U.S. tells China to improve ties with Australia

Washington should stop running around the 'Great Wall' and simply invite former President Carter to happily announce that the USA is re-establishing full diplomatic ties with ROC-TW .

Trump already did this as he was being evicted from the White House. Hasn't changed China's attitude one iota. What's your next cunning plan?

It's not that simple. The US cannot unilaterally recognize Taiwan as an independent nation because Taiwan itself has never claimed to be an independent nation separate from China. Rather the ROC government in Taiwan has claimed to be the only legitimate government of all of China, not just of Taiwan, with the CCP as occupiers. Were Taiwan to declare itself an independent nation the PRC would immediately attack Taiwan and probably the US too. Moreover the US is certainly not going to start calling Taiwan an independent nation on its own because that would put Taiwan in a supremely difficult position. Taiwan would either have to go along and declare independence knowing China would immediately attack with deadly and tragic results, or more likely Taiwan would feel compelled to repudiate the US claim of Taiwanese independence in order to maintain the status quo. I think much of the west is kind of holding their breath on the matter hoping China eventually implodes like the old USSR and make the whole argument moot.

Actually asking Beijing to drop its trade bans and tariffs against Australia. Beijing would need to show some love to Australia before it can "give Canberra more love!"

It comes down to a matter of money. I do not agree with it but that is the bottom line. Nations can only have diplomatic relations with one of them and China is the bigger money earner for just about all nations. So all chose diplomatic relations with China rather than Taiwan. The people of the world on the other hand would much rather have diplomatic relations with Taiwan and leave China in the diplomatic wilderness. That may be the best way to handle China in the end anyway.

Now if China is the devil then what do we call those who wants to be its friend?

The CCP that rules over China is the devil and nobody who loves freedom wants to be friends with them. But the average Chinese person is fine and friendly and there is no issue being friends with the average person who wants the same things for his/her family as you do for yours.

How so? The US demanding China treat one of it's closest allies better in order to have better relations with the US somehow make the US and China partners? That is not a logical conclusion.

This is a clear sign of Biden being tough on China, something his predecessor couldn't manage (he even started a trade war that helped nobody).

It is also good to see Biden looking after the US's allies. A lot of damage from the previous administration has to be rebuilt.

Beijing responded with trade reprisals on Australian coal, wine, barley, live seafood, beef and timber.

I will attempt to buy more Australian products to help compensate - at least the wine and beef and a beverage made from barley. (Sorry, I cannot use the coal or the timber right now).

Yes, I’d say diplomatically we are way more mature than China anyway. They are the ones who should take a good hard look at themselves but I’d say most Australians now have quite a negative view of China.

Biden knows Australia has taken no retaliatory actions against China and remains fully ready for diplomatic contacts at all levels with China. There is nothing more Australia can do to improve relations with China.

Unless you expect Australia to beg forgiveness for being free and sovereign, which will never ever happen.

China is not Japan. China controls its own independent foreign policy.
