It would be great if Canada helped out. After all, the US provides Canada with a safe border from coast to coast.

Most Canadians probably want nothing to do with it and additional expense.

It sounds awfully nice, but wouldn’t that also be like throwing gasoline on an out of control fire?

Canada can take care of itself, thank you very much. And if anything, the opposite of what you said is true.

And the threat is from where? If anything, the US is a threat to Canada. The US with its military bases around the world and support for apartheid states was the reason for 9/11.

in his speech, Biden says “US can't 'wall ourselves off'”

reality: Construction of a taxpayer-funded wall around Biden's Delaware vacation home started last week

How many South and Central Americans would cross the Mexico-US border and then transverse across the whole of the US to reach the Canadian border?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Biden doesn't have a clue. Immigration policies are just the tip of the iceberg.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Accepting immigrants who arrive by air is good policy. Some have suggested that only the rich can afford this - yet the price of a ticket is surely less than that demanded by coyotes. And Google "Darien Gap" - probably the most dangerous place on Earth.

Long-term, solution lies in creating better economies locally to provide incentives for locals to stay home. That is why Biden recently made a visit to the area, something Trump never did during his four years.

Yes one of many reasons why once again no one really knows what Biden is talking about. Including Biden.

my best guess is he wants to fly illegals to Canada after they illegally cross by land. or fly them direct to Canada from Mexico.

He got caught flying illegals all around the USA at night to small local airports so that is not a solution now.

Which “the area”?

This is just embarrassing at this point.

These three leaders, Biden, Obrador, and Trudeau are a match made in hell. Under them, North America doesn't have a very good future ahead.

@wolfshine, if you live in any of those countries you should definitely move. Maybe to Cuba? Haiti? Russia? Hungary? My list could go on, but I'm sure that even you get the point.

The United States is looking to Canada to help cope with the growing number of migrants at the United States' border with Mexico

The agreement would help thousands immigrate through legal channels

Corrected

The United States is looking to Canada to help cope with the growing number of illegal migrants at the United States' border with Mexico. The agreement would help tens of thousands of illegal migrants to be legalized and forced moved as legal migrants to Canada, In other words all the existing and new illegals would be all legalized migrants.

The US has few choices. Ideally, help the other countries people are fleeing to become normalized, profitable, uncorrupt, and without gangs so that nobody needs to leave them.

OR

Provide a legal method for people to learn if their asylum request to the USA will be allowed BEFORE they leave on the trip.

Biden setting limits for how many can apply and how they may enter is a good thing. Providing clear explanations for the rules can stop migrants from violating those rules. For now, illegally crossing the boarder or arriving on a boat do not qualify, so anyone serious about gaining their American dream won't go those methods. Crossing into the US illegally causes a 10 yr ban on entry. I'd make it a lifetime ban to make it too great a risk for anyone to break the rule. Then only the drug smugglers would be doing it and that drastically changes how illegal border arrests would need to be performed.

Canada mentioned a few months ago that they wanted some immigrants. The trick for them is to get enough, but not too many like the USA has, and to get "good people". Sure, we'd all like for every immigrant to be flush with money to spend in our countries.

Biden trying to shift the immigrants to airplane arrivals has multiple goals.

a) They arrive to a controlled entry point and are able to have some background checks (no-fly-list).

b) They have some ability to save money to buy an airline ticket.

c) Only a few thousand can possibly enter per day, unlike land boarders.

d) International airports are in larger cities with more govt people and shifting them to other parts of the US if their asylum request has been pre-approved will be easier. Getting southern immigrants away from the most southern states is important. After decades of illegal immigrants crossing the border and stopping in the border states, there aren't any more places there for more. They need to be shifted to the middle and northern states to help share the load.

e) Crossing over land, illegally, usually means some coyotes are being paid $2000+ per person. That's a bunch of money when an airline flight is just $200-$500 with little to zero dangers, unlike walking 20 miles in the desert.

f) Crossing using a boat, usually overloaded, open to the air, is dangerous. People die in those crossings all the time.

So, the administration's plans are a step in the right direction. Hopefully, the clear communications will help Mexico by stopping people unqualified getting stuck in their country. Also, hopefully, Canada can accept 200K people a year. Canada's population is about 1/10th that of the USA, as a reference. Canada has about the same amount of total land. That's an interesting fact.

Canada has its own invasion from the Chinese goe to Vancouver, and its not like it use to be not much french spoken! If I were Canada I would tell the US to go pound sand. By 2050 the US will be predominantly Spanish speaking.

I don't know why Canada would pick up the American right-wing deep-state MSM culture war for them. Only people of extremely low intelligence required to be a sheeple fall into that.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Let them take in more, they actually need more people.

Canada already has an immigration policy. This is America's issue, I'm not sure why you are so silly to think Canada would pick up far-right extremist ridiculousness just because Fox News is hysterical.

Canada already has an immigration policy. This is America's issue,

We should help each other, Canada can and should have more people.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

We should help each other

Canada isn't interested in helping extremists.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Out of 170,000 illegals, I'm sure there are a few that aren't extreme.

Out of 170,000 illegals, I'm sure there are a few that aren't extreme.

Of course, the overwhelming majority are not extremists. In fact, pretty much all of them just want to work and live a good life. Which is why only low-intelligence right-wing extremist sheeple who believe the deep-state MSM think that the culture war being stoked is worth getting hysterical over.

Why would Canada want to help right-wing American extremists?

@wolfshine, if you live in any of those countries you should definitely move.

I already did. I saw the writing on the wall with America's immigration and other policies, and got out.

Maybe to Cuba? Haiti? Russia? Hungary? My list could go on, but I'm sure that even you get the point.

Not sure what point you are trying to make including Hungary among that list.

Funny how left-leaning people in Canada don't like immigrants. Is it the skin color of the immigrants?

Canada has asked for more immigrants. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63643912 They want 1.5M more. The US and Mexico can help .... or is is ok for Canada to pick their immigrants, but not for other countries?

I'm confused.

Hungary is in the list because their govt has gone "nationalistic" and is trying to become aligned with Moscow, when they can get away with it. They are on the line with Europe, for now. But as they see Ukrainians entering their eastern border, realiity of Russia knocking has finally set in. Belarus made the wrong choice. It is just a matter of time before a new Russian Allies group is formally created and Russians dictate what those countries with it must do, like they did in the USSR days.

History will repeat if we all don't take a stand, but especially the eastern Europeans and former Soviet states have the greatest risks.

Funny how left-leaning people in Canada don't like immigrants.

What gives you that idea? Canadians seem fine with immigration. They have a large quota, and the people for the most part treat immigrants very nice.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I think maybe you guys are confusing Canada's unwillingness to pick up the extremist right-wing anti-immigration agenda of Fox News, with Canada having a problem with immigration.

Canada wants immigrants. But they do it logically, the Canadian way, not hysterically, the American far-right extremist way.
