Since the 2nd world war the US has;

Attempted to overthrow more than 50 governments, most of them democratically-elected.

Attempted to suppress a populist or national movement in 20 countries.

Grossly interfered in democratic elections in at least 30 countries.

Dropped bombs on the people of more than 30 countries.

Attempted to assassinate more than 50 foreign leaders.

And they have the gall to critisize others, disgusting.

Putin is the new Stalin, anyone who does not recognize this isn't paying attention to his politcal track record so far. Putin is bad news for long term economic development, for any hope of liberty in Russia and for the security of neighboring nations.

In many ways the only difference between the Soviets and Putin, is the oppulence of the new wealthy class. For the poor, things are far worst than before and unlikely to improve. At least the Soviets tried to care for the poor.

How can there be a fair election when all of the viable candidates are in jail? The Russians had the choice between Putin and joke candidates. It would be like if President Obama jailed the Republican candidates and left only the margin candidates nobody wants.

grammefriday: Its got nothing to do with the US

When you are at a website that gets it's news from US sources, it will always have something to do with the US whether it be a reaction or a comment or something else. It's a good system for business. No matter what the story is, the US angle is always included. Then people can come here and ignore the story itself and talk about the US, usually with the standard cut and paste comments.

Just look at the comments above. More than half of them ignore the situation in Russia, yet people still feel like they are contributing to a discussion about Russian politics. See how it works? ;)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Grammefriday. Russia is a real concern to any country. It is an economic, resource, political and social player on the world stage. To suggest that what happens in russia is of no concern to the US is like saying that the sun going dark is of no concern to humanity.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Wakarimasen. And what exactly is "dumb" about questioning a corrupt election? Do you approve of people rigging elections? Or do you just dislike anything the US does or says?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I don't get the anti-American sentiment here.

From all the complaints about rigging from people at the scene, urging an investigation just makes sense, if a wiorthless gesture in Putin's kingdom.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Wow. I commented on just about every thread involving Russia and Putin over the last few weeks and with the exception of YuriOtani and a small handful of others the threads were largely ignored. Suddenly "US" gets added to the headline and we now have more posts than all of the other previous Russian threads combined.

And a vast majority of the posters still refuse to give any opinion about the actual elections, as if they can look past corrupt leaders and rigged elections...but comments from the US make them take a stand! heh.

Oh, the gluttony of the West. Real tragedy gets ignored in favor of cut and paste criticism for a brief moment of satisfaction. If future articles go back to focusing on Russia only then about 80% of the people here now won't even bother to post. If it's not a springboard to attack the US then it's a useless event.

You're kidding, right? After Bush Jr. was allowed to steal the Whitehouse from Al Gore, America has the brass balls to question Putin's victory? Shameful....

0 ( +11 / -11 )

The problem was that no legit opposition candidates were even on the ballot.

So, because you don't agree with communism, their candidates aren't "legit"? Not very democratic....

0 ( +4 / -4 )

So many don't like what the US is saying. Great. How do you personally feel about Putin and democracy in Russia?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It is not like he took a land slide. He only got 64%. Real cheaters like in South America and the middle east and well Africa and most of Asia get 99%/

"U.S. urges probe into Putin's victory "

Will Russia urge a probe into a Mitt Romney victory ?

No, because it's never going to happen, lol. :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@YuriOtani you are so right... except this time Obama doesn't even need to jail the main candidates they are doing an excellent job of marginalizing themselves...

The U.S would be wise to improve it's relationship with Russia. Our allience with Japan is and will be our greatest error. At the moment of truth, Japan will turn on us and ally herself with whoever she thinks is more powerful. Even if that means siding with North Korea.

Are you serious? America's alliance with a peaceful, pacifistic, democratic country is an 'error'? Look at Japan's history post WW2 and then Russia's. Actually, look at America's and it's self-proclaimed role as 'world policeman'. You think Russia won't pursue its own interests at the expense of other countries? A country which isn't even a proper democracy, as we can see from the sham voting? Ok, throw away your alliance with Japan and build closer ties with a country which threatened (explicity and implicity) to destroy the planet with its nuclear weapons for over 50 years. Japan is not perfect, no, it's refusal to face up to its war time past is awful, but as mercurial as it can be, it's a much, much more reliable ally than Russia.

Yep, the moral righteousness from the 'Land Of The Free' is really something to behold.

