The South's Gonna Rise Again!

down the gutter into the sewer

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Oh, please! This has more to do with the pervs and pedophiles trying to take advantage of this law. Has nothing to do with the South. This is a huge issue already in Canada and they're trying to resend the laws they have in place allowing transgenders to use the bath of their choice. Problem isn't with the transgenders directly, but this law is ridiculous. I could say, I feel like a woman and use the woman's restroom, any guy can take advantage of this. This was never an issue until the left decided to push this. We shouldn't even be having this discussion.

-5 ( +7 / -12 )

A male has the additional appendage. To risk young girls, many of who are not sexually active to see the male package is not fair to the girls or the girls parents. Gender confusion is a bunch of crap! You are what you were born with. No othe life form experiences gender reassignment.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

One by one, conservative political leaders thundered against it and President Barack Obama.

Nice. It makes it easier to spot the bigots. I'm betting that isn't lost on Obama.

While supporters say the measure is needed to protect women and children from sexual predators, the Justice Department and others argue the threat is practically nonexistent and the law discriminatory.

It exists exclusively in the minds of Republicans, just like voter fraud and the dangers of abortion. You can tell them over and over and over again that there are numerous studies backing all of this up (from both parties), and they will look you in the eye and completely ignore you. It's kind of like showing a birth certificate to a birther.

With the passage of the law, Schafer said she found herself “just having to decide do I break the law, or do I put myself in this highly uncomfortable or highly dangerous situation in the men’s restroom?”

I'm sorry that is happening to you. I'm sure you can figure something out, like maybe changing back into a man on the outside every time you take a piss away from home. I have no solution for you and you don't exist to Republicans, so...

4 ( +9 / -5 )

I understand, if you have the sex change operation and you no longer have your male appendage, by all means, I have NO problem with them then using the ladies restroom, but until that last important procedure, they are men and should use the men's toilet and again, I say that out of the concern that pedophiles and perverts would take serious advantage of this law. This is really opening up Pandora's box.

-2 ( +9 / -11 )

The interwebs are flushed with this story today.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well said bass. Just wait for the lawsuits to flow in. Oh, don't forget we are talking about boys and girls her. Not mature men and women.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Ladies restroom usually do not have urinary area,,? Just doored compartments. Men's area has urinary area and no. Two rooms. Sex changed people can use Women's no. Two room?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

20 years ago (not really that long ago) this nonsense would of got you laughed out of the room. cant believe they are pushing this ridiculous crap on schools. If I want to become a woman, thats my adult right but kids are confused who think they are a different gender.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Ladies restroom usually do not have urinary area,,? Just doored compartments. Men's area has urinary area and no. Two rooms. Sex changed people can use Women's no. Two room?

Where? Most places or countries don't.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

It's good to see that the Obama Administration is addressing the really really really important issues in this country. I usually approve of Obama's political tendencies, but this is ridiculous.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

A person with female genitalia (natural or trans) should be able to use the stalled private toliet in the ladies restroom. One without the operation must use the mans.

This is none of Obamas business really, but should be left to the states. I dont know where he erred off his adgenda, but pushing this kind of mess is why so many went for Trump

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Well I guess a pedophile is now stuck in the men's bathrooms with your sons instead of your daughters.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This will sew up the presidency for the republicans. Obama once again goes against the will of the people with this. Notice, he waited until months left to introduce this controversy.

What's next?

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

">No othe life form experiences gender reassignment.

What other life forms can perform surgery?"

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Hehe, it's almost funny, and very predictable, watching Republicans dig in on an issue when it's pointed out how backwards and asinine their views are on these issues that their party brings up in order to rile up the people, so that they will forget just how broken their party is.

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

It's not my party stranger and this is not a step forward for humaity. Please enlighten how asinine my views are.

@at SenseNotSoCommon.....exactly my point.gender reassignment is not natural and not an issue.

This is children we are talking about. Children!

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

@bass4: isn't this USA story? Not about other country. Ladies toilet area do not have men's urinary area.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Goodness, all this controversy over bathrooms. Why are transgender issues still even issues in the supposedly leader of the free world?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

There is no federal statute on the books banning discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. This decree by an administration trying to bully states in to doing what Obama wants by making threats to withold federal funds when no laws exist giving them the authority to do it. . . .

