Politics aside, and his mistakes aside, he's a human being after all. May he recover, along with the thousands upon thousands affected by the virus in the United Kingdom and the world.

Get well soon Boris!

I wish him, and everyone suffering during this, a speedy recovery. And this is inadvertently his strongest message yet -- don't mess around; this is serious.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

For the sake of the UK, a temporary replacement needs to be named.

Dominic Raab (Foreign Secretary) is already deputising.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Best wish for his speedy recovery.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

Not a fan of Boris and his politics but I hope he recovers safely.

If there's any silver lining to all this it's hopefully that people in the UK and particularly the conservatives have a new found appreciation of just how important the NHS is. Britain's most important post-war institution.

Its worth recalling that his girlfriend is pregnant and he is about to become a father. This could be really tragic and I really do hope that he recovers.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Poor man. I wouldn't wish this one on anyone.

5 ( +12 / -7 )

Get well Boris, you still have a long life ahead of you.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I hope everyone who is infected recovers.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

I wish him and others the best of luck, but I have a bad feeling about this one.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

@zichi. Johnson is being cared for by the NHS.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Best wishes for his recovery, when it gets to ICU it's a very serious matter.

That said, it is more than fair to point out that his initial response to the coronavirus pandemic was less than ideal. He basically ignored the warning signs and made light of precautionary measures, and even bragged about shaking hands everywhere. Only after he got sick did he start to take it seriously.

Boris Johnson first and formally is an expectant Father.

Carrie Symonds, the soon to be Mother of Boris Johnson unborn child is in recovery from systems related to coronavirus, Ms Symonds must be in a heightened state of anxiety and stress .

If Boris Johnson was to succumb to this pandemic, the child will never experience the joys that a devoted Father brings to the happiness of family life. I adore my Father, even the embarrassing way he sometimes dresses, 1970 it ain't .

Suffice to say, Boris Johnson could well be struggling for his life. I sincerely hope he survives this ordeal.

Politics aside, a genuine heartfelt wish, from one human bring to another.

As Johnson himself once said on 'This Morning' on 5 March 'perhaps you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go and allow the disease, as it were, to move through the population, without taking as many draconian measures. I think we need to strike a balance.' I bet he never thought he would be on the receiving end when he said that.

Some interesting figures for “serious cases” in the UK...

Median age. 60 yrs

73% male

72% either overweight or obese

It would seem that if you are male and lead a sedentary lifestyle with a poor diet, there are consequences. I hope this will be a wake up call.

@YuriOtani - Way don't you read or listen to the News probably. It's been known for some days that should BJ become incapacitated then Dominic Raab would assume his responsibilities.

Hope all the haters from yesterday are feeling good now.

Let's hope he's back in No.10 shortly . No country should be without their leader at this point.

Setting the continuing NHS funding debate aside. The fact remains There is no specific treatment for disease caused by a novel coronavirus that represents a cure., Only a course of action is dependent on the patients condition. Irrespective whether the patients happens to be the PM Boris Johnson, or Boris the Spider.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I can't believe that there are some persons who put minus button on the comments hoping his recovery.

They have cold hearts.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Best wishes for a speedy recovery so we can see that beautiful hair flapping the breezing again soon.

@Rizdown

Is your description of the former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn as “that idiot Red Corbo” different to “unfunny petty little remarks like using the term ‘PM Bozo”?

I’m just interested in how we can raise the conversation from the petty.

Ironically, Johnson will get the best medical care from the NHS doctors and nurses who for years have been on the receiving end of the Tories' loathsome austerity cuts. Lacking information on the state of his health there is no point speculating about his recovery. Nobody is wishing him ill, but if he cannot perform his duties as PM, it will make no difference to the outcome of the UK's pandemic crisis: like in the USA, nobody is in charge of this one.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

If there's any silver lining to all this it's hopefully that people in the UK and particularly the conservatives have a new found appreciation of just how important the NHS is. Britain's most important post-war institution.

Yes. Particularly with the Tory party in power post-Brexit I became worried about the future of the NHS.

This is a powerful reminder of how important it is.

ICU after a day means he's not breathing on his own.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Incorrect Robert - BJ is in St Thomas' Hospital, one of Londons largest NHS hospitals. Yes, of course he will be denied visitors, standard practice with Covid 19.

Again, Get Well Soon.

It sounds like Boris is in a rather serious condition.

Hope he pulls through.

I am not a fan of Boris the PM yet he is a husband and father to his children. Can we find it in our hearts to wish well upon those we disagree?

0 ( +10 / -10 )

Wishing Boris and everyone else wth this virus a speedy recovery.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

I agree, which is why it is important for Western governments to defuse vigilantism by taking a tough line with the CCP

What? How does that work?

Indeed zichi, the lockdown has presented my UK families farming and land holding with an ironic dilemma.

Eastern Europeans have been a staple source of semi-skilled pickers from Romania and Bulgaria. However, a proportion have been replaced with UK students who have in fact risen to the occasion, the work is tough and conditions are harsh. Even so transportation has become an issue as truckers quite rightly, who display any sign of infection are placed into self-isolation.

Costs have risen exponentially as demand has shrunk for fresh produce. Frozen is now king. They are just about keeping their heads above water. But time is running out, I have financed a loan guarantee arrangement, and a credit risk facility. However, in reality the business is 8/10 weeks away from becoming untenable.

