives parents and grandparents, ---Meanwhile Obama squandered billions upon billions of dollars with NO return!

that they are somehow going to get a different result this time.----I don't think so either but not for good ideas. More due to a stubborn extreme US President.

In an alternate reality, in a far away land, there is a headline that reads:

Speaker Pelosi touts bill to repeal Romneycare, build Keystoner solar energy grid.

If Boehner sounds peeved, it's because a press conference dragged him away from his main interests: chain smoking, drinking, and shmoozing.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Same ol', same ol', Republicans wasting government time and money, instead of actually doing something.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

A waste of two more years, all because these GOP guys are too mean to build a decent public healthcare system like every other country in the industrialized world (and lots of the developing world), and too corrupt to resist anything that limits corporate power even when it is demonstrably deleterious to Americans.

Those guys are going to try to drive the country even further into the sewer. No money for healthcare, plenty of money for international wars.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Terrible. But at least I got MINE, no need to help others or in any way have a society worth living in. (Yes that's sarcasm.)

No bubble for me. Reality is quite clear. And I would write the the complete opposite regarding the President and his popularity polls show it. Look at the mid-term result, that was Obama's political agenda online.

Obamacare....yet to be determined. Delayed implementation to minimise pain. And increasing rates on a sluggish economy. It will fail, you will see.

Your replies are often personally offensive and obnoxious. This would suggest the "Bubble Boy" syndrome. Not very intelligent.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Unreal - the same conservative folks who fully supported the last GOP economic trainwreck and global meltdown have just voted back in the SAME folks who delivered it.

And they're elated about it??

The insanity on the Right is never-ending.

Us Global Liberals fully expect you guys to screw up >every time< - and you never fail to deliver.

You just screwed up massively - yet again - by voting the GOP back in.

At least you're consistent! :-)

6 ( +10 / -4 )

@ SushiSake3 - Under Obama we are on a train wreck. It may not be been so evident but the national debt it out of control. Every household in USA would owe over $200,000. Bush admin owns some, Obama went hog-wild! Bush started Tarp to rescue the banks. Obama spent on "Shovel Ready Jobs", where? Billions upon billions of dollars with no return.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

MarkG, you've bought into the lies and spin from the Right, too.

You want to talk jobs? Where's the jobs?

Let's talk jobs -  Right now, America's enjoying the longest period of private sector job creation in American history..

www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/wp/2014/09/15/obamas-claim-that-businesses-are-in-the-longest-uninterrupted-stretch-of-job-creation/

Deficit? Let's talk deficit:

The Federal budget deficit is shrinking. It’s been reduced by two-thirds since 2009. "The $1.4 trillion federal budget deficit that Obama inherited in 2009 was in a large part due to the high rate of unemployment.  When millions of people were put out of work in 2008 and 2009, it resulted in far less income taxes and less economic activity to generate federal revenue. As ten million people have been put back to work, there have been billions more tax dollars generated. As a result, the deficit has been SHRINKING each year.  The 2014 deficit is projected to be around $500 billion, the smallest deficit since 2007 and roughly 1/3 of what it was in 2009."

www.usgovernmentspending.com/federal_deficit_chart.html

Hey, income taxes are way down, too.

"For 95% of American taxpayers, income taxes are lower now than just about any time in the previous 50 years. After President Obama took office, thousands of Tea Party members all over the country held rallies protesting Obama’s tax increases.  At that time, President Obama had actually passed several tax cuts to stimulate the economy.  Most of the Tea Partiers who were protesting had only seen their taxes decrease under Obama. Yet polls indicated that most Tea Party members wrongly believed their taxes had gone up. In fact, the only people whose income taxes have gone up during Obama’s presidency are those making $400,000 per year or more.  That's less than 2% of the population.  Today, for the vast majority of people, tax rates are exactly where they were when Obama first took office or lower. The article below from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities explains this in greater detail."

www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=3151

Oops!

Oh, and one more - Obamacare's added years to the life of Medicare. "The Medicare trust fund had been on course to run out of money by the end of 2016. But due to cost savings from the Affordable Care Act and lower healthcare expenses, Medicare’s trust fund is now stable until the year 2030 without cutting benefits."

Some trainwreck!