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Hehe, it's almost funny, and very predictable, watching Republicans dig in on an issue when it's pointed out how backwards and asinine their views are on these issues that their party brings up in order to rile up the people, so that they will forget just how broken their party is.

How so? When ANY man can use a woman's restroom at ANY given time for whatever reason? GW can you verify if a guy uses the women's restroom he is in fact, what he says he is? How can you prove it? Canada is already seeing a backlash in this stupid law.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Obama from Chicago has more concern with transsexuals then he does for the residents in certain areas in Chicago. Nearly 200 people shot last weekend due to gang violence. The very democratic Chicago with very strict gun laws. And the prez throws this transgender BS out there!

Priorities president Obama, priorities.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Obama from Chicago has more concern with transsexuals then he does for the residents in certain areas in Chicago. Nearly 200 people shot last weekend due to gang violence.

Thank you MarkG. He should be issuing "directives" to the Black communities first.

This decree by an administration trying to bully states in to doing what Obama wants by making threats to withold federal funds when no laws exist giving them the authority to do it.

Nuther good point. Obama's "directives" must be sending unparalleled shockwaves in US public schools. But hey, don't blame me . . . I didn't vote for "change."

I liked it the old way. Men's room & a Lady's room. Now what put a "P" (for penis) one one door & "V" (for vagina) on the other?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@bass4: I goofed. New,,I don't think a child does not get gender change surgery. boy should use boys' bathroom. And girls use girls bathroom. Obama should not withhold any money.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I think trans should use their original sex toilets on Mon, Tues and Thurs for n1, for n2 make it wed, fri and sat, their new sex one for n1 on Wed, Sat and Sun and for n2 say Mon, Tues and Thurs.

That was easy.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Yes Bass, that's exactly what we're looking for. We're also looking go get the toilets all put in a circle with no doors, so that every man who will now have the absolute right to use the women's toilet will be able to directly see exactly what every woman is doing.

Seriously, it's amazing how libs don't see that this is an opener for possible abuse to occur. Canada saw it, but then again, Democrats have been weak when it comes to punishing pedophiles and other predators. I'm not surprised.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@bass4: I goofed. New,,I don't think a child does not get gender change surgery.

They try to give kids who are identified as being transgendered hormone treatment before they hit puberty.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Seriously, it's amazing how libs don't see that this is an opener for possible abuse to occur.

Any pedophile who is homosexual can walk into a bathroom and do the exact same thing. It's, in your words, 'an opener for possible abuse to occur'. For that matter, having men and women mixing in public is, in your words 'an opener for possible abuse to occur'. Yet I haven't seen anyone freaking out and saying homosexuals should not be able to use the bathroom, nor are you saying that women and men should be separated in public.

There are lots of 'openers' for 'possible abuse' to occur. Why don't we focus on one that is an actual real-life problem, rather than on a squirrel meant to distract from the failings of the Republican party.

And finally, it wouldn't be that hard to create a clause that says anyone wishing to use the bathroom opposite to their current sexual organs must first have a note from a doctor certifying them as transgendered (or whatever the term is for someone pre-op).

But we all know thinking logically on this matter isn't as sensational, and doesn't distract as much from the real topics at hand, so let's just consider freaking out irrationally about an issue that appears to be pretty much non-existent.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Strangerland MAY. 14, 2016 - 01:16PM JST Any pedophile who is homosexual can walk into a bathroom and do the exact same thing. It's, in your words, 'an opener for possible abuse to occur'.

Your getting into a different territory. How frequent is this occurrence in the last two decades? Probably is a rare occurrence. I doubt it will increase. Is this from your experience? What is your stats on this subject?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Your getting into a different territory.

Not really. We're talking about the potential for someone to walk into a bathroom and abuse a child. The Republicans are saying that a heterosexual will be able to walk in to a bathroom and abuse a child of the opposite sex. I'm pointing out that we already have a situation where a homosexual could do the same thing. It's a point of example.

How frequent is this occurrence in the last two decades? Probably is a rare occurrence. I doubt it will increase.

