“Make no mistakes: This virus is still circulating in our community, perhaps even more now than in previous weeks

The virus spread is aided by the yahoos herding about in clusters showing off prized weapons from their private arsenals parroting end the lockdown slogans from Trump and his media

20 ( +30 / -10 )

1000 to 1 odds, Donald Trump will state he takes no responsibility for this.

20 ( +29 / -9 )

the lockdowns will not work

Probably not in America.

The lockdowns have been pretty effective in the rest of the world.

But subtracting the New York metropolitan area from the analysis changes the story. Without it, the rate of new cases in the U.S. increased over the same period from 6.2 per 100,000 people to 7.5.

The daily number of new deaths in the U.S. declined noticeably in recent weeks. But if the New York area is left out, deaths have essentially plateaued. The rolling five-day average outside the metro region for new deaths dropped slightly from 1.86 per 500,000 people on April 20 to 1.82 on Monday.

Due to the greed, and influence, of New York City, and New York state, and the stupidity of the mayor, and governor, it's clear that the numbers previously used to predict the numbers of infected, and dead, in the U.S. were wrong. Are these new numbers any more accurate than the old numbers?

Britain’s official coronavirus death toll, at more than 29,000, surpassed that of Italy to become the highest in Europe and second-highest in the world behind the United States.

① First known case of the coronavirus in France was in December. A patient treated in a hospital near Paris on the 27th of December for suspected pneumonia actually had the coronavirus, his doctor has said. The invisible enemy reached the scepter’d isle and Europe much earlier than previously thought.

② Israel says the US gave warning of a pandemic in China to Israel in November. US intelligence informed the Trump administration, “which did not deem it of interest,” but the report said the Americans also decided to update two allies with the classified document: NATO and Israel, specifically the IDF. Trump and Pompeo aren’t going anywhere with the scapegoating. The information was not public domain but a part of the intelligence community. Moreover, Trump warns Israel but did not warn Italy, Japan, and others?

https://www.timesofisrael.com/us-alerted-israel-nato-to-disease-outbreak-in-china-in-november-report/

People across the densely packed region live practically on top of each other in apartment buildings and ride together on subways, buses and trains.

So do people in Tokyo

America was founded on certain principles--and freedom or death was one of them.

That makes for a nice license plate slogan on New Hampshire now. Too bad for you and the rest of the protesters that this is a completely different situation than in the late 1700s because this lockdown is not permanent.

No right is absolute.

12 ( +18 / -6 )

Its genuinely disturbing to see how badly the US is handling this.

11 ( +19 / -8 )

The media is too far gone and hellbent on perpetuating a red vs. blue dichotomy, and portraying to the public images of bungling politicians that result in further division among the public--to the point that we can't believe any of them or the numbers that go up and down daily. The only solution is to start reading more non-English news sources.

But your boy Donny is all about bringing people together, right? He isn’t constantly fanning the flames of division via Twitter, is he?

Talk about pre-seasoning the argument with media bad, libs worse.

11 ( +20 / -9 )

Moreover, Trump warns Israel but did not warn Italy, Japan, and others?

Scratch that, Italy a part of NATO but was Abe warned?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

...others are using the pandemic as a cover to promote their one world globalist socialist view.

Someone needs to take a sharp Occam's razor to this tired old dirt-bag meme: Corona is riding on the backs of ignorance in "red" states, not on a trumped up specter of a red threat. Just give it a rest! The country needs real leadership to get through this pandemic, the kind once provided by the marble giant who towered over the tiny Trump at the latter's last "transparent" photo-op.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

Chip Star - But your boy Donny is all about bringing people together, right?

LOL. It's the Democrats who have refused to work with Republicans, conservatives, independents, and even Democrats who do not chose to blindly follow the latest Democrat Party babbling. That's what their "resist" movement is all about. Democrats object to Trump counter-punching those hate-mongering Democrats. The Democrats aren't fooling anyone. Everyone knows that Democrats advocate not working with, or even associating with, those who are not groupthink Dems.

-15 ( +5 / -20 )

No, but nice attempt to gaslight.

