What would you suggest Bertie? Certainly not converting to Islam, otherwise these killers will not rest! They are domineering, intolerable, and absolute evil! I feel sorry for the women. They have no voice in most matters. Just like they are dogs or worse.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

The USA: perpetually at war.

And radical Islam perpetually at peace?

6 ( +10 / -4 )

More killing will not solve this issue.

Im with you Bertie!.............The US needs to pull back to it's continental borders, set up an Iron Dome like defense, fortify it's border with Mexico and Canada and let the world go to Hell. The US faces a lose-lose scenario on the world stage, when the US does not intervene, it is condemned for inaction, when it intervenes the peace nuts come out of the woodwork screaming about heavy handiness. I'm all for letting some of the Isis nuts show up on other countries door steps and start chopping heads and stoning women, this is apparently the only way a large number of the population will realize that these folks don't respond nicely to a hug and counseling.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

In my opinion, the most effective way to fight these groups is to choke off their supply of weapons and their funds. Someone must be selling them their rifles and ammo. A concerted international joint police effort should be made to put those arms dealers out of business. Then, governments should go after their bank accounts. Use the best hackers in the world, if need be, to find these bank accounts and empty them. Without funds and ammo, all they can do is shout slogans on street corners or on YouTube videos.

I predicted this back in 2003. So did Colin Powell, when he told Bush: "You invade it, you own it." Then Bush fired him...for being right.

'Another surge, like the one in 2007 led by Gen. Petraeus which was successful, but Obama would NEVER do that. So NO, this admin. Has no idea of how to fix this .'

And you do know how to 'fix' this? The surge just delayed the inevitable - the collapse of Iraq after the soldiers left. What will another surge achieve in the long term? A mass outbreak of secularism and brotherhood in Iraq? If you are prepared to see more come home in body bags, say it.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

That would never work in reality, you don't wait until the jihadists come and kill you or bomb you

Well then, the rest of the world needs to get on the wagon and stop them now. The US has been a sucker to try to do the right thing and the only thanks offered are comments like those from Bertie and SimondB. The Islamic radicals are only leaving the rest of the world alone because they know they have to take on the US first or get a cruise missile parked in their jacuzzi. If the US butts out, they will target easier locations first to build their base. Putin is employing that tactic now in the Ukraine. If anyone believes he will stop with the Ukraine, they are fools, he wants the old USSR back or even more. Ever wonder why the world peace makers are not lining up to talk sense into the Muslims? The entry fee to the party is their heads.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Jeseyboy, Have they? They are more liberal than US for the most part. THis is the result also. Not a surprise to me.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

'Just read the history and try and recall the jubilation when US did invade.'

Who was jubilant? I recall the news networks getting huge viewing figures and getting almost erotic in their descriptions of US military might. I can also remember big business slavering away at the opportunities created. Is that who you mean?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Dead right, Jimizo.

The last thing we need right now is the spirit of the crusaders; we need calm, rational reflection and then action.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If the August 16 map of ISIS area on wikipedia is correct, looks ISIS already controls an area larger than Syria, itself one of the larger countries in the Middle East.

She said the United States estimates that IS militants have already received millions of dollars worth of ransoms so far this year alone. Most are believed to have been paid by European governments.

That's the real rub here. The U.S. is fighting an enemy that fellow members of NATO are paying millions of dollars worth of ransoms to. Would have thought Europe, more than any other part of the world, would have learned the horrible down-side of appeasement.

I think you should read Iraq history a bit

I know history of Iraq .

Don't forget the arab spring which rattled the region and continues today.

The so-called "arab spring" is a mess where various groups of terrorists reaps the state of, killing each others and innocent civilians.

Sadam was a ruthless dictator.

Oh, here we are again. Let us avoid political cliches, invented by U.S. State Department. Saddam was a tyrant, Lukashenko is a tyrant, Putin is a tyrant, Xi is a tyrant etc etc.. At least police in those "Tyrannical regimes" never kill a defenceless civilians just like it has taken place in Ferguson, USA. Neither Putin nor Lukashenko kill thousands of people by missile strikes or mortar shell as "democrats" Obama or Poroshenko do it right now.

'USA and middle east and civilized world need Richard I ( Richard the lion heart) of England who marched the fought against the Genocide and religious oppression during crusade war. If not, the whole world will be reading the sword verse of Koran sooner and later.'