I agree. Same as with incidents involving transgendered - it appears to be a rare occurrence, as whenever you ask the Republicans to give examples of incidents, they can't.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Not one good defense argument supporting children gender confusion. Children are confused in many issues already leaving aside yet another acceptable open door choice on ones gender. Very few kids are clear thinking and level headed at puberty.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Obama from Chicago has more concern with transsexuals then he does for the residents in certain areas in Chicago. Nearly 200 people shot last weekend due to gang violence.

Advocating gun control? Yes, please.

The very democratic Chicago with very strict gun laws.

And despite their razor wire borders, too!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Damn those liberals and their tolerance for other human beings.

Helping and being tolerant is one thing, but being naive and allowing Political correctness to run amok is something entirely different.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Texas’ lieutenant governor said the state is prepared to forfeit billions rather than let the Obama administration dictate restroom policy for its 5.2 million students.

Oh, so the Texas lieutenant governor will take it upon himself to do the dictating. Is this still the 21st century?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Backward-ass Republican fundies keeping it real....

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Still no good argument why this is a good idea here. Only insults and diversion from the left, no intelligent debate.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

If you are a white male and would like to receive preference in hiring and federal contracting, go ahead and "self identify" as a black female and demand your preference!

Also, to avoid lawsuits about discriminating against Transgendered Men/Women, Planned Parenthood should offer abortions to men who think they are women.

With democrats you must bow to the absurd, anything to keep people's minds off his $20 Trillion debt.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Mark, go back to the story and read about the student who is now effectively shut off from using the bathrooms in the school. How would you like that to be handled?

You have people whose outward appearance is for one gender. It's going to be insane to have someone who looks like a woman having to use the men's restroom. We will face that situation exponentially more than your made up scenario of a man's man just hanging out in the women's room and just staring at kids and claiming he has the right to do it because there is no law against it. And at the end of the day, won't the pedophile you are so afraid of just use the men's restrooms with little boys?

You'd save more kids by banning them from being alone with priests, but I doubt the GOP will go there.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Backward-ass Republican fundies keeping it real....

Woe-woe-woe . . ."keep it real??"

I beg 2 differ Madverts. The sleazy, unsound, "backward-ass" parasites wanting to use the wrong restroom is the whole taboo here.

How backwards is it really?(Actually not at all) Men use the men's room & gals use the gal's room. Will a tranny buy a menstrual pads too?? . . . . even though it's not menstrurating?? OHH -the outrage-

This is why when god created adam & eve, adam is a man. Eve is a woman.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

100 years from now there gonna need a large building just to have enough different bathrooms. Can't wait to use bathrooms for bald people or oversized PP's so everyone else doesn't get their feelings hurt.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

<the measure is needed to protect women and children from sexual predators

It would be good if they worked on this on a daily basis, in all areas where the vulnerable are attacked, mistreated, taken advantage of, and have their health and safety threatened.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@FizzBit

100 years from now they will wonder how we ever survived liberalism.

"Seattle Parks and Recreation is facing a first-of-a-kind challenge to gender bathroom rules. A man undressed in a women's locker room, citing a new state rule that allows people to choose a bathroom based on gender identity.

It was a busy time at Evans Pool around 5:30pm Monday February 8. The pool was open for lap swim. According to Seattle Parks and Recreation, a man wearing board shorts entered the women's locker room and took off his shirt. Women alerted staff, who told the man to leave, but he said "the law has changed and I have a right to be here.""

The case of Christopher "Jessica" Hambrook.

Hambrook, 37, pleaded guilty in February 2013 to two counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal harassment involving two women — a deaf and homeless Quebec woman and a Toronto survivor of domestic violence — while he was living at a Dundas St. W. shelter and the Fred Victor women’s shelter in January and February 2012.

He claimed to be transgender and was thus granted access to a women's shelter.

@JAPAN T: how do you collect these links? sound you stayed very long tome in Japan and got interested in home life and came back to cold area of west coast. Watch Mariners' games.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@JAPAN T

Great and valid points, but the left will always make excuses for claiming those aren't enough reasons to NOT push this law through. They are always right and everyone else is wrong. We have a president who thinks just exactly that right now. This crazy law with all its supposedly good intentions is a gateway for perverts and sexual offenders to take full advantage of women, pure and simple and next they want to do the same in some schools in Texas where transgenders are allowed to shower of their choosing or who they identify with gender wise.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Obama is President. He is not Secretary of Gender Education.