Democrats object to Trump counter-punching those hate-mongering Democrats.

No, Dems object to a president that is so childish he can’t rise above anything to lead.

The Democrats aren't fooling anyone. Everyone knows that Democrats advocate not working with, or even associating with, those who are not groupthink Dems.

Haha. And then you realize republicans all get their talking points from Faux “News” and rarely, if ever criticize Donny. But, yeah, it’s the Dems that are in lockstep.

Also, you didn’t answer my question: Is Donny about bringing people together?

4 ( +12 / -8 )

the incompetence of New York response related to nursing home deaths is becoming more clear. So have to move the focus away from NY and claim the rest of the USA is "next!" as they start opening.

then NY will be returned to when its time for the "second wave!" narrative. I saw yesterday that NY is claiming another 1600 deaths were "missed" in the nursing homes and they want to add those to the total.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

Chip Star - No, Dems object to a president that is so childish he can’t rise above anything to lead.

LOL. Literally everyone knows that the Democrat's "resist" nonsense began BEFORE Trump was even President. Democrats have objected to all things Republican, conservative, liberal, or progressive if Trump is for it. It's a groupthink, and kneejerk, reaction that has become the standard operating principle of the Democrat Party.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

Imagine what the carnage in nursing home in red states would be like if anyone wanted to live in red states.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

It seems to me Americans are so independent and selfish people that they can hardly stand the stay-at-home order for more days. So higher infection rate and higher mortality rate would not decline soon.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Most likely, because Americans will start with civil disobedience.

Like shooting security guards and carrying assault weapons into state houses?

7 ( +11 / -4 )

There is one reason that the United States leads the world in Covid-19 cases, and its name is Trump. Had we focused on a defense in February and March, instead of denial, we would look like South Korea or Singapore. Instead, no other nation has done as poor a job as we have, and that is entirely because we are lead by a reality TV - conspiracy theory president who doesn't know how to do anything but lie and steal.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

If someone were to ask me how to make things worst in the US I'd say:

Stay at home is obviously containing the spread.  So let's abandon this approach.  Instead we should rapidly open everything up.  This will ensure the masses can mingle together thus insuring a rapid and possibly out of control spread of Covid 19.  And we should shut down our response team.

Sounds like madness doesn't it?  And yet that is exactly what Trump is doing.  Lucky for him he is not responsible for any (bad) thing that happens.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Let the epitaph inscribed on America's tombstone read "Blah, blah, blah, blah. All talk and no meaningful action."

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Oh and its also been reported today that Trump is winding up the Coronavirus task force. Just as cases (outside New York) are going up, not down. He is literally quitting the fight against the virus when its barely begun, I guess because he got bored with it? Or because he is still grumpy that people made fun of him for his suggestion that people inject disinfectant?

Its insane to be watching the US Federal government fail so completely at a time like this because of one idiot.

92% effective rate in a Texas nursing home using hydroxychloroquine. with no heart issues noted in people who didnt already have them.

Imagine what the carnage in nursing home in red states would be like if anyone wanted to live in red states.

Texas had a great result. Costa Rica is using it and postive outcomes in France and China.

Fauci was fine with (hydroxy)chloroquine in 2005, by the way. For some reason, he prefers the costly big pharma solutions now.

"Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread"

In Japan, as an early symptom of the coronavirus infected, many said they felt different taste, different flavor or no taste at all of the foods they ate. I do not hear the same symptom among them in the west.

That symptom has been widely reported in the west as well.

arrestpaul: "Are these new numbers any more accurate than the old numbers?"

Well, if by "accurate" you mean made up numbers to stroke Trump's ego, I think some were made up inside his colon, blown out in some talk of his, then put back in through the mouths of the yes-men stuck up inside it. I think they're right next to the poll numbers Trump got the day after he was screaming about not losing to Biden after hearing the actual numbers.

So, you don't want to hear actual numbers, bud. You want to hear the trumpeted numbers created to make you feel better. But hey, just listen to Trump, who changes the number three or four times even within his own grandstanding. How many people did he save again? Thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions? since Obama's broken Covid tests left to him before Covid existed?