Somebody else referenced Richard I the other day with regards to this situation. This whole debacle stems from one who fancied himself as a crusader with god on his side ( he was supposedly hearing voices in his head ) and it ended up in a calamitous bloodbath. I think we can do without another leader with delusions of grandeur.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@Bertie

Much as I tend to agree with you, aren't you forgetting 9/11?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Is there a Richard I crusader cult around that I haven't heard of? His name keeps coming up on this site.

Obama on ISIS: "We don't have a strategy yet"

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/obama-addresses-isis-in-syria-ukraine-crisis/

We know Mr. President, we know. Maybe it is about time that he give this some thought and come up with something. This is the guy who is so nuanced he confuses himself by taking all sides of every issue and ends up incapable of making a decision about anything that doesn't involve expanding government control over his fellow citizens daily life. America's foreign policy is a mess in nearly every corner of the globe. Make a decision and be an assertive leader for once - that is if you can spare any time off from the golf course.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said. “They are tremendously well funded. This is beyond anything we have seen.”

I hope Hagel is telling Obama and not just the press. The President doesn't hear much outside of his Valerie Jarrett bubble.

night knight, and if no US policy in the region what would exist today? I don't completely disagree but their are many contributing factors to consider here. Not all US policy is tragic.

lucabrasi,

Exactly!

Let's not forget where Hammurabi, whose famous line is "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," came from.

As soon as you get into "retaliation mode," you've lost.

All you do is reduce yourself down to that level.

The US needs to "chill," step back and realistically calculate whether a long, drawn-out war with Islam is going to benefit them or not.

There has never been a terrorist attack on American soil, but the way the US is acting, it's very likely to happen.

Bashing Uighurs?

Isn't ISIS a wet dream for the Military Industrial (not-so-) Complex?

@Droll

I agree with you, but many of the corporate elites do not, unfortunately. (see the Military Industrial Complex, et. al.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yeah, yeah, the worlds biggest evil, danger to west, lives in Iraq ... blahblahblah , heard it before .

cry wolf . too many lies last time from usa/UK for me ( & judging by comments & polls others too) to believe this time

Another U.S. created beast tries to rip its former master throat.

It's disgusting how the terrorists take the Koran and twist its teachings. I may be a Buddhist, but IS has to be destroyed or the world will see nothing but one 9/11-scale attack after another.

and if no US policy in the region what would exist today?

Stable Iraq and stable Lybia. Many people would be alive and quite happy. Less amount of various islamic terrorists in the region.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

"They are tremendously well funded. This is beyond anything we have seen."

Of course they are. Al-CIA-duh has the deepest pockets on the planet.

Serrano

Recently People republic have got many stabbing murders in the railway station and many public place. I am not a fan of Chinese leaders and communist party. However they did not say anything unproductive like JT posters or Western leaders. They started rapid fire action for cracking down on murderers of civilians.

As the western expat, I feel safer during my trip there and admired the strong leadership, prompt action and decisiveness of Xi Jingping the drangon heart. Because they have no friendly immigration policy and pampering criminals who beheaded British solider. I guess Xi Jingping may be reincarnated by Richard the lion heart of England.

He talks very little. He is the man in action as Richard I who has knightly behaviors. Unlike him our leaders talkand talk, more debate and play golf. The consequence is we have been bullied and butchered in our homeland.

I agree with Nathaw for doing nothing or little can not solve anything. Weak and spineless leaders are not the solution for ISIL or ISIS. Diplomatic talks and tolerance to barbaric murderers will not solve that problem. It is right time for another Crusade adventure.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said: “This is an organization that has an apocalyptic end of days strategic vision that will eventually have to be defeated.”

Cue the Rapture tourists.

Let's not forget where Hammurabi, whose famous line is "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," came from.

I agree.

As soon as you get into "retaliation mode," you've lost.

So please, tell me what's your suggestion, buy flowers, apologize and expect that they will leave us alone, you see what Obama did. He disengaged himself from everything and what happened? Everything fell to S***! So in this theoretical world, it's beautiful and wonderful, but as a REALIST, it's NOT going to happen.

All you do is reduce yourself down to that level.

What the....HEY! this is NOT your typical High school, kids dispute. USS Cole, Kenyan Embassy, 9/11, the London bombings, the Madrid bombings, kidnapping and killing the Ambassador and destroying the embassy in Libya and on and on, so you just accept it and walk away?? Yeah, right. NOT being engaged is having the EXACT OPPOSITE effect and what's happening now is a clear evidence of that.