Hope Tex has enough oil. Income. I believe it has no state income tax now.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Japan T, of all of your stories, only one involves a man going to a restroom because of the law, and obviously he's just doing it to make a point. Complete waste of time.

The very real situation is that you're going to have a person who you can't tell is a man underneath having to go into the men's restroom or vice versa. What do you propose we do in those situations? Republicans can continue to ignore it but it doesn't mean it won't exist.

My guess is they will chalk it up to acceptable harassment/punishment because of the "unnatural" ways of transgenders. Let's not forget that this is the same party who wants to be able to deny basic goods and services to people if they learn they are gay.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

A widely accepted estimate of the number of transgender Americans is around 700,000. That's a little over .2 percent of the general population. One researcher stated that in an average American high school with a student body of 2000 one could expect to find between 2 and 4 students who were transgender. Most studies report an estimated 4 percent of the total US population as being members of the LGBT community. While this segment of the population faces many challenges in their daily lives they also have the support and acceptance of the majority of the American people. But it should be noted that both tolerance and intolerance are rooted in culture and in the US culture is very often a regional phenomenon, people see things differently in different parts of the country. So far, there are a growing number of jurisdictions that have taken measures to address this issue and many, like Seattle, have done so in a sensible and sensitive manner. Others, like North Carolina, have gone in another direction. But all in all, the trend in the US is towards less gender identity bias.

Obama should let the States work it out. What is cool for someone in Hawaii may not be for someone in Mississippi. Ramming a cultural ideology down peoples throats with the threat of withholding Federal education monies smells like extortion to a lot of people and has the real potential for creating an unfortunate backlash. Unfortunately the people that are at the greatest risk of feeling that backlash are the very people that Obama says he is trying to help.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Yes, because prior to this, there were no incidents of men going into women's bathrooms or locker rooms, or secretly filming women. And children and teens have always been perfectly well-protected from predators - no abusers or rapists given positions of authority at schools and colleges, no cover-ups. No politicians downplaying or even justifying rape. Oh no, none of that.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Japan T does a quick google, and posts approximately 10 links (some of them duplicates about the same story) of cases dating back at least 13 years, and not all about cases in the US.

What more proof do we need? Gee...

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

I wonder if the rednecks who are freaking out about transgendered using the 'wrong' toilets have realized that if they are successful, they are going to be sharing the toilet with women sometimes. But on the other hand, maybe that's what they're secretly hoping.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Japan T does a quick google, and posts approximately 10 links (some of them duplicates about the same story) of cases dating back at least 13 years, and not all about cases in the US.

Typical liberal excuse, just because it's 13 years or 50 years, the potential of something happening still persists and is ever present and the majority of people don't want to take chances, the majority of women DON'T want to shower with men because they feel like women for whatever reason, pure and simple.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Major US retailer, Target, is suffering loss in sales recently due to embracing the transgender restroom policy in their store. The shoppers do NOT want shop in a store where trannies can go into whichever restroom they "associate" with.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

So what are you doing about the potential for abuse by pedophiles who are homosexuals? How are you planning on restricting their bathroom privileges?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Typical liberal excuse

I don't think you know what liberal means. What you call liberal, I call logic. How does Japan T's post - containing links to articles s/he assuredly did not read before posting - have anything to do with supporting people's argument that this new law will increase misuse of the facilities in order to sexually harass and abuse people?

Some actual intelligent discourse to support this 'evidence' would be nice, not a cut'n'paste which, let's face it, any fool can do.

Also, the whole "People will abuse this law, so we shouldn't have this law" argument is very weak.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

So what are you doing about the potential for abuse by pedophiles who are homosexuals?

(LoL) . . . . . If they look like Jerry Sandusky, deny them access to the restrroom. They can pee around the corner behind the dumpster.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@SuperLib

Oh, and they will stop now because they are now ALLOWED to enter any restroom of their choosing?

People who enter spaces of the opposite gender when illegal to so will definitely do so when legal to do so. Many more who would not take the risk when illegal now have the green light to do so.

Men have been dressing as women to gain access to women only spaces for very long time.