Cut the bleach injections, man.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Trump has caused so many deaths, he ignored all warnings from the WHO and China and now is blaming other people. Statements like "its just a flu" have killed so many people.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

This is all about Trump's reelection campaign now.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

As promised, he has made us #1......in cases of coronavirus infection, and in deaths.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The dangerous disgrace currently occupying the White House has only one main concern: being reelected in November 2020.

The rest doesn’t really matter .... damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

You know, regardless of the role that Trump’s reelection campaign plays in this, we have to admit that these lockdowns can’t go on forever. Yes, take precautions like social distancing, mask requirements, etc. But don’t keep a flat out lockdown for much longer than this.

Speaking of health, you know one way to help people get healthy? To go outside for power walks and runs and stuff. Seriously, exercise as we all know, is a great way to keep healthy. Social distancing included yes, but still. And no, of course not for the people who have the virus, that’s not what I meant.

92% effective rate in a Texas nursing home using hydroxychloroquine. with no heart issues noted in people who didnt already have them.

How come Trump stopped talking about this drug? Same with Mr. Clean? He never stops talks about his wall. This is Trump's fault now.

red vs. blue

Red states are less Intelligent. Blue states support them. Look at Kentucky vs NY.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

If the target is going to be zero new infections (even 1 new infection is an "increase") than it's gonna have to be full lockdowns ... forever.

It’s not and nobody has ever claimed it was. Well, right wing nut jobs may claim it is so they can stir up ignorance-driven fear amongst their barley literate cohort.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Fauci was fine with (hydroxy)chloroquine in 2005, by the way.

Fauci was fine with (hydroxy)chloroquine being used to treat Covid-19, a virus that didn't exist until 2019?

Um......

5 ( +10 / -5 )

As the states open up, I'm covering my eyes. It looks like most people still don't understand how virulent and dangerous this coronavirus is. I for one am certainly scared. This ain't your typical flu bug that comes and goes every year. Even this public info about standing 6 feet apart doesn't seem far enough (unless you're outside), but that's become the safety standard. Hopefully this will all work out but it looks like a really big gamble.

Most people go through life thinking bad things won't happen to them. They don't take something like this until it hits them or their loved ones in the face.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Google Spike D614G.

it is the mutation of the COVID19 virus that hit China. It first devastated Europe and now USA. I hate to think about India. 1.2billion people.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm sorry but these gun-toting idiots should be refused medical attention should they get ill. The medics already have their hands full.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Looks like a judge has restored the June primary that was unilaterally cancelled.

So New Yorkers will also get to share their voices at the ballot box as New York beings the long road to opening safely.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

It's simply ignorance at this stage - and the ignorance is being reinforced and bolstered directly from the White House.

It's like a dog being disobedient purely because of the owner's actions (or lack of). Why do you expect it to behave in any other way - it's following its master.

(Before the usual suspects jump on me - I'm not comparing American people to dogs, it's a metaphor.)

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Even with the stay at home, the rate was still rising. Now it will rise even faster with the relaxing of stay at home.

This is beyond stunningly stupid.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

If the target is going to be zero new infections (even 1 new infection is an "increase") than it's gonna have to be full lockdowns ... forever.

"Beat The Bug by Becoming Bored of it". Put that on a flag and wave it.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

There seems to be a great misunderstanding among posters here about the purpose of the lockdown.

Whenever it is that people return to work or venture outside their homes they will be exposed to the virus. It is there, it will be there. It may be a year or longer for a vaccine to be fully tested and produced (the vaccine, like all vaccines, will kill some of the recipients though the number will be small). If anyone thinks that any nation can wait to resume work until that time, then prepare if you can for economic collapse - and you won’t be able to. Fantasize all you want about a new progressive order being ushered in, but it will fail immediately.

Opening up in a calm, calculated manner while protecting the most vulnerable is the only solution.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Opening up in a calm, calculated manner while protecting the most vulnerable is the only solution.

Opening with sufficient capacity to test and trace so as to be able to control spread while we wait for a vaccine is the only solution. The US isn't ready for that yet. Some other countries are.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

New York

Question: What's up with Gov. Cuomo's insane policy - nursing homes admit and readmit patients who test positive for coronavirus, and I'm not responsible for your personal protective equipment.