"the campaign had been massively tilted in favor of Putin"

I liked the spoof of the election by Putin opponents showing Putin charging out of the starting blocks before anyone else, shooting any opponents within range, then having the goal moved to make it even easier for him to win the race.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The EU also criticized these Potemkin elections. But nobody listens to the EU.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4172600/Monitors-Putin-poll-win-was-rigged.html

"But monitors from the Organisation for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) echoed opposition complaints that the election was not fair and skewed in his favour.

"Vote monitor Tonino Picula said: “The point of elections is that the outcome should be uncertain. This was not the case in Russia."

“According to our assessment, these elections were unfair.”

"The OSCE monitors said Putin was given a clear advantage over his rivals in the media and claimed state resources were used to help him extend a lead."

Nuff said. I won't even go into the depredations Europe has gotten up to over the centuries, the misery they inflicted upon the world, Africa and South America in particular. I'll let oginome list those....

All of you need to understand, Russia does things a little differently, they follow the beat of their own drum. Remember The Soviet Union collapsed only 21 years ago and it will take time to establish more, democratic politics. We must never be fooled, Russian democracy will not be like American democracy. They will choose their own path, and in a country as enormous and ethnically diverse as Russia, which includes the largest muslim populations outside the Middle East, there will be challenges to reaching a smooth democratic style. In order to transform there must be a conducive economic and social environment where the whole population benefits from reforms and educates itself on the working politiks of the country, and not "educated" by outside intereference. All this must be achieved without the hassle and subvertive policies of the West, and that meddling is what the Russian power elite are careful to prevent. The West looks at Russia as a gold mine waiting to be raped of her resources, and people such as Putin are not going for it. That is the real difference here, Russia will never be anybody's lapdog, no matter how much the US and Europe try to swing it into their sphere of influence. The people who really know about geopolitiks, the government elite in Russia will never let it happen. We cannot forget that Russia has fought wars throughout her history and has a long tradition in higher learning, the arts, and technological achievement, and is a proud country. Do you really want to mess with the Bear? Not even the US does it directly. So let them have their elections and try to have a friendly relationship with them because after the US, they are the other superpowe and the only country on earth who can put the lights out in the US for good. They provide the balance in the force.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why do you keep saying 'Europe', it's a bit disingenous to compare one country to an entire continent.

Because, as I pointed out, the EU also condemns the recent election in Russia. In fact, they do so in far more detail than the US does.

Compare counties with countries

I'll let you tell me which county I should begin with ...

.

Educate yourself.

he then says

The US has inflicted and continues to inflict suffering upon the world,

So does Russia, which killed 60 to 70 million of its own citizens. And Putin is a product of that system.

to YuriOtani

How can there be a fair election when all of the viable candidates are in jail?

Sorry what are you talking about ?

The Russians had the choice between Putin and joke candidates.

Sorry you are not from Russia - I ignore Japanese political system - it's not my business

It would be like if President Obama jailed the Republican candidates and left only the margin candidates nobody wants.

Sorry- Democrats and Republicans - all the same - puppet show of financial oligarchy

toLieberman2012

So does Russia, which killed 60 to 70 million of its own citizens. And Putin is a product of that system.

No the exact figure 200 million

or may be 300 I don't know.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is Mr Obama very 'jealous' of Mr Putin's leadership, the former one has no leadership at all and well known defeated in two wars?

Wars which were instigated by a Republican administration long before he came into office. Those war defeats rest with Bush and his cronies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sergei Udaltsov, Ilya Yashin, ikhail Khodorkovsky and more. The chief opposition party has been banned. Of course the Putin won, the only other candidates were the communists and minor parties.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I think this election was a sham, but it is none of our business, so.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

to YuriOtani

Sergei Udaltsov, Ilya Yashin,

Sorry they are little - known in Russia

Mikhail Khodorkovsky

He's famous. But he's NOT politician, his also NOT a political prisoner he is NOT a honest and popular men at all. In Yelsin era he had steal a huge amount of property.... He had to kill men who opposed him and so on.... It was possible in Yeltsin democracy era, but it became totally impossible when Vladimir Putin come to power. Khodorkovskiy - he does not understand that times have changed

. The chief opposition party has been banned.

Which party do you mean ?

Of course the Putin won, the only other candidates were the communists and minor parties.

Who else can be ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"the only other candidates were the communists and minor parties"

The only other candidates allowed to run were the communists and minor party candidates.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Let's probe electronic voting, hanging chads and the ridiculous two-party system in the US while we're at it.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Seriously America stop trying to meddle in every affair which happens on this planet. You don't own the world!