@Maria. Yes, If I can do a quick Google search, so can anyone else. Statements were made that not a "single" case can be found. They can be easily found. Yes, some are from years ago, meaning it ain't a new phenomenon. And yes, they are from around the world, men sneaking it to women only spaces to watch women when they are in various states of undress is a part of the human condition. Do you suppose that America is exempt from human nature?

@Strangerland

"So what are you doing about the potential for abuse by pedophiles who are homosexuals? How are you planning on restricting their bathroom privileges?"

Different subject, stay on topic, please.

To all, the federal government does not have the legal authority to act in this area in the first place.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

To all, the federal government does not have the legal authority to act in this area in the first place.

Agree with Japan T. But obama is delusional and tyrannical . . . . especially when he's clutching his executive order signing ink-pen.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Strangerland

These bathroom laws are a response to court cases, especially one in California where a high school girl took her school district to court because she did not want to have to share the shower room with male students. The court decided that the transgender boy's rights trumped her rights to privacy. Then came these laws.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

These bathroom laws are a response to court cases, especially one in California where a high school girl took her school district to court because she did not want to have to share the shower room with male students.

So she is ok with sharing the shower with lesbians?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Probably not, but there are a hell of a lot more men in the world who want to have sex with women than there are women who want to have sex with women.

Your argument is that because keeping the neutral genders separated does not protect 100% against sexual predators, that laws keeping them separated to protect as much as we can should be allowed.

Foolish.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Your argument is that because keeping the neutral genders separated does not protect 100% against sexual predators, that laws keeping them separated to protect as much as we can should be allowed.

No, my argument is that reacting irrationally to an issue that has not been and issue and is made up in the minds of the Republicans in order to distract from the failures of their party, thereby restricting the right to use the toilet to other human beings, is socially irresponsible, and quite disgusting.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@Strangerland

No sir, these laws are in response to liberal school districts and courts forcing teenage girls to shower with boys and men. It was not an issue until then.

Your argument is actually far more ludicrous than I first stated.

Because she may feel uncomfortable showering with a lesbian, it is right to FORCE her to shower with men.

Liberal logic never ceases to amaze!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Because she may feel uncomfortable showering with a lesbian, it is right to FORCE her to shower with men.

Nope. Only with women. Some of those women were born in men's bodies.

Sorry you are having troubles stepping into the new world. But if you can't keep up, you get left behind.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

No sir, the courts have decided that girls must shower with men. That is what the courts have decided and that is what the laws you disagree with are trying to protect from.

The NC law says that state employees must use the facilities for the gender on their birth certificate. However, as a true transgendered person can have the gender on their birth certificate changed to match their post op gender, what is your beef?

You are still arguing, wittingly or unwittingly, that it is right to force teenage females to shower with boys and men.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

You are still arguing, wittingly or unwittingly, that it is right to force teenage females to shower with boys and men.

Nope. Only with other girls.

Welcome to the present.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

You are not answering the question. The state laws you are opposed to do not prevent girls as you define them from showering with girls. So what is your problem with these state laws?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

My problem is the discrimination.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

There is discrimination with these state laws, none whatsoever. No one before has ever been able to choose which restroom or shower room to use. Recent court cases have created this "right" and given it precedence over women's right to privacy, and even to men's right to privacy.

The state laws are to protect women and men from being discriminated against for not being transsexual.

Our opinions, yours and mine, do not matter. You can argue that you support X but X is not what the C outports have decided nor is X what the new state laws are protecting against.

Your are on the wrong field.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

First, I made a typo in my first sentence in my last post above. It should read. "There is NO discrimination with these state laws,..."

@FizzBit.

I do get that impression.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

HA!

Why thankyee.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Wow JapanT. I didn't think anyone could post consecutive comments. You must be special, or the Mods are trying to control the message. FU Mods

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In children's schools, the boys who have pens should go to boys restroom. Shouldn't assume all girls are familiar about transgender.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

For the life of me, I still can't fathom why some people are making such an issue out of this. I mean, where does all this talk about sexual predators come from?

Transgenderism is when a person does not identify with the gender listed on their birth certificate. It is all about how a person identifies themselves in regards to gender and not about who they are sexually attracted to. Who you are attracted to sexually is your sexual orientation, and the rates of different orientations within the transgender population are consistent with the rates in the cisgender population. Just because someone is transgender does not make them any more likely to display deviant sexual behavior and consequently they are no more likely to be sexual predators.