At one point it got so bad New York was reportedly, sending elderly coronavirus patients back to nursing homes with body bags. Oh my...

https://www.businessinsider.com/nursing-home-given-body-bags-when-they-accepted-coronavirus-patients-2020-4

This is all about Trump's reelection campaign now.

Or, following that logic, maybe it's all about Biden's election now, eh, SuperLib?

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Opening with sufficient capacity to test and trace so as to be able to control spread while we wait for a vaccine is the only solution.

That’s not going to happen any time soon. The spread will NOT be easily controlled. Waiting for a vaccine is NOT a good option.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

People who don't follow science and data

Scientists don’t agree and data is usually incomplete or even faulty.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

That’s not going to happen any time soon. The spread will NOT be easily controlled. Waiting for a vaccine is NOT a good option.

Yeah, hence what I said if you would bother to read it. A VACCINE is going to take a long time. Capacity to TEST and TRACE can be done in the short term. So when you've got that capacity in place, you can open up without waiting for the vaccine. Doing so before that is ready is just a recipe for disaster.

Things are getting worse in America, not better, and the incompetent leadership in the Oval Office is a huge part of the problem.

During the last presidential campaign people used to ask, Can you imagine Trump with his finger on the nuclear button? Well, we have so far avoided any nuclear wars, but his response to this pandemic is what we could have expected from someone of his mental caliber.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

the incompetent leadership in the Oval Office is a huge part of the problem.

You're confusing the Oval Office with the governors of New York and Michigan.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

It was after all, a response to a lawsuit filed by Andrew Yang,

So maybe the judge got confused and thought he was supposed to rule in favor of Andrew Yang.

Now we get to hear from Cuomo and DeBlasio and Schumer how Trump (not the judge, not Yang) will be killing thousands of people by allowing them to have their right to vote on June 23rd.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

You're confusing the Oval Office with the governors of New York and Michigan.

Don't recall the governors of New York or Michigan publicly suggesting the injection of disinfectant and sunlight as a miracle cure, among other things.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The WH clown circus do not realize the disaster they are creating.

Donny's ignorant denials, Pence's lack of a spine and then Jared's amateur show have made things worse than ever.

Wonder how many more have to die before the nutters see the light!!!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Yes, and my shocked reaction shows how uncommon it is for there to be no bias.

There is no bias in this specific case - as you yourself have just admitted.

Well, Until I realized that Yang and Bernie filed the lawsuit, which obviously confused the judge into granting it.

Andrew Cuomo isnt accepting it and plans to appeal. I dont see how it is fair to remove people from a ballot they qualified to be on.

The state's Democratic election commissioners voted last week to remove 10 presidential candidates from the ballot except Joe Biden, the only actively campaigning candidate and presumptive nominee.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Meanwhile, other states are opening back up and getting positive judgments against their tyrannical stay at home governors

Wisconsin Judge Slams Dem Governor’s Stay-At-Home Orders: ‘The Very Definition Of Tyranny’

State Assistant Attorney General Colin Roth stated that “people will die” if the extension order were to be repealed and nothing replaced it, according to The Hill. That prompted Judge Rebecca Bradley to counter, “My question for you is, where in the constitution did the people of Wisconsin confer authority on a single, unelected Cabinet secretary to compel almost 6 million people to stay at home and close their businesses and face imprisonment if they don’t comply, with no input from the Legislature, without the consent of the people?”

Bradley continued, “Isn’t it the very definition of tyranny for one person to order people to be imprisoned for going to work, among other ordinarily lawful activities?”

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

The daily number of new deaths in the U.S. declined noticeably in recent weeks. But if the New York area is left out, deaths have essentially plateaued. The rolling five-day average outside the metro region for new deaths dropped slightly from 1.86 per 500,000 people on April 20 to 1.82 on Monday.

So according to this article if you live outside the metro region, on April 20 you would have had a 0.000372% chance of dying from Covid and on Monday your chances would have been 0.000364%.