The US needs to "chill," step back and realistically calculate whether a long, drawn-out war with Islam is going to benefit them or not.

No.

There has never been a terrorist attack on American soil, but the way the US is acting, it's very likely to happen.

9/11, Fort Hood, that was what an isolated attack. An on the job grievance issue? Bertie.....never mind....

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Here we go again. A new enemy, a new war, where thousands of innocents will die. The USA: perpetually at war. Although this next one is a direct result of their ill conceived previous one. As you sow.........

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Im with you Bertie!.............The US needs to pull back to it's continental borders, set up an Iron Dome like defense, fortify it's border with Mexico and Canada and let the world go to Hell. The US faces a lose-lose scenario on the world stage, when the US does not intervene, it is condemned for inaction,

That would never work in reality, you don't wait until the jihadists come and kill you or bomb you. You seem to forget 9/11. If anything, you need to crush and if NOT demoralize, you need to decimate the senior leadership of ISIS, keep doing that, isolate them into smaller pockets and from them to use any resources from financing their jihadist agenda is what Washington should really concentrate on. Being an isolationist will get you killed and that is what the Jihadists want.

I don't want to be the worlds police either, but pulling back is NOT the answer, because no matter how we may want to ignore or stick our heads in the sand, the fact is ISIS is growing, they have many foreign fighters and their numbers are growing at an alarming rate and this notion that they are the bogeyman is just pure outlandish nonsense.

@simond

You are way off, nothing to sow, blame the sectarian conflict and Maliki for overwhelmingly to have given birth to ISIS.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Why don't the U.S military nuke them already I lost one of my family in the Philippines because of the bombings

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

"Islamic State"

How come we never hear about Christian States, Hindu States, Buddhist States or Atheist States, just Islamic States...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Here we go again. A new enemy, a new war, where thousands of innocents will die. The USA: perpetually at war. Although this next one is a direct result of their ill conceived previous one.

When a terrorist group declares war against another country it is not smart to ignore them and hope they go away. That's what leads to atrocities like 9-11. Also, the existence of ISIS is not the result of the "previous war", They are the result of Obama's bumbling response to Syria. That group didn't even exist when Obama became president. They were born out of Obama's inaction against Assad. Ask Hillary Clinton, even she knows that.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

night knight -I think you should read Iraq history a bit and the last ten years with an aged sadam who knows what when or how the situation would be today. Don't forget the arab spring which rattled the region and continues today.

Certain unrest in Iraq if US did not invade. Just read the history and try and recall the jubilation when US did invade. Sadam was a ruthless dictator. It seems that works for those people but who would have succeeded sadam? One of his sons? The oldest was reported to be even more of a monster Sadam was. Oh, and all those distinguished killers surrounding Sadam were not a people friendly crowd.

I did not want Iraq invaded eight BUT, pointing fingers over a decade out is not solving todays problems.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

"The most dangerous group (IS)" is a direct result of U.S. foreign policy.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

When the footage of decapitation of American Journalist video captured world wide attention, British PM cancelled his holidays and made the emergency meeting for restricting the movement of home grown terrorists. Australian PM also come back from break urgently and tried to introduce new security law. He asked Australians Muslims for becoming the team of their adopted nation.

On the contrary, president Barrack Hussein Obama made the five minutes speech for media and went back for playing nine holes or seven holes, It is disgusting to see President has no sensitivity about the victim. He ha no solution either. All he could do is talk, play, enjoy the vacation and blame someone for current blood shed. He has been elected for performing the duty of commander in Chief. Playing Golf can not solve anything!

USA and middle east and civilized world need Richard I ( Richard the lion heart) of England who marched the fought against the Genocide and religious oppression during crusade war. If not, the whole world will be reading the sword verse of Koran sooner and later.

BertieWoosterAug. 22, 2014 - 07:35AM JST More killing will not solve this issue.

If we act civil, they will still keep on beheading folks.

So, your Liberal let's hug them and be nice will not work.

They want to kill you and they will kill you if you continue with your Liberal mantra.

The only way to deal with fanatics is to be ruthless, but if the West continues to follow your way of thinking (Liberal, love them till we bleed out) there will be much more innocent blood.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

More killing will not solve this issue.

Massive US attacks only serve to drive the fighting underground. It's been that way at least since the ancient Greeks, 3,000 years ago. The slaughter of non-combatants just adds fuel to the fire.

Doesn't the US have any other way of solving a problem?