But the main part that I don't get is how is all of this supposed to be enforced. Are all students going to be issued Federal gender identification cards? Are they going to be required to carry their birth certificates at all times? And who is going to do the genital inspection to verify compliance.

This whole thing is stupid.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Nice. It makes it easier to spot the bigots. I'm betting that isn't lost on Obama.

This is about Biology, not bigotry. I suppose there never was a time when "Progressives" did not pervert science to use as a cudgel for achieving their ideological goals going all the way back to the sterilization and abortion push in the early 1900's to get rid of blacks, the disabled, and the poor. Anyway, it wasn't that long ago that Obama was the bigot - at least when he was first elected. He was empathetic that homosexuals should not marry but it didn't seem to stop a whole lot of the same people screaming "bigot" today from supporting him then. The latest transgender inspired madness has become some sort of game to see whether or not a person can keep up with the latest Orwellian newspeak in order to remain in the good graces of the State.

“I applaud the Obama administration for establishing policies that will better provide all our children an opportunity to thrive,” Inslee said.

Males and females in the shower - might as well just cut the pretense and do away with sex specific bathrooms, locker rooms and showers all together. Isn't that the next fake "civil rights" fight the Left will wage - eliminating "separate but equal" places anywhere in America's schools? Or perhaps it's ending the age of consent discrimination, or the number of people that can join in marriage? There is always another civil rights battle to wage. After all, if a Lefty cannot force utopia on an imperfect world what else is there to live for?

The very real situation is that you're going to have a person who you can't tell is a man underneath having to go into the men's restroom or vice versa.

But that isn't the situation that anyone is talking about now is it? There are actually no other specifics from Obama other than a that a person who identifies as one sex can use the bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers of the other - period. There is no legal test to ascertain whether a male is a female or vice versa other than the person's word. It isn't even whether or not the person is dressed specific to the facilities they wish to use. So presumably there will be people that will want to use the other sex's bathroom even when they are not in drag.

I feel truly sorry for folks that are biologically male or female and feel in their minds that they are the other sex. Plenty of people struggle with all kinds of psychological problems. But should 99.9% of the people that do not have this psychological condition be burdened with accommodating the minuscule number of folks that do? Of course not. It's ridiculous even to make this into a federal issue to begin with. The Left has truly lost their minds.

What really deserves our compassion are the people that have no determinate sex - a variation other than the usual XX or XY chromosomes. That is the only issue that matters here. Reasonable accommodations should be made for them and I have never heard of any person in this situation that has been denied the right to choose which facilities they wish to use.

@Toshiko

Yet that is exactly what is wrong to the people who are behind this, young children do not know about transgender. They want children exposed to it as young as possible and forced to accept it as natural and normal. Some courts have concurred and high school girls are being forced to shower with boys who identify as female but in the shower, amazing though it may be to some, appear as the boys who do not identify as female.

It is this that the state laws were written to protect against.

To answer your earlier question, I do not live in the States nor watch Mariner's games, nor TV at all. I learned quite some time ago that there is a lot that goes on in the States that gets plenty of news coverage locally but zero mention in the national and international news. I'll leave it to the individual readers to ponder the implications of that.

@Maria

The claims made by your side are false and all you can do is fault my editing? I'll take a hit for poor editing over statements that are opposite of facts any day.

There are no laws in any of the 50 United States that force little girls and boys to take a shower together.

You seem to be basing your whole position on something that Ted Cruz said while on the campaign trail. And Ted Cruz's statement was proven to wrong. It just isn't the case.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Kuya 808

You are absolutely correct, there are no laws forcing high school students of the opposite sexes to share showers. HOWEVER, courts have recently held that various sections of various laws provide for this and courts are forcing teenage girls to shower with boys if the boy indentifies as a girl.

There are no laws in any of the 50 United States that force little girls and boys to take a shower together.

True, there are no "laws" that do this. However there is a Obama edict which threatens the funding for any and every school district in the nation should they refuse to allow girls and boys to shower together if one or the other makes a claim that they are mentally different from their biological sex. Obama makes no regulation that a person must be anything other that whom they say they are. That's just crazy. Political correctness and prog ideology is leading to it's logical outcome - loony and harmful public policy.