Without a clear chain of command within Government, and a transparent economic policy agenda, the prospects  for the UK economy appear bleak.

It is worth understand how the PHI model fits into NHS funding.

In all honesty how this is relevant in connection to Boris Johnson survival or in fact the outcome of the many thousands in the same predicament is another matter altogether.

How health care is funded...

@itsonly rocknroll: So well said. Thank you for bringing this thread down to earth. Those who have thumbed you down should be ashamed of themselves.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

theResident, clearly Boris Johnson provokes power emotional hostility, some of which is dark political anomosity.

If contributor has taken the time to log in, read, and mark either nay or say, in my humble opinion, thats a positive.

I have to admint that some of my opinions have caused irritation within my own family. Although I have mellowed and try to tone it down with varying degrees of success.

Keep well everybody

There's no justifying or excusing Far East Asian looking people then, if or now or ever. Just because it developed in China is no excuse.

The coronavirus is everybody's problem.

starpunk - There's no justifying or excusing Far East Asian looking people then, if or now or ever. Just because it developed in China is no excuse.

It certainly is now.

*properly Yuri! Properly.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

I hope and pray for a speedy recovery. So sad, once again I hope the world sees how serious, fast and devastating this virus is. Japan should seriously take the severity of this as a warning.

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

Some of the left-wingers on here make me laugh.

They don't even have the grace to put politics aside for a minute and offer a fellow human good wishes for a speedy recovery when he/she is down.

Of course they always like to make a big show of their 'tolerance', 'humanity' etc.

I suppose that their unfunny petty little remarks like using the term 'PM Bozo' are more important for them.

-2 ( +12 / -14 )

I suppose that their unfunny petty little remarks like using the term 'PM Bozo' are more important for them.

Spare us the sanctimony. It’s not just the ‘left-wingers’. There is lots of name-calling from both sides. It comes with the territory in politics. Probably the best example of it in my lifetime came from the Tory leader Cameron - a man who admitted he needed to tone it down. He looked more like a public school bully in the commons than a leader.

Anyway, while I despise the Tory party and what it stands for, I have posted before that I hope Johnson recovers. I wouldn’t wish this on him.

This is a time when we need to wipe our backsides with the disgusting Thatcher idea that there is no such thing as society ( wash your hands carefully after doing it ). This is a time when society needs to work together to make sure as few as possible end up in Johnson’s situation.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

Get well soon, PM Johnson. This is a truly awful disease, the more agonizing reports I read of people who have recovered , the more scared I get. And we barely know anything about Covid-19 yet.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

@ zichi

The UK does not have polaris missiles, it has trident (they stopped using polaris in 1998). And the British Prime Minister can only use them if the USA agrees, it is not an independent deterrent.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Regardless... He is part of the establishment.... he is playing a role to excite people to conform to whatever that can control actions of people... He will be fine and without any actual illness... probably within a month or even less...

Just a gut feeling about all this hype when there are NO real and substantiated data or even a way to test and say it was the flu or the COCID-19 with the same or similar standard...specifically for that virus...

And how come the tests were created so suddenly in so many countries... when the US took weeks and then some..? Japan could only treat people based upon their symptoms, till tests were made available weeks later.. They did not even klnow that it was corona till gthey got information from China and the US.

To top it all.. all we get are government figures... who in the government are actually reporting them..?. where is the data coming from...? (I know that in Japan, the figures have been very accurate. It is just the way the health system so systematized and organized.)

The figures and charts are too idealistic when the virus is supposedly totally different from other corona related viruses... and they use supposedly accurate data from countries with totally different social cultural habits...

Not to say it is or can be dangerous... then why only the elderly and ill..? other corona virus pandemics did not have such specificity....

Just cannot understand all the hype... that is all...

This is a time when society needs to work together to make sure as few as possible end up in Johnson’s situation.

I'm sure this is a sentiment everyone can agree on.

However, how does society work together when the British Prime Minister's senior adviser (Dominic Cummings) is a self-confessed eugenicist who reportedly made remarks at a private event characterized as “herd immunity, protect the economy and if that means some pensioners die, too bad,” by a senior Tory who reported them to the Sunday Times?

Cummings kept his job, unlike a recently-hired junior adviser of similar hue:

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/breaking-number-10-aide-andrew-21517109

Can you imagine the furore if the likes of Aso or whoever is advising Trump this week had made such comments? Yet somehow Cummings got away with it....

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Symptoms, not systems, heck I have systems on the brain at the moment.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Oh! Such a brave, sensible statement Robert.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

I am wondering why his doctors did not administer to him right away when diagnosed Avigan??? Could he make a call to Abe-san and ask to send some? Avigan, if used in early stages will stop the spread of Coronavirus. China used Avigan and took on average 4 (four) days to get rid of the virus. Other drugs require 11 (eleven) days. Why Boris was not informed about Avigan?... Very wierd...

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Get well soon, Boris! Ignore all the lefties sagging you off online and wishing you harm. You are doing a great job.

-7 ( +12 / -19 )

For the sake of the UK, a temporary replacement needs to be named.

-8 ( +8 / -16 )

theResident, who says I hate Boris? Yet a country can not be led from a person on a ventilator. Tough decisions need to be made now and not when Boris is well and fit. I pray he recovers and resumes his role as PM.