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Obama has been the most divisive president and nothing more to expect from this narcissistic person. The fireworks will explode in the next two years. "Hope" and "change" have duped many folks to follow this demigod like blinded side horses. Americans spoke twice in 2010 and this midterm, but his concern is about wealth distribution and himself. The deficit is at largest level, more folks are on food stamps including minorities group, his Afghanistan war brought about more opium production than ever with disaster foreign affairs from Libya, Syria, Ukraine, ISIS, and more Iraqis are dying everyday. Allegedly speaking if Obama wrote a secret letter to another demigod in Iran, that would enrage the Sunni nations in leading to more blood shed in years to come. The dictators across the globe gone wild and extremist chopping people heads while he laughed on golf cart after showing a sad face 5mn. earlier on TV. Obama has lost credibility in the world standing, except the blinded side Obamabots who resort to nonsense blame games as we see here.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

The only ones to blame are the citizens of the U.S. Not the banks, corporations or your politicians. They got the way they did because you let them. Take responsibility and dont be so lazy. Everyone wants to be babysat, and shrug their shoulders when they should be standing up together in their community to voice concerns/greivances/demands. Everyone is easily distracted and dooped into whatever they here on TV or in corporate newspapers. In the end, most dont pay attention and don`t care enough. Too many bills to pay.

Repeal Obamacare?! Good to see that the Repubs are not out to waste any time on something that is plainly impossible.

Some tinkering around the edges might be possible, such as repealing the medical device tax (and we'll see if they come up with some other funding method or just add it to the debt) or eliminating the 30-hour employee mandate (this would encourage companies to limit employees to 39.5 hours per week, but at least those thrown off their employer insurance would be able to pick it up on the market); eliminating the requirement for insurance, though, would irreparably damage the program. The ACA is a bit like a mini car; there are few things you can jettison (radio, fuzzy dice) before it simply ceases to run.

Still, that is likely the GOP's gambit. They do not like government, nor do they like to govern. If they can destroy a government program that has brought insurance to millions and peace of mind by not being tied to ones employer to even more, well, that is a good day at the office for them.

Granted. I think you kind are in a cave thinking that before the election things were just dandy. The elections were a tidel wave of anti-Obama policies, pure and simple. All your anger (To my delight) won't change it. Dems had every opportunity to do something good and work within the two party system, if you want a one party rule, there's akways China. The president is still trying to be defiant, let him. He's a lame duck that HAS to reach out to an all new Republican congress.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

I think you kind are in a cave thinking that before the election things were just dandy.

There were troubles, but they were pretty good. Obama's biggest problem is that he has been crap at speaking of his accomplishments. Even now I wonder why he hasn't been more vocal about his successes. There is no doubt that the Republicans have entirely decimated him in the PR campaign, and that's why the democrats lost the election.

The elections were a tidel wave of anti-Obama policies, pure and simple.

Not exactly. They were a testament to the very skilled Republican PR teams. And they were definitely a response to anti-Obama sentiment, since that was the Republican's entire elections strategy, to say 'we aren't Obama'. The sad thing is that he hadn't sold himself well enough, or picked apart the Republican's weaknesses enough to win.

All your anger (To my delight) won't change it. I'm not angry - this is the same American public that voted in Bush twice. I was shocked the second time he was voted in. Now I'm not surprised at all. I'm even hopeful - it may be that since the Republicans won't be spending all their time trying to fight President Blackenstein, they may actually get something done. We'll see.

What successes? If the people, the voters felt that Obama was doing his job and to the best of his ability, there is NO way the GOP could've won. It doesn't matter what you think or I for that matter. It's the people who are feeling the anger and the only way they can vent and show their displeasure is at the polls and what the people see is failure and the inability to listen, compromise and to work with the opposition.

There is no doubt that the Republicans have entirely decimated him in the PR campaign, and that's why the democrats lost the election.

Sorry, it was Obama and his policies that decimated him. The Republicans just put a spotlight on him for all the country to see, the Dems did the same thing to Bush and deservingly so.

That's politics.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

I think its pretty obvious to non americans that Obama has done a great job for the USA, especially early on!

DESPITE the repubs simply saying NO to anything the Dems tried to do Obama got some pretty BIG things done.

I really wonder if the opposition hadn't been so against Obama what more he could have done, its been disgusting watching them sabotage their own country for 6yrs & the next 2 are likely going to make people throw up!

I also think most yanks are actually truly sick & disgusted with politics in general, voter turn out certainly points to that. Also the repub certainly DID NOT win by enough to call it a mandate.

Yank politics will likely be interesting for sure but likely nasty as hell & the people left on the sidelines to watch the madness we are about to witness

I think its pretty obvious to non americans that Obama has done a great job for the USA, especially early on!