@ Japan T

All that any court has determined is that discrimination based on gender is a violation of Title IX. Title IX is a Federal Law which requires gender equality in all educational programs that receives federal funding. The original intent was to give girls and women an equal opportunity to engage in all available educational programs and activities, same as the boys. I think most people are aware of it because of its effect on woman’s sport programs in High School and College. But although most of the focus has been on the girls and women Title IX is not gender specific. It applies to all students and the current administration in Washington has interpreted that to include transgender students as well.

Let's look at one of the cases that has been in the news lately. A transgender student in Illinois was born as a boy but identified as a girl from a young age, she changed her name to a girl's name (by which she is referred to by school staff and officials), is undergoing hormonal treatments, plays on a girls sport team at school and has been issued a US Passport as a female. This transgender girl is not a boy, not in form, not in affectation and not in the eyes of the US Government. Although her local school district identifies her as a girl they attempted to make reasonable accommodations taking into consideration the feelings and rights of all the students. Their solution was a private changing area for the girl and from all reports the girl was okay with that. The Illinois chapter of the ACLU was not, and they filed a complaint. The Obama administration responded with the latest dictate. Which in reality has only served to make this girl's life more uncomfortable.

By the Obama administration taking such a dictatorial stance they have invited the kind of push-back that we see in North Carolina. Just for a moment picture the girl in the Illinois case being forced to disrobe and shower with the boys. Would you be okay with that?

@Wolfpack

Actually, Obama's dictate only threatens Title IX funding but it's a threat, none the less. I feel that local school districts, working with their local communities, are in a much better position to arrive at what would be the most reasonable accommodation for their specific situation. This issue has been ongoing for quite a while for the most part reasonable accommodations have been found. The Feds should just step back and let society engineer its own solutions.

I don't think H will keep this new law. Girls are now opposing new law. Boys might love this law, especially non transgender boys telling he forgot his id.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Kuya How is that different from what I said? They are using a law with the purpose you stated which specifically allows separate changing, showering and toilet facilities based upon sex, not gender, to force girls to shower with biological males. Here it is in print from a Chicago paper. Daily Herald

updated: 11/3/2015 4:56 AM

Feds find Dist. 211 transgender policy discriminatory Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 is violating the anti-discriminatory Title IX law by denying a transgender student who identifies as female unrestricted access to a girls' locker room, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights ruled Monday.

Now this one is not from the court but might as well be. Please note the "unrestricted access to a girl's locker room".

Yes, the ACLU's involvement in this case probably made this person's life a lot more difficult, which leads me to believe it ain't about the individual but about the agenda the ACLU is pushing, which is to allow biological males 'unrestricted access to female locker rooms'. Actually, their agenda is far worse that even that but that is not the scope of this discussion.

This administration's goal, as it has stated, is to allow biological males unrestricted access to to female restrooms, locker rooms and showers based solely upon which sex the say they identify with.

Title IX does not mandate that transgendered persons be allowed to use the facilities of their choice. "According to the law, schools “may provide separate toilet, locker room, and shower facilities on the basis of sex.” In other words, under Title IX, a school can designate certain facilities for biological males and other facilities for biological females. That isn’t discrimination; it’s common sense. "

Further, in regards to prison inmates, a court ruled thus: “shielding one’s unclothed figure from the view of strangers, particularly strangers of the opposite sex, is impelled by elementary self-respect and personal dignity.”

But not if they are children or teenagers?

Now, let's talk about your assertion that Cruz lied about men having access to changing rooms and showers with young girls present. It has already happened. In one case in California, a 45 yo male college student who dresses as a women uses the female sauna and other facilities at their college, sitting spread legged, exposing the male genitals to all who pass by.

Many colleges, mine included, held various children's classes such as swim lessons. Where do you think the little boys and girls change and shower? Does the school have separate facilities by age, do you suppose? No, they do not. Little girls change and with their mommies and little boys with their daddies. And right now, fearing lawsuits a/o loss of federal funding, there are facilities in the US allowing grown men to change in the women's locker room along side young girls.

