Here we go !
Is it really necessary for the USA navy to do this ?
Nemo

Yes, it is.

The most corrupt fleet in the history of the US,the 7th fleet, their command is under supervision from Washington, because of all the criminal behavior,100 of officiers were indicted ,court martial and other military action were taken against the 7 fleet

Why?

Are US so afraid of China to make such a circus display??..
FizzBit
LOL
This is looking more like a deep state op coordinated with China. Biden’s name is not mentioned once in this piece which leads me to believe the MSM is once again employed by the Biden administration to trick you into voting for Dems this November. China and “the big guy” Biden are friend’s indeed.
Bob Fosse
Oh my. Sure. Flip it to whatever makes you comfortable. Let me guess, you’ll be ‘shadow banned’ now for telling us too much.

Yrral is referring to the Fat Leonard scandal I think. If anyone was wondering.

If you are not on medication, you should consider it. And this is not off-topic or impolite. This kind of statement is unhinged lunacy and could be deemed evidence of a mental break.

Great move by Pelosi. It not only pisses of China but also the far-right Americans who are lining up to lick China's boots.
Sh1mon M4sada
..read Fizzbit's post quoted below.
Pelosi's plane flew an indirect route so as to NOT enter China's claimed 9 dash line area. This has all the to and fro all worked out in the backroom of the Whitehouse and Beijing meticulously.
All the rest is just a media show, like the first US/China meeting where Blinken got owned on camera.
tooheysnew
nobody was wondering
UChosePoorly
Are you making a prediction, Bronco? Or is this just you hoping?
Desert Tortoise
Why? To deter China from going beyond loud rhetoric and displays of military might. Some of suggested China might try to encircle Taiwan with naval and air forces and cut its trade in retaliation. A navy like that of the US can prevent that from happening. But without that Navy Taiwan would be much more exposed to that kind of pressure from Taiwan. Just having that carrier strike group east of Taiwan is normally enough deterrence to prevent Beijing from doing anything more than make a bunch of noise. It is to prevent a war, not start one.
bass4funk
Maybe, we hope. As of now we really don’t know the Chinese naval capabilities.
To a certain point

I like this. Very smooth, couch the insult as actual concern, while hiding and distracting from the truth.

I am not trying to convey concern. So there is that....
And the "Truth" is that there is not a scintilla of it in the screed you posted. It is bat-feces crazy.

Excellent point.
Speaking of point, anyone know what exactly is the point of this trip? All risk and no reward it seems.
Part of Pelosi's farewell tour in front of the media before her retirement next year?
But she is a seasoned politician---she received less than 100,00 votes to put her in her position.
Of course she knows what she is doing--she is taking the best course of action to benefit her country, right?
FizzBit
Take it easy Nemo. Why so upset? However, the history of DC manipulating and manufacturing stories in the MSM is a fact even if you choose to ignore them. Babies out of incubators and WMD’s in Iraq to name a couple, were all lies pushed on the public.
mdepaiva
China is the one making all the noise. What is China afraid of? Pelosi has a right to visit Taiwan.
The Avenger
A carrier group is far more than 4 ships. You can be sure they are all on heightened alert and the multiple fire control radars are ready. In the air, on the surface and under water. I believe China will only display it's anger with slight intrusions into Taiwan air space. We have to stand up and not bow to their threats.
Desert Tortoise
There are no maybes or hope involved. That is all I can say on the matter.
bass4funk
I disagree on a number of levels given the 30 years of Chinese military buildup and preparation for this and the US worrying about woke-ism
Yup!

a few months back you said the US should protect Taiwan against a mainland Chinese invasion.
RichardPearce
It's all fun and games from the American point of view, until China 'in an outrageous act of aggression' that 'confirms its presence shouldn't be tolerated by civilized countries' 'egregiously violates international norms' by, say, blockading Gitmo, or helping Syria force the foreign forces occupying it to withdraw, imposes secondary sanctions against American companies that provide aid to the US military units like 'Seal Team Six' and the drone death squads.
Or enacts a law that prohibits cargo carriers that dock in Taiwan or airplanes that land in Taiwan from then traveling on to 'mainland China' to land or deliver more cargo unless they have been licensed by China as an 'internal carrier'
Designates American military units and their members who invaded or occupied Syria as terrorists and terrorist organizations.
Or any other act that comes close to the act of war that an official representative of the American government deliberately invading Chinese territory is.
Peter14
So strange that an American loves to bag his own country and support Russia and China so often. Makes one wonder why his allegiance lies elsewhere.
The US navy is run by the US government on behalf of the people of the United States.
They are pre positioned to assist should speaker Pelosi's plane have any difficulties when traveling from Taiwan to it's next tour destination. Read that any way you like. They have every right to sail in international waters and to ensure a high ranking government member has all the support she may need in any eventuality. Given that China threatened possible military response it is only prudent and only happened thanks to the Chinese threat.