-1 ( +8 / -8 )

I think the majority of you are missing the point. Election fraud is a serious assault on democracy and bashing the U.S. for the suggestion of an inquiry shows how ignorant some people are. I hope more countries request and inquiry as well. Foreign monitors reported that the results were tilted in favour for Putin. Moreover, this thug was elected twice as President, once as Prime Minister and again as President. Something just doesn't jive.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Its got nothing to do with the US ... I dont recall Russia demanding a recount of the Bush vs Gore election fiasco

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Why don't the US just butt out? They are always making dumb statements like this about every international election/war/dispute etc.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Putin may not be the nicest guy in the world, but Russia is a rough place and they need an almighty dictator to hand down the law, he is trying to keep Russia united, do we want every Tom, Dicky and Vladimir to have their own republics with NUCLEAR WEAPONS ready to be sold to the highest bidder??

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

If Putin was a patriot he would step aside, win or no.

America may be the pot calling the kettle black, but the pot is correct. The kettle is black as a matter of fact.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Nuff said. I won't even go into the depredations Europe has gotten up to over the centuries, the misery they inflicted upon the world, Africa and South America in particular. I'll let oginome list those....

Why do you keep saying 'Europe', it's a bit disingenous to compare one country to an entire continent. Compare counties with countries. Educate yourself. The US has inflicted and continues to inflict suffering upon the world, what 'Europe' did doesn't change this,

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Because, as I pointed out, the EU also condemns the recent election in Russia. In fact, they do so in far more detail than the US does.

Yes, and the EU doesn't encompass all of Europe. Educate yourself.

I'll let you tell me which county I should begin with ...

Oh dear, I made a typo. You can compare the histories of country after country if you like or even counties, but that still doesn't justify or rationalise what America is doing today.

So does Russia, which killed 60 to 70 million of its own citizens. And Putin is a product of that system.

And what point did I defend Russia? Someone needs to learn how to read. And again, what Russia did and does do, does not justify America's 'adventures' in Iraq.

U.S. urges probe into Putin's victory

The pot calls the kettle Barack, I'm sorry black.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

And a vast majority of the posters still refuse to give any opinion about the actual elections, as if they can look past corrupt leaders and rigged elections...but comments from the US make them take a stand! heh.

No, I said they were rigged. People posted because, judging from their track record, it's a cause for concern when the US suddenly takes an interest in the affairs of another country.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Is Mr Obama very 'jealous' of Mr Putin's leadership, the former one has no leadership at all and well known defeated in two wars?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Geeezzzz...that's the problem. USA keep on meddling with other countries internal problems like they own it. GWB Presidential elections got numbers of anomalies too in Florida causing the other candidate the presidency. Did other countries meddled with it or ask for investigations? Naaahhhh.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@kurumazaka

Got it :)

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Putin is KGB and he is not a good man.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Wakarimasen

Why don't the US just butt out? They are always making dumb statements like this about every international election/war/dispute etc.

Well said, since when is an election held in another nation any concern of the US. Maybe they should look more at their own dubious elections its amazing how people forget the controversy that surrounded George Tush's election, did Russia or any other nation ask for a probe into that. BUTT OUT US!!!

-4 ( +0 / -3 )

Yet another case of the US "Pot calling the Kettle Black". As other posters noted about the Bush Jr election, and the current GOP debacle, voting fraud is as serious in the US as elsewhere(not picking on Russia). Putin may indeed be Stalinesque, but Obama and his policies are similarly totalitarian in nature.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Just because the US has had some tainted elections does not render it banned from commenting on other rigged elections. The world is not that simplistic people.

If something stinks it stinks. Doesn't matter who points it out!

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

this is what brings discredit to US.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

I think Russia should run their country the best way they know how. You have to survive, keep the energy flowing and provide jobs and health care for your people. Russia is on the other side of the planet and I think it's colder there too. America's climate is quite moderate.

These so called World leaders need to work to avert war and local conflicts. Nuclear war is an end game and as long as Putin doesn't wish to obliterate the planet then we're all good.

The U.S would be wise to improve it's relationship with Russia. Our allience with Japan is and will be our greatest error. At the moment of truth, Japan will turn on us and ally herself with whoever she thinks is more powerful. Even if that means siding with North Korea.