Despite my calling out this administration's intent, the intent of those behind this is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the result. And the result is as Senator Cruz stated, grown men are now allowed to change and shower with young girls.

Don't let your political loyalties cloud your vision and judgement. Just because the "other guy says it" doesn't mean it is not true. A very little research shows that not only are his concerns shared by many but they are also valid.

Your comment about making the student in Palestine, Illinois shower with the boys really puzzles me. Because the one student, with a male body, would feel uncomfortable showering with others with male bodies we should make all those with female bodies uncomfortable by allowing a student with a male body to shower with them.

And that is what this is about. The school made accommodations but the one student was not happy and wants unrestricted access to the girl's locker room.

These ardent "liberals" and "progressives" so identify with their ideology that it's like a religion to them. There's no limit - if an issue or idea falls under the "liberal" label then it's seized upon and supported to the hilt, even when it's insane. All acceptance and "compassion", zero wisdom.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

It is all about how a person identifies themselves in regards to gender and not about who they are sexually attracted to.

Yeah, we know. And Caitlyn Jenner is a disgusting looking thing. I'd flip if she walked into either restroom: Men or Women.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I respect women too much and would hinder allowing a man into the ladies room. It is just wrong to invade woman's privacy. Woman have a monthly condition and they prefer remaining discrete during those times. No perv or woman wanna be needs to enter a ladies room.

Heh. There are crickets chirping from the White House & obama administration.

One of Pope Francis' top lieutenants remarked, " should not a biological man use man's bathroom?", "it's as simple as that."

Why aren't these liberal posters slamming these comments coming from the Vatican? I thought libs like the pope?

I suppose the feds are getting involved because of Obama`s stance on discrimination??? Where do you draw the line?

Is this the most important issue facing the citizens of the US?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Superlib, Strangerland, Kuya 808, Maria and all.

This did not start with N. Carolina passing a law compelling State employees to use restrooms, locker rooms and etc that correspond to their birth sex. It started earlier.

Here are some more details of one of the reports I linked to earlier.

ABC

Nov. 04, 2012

"The decision to allow a transgender 45-year-old college student who identifies as a women but has male genitalia to use the woman's locker room has raised a fracas among parents and faith-based organizations, who say children as young as six years old use the locker room.

The locker room at Evergreen College in Olympia, Wash., is shared with the Capital High School swim club and a children's swim academy, along with students at Evergreen.

"The college has to follow State Law," Evergreen spokesman Jason Wettstein told ABC News affiliate, KOMO. "The college can not discriminate based based on the basis of gender identity. Gender identity is one of the protected things in discrimination in this state."

..."that the student has exposed her male genitalia,"...

Digging a bit furher, one who wishes to be as informed as possible can learn not only the name of the person at the center of this, but also that they identify as a "transgender lesbian".

SuperLib, your statement that this exists only in the ninds of republicans is false. Perhaps, only in the minds of republicans is this a problem, but it does exist it the real world. Am I a bigot for supporting efforts to stop this?

Strangerland, Am I being discriminatory by saying 45 y/o men should not be allowed to share shower rooms etc with woman, period?

Maria, is ..."that the student has exposed her male genitalia,"... logical to you?

Kuya808, notice the reference to a state law allowing a 45 y/o transgender lesbian to shower with little girls. So, your statement, which I let pass earlier as I was focusing on the Feds, that there are no state laws forcing little girls to shower with men is false. Although I never heard Ted Cruz make such a statement, how is his statement, if he indeed made it, wrong? Additionally, California has a similar law that went into effecr Jan. 01/2014.

If I can do a "quick google search", so can you. Why do you not check the veracity of statements of public figures and news stories that are important to you?

Why have we not heard from you in a while?

Liberals do not like to debate in the arena of ideas as they know their ideas to be counter to the ideas held by the majority. Instead, they rely on liberal judges to rewrite law, liberal gov. agencies to write regulations, and dubious parlimentary tactics to force their agenda upon the disapproving majority while they call those who oppose them names such as "bigot" and threaten bad press to stifle open debate and all other opposition.

@retiree

"Is this the most important issue facing the citizens of the US?"

This is a very good question. There are many seemingly bigger issues facing the US. However, if a parent can not protect their little girl from 'grown women with male genitalia' from showering with them, little else really matters.