It's easy to say things like that when you're on the outside looking in. And it also depends on where they are your political believes lie either towards liberalism and conservatism, not to mention if you are a fair person and not a partisan then you will go by the job performance of the president. So from what the people have seen he has done a terrible job and this is a repudiation of those failed policies

DESPITE the repubs simply saying NO to anything the Dems tried to do Obama got some pretty BIG things done.

Why would the GOP agree to anything that goes against their ideology or if they think it's bad for the country? When Bush was in power it was exact opposite no different. OBL and Obamacare, that's pretty much it on a large scale of things.

I really wonder if the opposition hadn't been so against Obama what more he could have done,

Stop spending and printing money and stop racking up the deficit to $18 trillion

its been disgusting watching them sabotage their own country for 6yrs & the next 2 are likely going to make people throw up!

Now you understand why the people that had enough and demanded that congress changes and finally kick out the Democrats.

I also think most yanks are actually truly sick & disgusted with politics in general, voter turn out certainly points to that. Also the repub certainly DID NOT win by enough to call it a mandate.

It was a sea of red and a tsunami and if anybody else thinks different they are not dealing with reality. All you have to do is watch the major news networks CNN Fox and MSNBC and even the BBC and you will see it was a landslide.

Yank politics will likely be interesting for sure but likely nasty as hell & the people left on the sidelines to watch the madness we are about to witness

I got my popcorn ready!!!

Congratulations on the beginning of a great American rejuvenation !

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Actually GW, I'm not an American, and to be honest, I don't think he's done too good at all but that said, I'm not too sure the republicans would be better, but these elections just go to show how displeased the people of the US are with the current government.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Sometimes arithmetic is not as straightforward as it seems to be. Helping 12 million undocumented people find jobs will help add up to 24 million ethnic votes, while could also anger and alienate 48 million job seeking local supporters. Executive vetoes, unilateral actions will earn acclaim from some, but could also, under current circumstances, disgust the majority and hurt the next presidential election.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Exactly. The problem is most Democrats can't see or are intentionally unaware that their polices are not working. Now their supporters are angry that the Republicans took over, even in areas that is usually NOT Republican friendly, that is a clear precise message being sent to Washington and since the Democrats didn't listen, they kicked them out and voted in the Republicans, can they handle Obama, can they meet their voters expectations? No one knows, but if they don't do a good job and lose this opportunity, then it's their fault, they need to get serious and do the job the people asked them to do and only time will tell, but to vilify them without giving them a chance is showing how partisan many on the left are and all the vitriol and name calling will NOT change the outcome of this election results. Personally, I do hope they can meet somewhere in the middle and make compromises, they need to reign this president in on his spending and other out of control policies. But America first and leave the partisan politics at home.

Iraq....Hillary voted to go!

LOL. And of course Bush wasn't going to do ANYTHING unless one Senator out of 100 voted for the plan. It's amazing how many straws the conservatives grasp at when it comes to defending their actions. Hillary voted "to go" because the Republican administration in office at the time GUARANTEED that Iraq was constructing weapons of mass destruction. Hillary's only failure then was believing the Republicans.

NolivingNov. 08, 2014 - 04:40AM JST So the Republicans want to repeal a law that was there idea for how to fix the health care "industry" back in the mid 90s. I'm curious as to what the new Republican plan is.

Compare to Democrats, the Republicans proposals includes tax breaks or credits to the uninsured to purchase coverage on the individuals and make it cheaper for those already with coverage. They also want to allow insurance companies to sell policies across state lines. Right now, insurance companies may not sell a policy in multiple states. Competition might reduce prices. Republicans also proposed changes in common law civil justice systems that would reduce litigation or damage regarding medical malpractice lawsuits that lead to frivolous claims and legal costs.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@sfjp330 In other words: crap doctors in the free clinic for the poor!!! I think the Republicans in congress need to be on the free clinic plan. With no option to use their millions for an alternative.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@scipantheist

Under Republican proposal, the tax breaks alone will save about 20 percent in health care cost for the average Americans. It will work similar to writing off interest on your home mortagage or property tax on your 1040.

As always, you are the voice of logic reason. This proposal would put less burden on the tax payer and REAL affordable healthcare, but the truth of the matter is, at the current rate there is no way we can afford to pay into this system the way it is current form, it just doesn't work and will never work the way it is structured. I think the Republicans and the president have a real good chance on making the necessary adjustments to give people the option and real affordable healthcare.

The subject of 15-20 million illegal immigrants has not been clearly addressed. Most use U.S. hospitals for their care without paying. They are draining the system. Not paying has become a normal procedure for illegals. If you live in any other country illegally, do you expect their goverment to take care of you? Maybe only in the U.S.