Glad to have heard that. The Biden administration can plead ignorance on this one--which is a good thing.
Speaking of pleading, Pelosi's husband will be arraigned in court for DUI Wednesday.
When I was little, we used to play baseball in the street and sometimes the ball would end up in the yard of an old lady who lived alone. She would come out and make a racket when we would go on her lawn to retrieve the ball, and sometimes we would even give her threatening looks or make snarky remarks to her. Kind of felt bad for her though, having lost her husband years before.
We never did anything beyond that though. And I can't even remember her name now.
bass4funk
I still believe that, I just don’t think this administration is up for the task given their disastrous history geopolitically over the last year.
No, no deflection and it’s not that difficult to understand or comprehend. It’s another missed opportunity that this as well as the Obama administration refused to take seriously.
That goes both ways with discussions pertaining to this administration.

China would be slicing its own dangly bits off with a move like that. First off every nation has "cabotage" laws that require ships making deliveries from one domestic port to another to be locally registered, owned and crewed. The US law is called the Jone Act. But no nation makes ships bringing in foreign cargos that make multiple port calls to follow their cabotage laws. Doing that would just chase shippers away.
The US allows foreign flagged ships to make multiple US port calls on their routes. They don't load cargo in one US port for delivery in another US port, that would be a violation of the Jones Act. But they will make two or three stops on the US west coast dropping off containers from Japan, South Korea, China and even Taiwan, and pick up containers for those destinations on the return trip.

The source said the Chinese aircraft repeatedly conducted tactical moves of briefly "touching" the median line and circling back to the other side of the strait while Taiwanese aircraft were on standby nearby - ****a move they described as provocative.
Wondering what that sentence would sound like if read out loud by David Chappelle.
Desert Tortoise
Sigh. There is an international coalition fighting in northern Syria to prevent IS from reconstituting its caliphate there, and to keep IS out of the oil fields that were formerly a major source of revenue to fund their operations. The nations involved include the US, France, UK, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Bahrain, Germany, Qatar and Netherlands, Australia and Canada. The Turks are notionally part of the coalition but they devote their energies to attacking the Kurds who the US supports while basically ignoring IS and teaming with an Al Qaeda affiliate HTS. A lot of allied nations to sanction and especially when there is no occupation going on.
Desert Tortoise
Nothing has changed for you since, has it. Still making snarky remarks as you pick up your ball from someone else's yard as if it was their fault the ball landed there.

Strike Two
Desert Tortoise
Depends. The combat element might only be the carrier and three DDGs or two DDGs and a CG. Three Aegis systems with their SPY-1 radars and about 280-290 VLS tubes, some of which are going to be quad packed with ESSM and 7 or 8 21-tube ram launchers distributed among the ships. A lot of air defense missiles, and that ignores what the air group brings to a fight.
The supporting elements, the logistics support ships, are normally civilian manned Military Sealift Command ships. Any subs are not acknowledged so they don't mentioned in the official hull count.

any defense of Taiwan would be by the US military so you are now saying it's not up to the job? Biden just took out al Qaeda leader Zawahiri in Kabul using those horrific Hellfire missiles which have no explosives, just rotating blades to chop everything up. Are they even legal?
Nemo
In addition to the Regan group, I read that 2 amphibious assault ships stripped of their Marine assault units but equipped to their max F-35 load outs making them essentially small aircraft carriers have been deployed as well.
bass4funk
Yes, at this present moment in time.
No, he ordered and sanctioned the hit of Zawahiri which I am very grateful for, but he’s not in the military.
Who cares? I’m just glad the guy is now pieces of a distant memory.
Kyo wa heiwa dayo ne
Well China has a very large navy and coastguard.
It's been said for quite sometime China would use a flotilla of ships to stifle any trade from or to Taiwan.
Should be interesting to see what happens next

You insult your own troops just like Trump did on several occasions too. The two million service people who are serving and protecting your country around the world.
The president is always in the military unless you do not recognize the rank of Commander-in-Chief.
You should care because one-day similar weapons might be used against your own troops.
bass4funk
Not at all, I’m critical towards the leadership that’s presiding and commanding our troops!
Yes, but Biden needs to allow the military to make critical decisions without him putting forth his ideas and wishes. Apparently, he didn’t learn anything from Afghanistan.
Again, that is exactly why I’m so critical of this administration.

This is what the rogue state of the USA do best, provoke for war.

It’s ridiculous for China to be so angry at an 82 year old woman giving a speech about peace and freedom.

The capabilities of the troops do not change even with different presidents. Biden increased your defense spending.
I think all presidents listen to the advice of their very large staff of generals, military advisers, NSA, and CIA.
I think you will be critical just because it's not your party.

And where are the US's "allies" on this? The UK is too scared to make any supportive comment.
China warned UK lawmakers against visiting Taiwan.
Silence, from the US' "friends".

I know. Just let her try some bubble tea, see the pretty lights on Taipei 101 Tower, and get back and support her husband who will be arraigned in court for DUI Wednesday.
Or, maybe that was the plan all along, to get away from him . . .
Oh well---let the taxpayers foot this cathartic self-seeking adventure.