That is the heart of the problem. But the Democrats don't and have never addresed the issue about illegal immigration and the cost of it on the US tax payer. Who's going to cover the costs? It's all passed down to the middle class, but I don't blame the illegals, if I were an illegal alien, I would do the same, it's not their fault that we have a broken system and the president and the Dems are derilect in their silence and unwillingness to stop this tide.

Great! So we all agree that single-payer is the only way to clean up the turd-pile left by the free market. Sweet! Next topic!

bass

it was Obama and his policies that decimated him

You are correct about the first part. The public is not happy with Obama, but they generally support his policies. Over 60% of Americans believe that the ACA should be improved but not repealed, support raising the minimum wage to $10.10, support letting illegal immigrants stay in the US, support raising taxes on upper income earners, think that large corporations pay too little in taxes (recent polls by Pew, Gallup, Quinnipiac, Kaiser, CBS/NYT). And the public is overwhelmingly wary of sending American troops back into Iraq. (Although you have previously stated that you don't care what the American public thinks about this issue.)

Republicans won because of

1) An elderly white demographic that typically turns out in greater numbers for midterms 2) Poor 'optics' by the Obama administration 3) Conservative media's successful nurturing of the meme that 'Obama' and 'liberal' are dirty words

Did you notice that there was very little discussion of issues during this campaign, by either side? Republicans secretly know that if Obama's policies had been implemented by a Republican president, those policies would be considered a great success. Case in point: the ACA spawned from a Heritage Foundation idea. Democrats screwed up by not talking about the issues. They were bullied by the fringe right into thinking that the very mention of Obama and his policies would drive them out.

So now we have people like Joni Ernst, the Senator elect from Iowa, who presented almost nothing in the way of policy proposals during her campaign, except that she's a folksy vet who grew up castrating pigs and is now gonna 'make em squeal' in Washington.

As long as Americans allow their elected leaders to avoid focusing on realistic policies, they're going to get polemicists who end up doing nothing but dragging their country down the toilet.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Well put PlasticM!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Point blank Obama and his democratic policies do nothing but continue to hurt minorities his policies appeal to third world thinking Hispanics because they think simply everything is free. If you really want to know who the president is go look where he got his start in politics as a grass roots organizer. This organization is and was well connected to the 'GD's Gangster disciples who control all the drug trafficking in the city of Chicago the same city Obama came from. at his gang organization is ties to the Mexican drug cartel which use the GDs to distribute and sell drugs throughout Chicago the Hispanic population grew by leaps and bounds crime shot up its so bad the city is now called Chiraq. Today the Gang now uses its power to put people in office lol at the mayor of Chicago and look at his close ties to Obama it goes further I wish I could say more but the president is nothing but a gangster he runs the country like he did the organization in Chicago which is worse off after he left because his work did not good for the community of Altgeld Gardens it made it a war zone. As far as the president being so intent to go alone with out working with the republicans its because of his pack with the Mexican drug cartels and medicos corrupt government there is no difference in the deaths in Mexico and Chicago they are all tied to one organization which is now on American soil the drug cartels. In America we often ask is there any difference between the drug cartels and ISIS they behead the kidnap they kill but still the US don't consider them terrorist why only the man in the White House knows. Americans went to the polls and voted not because they like either party they was just fed up with one dictator the president acting alone to do as he please not following the countries constitution and putting in Supreme Court justices that will vote to keep the gang ties interest Americans voted because they are tied of seeing the way the country is being ran and where it's headed. For the first time MANY DEMOCRATS voted republican what Americans want is to be able to provide for their children but with all of the third world immigrants coming to the US breaking the laws and getting handouts at the expense of hardworking americans isn't fair. if the republicans can't change this around then this country is doomed because Hillary Clinton is no different than Obama no where in the world is a women in power respected on the national stage she quit Obama team to distance herself thinking stupid democrats will forget about what she has done. Obama wants Obama care but do you think his kids receive? Its a joke! Americans just want change and we don't care what party is in office just take care of your own country first and stop trying to feed the world and protect it when you have problems yourself.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Obamacsre may sound good if you are not participating in the program. Too many red tapes and I did not know insurance companies are not responsible. I had Senior Dimension, AARP, and now Humana. Suppose seniors who depend on meager Social Security paynnbt only to live. They might not have a computer to communicaate with officials. Medicines for them are not cheap for people who live on Social Security payment, People voted for GOPs so GOPs have to be careful. Seniors vote, too. Touch screen voting machines and so they are not hesitant to vote. Instead of Obamacsate, GOPcare to reduce redtape for seniors.
